[App] Wakelock Detector - AT&T LG Optimus G

Many of us on the LGOG are wondering what is going on with the seemingly high/fast battery drain and finding the cause may have been a bit tricky.
Here is an app that is quite helpful in finding the source of the drain and it is an app that is getting constant updates through users reporting their stats.
I like it and hope you will find it helpful.

HD Widgets Wackelocks. Alternatives?

HDWidgets is procuding in my opinion an obscene amount of partial wakelocks according to BetterBatteryStats.
I have litterally turned everything off in HDWigets, yet it is still producing a lot of wakelocks.
Anyone having an issue similar to this? and if so found a solution?
Anyone have a suggestion on a different widget that doesnt produce wakelocks, to the same degree?

I have a similar issue, BBS reports that HD widgets causes the most wakelocks and it's often present in the Android Battery stats too, all this even after I turned my update interval to 24hrs, as far as I know, no other go than to remove the widget. As for alternatives I don't know any good replacements myself, sorry
Which version are you running?
I found that updating has helped but not solved the problem

3.0.4. I've noticed the wakelocks are a lot more frequent when wifi is on. How much of an improvement does the current version give you?

[Q] XXLSJ wakelock

Hello
Im trying to find the cause behind my intense battery drain. Got recommended to use BBS but don't really understand it. Can some check the logs for me and tell me the best action to reduce battery drain.
Please post this in the BBS-thread. Although people could have a look into this right here, the support there is for BBS specificly.

Screenshots man, screenshots.
You must be having the media scanner issue anyway.

NlpCollector wakelock.

Over the past couple days I've noticed this as the top partial wakelock on my device. This seems to be at least partially coincident with info propagating across the internet about Google games. There is an apparent associated wake alarm, which ends in .Gms.
While these aren't insanely bad wakelocks, they are irritating to me as I'm not sure where they are coming from. The number of wake alarms from this is pretty aggressive... Previous to this maps was my most aggressive waker by a large margin, and this new one is twice as aggressive as maps.
Is anyone else seeing these? Anyone have any insight as to the source?
Screenies attached...

Yes, same problem here but with a Nexus 4
It looks like that's caused by Messenger.
I can say for certain that it Might be caused my Messenger, as I do not have it installed ,and do not suffer that wakelock.
I do got a lot from Maps, but Greenify takes care of that.

What specifically is pointing you to messenger? You're referring to G+ messenger I assume. There haven't been any updates to G+ or messenger recently...

No, but I have seen com.google.gms implicated in recent Google Play Services updates, in reference to the upcoming game center-thing Google is launching, so That could potentially have something to do with it.
DId you get rid of this wakelock. this error is not lettign my phone to sleep.

No. It seems to have gotten slightly better with a different kernel, but still present. I'm still getting decent deep sleep and awake: screen on ratios... It isn't completely preventing deep sleep for me.

Is been around for a few days... I think it is being caused by updates to background Google services, but I'm not sure. Since I don't know what's causing it, chasing it down by freezing stuff or using greenify odd going to take time. I haven't had that time yet. So I am living with it for now.

ok, let me try different options.
I tried all the options given in Better Battery Stats app, to minimize gsf wakelocks and disabling maps. I tired these settings for the first time..

This sounds very much like the aggregated Network Location Provider that was introduced in the I/O Keynote?? Or is this something different?
It's supposed to use far less power not more... :what: It got a very good reception from the crowd tho.

Could be. I haven't had really any time to chase this yet. But for grins, I installed the app AutomateIt, which if I understand correctly takes advantage of some of those new Google features. I turned on a couple options in the app to trigger things "when in a vehicle". I subsequently saw more of this wakelock.

Sounds like it to me too. And yeah, it probably does use less power than the old default way of doing location services. Our problem is that we have tuned our phones to avoid location services as much as possible, and now we are getting them again.
I'm sure someone will figure out the best way to tame it... or we may find out it's battery-friendly enough to actually use location services now

It may be battery friendlier than the old location services - it doesn't seem particularly drain inducing to me - but it is running on top of the old location services (I haven't noticed any reduction in wakelocks from them) so it does result in some additional drain.

It aggregates it from wifi, data and gps remember.
If you are using wifi - it will be there.
Keep your smart phones smart.

Yeah, I was under the impression that it's kind of up to the apps to actually USE the new service. If they still go about things the old way then the new service doesn't help anything.
I posted the following on my own thread but I'll be moving my discussion here because it's pretty much the same thing.
I noticed recently that I have two Google related networking services running constantly. They are GoogleLocationService and NetworkLocationService. Are both necessary? I remember only one was there before the new Google Services update. I also have noticed an increase in Android OS under Battery usage and a slight decrease in battery life. I think the two maybe related. Anyone have some insight?

I think the issue is that the old service and the new service are running simultaneously and is negatively impacting battery instead of saving like what was promised with the new service. Maybe we need to find a way to remove/freeze the old service.

[Q] Solving Battery Drain with Wakelock Detector

Hi all,
I love my DNA (stock) and I haven't had any issues until the past couple of weeks, when I noticed that my phone started draining battery much more quickly than normal without me changing my usage habits. I'm consistently draining about 10% per hour even when I just pull it out of my pocket every hour or so to check notifications. I've also noticed sluggish behavior as well (lag when unlocking especially).
I got the Wakelock Detector app to see what was causing me issues, but I'm pretty new to it--I'm not sure what is normal and what is a problem. I've disabled a lot of my location services as a result, but that doesn't seem to have solved anything as of yet, which is why I'm posting.
I'm attaching a few screenshots from WLD so you can see what I've got going on. Android System looks awful, but I don't want to disable backup (I like having my app choices and such saved, and don't want to lose them). What should I really chase after to get this draining issue solved?

There's a known issue with Google services causing drain, its been mentioned in a few places around here, it started with an update a little while ago. You can try removing updates if it let's you, may help, or just have to wait out an update to correct it. I think for now disabling all of the location stuff helps.

you could also try the newly released Qualcomm Snapdragon BatteryGuru.
If you can I would change kernels. crpalmer's kernel fixed my wakelock issues. I had a maps issue related to location services and disabled maps in Titanium Backup and then later I had wakelock issues that I couldn't pin down but switching to crpalmer's kernel fixed it for me.

This app looks great! I'll certainly give it a try. I used JuiceDefender on my old Droid Charge and it helped (back in 2011), but I don't think the app is maintained any more.
I'll let you know if it helps.
I have a theory, which may be wrong, is that apps set up all sorts of events that the system tracks and acts upon. As a result, when tracking CPU usage and wake locks, it is often hard to find the culprit behind most of the activity because it registers under system processes rather than directly from the offending app.
So the solution may be to do a factory reset (which is painful) or just freeze some apps to see what difference it makes.

That itself causes wakelocks and is 90% placebo effect.
Having same issue and it is definitely Google. I use Google Maps a lot so disabling location renders it useless. Bad deal since its killing my battery.

If so, this is the best placebo effect ever. Once BatteryGuru trained for 2 days, my battery life has improved dramatically, back to where it used to be (if not better). My phone now can enter deep sleep for longer than 2 minutes over a 10 hour period.
I did see that BatteryGuru was the cause of additional wakelocks, but my real cause for concern was the lack of deep sleep.
I can now make it through a 16 hour day without getting range anxiety.

Yep, getting an extra couple of hours of battery life due to that app is definitely placebo.

It isn't mentioned in this thread and is a really important recent development. The new play store solves the excessive drains that google play services was having. I've seen mentioned in a few posts above some issues that will be solved by installing the new play store.
The problem I had with battery guru was that it required turning location services on. Since I normally don't run location services unless I need them, having to enable them for the battery savings app to run kind of negates the purpose of the app. It would be nice to hack it up and delete the business that requires location services.
For the poster above who wasn't getting deep sleep, I would try removing battery guru, solve the deep sleep problem and then reinstall battery guru, it might make your battery life even mo betta.

Excruciating Battery Drain.. What is causing it?

Hi everyone, I have a really annoying problem with my device battery being retarded and draining from 100% in 3 hours.
Literally 4hours ago I turned my phone on (still plugged into the AC).. I picked it up and started to do my dailies and my phone is just sucking power.
I have no real clue as to how to stop this ridiculous draining problem. This has persisted through 2 new batteries (Samsung official branded) and ROMs ranging from stock S2 firmware to my latest PAC-man ROM
Please see below for images and any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

You need BetterBatteryStats logs/screenshots, those ones you posted don't glean any useful information. Find the BBS thread on here, install it, let it run for a couple of hrs/a day/whatever.
Then (if I was in your situation), post your logs/screenshots to the BBS thread. You're far more likely to get useful (and somewhat prompt) help there than posting to Q&A given specificity of this issue & how relatively little traffic Q&A sees these days (chances are you'll either wait ages for useful responses, or get fed generic bull**** which won't help).
it could be a wakelock issue but only can be confirm after you install BetterBatteryStats......
i believe you can tackle wakelock issue by using greenify or Wakelock Terminator....
If you have root you can try Wakelock Detector.
With it you can see if some application keep your CPU awake.
