[Q] Wifi issue in the Xperia X10 - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I rooted and loaded the custom ROM on my Xperia X10 exactly following the instructions on the video found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305945 (Installed the ROM specified in the OP of that thread)
It works well, except for one issue. The wifi doesn't connect automatically to my home network even when within range; one second it is connected and the next it disconnects and doesn't re-connect. I then have to go to Wireless settings and wait for it to connect, which might happen immediately or after I select Connect. Sometimes, it just goes through a Connecting-Disconnected loop. Any ideas?
I've already set the sleep policy to Never and forgotten the network and added it again.
Apologies if this was answered before; if it was, I'd really appreciate someone pointing out the solution to me.

Open build.prop in root/system, mount as r/w
Search for this line and change scan interval to 30 second (or fewer) :
Code:
wifi.supplicant_scan_interval=30
You're done :beer::thumbup:

From first impressions, that *looks* to have sorted the problem out. Much thanks :good:

Unfortunately, that hasn't solved the problem, even after setting the interval to 10.
The problem goes like this:
I'm within WIFI coverage area of my home wifi, and the first time I switch wifi on, it connects automatically. After sometime, it just disconnects without reason as I'm using my mobile without moving out of coverage area. Now the most irritating part is that it doesn't connect automatically again. I'll then have to go to my wifi settings, select my wifi network (which proves that it's still in range) and select connect again. This again doesn't work all the time, and sometimes it just goes through the scanning->connecting->disconnected cycle. wifi sleep policy is set to Never fwiw.
I want to know how to stop it from disconnecting randomly even when within range, and connect automatically when in range, as this is extremely infuriating to use now
Is this a known issue with the mod that I'm using? If so, is there any other mod that I can use?
PS - The wifi was alright in the original SE device before rooting.

I have had this happen too.
I'm using DoomKernel V6 [root] on GB 2.3
Wi-Fi is active in a Wi-Fi coverage area with a stable connection and good signal.
Screen times out and after some time the phone is used again and screen unlocked.
Wi-Fi does not attempt reconnect to Access Point.
Status shows Wi-Fi in a state of scanning.
Preferred SSID is shown as available with good signal., but not connected/connecting
Disable Wi-Fi and re-enable Wi-Fi
Connection is re-established.
I have an XPERIA S v4.0.4 in the same Wi-Fi coverage zone using the same SSID and it connects every time. Just unlock the screen and a couple of seconds the preferred SSID is connected/re-connected. Every time.
XPERIA X10i
I did at one stage have a timed Airplane mode app that would disable Telephony and 6 hours later re-enable Telephony.
I was on a GB v2.3 build with DoomKernel V6 and XS system apps and after Telephony had been disabled is was _not_ possible to establish a Wi-Fi connection without restarting the phone. Although some times you could 'jag' it and make a re-connection, but mostly, it would only say disconnected and no options would re-establish a Wi-Fi connection to the preferred AP even when it was seen as an available AP and good signal. Disable and enable Wi-Fi did nothing.
After numerous other ROM/Kernel installs over time, I'm now back on GB v2.3 and DoomKernel V6 [root] with XS system apps.
This time round I only have to disconnect/re-connect to establish a Wi-Fi connection. No more phone reboots required, even in airplane mode.
Many times the Wi-Fi connection does re-establish itself, it's just a nuisance when it doesn't do it every time and you have to disable/enable Wi-Fi to establish a connection.
What I've tried without success.
[X] Added a static ARP on the router
[X] I changed wifi.supplicant_scan_interval down to 50 from 120 no change after a couple of days.
[X] Changed advanced Wi-Fi timeout from AC power and screen-off
I'll check logcat next time and see if that gives any clues.

Thanks for the input
Now, can someone swoop in and tell the solution?

Anyone?

If no one has any idea, are there steps on how to install a new custom ROM instead of the existing one?

seems that your bootloader is locked because i saw on that thread that you talking about that you are on Zdzihu cm7 rom with his kernel for locked bootloaders ... so i recommend this one to you :
http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zhdzap0cek4pkvh
by ThJap its totally fast and stable with no issues
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193001
just download the zip file and put it on sd card then go to xrecovery :
1. Full wipe, Wipe dalvik cache, and wipe battery stats.
2. Flash the ThGo_v.XXX.zip package via xRecovery
then its done.

Wifi switching itself off

HI all i have a G2 Touch unlocked running Modaco's latest rom and i cannot get the wifi to stay on longer than about 5 seconds. It does search and find networks and i have managed to put in the key for my orange box but in settings/wireless controls/wifi the box stays ticked and underneath the words WIFI it says disconnected. Ive gone to advanced and told it to never switch from wifi and this is remembered but as i said it lasts all of 5 seconds then disconnects and i have only once seen the wifi icon in the task bar once for 5 secs then it went !! Any advice would be much appreciated thanks.
Maybe the signal's too weak and it looses connection?
No it doenst actually ever connect, the wifi program on the phone cuts out way before it ever finds a connection.
Just making sure you've done this:
Go to Settings -> Wireless Settings -> Wi-Fi settings -> Add WiFi network. Then enter the SSID and necessary security information. After all that turn WI-FI on
Thats what i do still just cuts off after maybe 5 secs !! I give up looks like i have a Hero that doesnt like wifi
Hmm, it seems that I had a similar issue, but I had enabled the Y5-Battery Saver and it continuously switched off my WIFI when I was in place where I had not been connected before. Just wondering if you have enabled the same app...

No i havent, but thanks for the suggestion

Wireless network keeps stopping...

anyone got any solution, it can drop after 10 secs, and im sitting right in front of the router.....
Possible fix:
Had the same problem - the wifi never stayed connected.
I've followed this procedure with the wife's Iphone and my X10 and it seems to work - dunno why, but it does.
BTW I have a Netgear Router.
1.) on the X10, Forget any connections you have set up with your router (Hold on the connection then select Forget)
2) Turn off WiFi (Tap WiFi)
3) Access your router and enter the Wireless section (see your manual - it varies Router to router)
4) Turn off any security you have set up on your router. You may need to APPLY the change and then RESCAN the router to actually transmit it. If you connect to the router via WiFi you may need to re-connect your computer to continue.
5) Back on the X10, turn the wiFi back on wait a minute
6) Refresh the network list (Menu button > rescan)
7) Select your Network name and connect (hold on the Network name, then select Connect)
8) The X10 should now connect to your unsecured network.
9) Back to the Router and re-enable the Network Security (APPLY and RESCAN if necessary). Again you may be disconnected if you use WiFi for your PC, so re-connect.
10) Back on the X10 and you are disconnected again. The X10 may be displaying a Password requirement, if not then Tap on your Network and select connect - it'll appear.
11) Enter your Password, and you should be connected.
Hopefully - with luck and a following wind, you are connected and it won't lose it again....
Good Luck!

[Q] Wireless issue

I've searched the forums for a similar issue with no luck, if anyone knows of a thread with a matching problem please provide a link.
My problem is that whenever I connect to my home network via wifi, I'm able to connect/disconnect a maximum of 3 times before wifi stops working completely. On the forth try, the phone will detect the network, try to connect and instantly disconnect. The only way I've been able to get wifi working correctly again is by rebooting the router, which also restarts the '3 connection' cycle.
I'm using a Netgear DG834G v2 and currently running Wolfbreak's latest version of CM6.1.3 but I've had the same issue with every other rom, including the official SE firmware, which leads me to believe that it is a router issue and not the phone itself.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
In your phone, go to WiFi settings and press options button, then select "advanced", in wifi suspension politics (or something like that) select NEVER, then download and install Blade Wifi Fix from the market (i don't know what exactly does but it will prevent WiFi disconnections and it really works), and you can try using (optional) this app to connect to WiFi, if the problem still persists i would rather think it's a router issue or something ._.
CescVicious, thanks for your help. I tried both of those apps but my wifi continues to disconnect. I'm leaning towards it being a router issue more than the phone and have posted the problem on the Netgear forums.
Thanks again.

[Q] Wifi sharing error after 40 minutes

Hi everyone,
I have the following problem:
I turn on WiFi sharing, and connect to it with my PC (Win 7). After a while (40-60 minutes) the sharing stops. The blue icon stays in the notification bar and my PC keeps reporting "connected", but nothing goes through. I cannot ping the internet, and sometimes not even my phone (sometimes pinging 192.168.43.1 works, sometimes not). I run Gingerbread 2.3.4.
If I turn off WiFi sharing and try to turn it back on, it reports "Error" on the phone, but if I now try again it works flawlessly for another 40-60 minutes.
I tried Barnacle WiFi Tether (it was even more unreliable), and some other types of Tethering apps.
I don't want to use USB tethering, because sometimes I need to connect with more PCs.
Any solution?
Is that with continous use on wifi? I.e. is there any lengthy periods where you're not actually using data, like reading a document for 10 mins?
My wifi tends to drop the connection after x amount of mins idle, it will show connected also, but it has to be disconnected and reconnected to work again, unless im downloading continously or watching a video (not letting the wifi connection idle).
Its 'normal' from my experience.
One thing you can try however is go to settings --> wifi --> menu key --> advanced and set wifi sleep policy to Never, see how that works for you?
Hi!
No, actually I am playing League Of Legends (an online game) continuosly. The connection seems to hold on longer if I am just browsing the net, but eventually it always gives up.
It was not a problem with ICS 4.0.3, but there the 3G gave up and it was really hard to get the connection back, so it was even more unusable.
Did you try altering the wifi sleep policy? See if that helps
I think the Wifi sleep policy only affects normal Wifi usage where the phone is the client. Anyway, I checked and it is already set to "Never", as you suggested.
Update: I was using XWKI4 with Nimphetamine kernel until yesterday. I have tried KI4-CFRoot kernel too, but that wasn't any better. Finally, yesterday I updated to KL1 stock kernel. I changed only the kernel, so it is a KL1 kernel with an otherwise KI4 ROM.
The sympthoms seem to have disappeared now. WiFi sharing works flawlessly. Fingers crossed...

xperia u and wifi

sorry for my poor english
I have a xperia u no brand no root or anything. I found out that when the phone is connected through wifi - my own domestic line - and goes to deep sleep, after a while - i cannot be more precise since it is never the same amount of time - it loses the connection. It appears to be still connected, since the wifi symbol is still displayed, but cannot receive or send any data. I therefore have to turn off wifi, wait for a couple of minutes, and turn it on again. During this "wifi-sleep" the phone is not aware that is not getting any data, so it won't let 3g take over. I've tried many solutions - change wifi channel, change wifi beacon - but nothing seems to work. Of course I've already set the phone not to drop connection when standby in the wifi menu. the only trick that seems to work is to use apps such as regpon wifi that keep the connection artificially "awake", but this is definitely not a solution since battery drain skyrockets.
thank you in advance
