Hi all, so I purchased the tablet last December, shut Downs haven't been an issue until about 3 weeks ago .this thing went from every shut down every 3 or 4 days to 2 to 3 shut downs a day. If seems every time I have wifi on and use Bluetooth earphone and movie player app it will cause it to freeze and shut down. From what I understand this problem is present on pretty much every single xts, why can't we have a class action on this issue. I know the Nissan 350z owners had one because rare tires wore out too fast, if they can do that, I think the issue of frequent shut downs definitely justify a class action

I remember sony playstation put into agreement that can't do class action lawsuit against sony.
I don't known if their such agreement surounding tablets also, but i'm in for class action lawsuit if their gonna be one.
They say'd they where gonna fix this issue in jelly bean, then they pulled this post.
http://webcache.googleusercontent.c...chedule/td-p/102681+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=ca
No idea why they pulled it yet maybe they can't fix issue
I started a petition against slow updates and issues not just for xperia tablet s alone but also against smartphones and their issues.
sony often promises to release update shortly after launch which is all marketing BS, then fail to update on time which pissed me off.
https://www.change.org/petitions/sony-release-updates-much-faster-and-fix-issues
I rarely ever have this issue try using a different movie app (MX player), even watching videos on YouTube stopped crashing my xts and occasionally I steam Netflix with no issue. Slow updates are a pain for the xts since it's not really dev friendly but if you really want updates on the phone just flash a new rom it isn't that hard, plenty of people in the dev community will fix things as long as they have time.

when you watch videos from browser you usualy can't.........
Also the issue exist in any app yes even mx player can trigger it because its issue with memory management.
It's not about the player app, I tried the stock one, mx, thunder, you name it, the app would freeze if I exit the app using the multi task button then go back again, the player would freeze then the xts shuts down, it seems to have something to do with Bluetooth, another way to cause shut down for me is having a streaming app running in the background then use the small app widget browser, sometimes it shuts down streaming music via Bluetooth as well, 2 to 3 shut downs a day is excessive!

bluetooth has nothing to do with it, if had bluetooth headset and their was time i did't have bluetooth headset.
nothing did change with rate of shutdowns.
Their some bugs that bluetooth manages to break wifi internet just don't work untill you disable wifi and re enable it verry anoying.
I don't know what to tell you guys I haven't had the same issue, the only time that my xts force shut downs is either over a long charge or when I'm hooking the tablet to a tv via hdmi even then it's rare. I've streamed hours and hours of video and even music without any fault even through Bluetooth.

Shutdowns are triggered from watching movies especialy doing from browser youtube apps or similar apps give issues.
the videos just overload ram never clears up so it ends up randomly shutting down either on playing another video.
Or loading another app while ram is bassicly only having like 1% room.
You can't clear up the ram thats loaded into ram either from watching video's will remain in ram.
No issues with shutdowns either on my tablet.
Only concern is screen flicker.
Those that have no shutdowns tough what region are you from ?
Xperia z had or has this issue to, but read it was regional issue aka not every region had it.
Anyway if i don't play videos then i don't have shutdowns either tablet get laggy tough after a while.

Had the tablet for about a month and so far watching movies offline with stock app is fine but did have it reboot when watching youtube. The biggest problem seems to be wifi dropping connections, almost always when it is awaken from sleep but also happens times when it is in use. The tablet is US model.
I think class action would be tough, I saw the petition and signed it and people was not enthusiastic even for something so simple. I wonder if we can focus efforts on getting them to unlock the bootloader, its only going to reduce headaches for them and get people off their backs if the devs can figure out a fix. Probably would be better for sales too.

started updates not for xperia tablet s alone or tablet s but more off global issue the slow updates.
its mostly android team from sony that holds back these devices.
The reason probably only happends online is because off the demuxer and its purpose sony has to limit memory for it to 1 video at a time, because its keeps loading up more more without clearing old data.

That might be due some apps you installed did't have before.
Check batery page in settings.
Mine fluctate depending on settings but remained pretty normal with different settings.
The wifi issues with this tablet makes you need to install advanced wifi lock to this also drains more battery.

ive never had that propblem... i dont know what moto did, but this is the most stable android phone ive ever owned, and ive owned just about every one verizon has sold.
Well I can't seeing it being a defect because it allows me to click the app, but it freezes halfway through. Maybe I'm not giving i enough time to boot up..?
I've had this issue as well. Freezing mostly when playing Angry Birds. I'm not sure if it was to do with Wifi since I only play when working at the gift shop and I'm on wifi because no cell service in that part of the hospital
So I've had my DNA for about 3 hours. Messing with camera screen went black and phone froze had to reboot. Now messing with Netflix same thing only didn't have to reboot. Anyone else seeing any issues like this?

Can't say I've seen that. What all do you have installed?
Not much installed. Just what came on it right now plus about 3-4 more apps mostly forum apps. If it continues I am going to return it.
I should add the camera lockup was using the front facing camera with the smile detection option enabled. It acted like it was going to shoot and I moved it then it just went black and I had to reboot.
Just did Netflix again and black screen like it just doesn't want to load.

me too..
Had mine since launch and have only seen this once - yesterday while using Handcent.
Haven't been able to reproduce camera freezing however Netflix still shows just a black screen quite often. Force stopping through settings fixes it. Tempted to think its an app problem not a phone problem.

Hi,
my wife got the DNA, since I'm very happy with my GNex and all the fine ROM's I was able to test drive.
Now I was not planning to do anything to the DNA, since it becomes my issue at that very moment, when anything weird is happening to the wife's DNA. Some may relate...
For the past week or so she has been complaining that the phones hangs for 10-30 seconds in various applications.
- Words with Friends, in app, just dragging a letter onto the board
- Messages, just opening a particular thread
- Settings, opening different menus within settings, like apps or even About
- Home Screen, swiping to the left or right... you have to wait until it moves, sometimes you see it kind of inching to the left or right...
- other places throughout the phone
Now the phone is operating mainly in Wifi mode when she is around the house, due to the preservation of data in my share everything plan.
When she operates the phone from the kitchen, she is borderline reception, even so the DNA shows 1-2 bars of wifi. By the way a lot better then any other phone I have had, even my old trusty DroidX, which I thought had the best reception (wifi) of all.
This behavior is not 100% reproducible and I can't really get the exact analysis data from my wife, when she is already frustrated... Also I don't know a lot about Sense and wonder if that might be the issue.
Just now reading a little here to see if there are already custom ROM's out there either addressing the issue or getting rid of Sense all together and making the DNA more a natural Android 4.2 phone.
Help!
Thanks

It maybe there is a rogue app causing it. But I've never had it hang, ever.

guys i request all of you to share ur expiriences with this buggy tablet........all the screen shots are below
isuues i had the past week are>>
1)flickering
2)the bottom touch bar dissapears(the one with touch buttons dissapeared)
3)camera failed(last screen shot)
4)sleep of death(no screen shot)
Most annoying one is the
ZERO BRIGHTNESS
this issue occurs frequently for me when the brighness is set to full...
sometimes when playing games or watching movies, the screen brightness turns to 0
this is not a screen timeout issue as i set it to 30 minutes:
check the second last screen shot for this
remember i had these issues in the past week

if tablet freezes sometimes the os restarts without actualy restarting the camera driver causing issues with camera, i asume it works after a reboot which further proofs my point.
just report their freezing issues shutdowns don't really matter their related to each other.

Wow..TS has many issues.
As for me, My camera is buggy and the flickering i think is a common known problem.
Sleep of death happened to my tablet before but very rare. I used the reset button to revive it.
I've never experience the missing status bar or brightness issue.

Well it defiantly was't known at sony, heck why they made thread their the xperia tablet s also have these issues all related to sony poor memory management probably that will be fixed in jelly bean for xperia tablet s.

now i understand shutdown issue on tablet s1 little better to now older android visions it would freeze like sleep of death.
guess since last update they also implented time out function in tablet s1 i guess because they consider it less anoying and normal........
well guess its time for them to stop slacking and stop doing work around fixes and fix the actual problem.
On my xts i have:
1. screen flickering mostly while reading pdfs or browsing
2. have expirienced shutdowns while browsing 4-5 times total
3. youtube playback buggy as hell
i think 1 and 3 are ics 4.0.3 bugs and should be fixed with jb(if that comes out in the near century)
I'm done with sony i think.
sony products i have problems with
3dtv with no decent pair off 3D glasses because latest one's flash you right in the eye with a blinking led thru eye glasses which is the most shameless issue they never ever fixed.
a 3D blu ray player i need and squeeks like a pig sometimes, a ps3 that can't play a game in 3D thats listed as 3Dtv supported game.
a ps3 that can't play 3D blu ray's with dts trueHD bitstream in 3D even tough its a new ps3 slim
Looks like sony is as bad as samsung, guess sony is the second brand i'll fully boycot........
my world becoming really small now i think i slice my self to death, because the world is filled with idiots like sony that only wanna make your life as bad as possible while stealing your money.

just trying to understand issue.
another test can consider doing is not playing video's at all for least 2 day's see if you still have shutdowns and freezes.
I observed on my s1 gen tablet issues:
1) screen flickering - light blue area blinks when useing high resources consuming apps ( video, search, antutu, virus scan app etc) blink takes about 0.5-1s its hardly noticed but it appears. It creates right triangle like figure with right angle at the lower right corner (system overlay bug? miniapp bug, graphic ? demuxer?)
2) sony movies app didnt rotate , problems with watching streaming videos from internet ( for about some time playing video slowing down -> app stops the message appears 'you can not play the video' .I have it after r5,r5a update
3)stock browser self shutting down ( usually when open 4-5 cards with sites includes java objects, banners , graphic etc) when opening again all these sites loading again, even if I turn off tablet. ( browser must have assigned own ram from system and remembers it - overload it may result shutting down) I suggest include rule to clean ram when app closes. Also with dev option bacground process limit max 4 processes on
4) sometimes standard (stock) keyboard self minimalises during posting on eg xda forum, sony community forum. to continue I must click on area again to show keyboard again.
5) sleep of death after r5,r5a . Reproduction for it: reading ebook with sony reader app or adobe. Tablet is chargeing (in dev option : debug , stay awake , allow mock - all turned off) display (sleep after 30min) , wifi turned on .
No other app on background except readers .Next leave tablet for about 45min.
After 30 min screen turnes off - the problem is the power button doesn't wake tablet. Need push restart button or about 10s power button to start the system again
6) loss wifi signal, disconnects in vary routers. Long time waiting to connect to network after sleep mode
7) camera app sometimes force closes - stops responding after taking a picture, the picture or movie doesnt appear on low area plate-like. Need clear camera app data to fix it. But this problem is in future again and again.
9) I dont know if its is issue but I demanding exFat support on sony tablet s, video and music unlimitted on more countries
thats all I think about. If it will be fixed I will be full satisfied
Got call from chris mcdonalds, this issue has just gotten high priority to be fixed asap, he told me to be patient because this issue is known and is taking bit longer to be fixed.
Anyway if their is news i'm first one to known will receive this news within 2-3 business day's
I experienced all the issues and much more, the status bar disappearance issue is due to the System UI trying to render but there is other stuff forcing itself in while the device is trying to stop malfunctioning but the tegra chipset is not helping at all meaning that it is too much for the graphics, I do have a screenshot of the log somewhere.
That issue occurs when while your in the application draw in ultimate lag, opening the notification shade will only hide the status from the bar and not show it in slowness causing too much so the Android System attempted to try to do something about it but the issues where so bad that the "2 force closes detected must stop application to gain stability" feature in the Android System cannot do anything about it since the "application" keeps opening since it is an important part of the Android System so the Android System opens the application but there is too much code and bugs going in the same time that there is too much conflicts causing it to force close constantly and sometimes the launcher can join in with the conflicting killing the wallpaper and flashing the application draw switch and guest mode switch, sometimes it really goes so bad that it crashes in a loop to the boot animation onto the system with the system ui force closing constantly, lagging causing the system to crash the system server (yes that is how it ends up in the boot animation) going into the same loop and to brake the loop you need to power the device down.

I purchased the G3 on release date and was excited when I got time to test it out. YouTube happened to be one of the first Apps I tried and I found that it took quite some time to actually start a video up (this is with 3-4 bars of Verizon 4G LTE) and when it finally did start it would only play for about 2 seconds and then start buffering again...this happened continuously for a couple minutes until I got frustrated with the buffering (pausing the video and trying to let it buffer didn't work either) and decided to close the App.
I have had the phone for about a week now and for some reason if I open Chrome on my phone and go to the YouTube website, videos stream without issue, but I'm still having problems with the YouTube App. Is anyone else experiencing this as well? I asked a rep at the Verizon store and was told that so far I'm the only one at that store.
YouTube
Same here, having the opposite problem of most everyone else, streams fine on Wi-Fi massive buffering on LTE.

A lot of people have had problems with recent updates to the youtube app. Many confirmed that changing their dns to a different dns server fixed the problem. However if the problem is on LTE I do not know if this is possible. Just trying help hunt down the source of the problem.
Sorry, I meant that the YouTube app itself doesn't work with LTE. but when I use my internet app and go to YouTube.com with LTE videos play just fine.

YouTube App
Yeah, its an off problem. Streaming via the app over wi-fi works fine for me, when I'm on LTE there I'm seeing an inordinate amount of buffering.
I assume its the app, I haven't tried streaming via the web but that seems like it should be an unnecessary work-around.

Its rather unfortunate as it is a great phone but some minor flaws are putting quite a damper on being able to fully enjoy it. My battery life is horrible too...apparently the amazing screen is too much for the battery, which drains while just sitting in my pocket. Hardly using my phone throughout the day I end up having to put my phone on the charger as soon as I get home. Meanwhile a friend of mine has the G2 and is able to brag about his battery life.

After a bit of adjusting I managed to get home after a 8 hour shift and light phone use with 51% battery left.
Things that have worked bes for me on two different phones:
Turn off WiFi if you are walking around a lot.
Turn off location reporting by network discovery! Leave it at GPS if you need location info. I have been testing this for over 6 months on a galaxy note 3 and I find very little battery use this way.
Disable all the Amazon crapware. You can keep on the Kindle app if you need to view off files.
Obviously watch screen brightness. I have mine on manual.
Turn off the shortcut keys on the volume if you keep it in your pocket. Several times mine turned on by accidently and I got a buch of great burst shots of my pocket!
Hope these help..
install an older version of YouTube ~5.5-5.7
I know on this phone and others as soon as YouTube updated to 5.7+ it started to buffer all the time... likely an issue because it detects verizon... however, switching back to an older version allows me to fully play videos on 4G LTE with no issue. So I'm running 5.5 and it's running flawlessly... and while there could be newer features, it is just fine for me.
Edit: this method worked on my galaxy nexus which just retired ... changing versions I the g3 hasn't made a ****s-worth of a difference. Still buffering every 4-5 seconds.
Hi, has anyone had any popping, crackling, or skipping when listening to music? I get it about twice to 3 times per hour when listening to spotify or local music. There was one time in particular where i was listening to music, when opening the recents menu and opening a recent app caused a serious crackling distortion.
Should I return my phone?
Side note: have tried safe mode. Crackling still occurs. Have tried repeating the same file. Crackilng does not occur at the same time.
Second side note: on version 119. Phillipines has no updates beyond that.
Mine does it too. This phone has more bugs than a bush tucker trial!
Haha. Yeah, it does. I've also have had apps randomly open sometimes and another music player play for a few seconds when I press play on Spotify, then return to spotify. I'm planing to try and have my handset exchanged tomorrow at the store. Hopefully they will.
I do believe this phone has really great potential, if only it wasn't so buggy.
Had too sometimes.
However, I think problem is Oreo, not the phone!
I want to believe it's oreo, since everything else on my phone works great (minus the hiccups mentioned above). No wifi or reception issues. Not even sure I want to get a replacement and do a lottery again.
so glad to see its not just me. phone is terribly buggy. settings turning on and off. sometimes after being on the phone for like 5 mins, the phone locks itself. sometimes without me even touching the phone eg when im watching youtube with it propped up on my desk. has anyone who exchanged their phone actually received one that doesnt have these issues though?
whats up with the blue light remaining on in settings when you turn a setting off? UI nightmare
Hmm. This makes me think we should run a poll so we can identify the common issues everyone is having to rule out hardware issues.

A lot has to be with Oreo as these issues don't exist in other Huawei phones. Also i wonder if some of these unreleased roms that folks are using have bugs in it compared to the official roms received via OTA.
