The jelly bean o/s - HTC Desire X

PLEASE KEEP TO TOPIC
This thread is about the actual functionality of the New Jelly Bean update for the Desire X
and not whether you have it or not. Thats discussed on other threads.
I have come from Froyo on the Wildfire to the DX with ICS...well i can still do all what i have done in the past, but much better.
What improvements will JB bring to the DX. Can some one explain what we should see.
I have seen some one already explain, but it would be nice to get another point of view.
Some have issues and some dont, it confusing for us noobs:silly:
What is the hype behind it.
The reason why i am concerned is that some guys want to revert back to ICS, and thats not what it should be. JB should be an improvement.
lastly, the few hicups people have with the latest JB, could it be to an app or user related issue.

Same as you I have came from Froyo to Jelly Bean itself first of all the update was great Speed improvements were there (example is scrolling wallpapers in personalize its feels like the HTC One. Second the new software We all know Beats audio got screwed up by the OTA but HTC fixed it with anothe OTA and now bass is back This Update also enables us to test new software and to discover new things with Sense 4+ and also a feel of Jelly Bean, remember not all devices could get an update from their own manufacturers so were lucky enough to get this lol now we just need to deodex the stock JB ROM and custom ROMs would be all over the forum (I could do one now just no time to deodex the JB Stock ROM).

Wow, this is a positive post. Positive info that i expected.
Thankyou

See it this way,
Jelly bean is the LATEST android OS (although 4.2 > 4.1) but still, the CURRENT SUPER PHONE (HTC ONE) which gives Galaxy IV a scare, was also on 4.1.2 and will get 4.2.2 in a few days. So technically, after JB update, we are having one of the most updated devices around for such money.
Think again what happens to similarly priced samsung n sony phones, (believe me, most are stuck at ICS officially forever).
ON-TOPIC:
JB Sense4+ might not be what you expect, BUT the kernel source code, and libs will enable atis112 and others to port FULLY WORKING CM10 ROMS with Project Butter.
We'll soon get kernel 3.4 source which will be a platform for YEARS to come and keep this device alive. believe me.
My cousins with xperia U/sola, galaxy duos, etc will be stuck @ ICS officially.
Regards
Yasir

Yasir, thankyou for your post, it does give me confidence going forward.
Although i dont understand your last sentence, but it does sound good any way.

I said yesterday that Jelly bean is not so cool..i was stupid, its f....n awesome. Its faster than ICS, web browser and downaloading too. Right now my download speed is 2,5mb/s. With ICS it was hardly reach 1mb/s. Google Now is really good, i can search the nearest restaurent with my voice and it supports hungarian so its good for those who dont speak english (like me )

I'd like to say something on this thing since Yasir already mentioned it(sorry op kind of off-topic)
the 3.4 kernel is actually very exciting because currently barring HTC jb devices this is present on only the latest nexus devices(4, 10) only even nexus 7 is on 3.1 and Samsung devices(yes even s3) is on 3.0 .Thus we are currently on the latest version (officially not true android on 3.8 but we are one of the top few and latest currently) . Also this proves that HTC put a lot of effort (yeah was a Samsung Guy so I know what I'm talking about) thus according to me we should get 4.2 also(surity of about 83%) the real question will be if we get 5.0 or not.
PS I like the stripped down sense.

Htc One X JB kernel : 3.1
Wow, Desire X has a newer kernel, awesome.

All of you are talking about newer kernel, but how will it affect the end user experience? I don't talk about developers, i mean people that buy phone and don't even know about custom ROMs, using stock firmware

You can mock people with high end phones just kidding (although it's true) but don't know the real reason for user who's no developer.

Ace ICECREAM SANDWICH update?

does our sga is capeble of getting the android 4.0 ice cream sadwich update or we have to be happy with gingerbred only???????????
Just wait for cm8.
We'd be the last family of devices to get ICS TBH if ever
I believe it has the chance of getting ICS but definetly not from Samsung. SGA has a very large amount of users and skillful developers who could make it happen.
We may have to be patient though.. Even Nexus S, which has the official support from Google, hasn't even recieved the upgrade yet. CMIIW.

They won't be pushing ICS to Nexus S when Prime hasn't even been out and ICS unveiled in Hong Kong on Wednesday.

Yeah.. Lame old marketing tactics lol.
By the way, I've seen some leaked videos of Prime and S running ICS and from there I could understand that even S wont have the exact same version of ICS the Prime will have... Well at least for the GUI.
Have a look at this.

couldnt agree more
If I had to choose I'd rather have a completely stable and optimized Gingerbread instead of an ICS. Stable meaning every feature working the way it should, like my wifi actually reconnecting after sleep.
The main advantages on ICS are:
1) dual core support and hardware accelerating
2) New UI.
Because neither of those are relevant to Galaxy Ace, I'm fine with Gingerbread.
But XDA developers are really fast and they will port ICS even if Samsung wouldn't.
but i have heard taht the update will be for 1 yr old devices i think galaxy ace is 1 yr old only...so we can get

Yeah maybe for some high-end devices that is..
And really, I wouldnt expect much from Samsung in the term of firmware updates.
Maybe we could just put our hope on a new ICS-based CM instead
google announced that it will be available for the first 18 months for existing phones...

im hoping it would come to our devices.
Yup there's a new agreement for companies to provide software updates till the 1 year or so is up. We're probably getting it but of course they will prioritize.
New version of OS is one of marketing tricks to lure people into buying new phones, I'm quite sure that we won't see ICS stock from Samsung, but nevermind, we have great developers, so just wait for CM 8 an' see

It'd really be pointless though. ICS is a much more optimised version of HC which should bring full SMP support through software, something that has gone begging for quite a while to take advantage of phones like the S2. Maybe they are adding GPU rendering as well. Another useless perk for the Ace as the GPU is ****.
Also, why bother porting ICS to ARMv6? It's a complete waste of resources when it's almost likely to provide little to no benefit.
My opinion at least. Don't get your hopes up for ICS/ICS-based CM8.
I know (SGA even don't have flash) but at least they'll take some interface tweaks and eyecandies

And what about some battery improvements in ICS? Maybe the phone won 't go faster but battery life could be higher. Or am i wrong?

JellyBean Port?

JellyBean was ported form the Nexus Devices that were given out at I/O, is there a chance that a developer will port this to the maxx and og razr?
oh. my. god. i am going to have to switch to iPhone or go mad.
someone or some people will be allready on it and why not if tyhe source code is out
ICS is nice but i get the feeling its gonna be Androids Vista people might just skip for Jellybean
Some of us my friend still don't have ICS....let alone JB
Sources not available yet... But i think that changes only affects android platform and not kernel. All HW accel was done in 4.0, so 4.1 should only optimize android itself (dalvik, gui underlying libraries, etc).
Nexus and RAZR share same CPU (OMAP4430/4460 - the only difference is CPU freq, so technically we can use libs from nexus without any problem and without recompilation since libraries already optimized for or CPU), same GPU (PVR SGX 540, however nexus's GPU is slightly overclocked) - so H/W accel should not be a problem
So there is a good change that someone will port 4.1 to our devices. Or maybe i'm just wrong
I just played w my buds verizon nexus on the team vicious jelly bean and it is nice! Smooth. Siri like voice assistant that really does a lot. I didn't expect it to be such a large update. I like and of course am hoping to get it on the RAZR soon but as it is ics is very very nice

That sounds like an excellent strategy, because as we all know, hearing about a new OS makes our phones turn from great to absolutely unusable piles of junk. And, I want to help. I'll offer you FIVE DOLLARS for your Razr. SIX dollars if it's a Maxx. AND, I'll throw in an additional quarter if it has a 32gb or larger memory card. You can put this money towards a new iPhone 4s!
WOW, it feels great helping people! Yay me!
I'm going to wait a little while long for the OTA for ICS in Canada (rogers), but i'm getting tired of waiting!!! lol for my first android phone, was expecting a little more, but... after a "little while" i'm going to figure out how to push a image of ICS lol
i hope JB comes to the razr, but i'll just be happy with ICS

Seriously, just because JB has been announced, doesn't make ICS any less awesome. It flies on the Razr, I love it (leaked .211). It seems like now people are starting to get the attitude that just because JB is going to be released soon, makes ICS ancient and unworthy for their device. I've seen people across this, and other forums, talking about selling their phones to get one that JB will be released to at some point. Unless you get a pure Google phone, like the Nexus, you won't be getting an upgrade to JB anytime soon. All manufacturers operate in the same mindset. Ventures that make them money is priority one, followed by other things, then other things, and then upgrading to the latest and greatest for existing devices sits kind of low. If the kernel source turns out to be an ICS based kernel, I'm sure that one of the devs will be cranking out a version for us to flash in SS 2.0.
From the sounds of it we should at least get some sort of port. One thing that concerns me is how the performance boost will affect battery. The whole 60fps thing would surely eat through any power source. My bro has a gnex so I'll see soon enough.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
Let's try to keep some perspective... this fall, it's released, then the manufacturers and carriers go through the process to make it work on their own hardware, and it gets pushed in Q1 or Q2 of 2013.
This is not an impending thing.
Do I have too much faith in da devs then? My old device was a desire z and got ics ported to it about 6 weeks after release. The RAZR is much close in hardware to the gnex and ics is much closer in code to jb. I'm not putting money on it but I am hopeful.

the devs at droidrazr.com are already going to be working on porting jellybean to the razr & maxx. as far as an ota since 4.1 is a minor update it shouldn't take moto long to get it going for us.

LOOK AT moto with ICS and not only them but every other manufacturer ICS was released over a year ago and now its finally being pushed out to the razr barely. So when JB gets pushed out to the razr and thats a big if I would just hold my breath for about a year or more. Or do like every one else flash a rom based on jb. which should be out by the start of next year or the end of this year.

[Q] Who has a good dis-assembler ?

Jelly Bean Leaked a month early.
re : http://www.slashgear.com/jelly-bean-for-galaxy-nexus-leaks-28236230/
"You can download the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update here [zip file] though be warned, it’s unclear if all the bugs have been ironed out of this version. If you want the most stable release for your Galaxy Nexus it’s probably safer to hold off until Google pushes it out OTA officially in mid-July."
This should be in Q&A shouldn't it?
Gnex rom leak has nothing to do with developing.
Even the new official Android SDK is out but still not helpful.
Well thats not entirely true. It could be ported as is being done for quite a few devices (HTC One X, Nexus S, HTC Incredible), but it won't be a built from source rom then and could be quite buggy.

JB works just fine on the unofficial CM10 by FXP too... And the official CM10 would be coming soon
2011 series wasn't even sure on ics update (which, btw came out 3 months ago, not decades). The official statement that they wouldn't get jb update came out months ago.
Tbh I don't understand why people are so avid on updates, os improvement doesn't mean your phone will work better (especially if it isn't designed for certain technical specs).
As a matter of fact no ics rom performs, lasts as much as gb ones, just the same way a pentium I 133 with 10gig hd can't run win7....
So maybe it's just me, but i really don't get what the fuss is about, not to reach the point of a petition at least.
Sony as of Q4 2011 sold 32,597,500 units (only smartphones, this does not include ps3, sony music etc). A good developer here on xda reaches on average 5 to 6.000 thanks for a modded rom, assuming there are many ungreatful people out there let's double it, that's still 10.000 times short than the market share....why would they care?
Whatever the case is, if an official version doesn't come out someone will port it and there still will be enough to play around with until our phones will eventually be replaced by newer ones
I like but ................

I respect your thinking but if the device is capable of running the software then why the company is not developing the update if no update then they should give at least the Pure Android OS Software without their customization or any thing extra with all the drivers and kernel. or they may supply the appropriate drivers for the other developers like FXP to support their devices unofficially in the background.

Why does anyone care about jellybean?

Honest question, not trying to incite argument. I'm really lost as to why so many people so passionately want jelly bean on our device. The only explanation I can come up with is it's newer so it's better. But my understanding of the changes is also very limited, so I get that I'm not exactly an authority on the subject.
I run BS X with flapp's 3.0 kernel and Nova Launcher using JB animations. Battery life is great. Animations are smooth. Flash works perfectly, and I get ICS Browser+. Bumping up to JB, I would immediately, arguably, lose two of those features (I find flash is flaky on JB). So, I guess what I'm getting at is, all I see, personally, are disadvantages to upgrading -- what are the advantages? Are there some great apps that only work on jelly bean? Other than project butter, was there a major development? Why are people so concerned about JB when we have extremely fast, stable ICS roms?
I think it's mostly just human nature at play. People always crave what they can't have. Or they want the next best thing. Those desires, plus greed, are what move societies along the development continuum. I'm not trying to make this a bad thing - its how we move forward. I just can't stand the crying and complaining from some.
Run official JB on an Officially supported device and it may make more sense to you. On the Note I bounce between ICS and JB mainly for testing purposes. On my Galaxy Nexus which is what I run daily JB 4.2.1 is the best thing since pockets.
Everyone needs pockets!

Project butter, Google now, Google keeps giving.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke

[Note User]: "I'm used to having huge stuff in my pants"
I couldn't care less about project butter..smoothness is nice, but I'm not kid. I don't need to show up my iPhone carrying friends with how amazingly my phone transitions from swipe to swipe...
Google now however...now that is worth an upgrade.
While I am so greatfull that some excellent devs have brought a half decent port to ICS ROMs...it is just that- half decent compared to it's current incarnation on job ROMs.
If there is one thing that saddens me about us being no longer in line to receive official JB on our phones, it's that we may never see the latest enhancements to GN. We have to hope that some poor, glutton for punishment dev, takes up the cause and brings us these. Unfortunately, from what I've read, this will require a complete overhaul and will need to be started from the ground up as Google has made a lot of changes to bring greater speed and functionality to search...My understanding is that, at present, there is no dev crazy enough to undertake this...
Although....ahem....cough...cough.....I have ....on occasion, ....you know....kinda questioned flapjaxxx's sanity:laugh:
If anyone can...FJ can...
but he still needs source, or it's a dead stick....
My wife has the Note2, and I gotta say, that it's a smooth and sweet running machine on Official JB.
I've always viewed ICS as the "windows ME" version of android...runs ok, but just kinda glitchy, and ultimately the stepping stone for the next generation of good software.
JB official is some badazz software...IMHO....g

Granted, I don't have room to speak on the glories of touch wiz as I write this on agnex. 4.1 and 4.2 are sweet. This thing tells me more than I need to know with Google now. Downside is Google now is a battery sucking whore.
