I have just recently downloaded Titanium Backup in order to save my apps because I want to try new ROMs that say to do full wipes including EXT wipes. I was just curious what the proper way to use the program to restore apps was. Also, if Titanium Backup saves to your sd card and you do an EXT wipe, won't that delete all of your saved data? How does it restore? I hope this question isnt on the forum somewhere, I tried searching and couldnt quite find the answer i was looking for.
Thanks for the help. You guys on here have been lifesavers.
Hi,
Okay so first Titanium backup will back up your system settings and your applications and does a fine job at it too! When you wipe your Ext2/3/4 partition all your doing is cleaning off any data held in it. This does not effect your fat 32 partition which is where all your stuff is (pictures, albums, films, ringtones etc) I haven't deleted my fat32 partition ever as this never needs touching really. Apps2sd runs from your Ext partiton so wiping will kill all your apps but this is where Titanium comes in and as it saves to the fat32 partition you have no worries wiping. Also suggest backing up on a PC, I do once a week and saved me a few headaches
Open Titanium and hit menu, then batch. This will bring up a list of options to 'Run' backup or restore. I would strongly suggest also to donate $3.99 for the paid version with the hyper shell.
Anything else you need help with?
Nope. Thanks man. I just needed a few things cleared up before I went ahead and wiped my ext. You were a great help.
No problem, glad to have helped
you say it saves system settings...
so i have about 30 ringtones set to specific contacts, if i wipe/flash a new rom.
restore using titanium backup. Will all those ringtones be set back to the proper contacts automatically with TTB? cuz its a pain in the *** setting them each new rom
i tried mybackup pro a long time ago and it didn't do this which is why i don't waste my time with that app. (that may be changed now, it's been about 8 months)
would I be able to Restore my backup if I have flashed a new rom without problems?
I'm having problems with Titanium Backup. I made backup of a lot of apps before flashing some new stuff to my Galaxy S, but now when I try to restore them it just gets stuck. At first there's that little window saying restoring, but that disappears and it seems like everything is fine. However, when I try to restore next app it just says that a process is already running and it stays that way until I kill it via Autokiller. The app gets installed so that's fine, but the problem is that I would really like to just run a batch-operation and not have to kill the Titanium-process for every app i have back-up of...
Any solutions good people of XDA?
check at the new version, it has an alternative restore mode that you need to enable for it to work on the galaxy s
Another restore question
I installed Titanium backup on my Galaxy S Captivate yesterday, did a batch backup of "all user apps + System Data" in the list it showed the bloatware ATT apps which I wanted to uninstall but with the option of reinstalling them if I ever needed to bring the phone back to ATT.
I did a test uninstall of one of the market apps and then did a restore and it worked fine. Then I tried to un installed one of the ATT apps, which worked but when I tried to restore it by clicking on the crossed out app at the bottom of the list, there is no option to restore it, just delete.
Did I do something wrong with the backup or am I not restoring it properly? my test worked fine so I thought I had it figured out but obviously I am doing something wrong.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks!
Similar problem with no luck at reinstalling Att apps. I accidently deleted google talk and now cannot download new apps.
I have a similar question to the OP.
If I use the Master Clear or whatever is called to restore my phone to stock...that is supposed to delete the internal SD Card so, if I were to copy the Titanium Back Up folder to my PC then copy it back to the SD card after the clearing is done...would that be enough to restore all the games and apps?
I have titanium backup stored in sdcard, this backup is settings/wallpaper, is possible to extract from this file only wallpaper, without restoring all backup to the phone??
My news app/widget not working on MY HTC DHD even after several reboot/restart. So I decided to back up the apps and widget trough titanium backup and uninstall the app+widget. After reinstalling the apps/widget. the news app is working again but the widget, I cant find it in widget menus when I tried to add it to home screen.
Any help appreciated.
Thx

Also have a question about this program
It's restores my apps great. Very happy about it. But when you have installed ur apps back.
When I go to the android market they are not listed in my apps.
Though when i go and look for the app in the store it says installed. Yet can't check the allow automatic update checkbox.
Hope I make sense???
So I can't update it basically???Or when there is an update it will show up in my apps ???
My SD card was fried last night... everything gone. Good thing I backed up everything onto my laptop last week. Got a new SD card and copied everything over from the laptop. When I go into TB app, it doesnt show what I copied over. SHows I have no apps in memory... I made sure to copy everything into the "Titanium Backup" folder in my SD card. This happened to me as well. Go into the "more" option thru Titanium and select the Market Doctor. This should link your apps back up with the Market. Also, sometimes simply installing an app thru the Market and/or a reboot will get my installed apps to show up properly.
OK thanks. Will try it out.

Hope that worked, but just in case, there's another way. Once in Titanium, click backup/restore, and then scroll to your desired app. Long press the app and then click the option to "attach to market (forced)."
Market Doctor - Amazon Market
I installed a new ROM and restored my apps with TiBu. I was having some syncing problems in the Android Market so I ran Market Doctor. The problem is that I did not know to de-select the Amazon sourced apps so 47 of them got linked to the Android Market. I have since manually de-linked (long press) each of those apps solving most of the problem but they still show up in the Market list but under the 'Not Installed' section at the bottom. Is there a way to permanently break the link? I am concerned about having to deal with it in the future. Maybe re-run Market Doctor following the proper de-select process?
i accidentally or mistakenly uninstalled titanium back up cause i wanted to purchase the pro version. but now it downloads from market but wont install it.
i have tried rebooting and everythign but it will download but wont install it no matter what i try. by the way im scared to even flash the phone again cause i cant back nothing up.
anybody got any idea what i can do to fix this?
The pro version you paid for is just the key for the app. Titanium needs to be installed first if that's what your asking. Reinstall titanium then reinstall the key.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.

Did you do a nandroid backup? Only things you have downloaded since then wouldnt be there. It's also a good idea to copy everything from both sd cards to your computer once in a while. Kind of a fail safe idea

what is nandroid back up ? lolz is it from the clockwork recovery?
and how do u check if you have the pro version ? cause i bought it and both have been installed but how do i make sure or be able to check and confirm?
Go to market and open through the pro app. If you can do batch operations without clicking individual apps yours pro. Nandroid is a full system snapshot rom apps everything. You make one through rom manager app. If you mess anything up you can restore that. Make one when everything is working.

attached is a pic of what the market should look like if you have purchased the PRO-KEY(but still need to update) both should show as installed. If it says "purchased" then you are having market issues. Continue to try to download/install either way as stated b4 you need both.
Use some file manager ie: root explorer or astro.... locate sdcard/TitaniumBackup/backup..... (even if you uninstall TB i believe this file should still exist, i really dunno) if you have a file there it should be your last backup you made using TB and ur good to go! if not unfortunately ur gonna have to start from scratch.(unless you have a nandroid from a previous setup if so you'll have to restore that nandroid and then using the same file tree find the TB-backup file) personally i'd start over. Either way thats where TB stores your backups simply copy them from there to your PC to backup ur TB backups
Nandroids are stored in sdcard/clockworkmod/backup... Nandroids are created in recovery mode or using ROM MANAGER (i believe both are stored in the same place i dunno i really never use ROM manager other than to access recovery mode when certain roms dont have the power menu option sorry) Either way if you have a file there simply copy it from there to your PC as well BOOM! MEGA backup backups! (i secretly put my backups on other peoples PC's as well)

thanks bro i got it done. it was awesome. will do a nandroid back up everytime before i flash. just to make sure.
So I finally got my Transformer Prime and rooted it manually using the NachoRoot method because I wanted to get rid of all the ASUS bloat apps. After I rooted it, I installed Titanium Backup (free version cause my Market account is broke right now with purchases stuck in the Pending state) and since I couldn't use the "Freeze" function with the free version, my n00bness thought that if I backed them up first using Titanium Backup, then deleted them, that Titanium Backup would be able to restore them, but I found out the hard way, that wasn't the case... I've since read that it will only restore them if the app is still on the device.
So, my question to the people with more wisdom then myself is...
Is there a manual way to get those apps back on there via the backups that TiBa made?
I tried unarchiving them and manually putting the .apk's back in /system/app/ folder, but I noticed that the .odex file I don't have anymore and they're not showing up in the app drawer just putting the .apk files in there by themselves.
Is there anyone that would be so gracious as to do a full dump of the /system/app/ folder on the 8.8.3.33 build so I can just put the .apk's and .odex's back in there using Root Explorer?
My goal is to get those back in there the way it came stock and go back to using the Freeze method so it doesn't remove them so I don't have any issues when the ICS update hits.
Thanks in advance for anyone who chimes in to help!

i experience with Tbu is that you can batch add apps and their data regardless of whether you have them on the device or not... thats the whole point of it
and there is a dumb i believe in the development area... if i had my cable at work i woulda done it
but as long as you backed up in Tbu, just batch install them all
System dump: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1418487
Also, next time do a NAND backup of possible.
You could always reflash your ROM too.
And yes, Titanium backup keeps all the files you backed up in a folder. So even if you removed it from your device. Titanium has a copy on your SD card.
Thanks for the reply.
When I go into the batch section (I'm now on the paid version of TiBa), if I go into "Restore all apps with data" or "Restore missing apps with data", those both show nothing in the list to restore... but I know they're there cause I see them on the SD card in the TitaniumBackup folder and if I do a "Verify all your backups", they all show up.
I take it I'm missing something or am in the wrong menu?

No, does the same thing as when I try to restore with data... just sits there saying "restoring" but I can let it go for 10 minutes on just one app and I eventually just force quit it since I know it's not doing anything.

Okay, so I downloaded that dump (thank's for the link)... so if I just put in the .apk and .odex for each app TiBa removed, will that do it? Is there anything else attached to each app that would go anywhere else besides the user data (which I don't want anyway)?
If you see tbu app backup stuff on your memory card you may need to go into the settings menu of tbu and change backup folder location to the place where that folder is on your sd

how would you do a NAND backup without booting into ClockworkMod? Unless i've missed it somewhere that is not yet available on Primes, and there are no ROMS available as of yet.

Okay, so I downloaded that system dump and tried taking the apk and odex for AppLocker (one I had removed with TiBa) and put them in /system/app/ and set the permissions the same as the other apps in the app folder and restarted the device... AppLocker doesn't show up in the app drawer
Any ideas why?

And how would I flash an update if it's already on the latest version from ASUS?
You should be able to push the apk to system to data - the odex should be created in dalvik_cache on boot (you need to rename them if you want to move them into /system)
what happens if you just run the apk? will it not install itself?

have you tried putting .33 on an sd card and doing a manual update. I know you already have it on, but if you put it on the sd card, it usually asks again if you want to update.
simple question
I DONT WANT THE BASIC APKs like CONTACTS, MESSAGES etc in my phone I want to replace them with a third party app like GO CONTACTS, GO MESSAGES PRO. when I am customising my miniCM7-2.1.8 in dsixda kitchen. and which .xml file I should edit if I delete the basic APKs.
thanks to everybody in advance who will try to help me

you dont need to edit anything.. if you already flashed rom, use titanium backup app to delete unwanted apps (stock contacts, sms, ...)
if you didn't flash rom already (or you plan to flash it again, and do clean install) just open minicm7***.zip on your pc with winrar/7zip and remove unwanted apps from system/app
you can also add wanted apps (go contacts, etc) there simply by drag and drop method via winrar/7zip, but i recommend that you put them to data partition, because probably they won't be recognized by market if they are in system partition, so you wont be notified for updates..
ok I will try the first one
and what if I want to install some selected APK on my sdcard and thats during flashing so I dont have to install them aftwre flashing and I want to change the launcher also
and thanks for quick reply

my suggestion is to remove all unwanted apps from rom, all except launcher because you need it (you can remove it later with titanium backup, when you install some other launcher). then flash rom and install all apps from sd card. (i know that its pain in the ass, but you need to do this only once) then install app titanium backup (it's paid app but it's easy to find apk on the internet, if you get me ) and then make batch backup of all user apps.
and then in the future whenever you reinstall rom, or even install some other rom, you just need to install titanium backup and select option "batch restore user apps" and then you can choose what apps you want to restore from previous backup, and all apps will install automatically, you only need 1 click and it's done. that will restore all your apps and all settings in those apps. i really think that's the best way to mass install apps.
An easy way to remove preinstalled apps, is with the flashtool, which you need anyway to flash kernel. There is a option called: clean junk apps.

I've created a backup called "app +data (easy import)".
Now I can't find any option to restore an app from this backup.
Not from dropbox nor from a titanium backup folder.
Titanium does not see this file and says there is no backup for that app.
So how to restore an app from this kind of backup??
Try clicking on the backup file either in Dropbox or the local file system and running it. Titanium Backup will then ask if you want to restore the app and or data. I know I saved my backup in Gmail, and after downloading, I just press view in Gmail itself and TiBackup will show that dialog.
Sent from my HSPA+ Nexus Prime using Tapatalk 2
it was enough to update to the nevest verssion.
Now I have a bigger problem.
It does not restore any data of system apps.
Not Go Launcher, nor Go sms, or rom settings are being restored.
I've tried to flash the rom again an then restore - no result.
How to force titanium to restore system apps data?
ps. I was able to do it before. It's just stopped working.
Hi I am having similar problems, backed up using easy backup apk & data, sent via gmail to my other phone with Titanium backup on it, when I open it TB recognises it and says please wait, but nothing happens the app does not install. It is only a widget that I want installed but its not having it :crying:
Also I have a tf101 which is not rooted is there anyway I can unzip without TB to use this free widget as its not on the general market, I have a paid version of TB and using the latest release, but obviously not on the tf101.
Any help appreciated as it is frustrating I cannot save apks to other phones.
Thanks

I never found the correct answer to this question, which - from my experience - is a rather improbable one. This is the answer:
Find your TiBkp file with some kind of file explorer. In my case: I used "root explorer", probably any other one will do as well. Tap on it.
You will see: "No activity found to open this file."
Your options are
a) cancel
b) open as.
Choose "open as".
Now you get a lot of options (I see seven). One of them is: APK file. Choose it.
Now you may select an "option for null" (probably the null refers to the unknown file extension TiBkp) .
The options are: cancel, view and Install.
Choose install.
Now you get the option from Titanium backup to restore your files. And that works perfectly.....
Cheers :victory:
Hello, i Know this thread is old, but i seem to have run into the same problem. My tibkp file is grayed out and i can't access it. and when i navigate to it and try to open it, it won't give an option to open it with Titanium. Help please. Thank you
PS I have a rooted S7 Edge. Thank you
Hm.. I'm having a similar issue: I can't import .TiBKP files anymore; two devices, S6 Edge running SuperSU-rooted nougat, and Tab S2 running magiskSU-rooted nougat (in both cases the nougat itself is from samsung)
Hello im having troubles backing up an app.
Whenever i back up i get three files (.apk .tar and one PROPERTIES) instead of the .TiBkp. I cant restore said files.
Help please.
New phone, Old problem. Trying to use .TiBKP files to migrate apps&settings from my old phone to my new one, rather than just simply copy everything using smart switch, but opening them in Titanium Backup is NOT an option for .TiBKP files.
Any hints?
