so let's say i have an x10i and i want to unlock it... what do i do?
I think its the same thing as debranding the phone. Its a sticky at the top.

Unlock and debranding are 2 different things.
Debranding is on the stickies - involves installing the custom or SE ROMs. So let's say you have a Rogers or AT&T phone, instead of using their firmware, you install the Global Generic firmware instead or one of the custom ROMs. After install, your phone is now debranded and is no longer a Rogers or AT&T phone (from the firmware).
Unlocking the phone is carrier related. That is where your phone can only use SIM cards from a specific carrier. You will need to get an unlock code from the carrier or some 3rd party.
Debranding a locked phone won't unlock the phone. Unless the devs have done something new...
So is there anyway to unlock the x10a? with out paying or calling at&t?

Unfortunately not, at the very least you'll have to call AT&T (or email them). If I remember correctly, by law, the US carriers are not allowed to deny you your request to unlock your phone provided you have met certain criteria, e.g. your bill is paid up to date, you had the phone for like 3 months or something, etc. But they can limit the number of unlock codes they provide within a certain period to prevent mass resellers of their retail phones, i.e. they don't want you buying 30 phones from them to sell it on e-bay unlocked. But as long as you meet those criteria, the unlock code is free.
So if you met the criteria, they should do it for you without too much hassle. They might give you some spiel of how they are not liable for any damage or whatever you do if you unlock your phone and put another carrier's SIM card in there but hey, in the end you'll have an unlocked phone...
I have searched the last fiew weeks on the internet for an free unlock method. But i haven't found anything working. Then i asked in a phone shop if they would do it. They told me that they had found something here on this website. So i searched here on xda. But i've foun nothng working on X10 with stock ROM 2.3.3 or other ROMs... So if anyone could help me and solve my probleme. If there is no other way I will unlock it in a phone shop for about 35€... I think it's too much, but i'm not sure if this internet - shops are serious....
I know my english is bad but i hope you were able to read my Questions.
thanks, Meikl96
What are you looking for ? is it phone unlocking or SIM unlocking?
If its just phone unlocking and installing custom ROMS then you need a flash utility and the rom itself and both you can down load.
If you are looking for sim unlcok then i'm not sure how to go about
well for SIM unlock, the only way is to let phone shops unlock it for the price.. AFAIK there's no way to unlock sim for free. you need to have a account with "credits" (that's what they call it) that phone shops only have. I got my sim unlocked for not less than 15 minutes.. ^^
yeah, i've asked in one of these shops but they want me to pay pay 30€ for this and it would take a week... I just thaught that there would any free way, because i've done it with another Phone (LG GD 880) wich was locked on T-Mobile Germany. It was easy to find this code generators but SE takes random keys....So its nearly impossible to get an code for free. but there was an thread a few months ago where sb sayed that he would do it for free...I don't know his name anymore....
I have asked in some shops in Vienna, Austria but no one can unlock it with setool.
They say the servers are not online
My question, I have unlockes the sim on a homepage but I would like to unlock the boot loader now.
I do not care much about the sim unlock since I have another unlocked phone. How can I unlock the boot loader?

Try http://omnius-server.com/ . It's free for sony ericsson devices up to Arc (X10 included).
I do not know of any free method, but looking on eBay I recently found a seller that unlock my phone (Orange UK) for about 20GBP.
Unfortunately, the item that I bought it's no longer available and the seller no longer offers this service for Xperia x10.
Depends on the carrier, you may also find a lower price.

Hi,
I have Sony Xperia S from O2. I need to SIM Unlock Code because I'm using another Network. Can any one help me to solve this issue?
Thanks.
if youre with o2 pay monthly you can fill in the sim unlock form on their site
https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset Unlocking Form
I tried this before but this phone was a gift. I don't have SIM number to fill the form.
However, I'm using another network which not allowing me to make use of the phone.
It seems that your phone is a branded version that is attached to a carrier. You can try one of those websites that will SIM unlock your phone, but I'm not sure if the XPERIA S can be, yet...

It seems like this. because I tried many ways to unlock the phone. I notesed while trying to unlock the bootloader from services configuration "Bootloader unlock allowed: NO" and i couldn't connect it in fastboot mode. it didn't locate the driver even with manual installation.
do you have any suggestion? and what are those sites if you know cheep website?
cellunlock does the job for you
bro just head over to cellunlock site and place ur order they gave me the unlock code within 24 hours it works just fine to unlock the bootloader after that.

check out this site
http://www.cellunlocker.net/unlock-sony-ericsson-xperia-s.php
it is currently $39,99 on this web-site. I wonder if one can find anything cheaper - I have seen one on the eBay for £32,99 which I find too expansive too. do you guys think unlock codes will get any cheaper with time? thanks
:S :S
I tried them.
Returned the money because they can not do it.
I travel abroad for a long time and should I use another service provider.
I called my provider to do it for $ 500 for decoupling.
If I know I do not take this crap phone.
There is no solution to it?

I unlocked my Mrs's phone via cellunlocker webpage mentioned earlier. Had to wait a week, but can use any sim now. Though, the bootloader status hasn't changed (still says "no").
Then I bought an unlocked phone from eBay, thinking the bootloader will be unlockable, but it says "no" in the menu as well. :-(
I am wondering if you get it cheaper on the web - certainly those who made their way into unlocking world of SXS recently will make tonnes of money. Would appreciate if you could share if you have seen it cheaper than $40 please.

So, There is no free software to unlock the Phone?!?
cellunlocker.net and xperia S sim codes
Dear Valued Customer,
We just wanted to keep you updated on the status of your order. Despite our efforts, the manufacturer has informed us the Sony Ericsson Manufacturer method is delayed until further notice. We will be suspending this service until there is a more definite time line of when the service will be back up and running.
No one at this point has access to these codes at the moment.
We are very sorry about this situation once again, as we are sure you are eagerly awaiting your phone to be unlocked.
Your order will be returned as "Not found" and a full refund will be issued to you.
When the service is back up, tested and running 100%, you will be contacted.
Thanks once again, and we are sincerely sorry for this situation.
If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to call us at 1-800-507-9077 or email us at [email protected] anytime.
Ps they did refund my 39.99
hi guys,
i bought xperia U last week in UK from an Orange shop. The company requires that in order to unlock the phone, you need to use it for 3 months at least. But i want to unlock it now, as soon as possible. I'm writing here knowing that xperia S has the same software etc with U.
Can you tell me a simple way of unlocking the phone? Given that i have never done such thing in the past and i have no idea of anything like this.
Thanks in advance
Just follow this thread to unlock your bootloader..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527159
What can i do if in Service Status, it says that unlocking is not allowed?
Is there any way to still unlock xperia U? Because i do not like it to wait for a newly purchased phone 3 whole months until i can unlock it, according to Orange's policies... ((
I don't think there's a way, then.
You'll have to wait

First of all, your question belongs in the Q&A thread. Make sure about it the next time. Regarding your query, after 3 months, Orange will send you the unlocking code but I am not sure if you call still unlock your bootloader then. You may only be able to unlock the SIM. This is one of the major flaws of the carrier branded phones and you can either sell it and get a new carrier free one or live with this knowing you won't be able to unlock it at least for the near future.
Well they are on the list of omnius so you can expect bootloader unlock for about 2-3 months

I have done this, you need to ring o2 and ask for the the unlock code, they should give you it for free.
Then when you put a different network sim in your phone, it'll ask you for the code to unlock the phone.
Remember the thanks button.
Cheers,
Lunar.

Hi
They could NOT unlock my XPERIA P. Here I post the answer from mrunlock
"Unlock Code Unavailable
Your order will be refunded in full under our satisfaction guarantee.
This could be because the phone manufacturer has not yet added it to their database, it is an unsupported model, or you accidentally entered the IMEI for a different phone.
If you would still like to unlock your handset then please try your local independent phone shop / market trader as they may be able to do this with hardware.
It is also worth testing your phone with different SIM cards to double check it is still locked as sometimes you may find it works when you do not expect it to."
Also they have not refund me yet
i have since got my phone unlocked, it wasnt easy to find somewhere to do it, this is a hard device to unlock it seems, your best bet is getting in touch with the company your phones locked to, I got mine unlocked by o2 themselves free of charge, but thats because my ebay seller was very helpful and filled out a short form for me after i requested.

What kind of information does O2 need to unlock the phone?
I got in touch with my ebay seller (the original owner) and she filled out a form for me, im not too sure what details she had to put forward but i dont think its anything you could obtain unless you were the original owner, i was told however of another way around this but its not free. You have to get an o2 payg sim, top it up with like 20 pounds, make a few phone calls from the phone so it registers with your imei number, then with at least 15 pounds left submit an unlock form for payg sim to o2
