hello everyone
yesterday i had a boot loop at startup in which the samsung kept looping and restarting and phone didnt startup into the software so i tried clearing the cache and format factory setting from recovery mode but didnt work so at the end i had to use odin and use a file .tar that i had when i bought the phone which had to be android v4.0.4 that had prepared incase i needed it urgently
everything went up right with odin and the samsung galaxy s3 I9300 is working fine
howeever i went into software update and i downloaded a 380mb file from the buildin software update function in the phone after completing the download i had a message which is something like this "download has failed try downloading and installing from setting<about<softwareupdate(which i used this way) or try using samsung kies on your PC to update"
now guys i went to samsung kies, i have a good internet its not a bad one.. however the samsung kies app is taking so long i mean it was on 10% for about 50mins or 1h.. so i decided to stop it and now i came here to ask you!! is there a way i can do to update the software manually!!! through downloading like a 500mb or 800mb file and using mobile odin or rom toolbox or anything that can help me update however apps get updated and changed so i dont know which app is working or not and where to be headed so please give me advice on how i can update it!!
2nd question , incase it can't be updated unless using this 2 ways the buildin software update or samsung kies!! is there a way to disable the software update notification that keeps poping up and automatically downloading the new android version!!!!
the reason i want to do so is that i already flashed the v4.0.4 android which i already has on my pc and i wanted to use my phone urgently so i didnt have the time to download a newer version and flash it therefore i am currently using the phone and have already apps and info that dont want to be deleted when flashing it again so i want to update it only!
thanks
download the firmware from sammobile website and flash using odin
2nd question, just ignore it
so this flashing through odin!! will it only update it to the newer version that am installing or will it delete all the apps and contents i have currently after installing the older version??

Hi guys
I have the following problem
I have a Samsung Galaxy SII
I rooted my phone and now i heard that android 4.0 will come soon
so i wanted to restore my phone and get original firmware again
at this time i had litening rom 6.1 on my phone
then i restored a backup with clockworkmod recovery to a state before installing this firmware
then i unrooted my phone with SuperOneClick 1.9.1 and flashed the original KF4 kernel
These steps went very well and now here is my problem:
I'm not able to get firmware updates via kies any more
Kies doesn't search for updates, because it says, that my phone doesn't support updates via kies
Hope somebody can help me
Sorry ,I also have the problem
Find the stock firmware for your carrier in here or stock firmware for your country in here & flash that.
A clean flash of stock (as opposed to using a backup as you did) should enable you to use Kies to get official firmware updates.

Thank you for the info.. I will try out later
The other thing is, Did you screw around with and change your CSC? I believe it may have an impact on Kies updates as you are trying to update a phone with the wrong firmware and country code...
Could be wrong, had a couple to drink tonight and everythings a little fuzzy...
Hey all my gf has the samsung galaxy s2 and she went to about phone > update settings etc, downloaded all of it for the new ICS that come out how when she enters her passcode its says app wizard isnt responding.. :S Any help
Maybe you flash a stock ics rom with odin.. make sure you select the .tar file in the right way...
Sent from my hybrid SII with the power of ParanoidAndroid and Fluxi kernel
It was a stock rom?... :S I just didnt seem to boot correctly, she has the Galaxy S2 GT-19100 Nothing was installed that could possiblely cause something like that aka ROOTED, Flash Rom, ETC. it was just stock
if you don't want to bother with manually upgrading using odin but rather have the comfort like the ota update, you could also just connect the phone to the pc and let kies do the updating for you.
or if you know your way around the phone, clear the cache of the system updater app and try again, or use odin and flash it manually, but that won't spare you from installing kies as well, if you don't want to bother with rooting and stuff, you might as well use kies in the first place.
It wasnt rooted, she updated it using the OVER THE AIR updates, got one and updated it..then got one saying ICS and updated it. the update for the ics just turns on gets to the lockscreen, enter the code then that second it flashes and says "Setup wizard has failed" Then nothing just a black screen no icons nothing, it wasnt rooted it was all a offical update. Now, wouldnt Restoring it with odin void the warrenty and wouldnt it mess it up?.

No... Odin flashes with official firmwares do NOT increase counter or void warranty. Counter keeps track of how many kernels (NOT firmwares) that are NOT signed by Samsung are flashed via Odin. Official firmwares from Samsung contain kernels signed by Samsung, so they do NOT increase the counter.
Im looking at Sammobile are there firmware offical?
I think its a GT-I9100 Australia On 3 or unlocked i cant remeber
Still plugs into kies but restore failed at the end..-.-"

The site isn't officially Samsung affiliated, but the firmwares are downloaded from Samsung, then posted there. They're about as official as you can get without downloading it directly from Samsung yourself.
I am on DXLE6 and rooted with CF-Root. I can't seems to upgrade to DXLF6. OTA didn't find any updates (While normal unrooted can). I tried then using KIES but after downloading firmware (phone shows download screen), it ended with error of phone not recognized.
There is no issue with the driver or connectivity as it can detect the S3, prompt software update in KIES, download the new firmware and switch phone to download mode but it stops there.
Does it mean rooted S3 can't upgrade after rooted?
I have no solution for your problem, but all i can say is that yes, you can upgrade using kies when rooted (did that a couple days ago, too lazy to set stuff up again).
Question: do you use the original cable that came with the phone? Can imagine that this may cause the issue!
I can also confirm that when rooted software update couldnt find OTA update
I would suggest you to simply download and flash the ROM you would get from kies using ODIN. Guides and download links etc can be found using search function on XDA.

You can flash a newer version of stock firmware with CWM manager or with Mobile Odin Pro and still keep root. You don`t need Kies to upgrade.

Yes, but as i said... Was too lazy to set everything up again (homescreens etc) plus the links sammobile.com provides i can only access using VPN, which means lousy slow downloads

You don`t have to do a full wipe when upgrading, just wipe cache/dalvik cache.
With the download i can`t help you, download it from another pc from a friend/family and copy it to a sd card !
Unzip the downloaded .rar file once to a .tar file.
Perhaps this is known issue, something is corrupted about the USB. It just suddenly stops working 'USB Not recognised'. Tried rebooting both didn't work.
Fortunately, I did TiB full backup before. I reset the phone to factory setting and it is recognised again by KIES. I have since upgraded to LF6.
Anyone knows why the issue with USB corrupted somehow (must be software setting not hardware as reset did it).
Hi. I use Galaxy S3 smartphone, is rooted and has CWM recovery installed. But now as I attempt to update the device, It downloads the update and reboots the phone for further process. And ends up in recovery which says installation aborted. Is there anyway I can do OTA update without any errors?
I had the same and had to apply the update through kies, which worked fine.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I think I have to do it through kies too. btw that's the sad part of CWM recovery. A bug discovered.
As per ten thousand replies on this subject CWM latest version allows OTA .
No bug its user failure .

Youtube
Here is a Youtube video which helped me, I followed the steps via KIES

Try downloading the latest CWM Recovery and re-rooting your phone. The latest CWM allows for OTA update. I had the same issue and that worked for me.
If you need some automation - along with 200Mb of unnecessary junk installed on your computer, then just use KIES.
Now, if you don't mind spend 3-4 minutes downloading the ROM you want (in that case you can use ANY official ROM you want), download the ROM using CheckFUS downloader and flash it using MobileODIN.
The great advantage of MobileODIN over KIES is that you don't lose root, plus you don't need a PC to flash (just to download).
I have updated my CWM to the latest version (6.0.1.0) and tried to update. "Device will be rebooted". And I got the same error "Installation aborted". Why does this enter into recovery mode while updating? :/
In that way, I may loose my data...
have already tried using the latest CWM touch recovery 6.0.1.0 and It failed. any more suggestions?

Odin, et al could also be considered junk, and it hasn't ever taken me 3 or 4 minutes to set up.
I'd like to be able to blame Samsung for my hosed update, too. There's a certain terrifying beuty in masses conforming to get support. I'm buying into this one.
Wipe phone flash stock rom via Odin or return it to a service centre .

ok ive gotten my galaxy s3 and rooted it and stuck wit the same stock rom as im not to fond of the others out yet or not stable for me, anyhow after rooting and testing out one of the roms, im on the stock rom and it gave me the op to update as the rest of you. i went and got teamwork recovery and it still gives me a hassle. you cant delete the cashe or it will delete the update, ive tried to only del dev cashe but no works. my question is.....IS THE UPDATE WORTH IT? with all the roms out and such well isnt the ota update only for some features?
I need to know where to get the new version to root gs3 I747 AT&T
Wow... you sure have dug up this thread from the deepest depths of xda lol.
You're in the wrong thread/forum mate. This is for the GT-I9300 S3 not the I747 variant.
So got home from work and finally started to update my GS3 to JB using Kies.
It has gotten to 100% in Kies (saying downloading file for firmware upgrade of ....) the phone says downloading on the screen, and its just stuck there.
Eventually it will bounce back an error saying the pc has lost connection with the phone.
Beyond useless.
Any ideas?
From memory their is something in Kies Tools for firmware recovery .
Not 100% sure as never use Kies or OTA .

Forget about KIES. It is utterly buggy and malfunctions all the time.
download Odin3 (search XDA), get the ROM you want from samsung-updates.com, extract the .md5 file from the download you got, and flash that to the phone using Odin3. It is faster and safer than using KIES.
There are several (hundreds!) of topics on XDA explaining the details on how to do this.
In short, you control all the aspects of the update, you don't loose your settings, you don't wipe your phone, but you are rooted you DON'T get to keep root. If you want to keep root, download MobileOdin from the play Store and flash the downloaded ROM using it.
