Hi, on my HTC Nexus One, I recently made a leap from GingerBread with Cyanogen Mod 7.1 to JellyBean 4.2.1 with Cyanogen Mod 10.1.
I started with an Amon-RA nandroid backup, and later on, I had to use BlackRose in order to change partition sizes.
I thought I backed up all my applications, but it turns out that I lost valuable data during the switch.
Now I'm afraid to load the prev. nandroid into the current configuration due to the modified partition sizes (I also do not know what were the prev. partition sizes).
So I was wondering if there's any way I could load the nandroid backup onto a virtual AVD machine, in order to extract my data files?
(*) If there's a better way to read data from a nandroid backup - I would love to hear about it.

Alternatively - can someone say what's the original Nexus One partition sizes, so I would do the whole round-trip to the old backup and back again?

Unless I have not been extensive enough in my searching (possible), I was not able to find a 'how to' on backing up the g-tab right out of the box. Many of the articles/how-to's/rants say to backup, backup, backup! I was unable to find out how to. I saw on the video posted by ehunyadi, Installing Clockworkmod and TnT Lite 4.20 on Viewsonic gTablet, it shows the option to restore/backup in clockwork. Am I correct in assuming that once you select this, you will have the option to select 'backup' and as long as you have an SD card in, it will back up the files into that card? Will using a flash drive/external drive in the USB port work as well?
Backing up is nothing new to me, just never used an android I don't want to get this step wrong or else I am screwed on the rest lol. Again, sorry if this is stated in one of the sticky notes.

Two resources:
1. People who install ClockWorkMod (CWM) .8 can use that to make a
backup at the recovery level.
2. Many people with G-Tablets use "Titanium Backup" which is proven
to work well and have many advantages.
I heard of other programs, but the above two have been enough for me.

P. S. -- Not a backup, but if your G-Tablet gets messed up, "NVFlash"
is the way to restore to an original image.

The combination of clockwork and titanium is the best. Clockwork makes a backup of everything. Rom, settings, data, apps, so you can flash back to a stable setup. Titanium backs up apps, app data and user data so that at any time you can recover those. Its most helpful when flashing new roms. You can wipe data/cash and install a new rom and then you only have to install titanium again and use it to restore your apps and data. Very handy when moving between roms. You can also set it up to do auto backup your apps and data so if your tab decides to randomly sh!t the bed your pretty well covered as you can mount internal storage to your PC in recover and pull your titanium backup folder off before any serious reformat.

So I got a replacement Vibrant from T-mo. I already rooted it, and now I am trying to figure out the easiest way to trasnser everything from my old phone (running Bionix, a 2.2 rom) to the new phone which is running JI6 2.1.
I already rooted and installed clockwork on the replacement. Can I just make a nandoid backup on the old phone, running bionix, and transer that nandroid backup to the new replacement phone running stock 2.1 and do a nandroid restore?
If I remember correctly, nandroid does not backup/restore the kernel...So should I just flash a 2.2 kernel on the new phone, then while still in recovery restore the nandroid backup from the old phone?
This seems like the easiest way to get the new replacement running like the old one.

Edit- also, if I restore the nandroid, it should do my photos and videos too?
Yes. Just move your backup folder with the saved file into your clockwork mod folder inside your phone then you can run restore your old settings.
Thanks for the response. Regarding the kernel from current 2.1 and doing a nandroid restore to 2.2, do I need to flash a 2.2 kernel before the nandroid restore?

Nandroid does not restore your kernel. I would dl your kernel, put it in root of your sd,. Put the nandroid on the sdcard. Reboot into recovery, wipe, restore nandroid, clear cache, fix permissions, flash kernel. Reboot, let phone sit for 10mins, reboot, use as normal.
Edit.
Nandroid will only restore system, apps and app data. Pics and personal address content will not be included. For a full transfer you will need to copy your entire old sdcard to the new one... on the old phone - make Nandroid, copy entire sdcard to new phone, add kernel to the new sdcard and follow instructions above.
I tried copying my pics over and it made a folder in gallery with like 2100 thumbnails... I only have about 200 pics... its weird, looks like it just keeps repeating the pics over and over

That is strange. Did you copy the old sdcard to your computer first, do you still have a copy there, What does the backup folder contain?
Or it might be quicker just to mount the new sdcard, nuke the thumbnails and be done with it.
I have a backup that was made automatically when I updated my phone back in November called "before-ext4-convert-XXXXXXX" and I need to restore it to my phone. I've tried like 3 different versions of Android, all rooted and have been unable to restore the backup. Does anyone know how to restore it? I've been googling around and can't find anything.
Everyone seems to be using EXT4, and going into clockwork always changes the format to EXT4. Any suggestions? I just need some data off of the backup.
Hello, while I was using my phone it rebooted and aparrently someting from my /data got corupted disabling my Rom from booting ever again.
So I created a nandroid via CWM6, installed a new rom and I'm now scratching my head on how to extract certain apps from that backup. Using CWM5 I could do this via the use of Titanium Backup, but now it's more complex than that CWM6 nandroids are unreadable from anything that exists out there. The only app which could analyze the backup correctly was the latest beta of "app extractor" but even that could not extract the apks *with* their data.
Basically my apps' data is precious and I wish to restore it at all costs, I have a nandroid of them, but the format is so unspeakably complex that it is basically useless. So the other "solution" was restore the nandroid and pull the whole /data partition in my PC via ADB, but I'm not sure what I can do with it.
So as it stands I now have two copies of my apps, one in a nandroid format another as it was pulled from the phone but I'm not sure how I can go on and restore them in a new rom. As I have found out CWM6 was quite a downgrade for/to those who backup/recover frequently, it's sad that I have found about it in such a disastrous way

Only recently did I recover my phone from a soft brick and since then; learning and living everything XDA and Android I decided to flash CyanogenMod on my phone. Loving it! Aside from the terrible Trebuchet launcher. I since downloaded all my apps and the like, flashed Philz recovery. Anyway, the following is everything I have backed up on my computer and all the files I have. Have I forgotten anything?
I am asking if you can actually read this and make sense of what I'm asking, do I have everything in case I end up screwing my phone I have everything needed? The user Darke5tShad0w was extremely helpful and he drilled it in my to backup the efs file for my S3 but I am unsure if I actually have backed that up, however there is an actual efs backup on my phone's internal memory in a folder named clockwork mod, I'm unsure though if I do in fact have a backup of the efs.

Hello again.
If you did it all through philz like was said in the other thread and it didn't fail when you did it you should be sorted.
If you want to make doubly sure another app like ktool to create another efs backup.
Remember to keep a copy on your computer or somewhere else.
And yes it would be a good idea to do a nandroid backup now you have cm up and running.
