Hello to everyone..
I live in Argentina and my carrier is Movistar.
I have a XT912 which bought it unlocked in the US.
The phone works flawlessly with the stock rom (SMS, MMS, 3G, etc)
Recently I installed CM10.1. It work very nice but I have to issues, I can't send SMS and 3G doesn't wort at all.
If I try to send a SMS it gives me an error even though I can receive SMS.
And 3G does not work even though I go to APN settings and enter the correct Movistar settings I copied from stock rom.
Any help will be appreciated...
Thanks in advance...

I really appreciate you taking your time to answer.
I've done that several times. First times I always delete the rom slot1 then create it again and install the new nightly from CM10.1. Later I learned it isn't necessary that action so every time I install a new nightly I do what you recommend.
I try to use it frequently so the phone gets multiple reboots. I tell you this because lot of people says some things get fixed after some reboots.
Anyway if you get any new idea it would be very welcome.
Thanks..

Hi all,
I've flashed quite a few times before I settled with my current Insanity rom. But then I decided to try out some new ones since I have time during the holidays.
I tried flashing Omega and Delv with cwm (Whatever version they currently have now), both at the startup didn't allow me to bypass by pressing the 4 corners. i thought nothing of it and just continued on and restored my stuff using titanium backup. before my sms, gmail accounts and call logs will get restored but it didn't for both. so i decided to restart my phone to see if it'll come up. it did not. in fact, the data connection goes missing. (i did get data connection when i first loaded up the phone right after the flash using cwm) i only have full bar of signal, but no data.
I thought it was just a rom thing or a bad download, that's why I tried flashing another rom, but once I restart my phone, the data connection goes.
I got so frustrated that I just restored my old (current) rom from cwm.
If anyone can help me on finding out what may be the problem, that'll be great. I really do want to start flashing different roms again because I'm getting bored with my current one.
thanks in advance!

I'm sorry my English award is not very good I am a Chinese.
can you make sure that you have wipe your phone 2 times?
wipe data factory reset and wipe cache partition? before you flash a new rom?
and the problem may be your kernel don't work well . you can flash another new kernel or flash a new cwm
wipe your phone is very important
if these mind can not make your data well you should flash your phone
by odin . use this software to make your phone well
thank you for your reply.
I have wiped my phone very thoroughly: wipe cache, factory reset and even dalvik.
aren't the kernels automatically installed when i install through CWM?
i'm not too sure about this kernel thing as the many times I flashed before, I never had to install kernels on its own through odin. i just flash the zip file of the rom through CWM and it's all good.
so you're saying i should use odin to flash instead of cwm? is there a major difference? i'm much more comfortable with cwm though.
Try flashing a new modem .
Check IMEI is correct .

Have you set your APN settings correctly according to your phone carrier's settings?
Also try your carrier's CSC on your phone.
Set your APN manually, I had this before as well...
Other options is to get the Tweaker App from the Market and when connected via Wifi then it sets your APN as well.

Thanks for the suggestions.
The APN one sounds easier to do. That option's under wireless and networks correct?
Currently, I only have one selected. I'll check it out when I flash the new rom.
What's this csc though??
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
What's this csc though??
Country specific settings a list of local networks and there settings .
See stock roms thread .

You can try this fix : http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1802951
Just apply with the CWM recovery, working well for me.

Installed ressurection remix 3.1.2, all went well, love it. My first foray into Custom Roms and loving it :good:
Discovered today I cannot send Mms, done my research and tried instructions through faq provided by Petrifyre to update the SMCS - here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26793521&postcount=38793
I must have done it wrong (I didn't understand it that well if i am honest!) now I cannot even send sms, never mind mms , i am gonna do a fresh install, this time remembering to make a back up but i guess it wont work again so will need guiding through it.
Any chance of anyone walking me through it? Please help a noob out.

Sorry, this is not what you want to hear but ...
... next time use SMS Backup & Restore app from Play store before flashing a new ROM or wiping your data.
That's the way you should process everytime.
Before wiping or flashing, backup everything you don't want to lose.

i dont think that has happened cuz of the custom rom installation... jus call customer care and get the issue resolved. mostly u will need to configure MMS settings & Message Center Number(for SMS).

You won't have buggered up your SIM card - very VERY unlikely you will have done any hard damage by installing a custom ROM!
What you probably will have done is messed up your mobile internet/MMS APN settings. It's a major issue in any custom ROMs - mainly the ones that are CM based or anything non Samsung ROM based. I was having major problems with it - i use SlimBean on my S2 with Dorimanx kernel. It always fails, but after i deleted all the access points completely and then created the 2 ones specific to my network (o2), and then cleared all the App Data for messaging (very important otherwise it will still fail), all works great. By App data i mean going into the settings menu, and then into Apps, find the Messaging app, then you will see an option to Clear Cache/Clear Data. do this then force stop (NOT disable). This will ensure all works nicely.
I tried all the info on the web for setting up the APNs, none seemed to work properly - in the end i put an original Samsung ROM on, then noted down all the settings for the working APNs; then re-flashed the custom ROM, and deleted old APNs and created two new ones based on my noted settings.
Using custom ROMs is always a challenge as most people have different things installed in different ways. it's a steep learning curve, but satisfying when it works - I now find that if i try a proper Sammy ROM I end up going back to the custom ones in a day or less as they are better
Hi guys,
I wonder if someone can help me with this... really annoying problem!
I was checking out various roms i downloaded here, started with 4.0 aokp which was great, then gave cyanogen 4.2 a try, but then i wanted to go back to Aokp 4.0 cause it seemed to run faster
Now first thing, i couldnt get rid of cyanogen (no offense intended) cause when i wiped all data, cache and dalvik it just took aokp a few seconds to install from CWM recov, that doesnt seem right, right?
Then installed GAPPS, but still it ran on Cyanogen
So, i did a NANDROID backup, which made my phone like before i started with all this..
THIS IS WHERE IT WENT WRONG?
now it just wont read my simcard
i tried my sim in my old phone and that works fine, so the problem is in my phone somehow
is it something about the radio settings specific to my phone and network?
how can i change these settings and are they specific for my provider?
you guys always helped me out so i hope you know what i mean..

I've exactly the same problem.
Are your wifi and BT still OK ?
Is your IMEI (*#06#) still the same as under the battery ?
Was your phone locked ? Did you buy it with a SIM ?
My problem appeared after flashing several different modems/RILS : I got no error warning anywhere, but after reboot, I completely lost my netwerk connection. (no voice calls , no mobile data)
At first I thought a bad RIL driver, so I restored my Nandroid backup from the day before (after wipe cache/wipe dalvik/format system), but still no connection with the netwerk. and can't even make voice calls.
Then I was in panic !
After this I did a complete factory reset, and wiped/formatted cache/dalvik/system/data/SD-card and went in to download mode. After loading a stock ELLA for my region using Odin, still no connection. I was also never asked to enter the PIN-code for my SIM to unlock it.
Damned, this is an embarrassing situation : I can't think of loosing my SG3 for several weeks if I have to send it to Samsung !!
Mu phone is bought without SIM, so it's not SIM-locked.
My Wifi and BT are still OK, my IMEI is also still OK.
Any other ideas, please ?
How do I come in the service mode for the Radio ?
This is the way my netwerk is indicated : a circle with a stripe, much like the famous traffic sign.
Its fixed
So i have no idea how it eventually got fixed but if someone else has this problem, heres what i did:
Full wipe/factory reset blablabla all that
Did Nandroid restore again, put the AOKP ROM and GAPPS back on my phone
Installed ROM which was I9300CEDLI1
Used Odin to install latest CWM, which was already on there, but still
Then booted into CWM and installed .zip of course
This still went suspiciously fast since the very first time it took way longer, that worried me but,
Installed GAPPS again,
Rebooted... IT ASKED FOR MY PIN NUMBER!! hell yes that was what i wanted!
So now it again sees my simcard in there, so now i can make calls end use intnet again!
Still i think it started after the nandroid backup for some reason, or it may have been because of wiping Dalvik Cache?
I have no idea if that even makes sense

Good to hear your problem is fixed !
I'm still not able to make voice calls or enable mobile data : "insert SIM card" is the message I get.
I did already twice a full reset/factory restore and flash a stock ROM using PC Odin, but no avail.
Today I did a restore from my EFS folder using a backup that a had made before the problem appeared, but no avail.
BTW, did you also have the same indication from network status as on my screen-shot ?
Any idea what else I can try ?
I'm getting desperate .....
I'm having the same trouble after doing backup in TWRP when boot up it doesn't recognize the sim card.
I've flash CM10.1 and it only work after i remove the card e put it back on.
Try to see if it something about the simcard.

Rui
Hi,
Quick question, should I expect SMS to work on an XT912 on 3 Mobile in the UK?
Longer explanation:
It says message not sent... every... darned... time! I don't seem to be able to update the SMSC under the Testing Menu. Three mobile have a site which can push settings out, but I never receive anything. The page is here "http://h3g.hosting.smarttrust.com/mysp_h3g/sc.0"
I get the same results using Go SMS Pro. Just want to know if I'm wasting my time and should just get another phone!

It should work, you probably just need to flash a patch so your XT912 work on a gsm network just use the search button to find that forum thread.
Edit: try this one, flash the cdma to gsm patch, just make a nandroid backup first.

I've had annoying results using an XT912 with certain ROMs on 3 (Ireland) as well as with Meteor.
Stock Verizon rom 4.1.2 works well if you're in an area of good 3G coverage.
If you drop to 2G, it won't come back to 3G without being put in Airplane mode unless you apply the gsm patch mentioned above.
Several of the 4.1.2 variants left me with an inactive touchpad during voicemail calls, and attempted to handle voicemail using USSD codes which locked things up. In those situations, I was unable to edit either the voicemail number or the SMSC number.
My best results have been with cyanogenmod.
You may need to reboot twice after installation before your wifi will work.
There are mobile data issues which are helped by deleting all apn's and running the gsm patch. (clear dalvik/cache afterwards)
I had fully functioning phone with the 10.1.2 release and the specific gsm patch for that.
SMS, Mobile data, wifi, gps, camera all worked as expected.
I applied a nightly to it and lost mobile data which was a show stopper.
I'm now running 10.2 since I realised that any problems I'd had with 10.2 before were reproducible in 10.1 and also fixable.
I can confirm that all functions are working well and the phone is even moving between 2G and 3G comfortably.
The files I am currently using are:
cm-10.2-20130901-NIGHTLY-spyder.zip
gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip
signed_GSM_fix_CM10.2_spyder.zip
I've installed in a freshly created Slot 1 on Safestrap.
I keep the Verizon stock installed also in case something goes wrong, but haven't booted it since before the weekend.
Let me know if that makes sense to you, and I'll see if I can clarify anything for you that might help.
It's a great phone when it's working smoothly.
Awesome, thanks Niallb. It's good to know

Fingers crossed!
Dammit!
No joy with that suite of files. SMS still won't send. I do seem to have data, and I can take calls. I've not moved between 2 /3 areas so can't speak for any transition problems.
No SMS is a show-stopper for me unfortunately. I think I might abandon the XT912 as a nice experiment, but time to go play with something else
Thank you for your help Niall. It is very much appreciated
Have you done a factory reset from the settings and made sure to clear dalvik/cache in safestrap after applying the GSM patch?
When I dial in *#*#4636#*#* and go to Phone Info, there is initially no value in the SMSC box.
When I click on refresh, the correct number for my network appears (+353857000000)
What comes up when you hit refresh here? Make sure it's got the full international dialing code on it.
The XT912 on Verizon firmware assumes all European GSM networks are international roaming, and I had problems returning calls to people in my address book that didn't have the country code in front of their numbers - it now knows what country I'm in, so that's no longer a problem, but a similar problem might be affecting your SMSC .

Nope! I'd missed that in the instructions. I'll give that a go now
So, to get a set up equivalent to yours I should:
1. Create a new slot
2. flash "cm-10.2-20130901-NIGHTLY-spyder.zip" and "gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip"
3. Wipe Dalvik / Cache
4. Boot
5. Reboot
6. Complete initial setup
7. Flash signed_GSM_fix_CM10.2_spyder.zip
8. Wipe Dalvik / Cache
9. Run factory reset
10. Win?

I get the same behaviour as you. The correct SMSC is shown only after I hit refresh. I've checked with the provider, and it is the correct number. With the +44 code included.

Is this the country specified in the initial setup? I'm choosing English - United Kingdom.
Once again, thanks for taking the time to try to help me out!
I did it in this order, but applied the GSM patch before the first reboot.

2. flash "cm-10.2-20130901-NIGHTLY-spyder.zip" and "gapps-jb-20130813-signed.zip"
3. Wipe Dalvik / Cache
4. Flash signed_GSM_fix_CM10.2_spyder.zip
6. Wipe Dalvik / Cache
7. Boot
8. Reboot
9. Complete initial setup
10. Run factory reset from Settings menu
11. Reboot
10. Wipe Dalvik / Cache
11. Reboot
12. SMS
The country specified in the initial setup is just your preferred language.

Thank you for your help and I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner!
I found the cause of the problem by speaking to the network (3 mobile). We found that the SIM card was at fault! Probably damaged from being moved between phones frequently whilst I was getting used to the new device.
I replaced the SIM card for free at the 3 store and SMS instantly worked whichever ROM I booted in to.
Thanks again
