Hi there,
Guys I am planning to buy a new high end android smartphone here in India, but I am a bit confused with Samsung Galaxy s3($530 or Rs29000) & LG Optimus G($603 or Rs33000). There is not a big difference in price but as I saw Optimus is much faster than Galaxy S3 and also optimus sports 2GB of RAM but S3 is having only 1GB of RAM.
Samsung is known for its better hardware utilization & regular updates while I dont have any idea about LG for the same. Guys please suggest me for which phone I should go ??
Thanks & Regards
Abhishek

The LG is considerably better in hardware specs (newer, faster processor, double the ram)
The 1GB of ram certainly hurts the S3.
LG is bad at updating, but it seems they are trying to improve that. However there hasn't been a real transformation yet.
Despite this, the stock software from LG is less intrusive and more holo-like than TouchWiz, the aesthetics are better in my opinion.
Touchwiz has the upper hand in features though.
Go to GSM Arena, they have a comparison between them.

When you are asking for high end android smarphone here then I will give my answer is wait for one or two month then go for samsung s4. You will get much better hardware, longer support and updates, and more future proof.

yes I agree LG is much better in hardware specs & weaker side is software. But is it too bad to use ? Also I read some reviews stating that LG's camera quality sucks. Is it true ??

Get yourself an i9305 instead. Much better option.... 4core+2GB of RAM + LTE+Android 5.0 coming for sure= future proof for little money. Here in UK you can get a New one from eBay for £300 or less!! Simple as that

Software itself it's good IMHO.
Updates are really bad though - LG takes a long time to update non-flagships. Which in the short term won't be an issue for you.
But if you are planning to stay with the device for a long while, you might not see Android 5 for your device.
I don't know how good the development for the device will be, but it seems that S3's is far larger.
So, it depends, you could have better hardware, sacrificing future updates or development support (despite S3 having little of AOSP flavor, we have several quality stock ROMs, and that's without mentioning the top quality kernels available )
For the people that complain about Samsung and updates, see this :

Also my motherboard having insane firmware mens it can meet sudden death and sammy has not accepted their fault officially. After spending so much u will get white glossy plastic. bigger screen on SIII
sony suck..
they already mention they only support 18 months for the update
Sgs III
Go for the sgs III. The cameras are almost the same, the cpu on the sgs III is faster, more storage, many features, bigger vut not better screen.

Is you are a Sony lover then either buy Sony S or wait for next Sony handset to come out... Sony's camera is very good.. See the reviews, one of the best out there, probably better than s Samsung, Otherwise go with Samsung SIII

SGSIII is Optimus Prime and Xperia S is Bumblebee, so its ur choice, something fastest on the market or something with soul but fast enough!

Go for the SGS3. If you need some reasoning, read the article about this phone in the September issue of Maximum PC. They LOVE it, almost as much as I do.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda premium
I don't think anyone with the right mind would buy any Sony phones right now, they are under-specs handsets with heavy price tags. The only reason someone would buy the Xperia S is because of camera. But the GSIII's camera is also not bad (though I haven't seen any comparison between the 2 phones, probably because the Xperia S is not so popular).
Quick check list:
Battery life: GSIII (much longer battery life and replaceable battery)
Screen: GSIII (the SAMOLED HD is better)
Hardware: GSIII (quad core Exynos is too fast for Snapdragon S3 in Xperia S to handle). Oh, have I already mentioned how outdated the Xperia S is in terms of hardware? Snapdragon S3 is a two years old SOC!!!
Software update: guess which phone will have Jelly Bean first?
And personally, the major disappointment I have with the Xperia S is how Sony screwed up the media playback capability of Snapdragon S3. The same videos that play smoothly on my Sensation (same SoC, snapdragon s3) became pixelated on the Xperia S regardless of players I tried. It's not a common bug but it is a dealbreaker for me.

Note 2 is a good upgrade if you are not looking for faster hardware, but more specialised features like the s-pen.
If you don't need the features this second, I would advise you to stay with your SGS3 'til the Note III comes out in August/September(or just go with the SGS4/other similarly specced phone once it becomes available).
The note 2 is a good upgrade because of the 2 gig of ram thats why everything is faster..alot of people forget we have only 1 gig
Nope, wait for s4 much better since less then half year to go

Are you planning on being without a phone until the SGS4 gets here in April/May? The S4 is better if you want a smaller device, best dev support, and don't need the s-pen. This is all pure speculation though as neither of these devices have been announced.

I believe ergonomics make all the difference between two devices. If you frequent a tablet for daily use, than Note series offer a good fusion of a smartphone and a portable tablet. Otherwise, Galaxy series should be preferable. As such, S4 would be the best upgrade.

The note 2 really isn't an upgrade as it's the body of a SGS3 in larger form. With S-Pen. S4 would be an upgrade or Xperia Z

The short answer to that is it is actually a good upgrade.
But, if you're asking if it is a WISE upgrade, then no. Because we're seeing 1080p screen phones with 2gb of ram and A15 architecture cropping up everywhere, so the note 2 may be better than the s3, but there are others in the market of the same price with better specs. HTC butterfly for example.
I dont like anyone should possibly switch from s3 to note 2.. How i see it it is a 2gb of ram, larger screen,s-pen s3..
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
IMO is not a good upgrade since is almos the same sh*t but if you want a bigger screen at same resolution (less DPI) and s-pen stuff then yes itsa good option, but is not an upgrade, is just a different phone with almost same hardware.
Usually I call upgrade to get a better phone, not just a different looking phone.

S2 has 16GB and S2+ has only 8GB. I hope I was able to help you
Edit: I don't know exactly but does S2+ has 4G ?
At least S2 is cheaper
There are completely different hardware s2 have exynos4 dual and s2+ uses broadcom and s2 have 16-32 internal storage camera is almost the same . The gpu of s2 is mali 400 and on s2+ is video core iv s2+ doesn't have nfc only p variant. In performance i thing that exynos4 is better

No lol, that's a sarcastic remark.
I've never had an S2 plus and I never will.
There's nothing plus about this model, samsung released it to take the original S2 out of the market (because yes, it 2 years old, but remains as a very popular device).
S2 doesn't have much support here and it will never be as good as our beloved I9100.
Another deal-breaker, besides the internal storage, it's heavier, 4 gr heavier

The key is to freeze the bloats#!t that you don't need.
About gamming, I really don't know, never used it for that, but this is a powerfull device, so I guess it wont have any issues with that regard.
About battery, well it depends on how you use it, I got 5h 45 min of screen time once, that's a lot.
Generally, you can get a day, a day and a half. Once you get it, 10 hours tops, you're gonna be all over it all day long

Alright... so I currently have an S II Plus... I can honestly say thay it's an excellent phone... Aside from the internal storage, which is because this is a midranger not like original S2 which released as a flagship. The major model (most sold) is the NFC model, so you will be likely to get that. Also, the software is much more polished and less laggy... As the 4.1.2 for the OG S2 is but a leak. Also, trying the two cameras side by side, you will notice that the S2 Plus has a much faster shutter. Oh and to I am running all stock, and experiencing little to no lag. Oh and I got my S2 Plus for around $270, so it is likely to be cheaper than the OG S2.

I had iPhone 3G as my first phone, following by 4s then i switched to Galaxy s3 in April 2013. I've learned a lot, i've flashed many custom roms, kernel etc.
After seeing Samsung delaying updates and transporting regional lock along with kitkat update are the reason that i come to decision that i will sell my galaxy s3 for Nexus 4 (cant afford n5 yet).

How good is the battery on nexus 4 compared to galaxy s3?

This is a q&a thread, so it also belongs there. But to answer your question. Comparing stock of both devices, the s3 definitely wins. Samsung is good at creating a good battery life, even with touchwiz

S3 wins hands down. Tho I would recommend getting sony because don't delay the update
I disagree.
Bells and whistles like smart stay that doesn't even work properly after the jellybean update or a maybe slightly better camera (though I don't find much difference) doesn't outweight not having proper multitask. Also, neither touchwiz nor aosp have the nexus smoothness. Even my dad's former galaxy nexus feels slightly better than my s3.
If you can live with not having an sdcard or a removable battery, I'd say the n4 provides a better user experience (did try it for about a month). The only reason I'm not getting the n4 is because I'm waiting out the n5.

This thread would be best off in the Nexus 4 section, most users who browse the S3 forums still have and use the S3.

This is a joke, right? S3 is in overall better then the nexus 4. S3 will get 4.4. Regional lock can be removed. Also SD-Card and removable battery is essential for a phone in my opinion. (Plus, the N4 is an Lg device ) So if you don't plan to go from S3 to N5, stick to the S3!

Duuuuude....4.4 has not even rolled out to Nexus devices. Hell, it hasn't even been announced. No way can it roll out for Sony devices any time soon.
Sorry i worded that incorrectly but i hope you see my point; Im disappointed with samsung updates. I should have went for n3 in the first place, i'd have saved £40 anyways.
How the hell are you disappointed with Samsung updates?!?! They are right behind Google when it comes to updates. LG and HTC suck at updates.

I'll have to disagree with the HTC part. My HTC one just got 4.3. I own a note 2 and an s3 and both are still stuck on 4.1. HTC seems to be improving their update speed.

Except if your aiming to the n4 for its price. I seriously doubt the n5 will have the same price the n4 has. The n4 is, at this time, the best bang for the buck around. And I suspect it will continue to be for a good while.

I wanted to buy a used s3 and wondering if its worth...
And would like to know whether or not it'll receive future versions of CM/android.
Honestly its still a great phone as long as you're running a custom/kernel. Buy it if its a good deal. Future cm updates seem imminent as the Nexus S still gets official CM I think

Why don't you want to buy Motorola moto G? It's newer, faster and better
I have bought mine in 2014 and i am really happy.
don't .. Buy a Moto X or Moto G .. way to better
I bought mine from a friend one month ago. In this money(200$), don't regret a second. I sold my Optimus 4X HD one week before ( after owning it a month) and it is a huge update. Please, don't even think about it ( One X also, I guess, as they both have Tegra3). It lagged a lot even at 1500-1600 mHz. S3 still flies at 800-900mHz undervolted -100mV. Yes. I still think it is a good investition. If you find something newer ar the same, or even better price, then go for it !

Galaxy S3 still retains it's good old performance so in my opinion it's a great phone nowadays it gets your work done.
And the combination of Cyanogenmod 11 with Boeffla kernel with some tweaks is going to make the device a great daily driver!
Look for another device if you are not in for rooting and custom kernel/rom. The stock rom 4.3 is terrible and make you smash your phone. Better option is Moto x!

Decided to pull the trigger on moto g...newer device and already has cm11 official. Ty for all the inputs.

Yes definitely. It is still a powerful phone, and with the stuff here on xda, you can get most of the features available on newer models.
not a good choice

Nice device but SGS3 has much much better camera. You also don't get 1080P video recording on the Moto G, or microSD for more storage (only 11GB on the G).
S3 still rocks but lacks threeimportant things in my opinion
1- Build quality & material ( weaker than Note series for example )
2- RAM is consider not much these days
3- Camera is sort of outdated but not important if you are not a camera user anyway
