Um.. simple mobile resells t mobile service. So, Buddy is able to use a t mobile branded phone on simple with (probably) no problem. If, however, Buddy were to take this same L9 to AT&T without ACTUALLY unlocking it first, he'd find that his phone was not carrier unlocked and he couldn't use it on AT&T yet. But, saddened though Buddy may be, he could unlock the L9 if he wanted to and then use it on any US gsm carrier.
OP: the L9 is not an unlocked phone. It must be unlocked by a user after it is shipped. I have an unlocked L9 because I unlocked it myself with at mobile unlock code.

This I did not know. My sgs4g had to be unlocked first to use simple mobile. Since just popping the simple Sim in the 769 worked, I assumed it was already unlocked,

Yeah, I don't know exactly why it works like that with simple mobile, and I've only heard it second hand, but I assume it's because simple mo is essentially T-Mobile (at least network wise.) But, as far as the L9 goes, it is not a device that is shipped unlocked for other carriers (with the exception of T-Mobile resellers.)

How do you enter the subsidy/carrier unlock code?
Normally I just pop in another carrier's SIM, in this case AT&T and the phone will come up with a requester box asking for the code.
This phone doesn't do that, at least mine doesn't. It boots normally, but the signal bars are gray and has a red X. In the lock screen where it normally show the carrier name, it says "Network Locked"...
Is there another way to trigger the request for the code via app, menu, settings or dialer code?
EDIT: FOUND IT 2945#*769#

How do I unlock an Atrix 4G AT&T?

Hello, I want to know how to unlock a Motorola Atrix 4G AT&T to work in any network.
Thanks a lot and God bless you all.
Call AT&T. They give several free sim unlock codes per year. You'll need the imei number.

Okay thank you very much, I bought one from eBay and I'm talk-type with the seller thru AOL Mail so it will be no problem to him to tell AT&T to give the unlock code.
att unlock
i ordered the code from a vendor and called and got it from att myself! that code DID NOT WORK! to unlock my atrix 4g... i even followed instructions on here to unlock the bootloader (which i did successfully) and was about to go alllllllllll the way, rooting etc.. and ended up having to sell the phone. i just got the atrix 2 and finally got it unlocked (YEAHHH) and now am thinking of unlocking the bootloader on it.

Unlock Phones Petition

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/make-unlocking-cell-phones-legal/1g9KhZG7
Not sure they ever actually look at these but might as well try xD

I signed it. I'd love to see the carriers have to eat this one, although I'm nowhere near optimistic.

I signed it too. And the WH does look at these petitions, even the silly ones, (like the one to build a death star) which is why they increased the required signatures from 50k to 100k, to try to limit how many they had to respond to.

Signed it and posted to my social networks. Let's hope this works like sopa.

Awesome, I signed it. While i've never unlocked my phone to switch carriers (i wait for my contract to expire and get a new one from a different carrier if I switch) I like the idea that I am allowed to. But I was wondering, If i unlock my LG-OG, to be able to switch carriers if I ever decide to, can I still change my roms and not have to worry about unlocking the phone again? I figure I might as well unlock it to prepare in case the petition fails.

Yes once you unlock your sim it is forever unlocked and no ROM switching or OTAs will change that. You do however usually have to set the correct APNs

Okay thanks. I applied for the free unlock code so it will take a few days. After I get that done I'll be having fun changing my ROMs.

Unlocking the One

Hi guys since we don't have the Stealth black One in Canada I was wondering if I bought one across the border would it be possible to unlock it third party now that it's illegal in US to do so? I don't want to get stuck with a phone i can't use.
Thanks!

we unlock our phones here, we break the law when we do it, but I don't see this law being enforced any time soon.
You should be able to utilize any of the unlocking services we use to get the phone unlocked.

What does the spending limit have to do with unlocking the SIM? Sprint doesn't charge to unlock it.

and...
If you're out of contract...??? (yeah - the rep told me that because I was out of contract, they couldn't do it)

probably not, if going through Sprint, it'll only be unlocked for overseas SIMs, not domestic ones.

That's the process for the Note 2 and S3 that someone has changed the title of. The code they give doesn't work at all on the Note 3.

hi! I bought a Sprint Note 3 on Ebay. to make a long story short, phone is global. when dialing *#06#, it was giving me a MEID. it has a sim slot even tough it's with sprint witch is a cdma carrier. I called sprint and they give me a 6 digits code, telling me it's the unlock code. after a few research on google and messing around in the phone, I now get a IMEI number after dialing *#06#.
when dialing ##0011#, i see NETWORK: UNBLOCK. the phone work on the same frequncies as my carrier I'm trying to unlock the phone to. but I never found the key pad where to enter the unlock code to actually unlock the phone (supposed to restart the phone with the wrong sim card and a "please enter unlock code" prompt should appear, but not me). I used it to get in the data hidden menu (##3282#), and that it. my sim card does not work, and I'm out of options...
Somebody knows what to do?

so I just got my hands on a sprint LG g3 and on the box it says that it can be unlocked for GSM. is there any way to do this and bypass sprint unlock and get for me so that I can use my AT&T sim card in there?
try to edit the build.porp like g2

What happens when you put a GSM Simcard ? As I know all should be GSM unlocked like my Verizon G2.

They would not unlock it if you paid full price from sprint either .....has to be on the account for 90 days ...and Bill has to be up to date etc ... they don't have to unlock it ... they do it only because some sprint people actually travel and it's nice to be able to pop a sim in ....vzw only had unlocked phones because they have to from fcc .... Maybe people should just buy a gsm phone if they want use it on gsm
Sent from my SM-N900P using Xparent BlueTapatalk 2
They also limit the number of phones you can unlock per year. I travel a lot and have a lot of phones so it's frustrating for people like me who like to use their CDMA phone as their int'l GSM phone as well...

I think you are just missing the point. It would be much more practical if every phone was unlocked for cdma or gsm use like the Nexus 5 is. I have a Nexus 5 I bought from Sprint and it runs on Att right out of the box. This is how all phones should be. I happen to have Sprint and Att accounts and its great to be able to swap phones between them without a huge hassle.

I am not missing the point this is a 600 dollar phone and these people want to get it cheap and unlock it instead of paying more for it .... it's people trying to rip off these companies ... the full price of this phone is right at 600 but you can get it with bad esn for like 200 ... it's just people being cheap
There are threads just like this on note 3 s4 S5 g2 etc for sprint all the same
The Nexus from Google was 400 to start out off contract
