[Q] My device won't start up - Samsung Galaxy Note GT N7000 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have got a Samsung Galaxy Note GT N7000. My friend has actually made an update (claims to), and now my phone won't boot! I get the first Screen as
"Samsung Galaxy Note GT N7000" after which the Samsung logo splash should follow, but simply doesn't. All I get is a black screen. With the Volume Down + Power + home I get the "Downloading Do Not Turn Target off" and it just stays that way, I don't really think it is actually downloading anything. With Volume Up + Power + Home I get "Manual Mode" of some recovery mode. Wherein I have
Reboot
Update from External SD
Update from Cache
Wipe External SD
Wipe Cache
Reboot just simply does the same, I get a black screen after Samsung Galaxy screen. What could be wrong with my phone? I have no idea, help please.
Edit:
I have Odin downloaded, and in the Download Mode, I get that COM:ID port added, but I have no clue where to proceed from there on.

Even i faced the same issue on factory firmware. And was able to get my phone started after wiping the cache and data in recovery mode.

i have the same issue with you. It's solved by flash new rom.

Thnks. Getting a little bit nervious (ive been having a little too much fun putting different roms...and $%$#% was ment to happen...). So that did the trick.
ODIN <--- Stock Firmware <--- Stuck on Logo <-- Recovery <--- Factory Reset and Cache...
Presto...working again!

[Q] I-9300 bootloop and no recovery

Hello,
I have a S3 which is stuck in a bootloop at the samsung logo.
when i turn it on it shows the logo for some seconds then the screen goes black and the logo re-appears.
i can not boot into recovery mode, but download mode is working without a problem every time.
i tried flashing stock firmwares with odin and also tried kies emergency firmware recovery. the flashing always went without any problem, but it had effect. whatever i try, i am never able to boot into recovery and still stuck in the bootloop.
in some tries after flashing the screen just shows the samsung logo forever, but after rebooting it once it then is stuck in a bootloop again (shows the logo - screen goes black - shows the logo...)
i also tried flashing TWRP and CWM via odin, but again i can never boot into recovery mode.
what should i try next?
thx alot for any helpful comment

You can Try this:
1.) Pull out battery
2.) Put it in again
3.) Press Vol up + home + power
4.) When the Samsung Logo appears let it off
I think you press the Buttons too long.
I had the same problem!

i really tried everything, it's not working. btw with i am stuck at the very first image, where it says "samsung Galaxy sII GT-I9300".
i dont think it's just the way i press the buttons because i can reach it on my s1 and s2 without a problem, it's just not working on this device.
could some setting like "nand erase all" in odin help? in other threads there is sometimes mentioned that the internal file system might be screwed up and in those cases a simple odin reflash does not help anymore...
Nand erase will usually hard brick it. Try the rescue firmware from general forum, sticky thread. Follow the guide exactly as it includes a pit file.

thx, but i already did that (multiple times) and flashing via odin always succeeds. then the phone reboots and is stuck at the first samsung galaxy s.. screen. twice i managed somehow to get into recovery (after flashing cwm6) but it then randomly rebooted.
and i dont think that the power button is stuck because when i am in download mode it is perfectly fine it never reboots itself unexpectedly.
Had a similar issue on my tab2 p3100. It all happened when I tried flashing a custom recovery from rom manager.
A bad flash of anything related to recovery or bootloader could be a probable cause.
I remember a knowledge share on one of the threads describing this issue and as mentioned on it all I had to do is this:
1) switch off the device and plug in the charger. This would light up the display showing you the charging status. The status has to show if at least your bootloader part of the phone is fine.
2) plug out the charger and immediately press the three buttons (home + vol up + power) get into recovery mode. This step has to work and help you get to recovery mode.
***Note : the interval within which this step has to be performed is too short since the display would turn off immediately as soon as you plug out the charger. A bit tricky too so you have to be fast. If this misses getting you into recovery, pull out the battery and put it back again. Repeat step1 and 2 again.
3) upon successfully getting into recovery, perform wipe data, cache and select reboot phone from option available on recovery again.
Allow the device to boot. This could take a while since you have performed a data wipe and may prompt for first time set up.
I was able to restore functionality on my tab after these steps and like ppl learn from their mistakes, I then learnt that recoveries and bootloaders are things that needs to be done with a pc only.
Worth a try if you have tried other alternatives and found no go. may help. Who knows..
all the best.
thats also not working. i tried to get into recovery since two days now...
i also tried the steps from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/solved-pit-bricked-dead-problem-gt-t2535367
but again, after i flash the cf-root (successfully) the phone does neither boot into recovery by itself nor can i do it by hand...
its crazy... in download mode i can see the model number (GT-I9300) and i thought as long as the model number is there and i can enter download mode there should be a way to recover the device.
but i cannot think of anything to try that i have not done yet
If the rescue firmware didn't help then it looks like the emmc chip is damaged.

is there a way to make certain of this? how can i tell if it is really a hardware damage and not just a software brick?
i just dont want to let the phone go, it looks still so shiny
is there anything else that could cause the phone not booting into recovery mode after flashing custom recoveries?

Same here, still didn't found how to fix it.. I guess our motherboard just died..
Howewer I have a solution that "almost" worked for me.
Get a stock firmware in odin and turn on Nand erase and T-flash
When it's done phone reboots and you'll see just "Downloading..." mode when you turn it on.
Then got to Kies and Select firmware recovery...
Enter s/n and model name and wait for the flash to complete.
With it , I got past boot logo and actually booted into android but the phone crashed because I guess I have a memory issue..
Well , gl. If you don't find anything else helpful , try going with this method..

Stuck "IN LOGO SCREEN"

Hello guys,
Today suddenly the phone was turn off without any warring.
The next step I did is to turn it on, the phone is boot and working fine, and then turn off without any warring.
In the third time the phone going to the logo screen and turn off and in the fourth time again going to logo screen and turn off and, and etc.
After all this phenomenons I deiced to flash to backup I got, insert to recovery mode and I do "restore" action - the phone says "missing m5 files". Then I find your guide to flash a stock rom with Odin and it to be ended successfully. Now the phone turn on into the setting page of Samsung's stock and the screen stuck (any touch on the screen doesn't do anything). I turn off the phone and try to turn it on and again the phone is going to Samsung logo screen and turn off.
It is important to note that the phone insert to "download" and "recovery" mode.
I think that the phone infected with virus.
guys need yours help! :good::good:
Best regards,
Moshe

[Q] Weird case. Samsung won't boot

Hello everyone.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-9100) that has a dorimanx kernel and cyanogenmod 10 (nightly... I don't remember the version).
My problem is that the phone won't boot up.
If I turn the phone on I get the Samsung galaxy s2 screen with the yellow warning icon and then the screen of the dorimanx kernel but after that the phone blacks out and nothing happens.
I don't get the cyanogenmod boot animation.
But the phone is on, I know this because if I press the power botton of the phone, the lights of the menu and the return bottons turn on. It's weird.
I can make the phone boot in download and recovery mode perfectly (manually, pressing the physical bottons of the phone).
I have considered going into the recovery mode and installing cyanogenmod again but I'm not sure about what could happen to the files of the phone as I have some pictures thst I don't want to lose.
I have some questions about what to do with this situation:
- If I can install the rom again from the internal sd of the phone, it would fix it?
- Do you, guys recommend md to do a full wipe and format before I install the rom? I have once installed a rom in an old phone without doing the format, only doing the wipe and the filled of the phone were still there after the installation.
- Is possible to get the files from my phone in this state? I mean if I connect the phone to my pc, could I get the pictures back?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
So you've booted with this rom before? You could try flashing the rom again, or just try wiping cache/dalvik cache(or both). You won't lose photos or data doing this. If this doesn't work you can do a full wipe and install again(if you don't want to lose photos etc, you should be able to backup from recovery to your pc)
Just in case its your first time trying to flash this rom/kernel combo, make sure they are compatible too

+1 Great advice. Seems you've been actively helping out members. Keep up the great work! (Final year of high school now so I won't have much time to contribute as I would normally do).

To add on to noppy's advice, you can still access your internal storage while in recovery mode by going into mounts and storage and selecting mount mass storage. A full wipe (factory reset, wipe all cache partitions and format system) is what I usually recommend to people if they want to install a new or different rom. And installing the same rom might and might not fix your problem. I think it's better off doing full wipe then flash.
I have gt 19100 may be affected by charger so nows shwing only samsong screen but not open and my laptop could not recognize it plz. any one have an idea about.
Follow my tutorial to get back to Philz Touch recovery. Then TWRP with IsoRec Kernel :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/help/guide-tutorial-samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100-t3538601

I've bricked my T820

Was trying a factory reset with the idea that I'd give my Tab s3 to my wife upon receiving my S4.
The s3 was rooted but had the stock ROM.
I booted into recovery (TWRP) and did a wipe to factory reset. I had used TWRP a lot and didn't take my time. Just as I was moving the slider i read something like "sure you want to do this you have no OS installed." Too late.
Now it is stuck on the splash screen. I can't even turn it off.
Thoughts?
Thanks

You can either flash stock firmware from download mode (vol down+home+power). You can force reboot with this combination even if it's stuck at samsung logo (after screen gets dark, keep pressing them to get to download mode). Then you can flash with Odin a stock samsung firmware.
The other option is to use this rom https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s3/development/rom-sm-t820-tweaked-t3659433.
Copy it to the microsd, boot to recovery (in this case you have to use the same 3 button combination, but as soon as the screen goes off, you leave the vol down and press vol up along home and power buttons.
That would take you to TWRP and then you could flash that rom.
The first option is the natural one but both should work.
Also, for the second option you need the actual bootloader to match the custom rom.
So if you're in Nougat, flash the Nougat rom. The same for Oreo.
Thanks. Worked perfectly.
