Hello guys, pls spend some time to help me. Am a MMX A110 user, the phone is really great apart from occasional hanging. yesterday, it got hang when I tried to open the gallery, then I had no other option other than to remove the battery and turn on. When I turned it on, I was caught by surprise ,the apps which were moved to SD card where missing and the app list in settings shows some damaged icon then I rushed to gallery to find out wats happening. All my 300 photos were lost. Except my contacts and messages everything were corrupted. Though I recovered most of the lost stuff. I still lost many important memories. Later, I formatted my memory card to solve this issue.
can anybody , tell me why this thing happend.?
Kindly suggest me 2 things
1)a backup app which can function without internet connection and can synchronize it with my computer
2)Security app something like an antivirus.
Please help me.
If your device is rooted then you can use Titanium backup cause it's the best app to backup your apps and restore them anytime. You can use Dropbox, Box and Google Drive in Titanium backup and Carbon, I don't know about My backup pro cause I haven't installed it. Other options are Carbon backup and My backup pro ,etc.
As for your second answer I use Avast! antivirus for myself as it offers the protection that other paid antivirus apps provide plus if your phone is rooted it has a firewall which blocks unnecessary apps from gaining Internet access and saving your precious mobile data. It also has a great anti theft protection which can survive factory reset if your phone is rooted. Other options are Lookout, McAfee, AVG, etc
Hit thanks if I helped.

I am new to android , being a WM ex-pat, so forgive my ignorance. Had this new phone a couple of weeks now and have encountered a big problem with it. At first it seemed fine, but after a week it ran out of internal sd memory, despite only having 250mb worth of stuff on it, the1.7 gb was full.
Cut a long ..etc. Seems sd/android/data/com.cooliris.media/cache/hires-image-cache ,is the culprit.
Every time media scanner runs it fills this cache folder with DUPLICATES (I suspect) of what has already been scanned, instead of adding only new stuff.
consequently the internal sd memory fills in less than a day.
I figured that rooting was the answer, so have successfully rooted, (with help of this forum, ) and tried using autostarts to disable media scanning , but , of course that means I cant access any media without it running. Since i havent been able to find an answer to this anywhere else, wonder if someone could tell me how to
sort this problem,?? (as its driving me nuts!!) Thanks folks.
sorry,don'know why
I don,t know why but since you know how to root then maybe this can help :
1. Install Titanium Backup from Market, the free version is suficient for the task. From backup/restore tab above, find "Gallery". Tap on it then select freeze. This means your Gallery app is still intact but won't run anymore.
2. Delete your culprit cache
3. Now as an alternative to Gallery app, you can use QuickPic from market.
Well, hope this solves your issue.
Thanks Distan7, - Took your advice and it done the trick!! (so far at least!)- (Had to get Tb full tho, as lite doesnt allow freezing!) This method beats my recent solution, hands down, which was to use prog called "gallery lock" to hide media from m.scanner, but its a long winded pain to use.! Tianium backup is a brilliant app! Many thanks for your help.
You're welcome mate, sorry I forgot that you need TB full to freeze apps. You could backup then uninstall Gallery using TB free, but I fear something bad might happen. Anyway TB is a great app with lots of useful features.
Hope the trick lasts
Hi a golden rule, as long your phone is rooted, a smart idea is that if you have TB and want to unistall a system app make sure at least to back it up before you unistall it!
Nothing is true....everything is permitted...
I noticed that one of the programs that is running that seems to draw a fair about of battery power on a constant rate is is called com.bn.cloud.svc
is this some type of cloud storage?
if so I do not need it, is there a safe way to disable it?
I'm not sure exactly what it does, but I was always suspecting that it was syncing your purchases from B&N to the Nook Tablet and B&N's servers.
I was too scared to do it because of this...I have purchased books and I definitely want to keep my access to their content. It is, afterall, why I purchased the NT. Rooting/making it a tablet-like experience is all extra (for me at least)
Ok I'm tryng to using titanium backup pro to freeze it
Ok I'm tryng to using titanium backup pro to freeze it it does not sem to stop anything I want to do.
but I'l have to check if TB pro uses it own overhead to freeze it, thereby defeating battery usage savings.
You can just firewall it off with droid firewall - when I've done this it actually wouldn't launch in the background. I've also removed the app from the system/app folder (and any other b&n ones too) to a backup folder, and everything ran fine (and worked fine again after moved back+reboot). Shop seems to be the one you want to keep if you want to access your purchases.
Hey guys
this is my situation. I have my stock ROM configured just the way i want it working, over 157 apps installed on my sd-ext partition using link2sd working with no issues whatsoever. have everything backed up with titanium. have a ton of apps that i keep frozen till i need them (this is important i find to keep the system from slowing down to a snail's pace).
I hesitate to try new ROMs because of the hassle involved in setting up everything again. even with titanium its a pain. I find i always end up restoring my nandroid backup after fooling around with a new ROM for a bit (just did it again :x). Initially i thought that once i create a link 2sd partition, all these issues will be solved. i was wrong.
Recently i installed Apocalypse 17.6.12 and managed to get my sd-ext to mount. however all the settings for my apps are messed up and not all of them where detected/restored from the partition properly. moreover, all my frozen apps were suddenly unfrozen leading to system crashes and low disk space warnings.
so how do you guys deal with this. this is keeping me away from really giving new ROMs a go. just takes too much effort to get all my stuff in place.
please help.
Maybe because of the rom. I got them messed up this morning

Do you get a message saying Mount Warning when it reboots?
TB has issues when used on this ROM and another one named DEMOCRACY.
App you can backup with astro or ES File Explorer. Data, you might just wanna try MyBackup and try whether that works.
so you're saying i will have to reinstall all these apps from TB or another backup app?
Im not getting any mount error message.
this sucks.
With tb you can restore your app data

No. No need to reinstall again all apps if you have tb buyed

Well, my only suggestion here would be to use Titanium since its what I always use and never ever had problems with it. Keeps everything exactly the way it is and always works wonders.
But seeing as you're having problems with it, I don't really know what to recommend. :/
I would suggest:

In my opinion its the best tool ever for this job.
Hope it helps
I use Go Bacup. It is good for bacup & restore all data and apps.
Sorry for bad english.
Almost all my data has been stored by default to my internal storage. Pictures, DL's, I figure I will sync to my laptop and back them up there, but there must be an easier way all you flash addicts are doing it. And TB is still preferred method to back up and restore all apps, msgs and call logs?
Is there a good startup noob guide? Things change so fast around here I never know if the guides are now obsolete.

Clockworkmod recovery......for a complete backup...
and although TB is a great app, it seems to cause as many problems as it solves..
the app pulls data into a fresh build (on occasion) and causes problems when setting up..
I personally load "all" of my apps from the market again, on a fresh rom install....g
Most would store their downloads and pics on the external sd card. Contacts should be made google contacts that way they sync automatically. And Titanium backup works well. You just have to know what to restore. Issues are usually attributed to user error by not knowing fully what they are doing.
Taking everyone's valuable suggestions one step further, send backups from external sd card to Google Drive or Dropbox.

So you change the default settings of where to store dl's and photos every time you flash a new rom?

When I restore I log in to google and get TiBU.
I make sure it knows my backup folder location.
I restore the apps I backed up. Never select restore system apps.
Then I restore sms and calls. When I restored those apps they get their settins restore so I don't have to do anything.
So the only location I check/change is TiBU.
I used to CWM but now I use TWRP for flashing and creating backups. I also use TB pro and I have to say I haven't had any problems but I do only restore apps and their data and nothing else. I also have become a fan of My Backup. I am able to backup and restore how I have my icons saved on my screen. Makes it real easy and quick to get back up and running.

You can save the launcher and it's data with tibu also, no need for a second app...That's what i do
hell some launchers have a backup option built into them.
Serious? Well face palm myself. I never paid attention that TB did.

Just so you know, nothing on your internal or external SD is affected by flashing a ROM. Sounds like you think you might lose your pictures and downloads. They will be safe unless you format them.
OK, so I bought the pro version of TiBu, actually had a tough time getting it to sync with the free version and recognize the key on fresh rom install....
But my bigger problem after rom install hand TiBU restore...I am getting 3 errors and it caused the phone to hang so bad, had to do a factory reset and start from scratch with everything.
1. Calendar sync not working properly
2. Messages sync not working properly
3. Android.process.acore not working properly.
I would love to flash roms more often but dont out of fear of having to restore everything I liked back manually (I have to learn how to backup launcher too BC that is a big time factor in setup after a flash)

The trick is the System Apps. If they're Green then you can usually backup and restore them without any issue. If they're Red then you shouldn't back them up and restores won't be useful.
For some of the Green items (e.g., messages, bookmarks, call log) there's a Yellow equivalent which indicates XML. For these, you should favor the XML since it'll restore across ROMs better.
For all apps, if you switch between ROMs that are extremely different (for example, if you jump straight from stock GB to CM9(ICS) then there can be problems. You can usually get around these by uninstalling the offending app, installing from Play Store and then restoring just the data.
I feel like I have no control over my android. Basically something that's simple on Windows it's so hard on Android.
I'd like to copy an app from one phone to another phone but bummer, I need to login again and most settings are gone.
For example I have WhatsApp, but I lost that number. I'd like to move my WhatsApp to a new phone but can't without that sim card or changing number.
I was wondering if some virtualized app like parallel spaces could backup and restore app data.
Or what suggestions do you guys have for future apps? I really feel frustrated and sad.
