I can find mods out there for certain ROMs...
but are there mods for the stock/rooted ROM?
I just got a replacement Rezound. Went through the process of unlocking, s-off, root, recovery....
played with a couple ROMs and little things that bugged me made me just go back to stock. It would be nice to have a multi-option power menu or a better notification drop-down where quick settings were more feature-rich.
So short question: Are there mods I can flash out there that are compatible with STOCK...
Android version 4.0.3
HTC Sense 3.6
Software number 3.14.605.13 710RD
Thanks!!!
I'm guessing you will have to learn more about how to make the mods yourself. I haven't been able to find anything either. I kinda like the feel of the latest stock ROM myself, I just need to learn how to add things like volume wake, etc.
I'm curious, which roms did you try?
Yeah, did you try Nils Business Sense 3.6? It is based on the latest Global leak, but it is quite stable. That is what Nils prides himself on. Honestly, it is a great ROM, so you might want to give that a try. If something didn't work to your liking, you can always post on the thread for that ROM. He is quite responsive.

I've tried CM10.0 (unofficial), Newt's One XXX, Infection 2.x
I keep gravitating back to sense...i want to get away but i just can't. Sense has great FB integration, contacts integration, excellent widgets. I guess I'm a widgets guy....
was just hoping for a mod or two..... wish i could reboot into recovery without having to use a 3rd party app. Would be nice to access a more featureful quick-menu via the notification pulldown menu.
I've been hearing a lot of positive feedback on Nil's business sense. Might give it a go.
Thanks!!!

Absolutely not. Its a vital part of the framework. Just install Launcher Pro over it, and when you hit the Home button, select it as the default launcher.

Thanks mate, perfect, will give it a go
Would doing this mod essentially make the phone faster?
Edit: just tried it and didn't really make much of a difference in speed for me. It wasn't noticeable atleast. It seems to just remove sense as a launcher but everything sense is still intact. If you want comeplete senseless your best bet is any asop rom like miui or cm7 alpha.
Removing Sense is highly inadvisable. And a launcher is pretty much just a skin, so sense will still run. Not 100% about this, but uninstalling sense MAY mess with your ability to recover back to it should you choose to unroot. Definitely take the advice above, and try flashing an aosp ROM. They are much quicker anyway
Thanks for your advise guys, unfortunately I am gsm, so as far as I know, there is no aosp ROM available yet, ill just stick with it for now until. IM just used to cyanogenmod with other devices, IM sure our day will come for the gsm guys! Just find sense, abit bulky, and sluggish at times. Also everything that sense provides can be found in apps, on the market (beautiful widgets, widget locker......) cheers

this is untrue. you cannot remove sense totally, however, you can remove many many many of the components associated with it without much problem at all. this also does not affect returning to stock in any way whatsoever.

This also has the issue where you have to unlock to answer a call. I guess if it were a tablet but being it's a phone that would annoy me having to do that every time get a call.
I Remember seeing a Thread with a zip Called DeSensify or something like that, Look for that it May Help?
Is it possible to do? I've gotten sense 4 multitasking on my nexus s so i was hoping it might be possible to get stock ics multitasking on my evo. I use multitasking a lot (even though its got its issues) but i prefer to see them in a list rather than swipe through each one.
people love to ***** about simple stuff lol
if you hate it so much return it
or wait for a AOSP rom like CM 9 or AOKP
dude, chill out. if youre gonna post such a negative response, why take out the time to post at all. smh. i love the phone.
I was wondering the same too. Sense 4 implementation looks more impressive and flashy for showing off to your friends but the stock ics implementation is much more usable.
The way you got the sense task switcher on another device, did it involve changing the framework?

hmm im not sure. an awesome developer over at the nexus s 4g thread made the mod. just flashed the zip and i was using sense 4 multitask. like you said, its cool to show off, but everyday use, i prefer stock (even though i enjoy most of sense)
It involves modification of the ROM's SystemUI. On the Nexus S, it was a matter of modifying the source code. On Sense 4, you're going to have to decompile and play with smali.

The charmeleon rom from the dev forum apparently has the option to change the multitasking, as well as the lockscreen, back to AOSP style. I'm testing it out right now and both tweaks are good to go. The only thing that is different from my modded ViperROM is that recent apps isn't mapped to menu anymore as joelz made some changes and that became non-functional for now.

Which option is the multitasking option?
I'm shocked that HTC hasn't made an attempt to fix this screw up. Regardless if they did it on purpose. Ok great, got it. But that was a bad idea and should be fixed. The multitasking is so annoying. I'll find myself filling out a form, then switch apps, then try to go back to the form and it reloads the page and kills everything I've filled out. AAAAHHHHH!!! Same with like copying and pasting a password from one app to another... I tried to ignore the hype about this issue while we waiting to receive our phones, but in the end, it really does get in the way. Can't wait for a vanilla android ROM.
Also, from what I've heard, there's not a single person on the planet that's actually happy about this. So why the heck isn't HTC changing it to appease everyone? Noone wants your stupid multitasking feature HTC! Shame on you.
EDIT: It is a sick phone though!

That's just a ui change, it doesn't change the way multitasking actually works.
In order to fix multi-tasking, you have to adjust the memory values which Viper's ROM does. Then it works fine no matter which multi-task UI you use...

I have only every seen a handful of hybrid roms and they are difficult to maintain from my experience with them, the closest you will get is if someone can import the libs and somehow get it working that way but things like image sense are proprietary and it takes a lot of work to reverse stuff like that. Try one of the bloat removing scripts, I don't remember the name but one removes rosie and replaces it with a ics/jb based launcher so you aren't just running a launcher on top of rosie
If you install the new Viper 2.0 ROM you can choose to install it "Senseless" which gives largely the look of CM10, but you'll still have the Sense Camera

RacerOfAll has a sick AOSP theme because he hates Sense but wants to keep using Sense features like the camera.
His Viper4G 1.0 theme is awesome, but now Viper is on 2.0 and the theme hasn't been updated, yet, so for the now I've manually pulled some of his apk's from the theme, manually replaced other apk's with AOSP versions and am using an HTC ICS skin and a 3rd party ICS launcher.
Basically, there's lots of stuff you can do to Sense ROMS to make them appear near-identical to AOSP while keeping Sense under the hood.

I recommend Viper4G ROM from the Original Android Development forum. It comes with an awesome tweaks app that will let you customize the icons in your status bar to AOSP style. If you flash a different ROM I'll help you get it as AOSP as possible but you'd be on your own for the status bar

I really don't like sense, and I was hoping to just be able to replace the homescreen, but apex and nova are pretty much unusable. Thanks for any and all help!
I'm not really sure what the problem is but one thing that helped me a fair amount is flashing the Adreno ICS drivers through recovery, smoothed things up somewhat. But even after doing that there is still some choppines to the launchers and I'm not sure why.

Apex user here..smooth as butter, especially with the animations sped up. Like any launcher, it does need to work itself into your memory to smooth out its performance, so initial performance after boot tends to be slightly choppy and then my lag goes away after some usage.

a lot of the times, the sense UI is still running behind the third party launcher. Best thing to do is when you find a ui you like. delete rosie.apk. downside you will loose the sense widgets and lockscreen. if you go this route, it be best to try an AOSP rom.

ok so to unlock you go to http://htcdev.com/ and look for the rezound unlock.
they have a complete guide on how to do it with pictures.
after that is done you will need to load a custom recovery, amon ra 3.15 is great.
after that you just flash a rom of your choice.

Once you unlock and load up a custom recovery (amon ra), you can go one of two ways: root the stock rom manually. Or the recommended method: install a ROM with root already installed.
There are some stock ROMs with root, or if you're going for performance, you'll want to find a good custom rom. Check out the development forum for one you might like to try. You'll want to S-Off, it's not required but it will make rom flashing significantly less complicated. (it seems intimidating, but it's actually pretty easy.)

Stock ICS Rom - Rooted 4.0.3 Sense 3.6
S-ON
I'm looking for a new ROM for my phone, because the Stock ROM runs kind of slow. I've tried using Liquid Cool 2.9, but I had problems with reboots. I also could not change the default keyboard to the standard T9/Phone layout that Sense 3.6 has.
I'm having trouble finding a good Sense ROM to try out that might run much better than the Stock ROM. I'm requesting Sense in the hopes that it will have the T9/Standard phone keypad layout as an option.
I use EclipticRez v9 with the latest Lunar kernel. It is by Hawknest in the Android Development section. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1962230 The ROM is linked off-site and the latest kernel package for it by Snuzzo is near the end of the thread currently. This has been a very snappy ROM/kernel combo for me. It does have the keyboard/phone/compact layout options on the HTC stock keyboard.
Sundream's Sense 4.1/4.5/5 hybrid ROM has a lot of promise too, but have yet to give it a go. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2419155
I would recommend to also consider looking harder for an aftermarket keyboard that has the layout you prefer and add that onto a Jelly Bean ROM if any of those work well for you.

Check PM if a Google search didn't do it for you.
Yes, Camera works well with more features than stock. Camcorder too. The only warning with those is *not* to attempt to take pics during video recording(keeps recording, but freezes display until exiting app), and avoid using burst shots on camera by holding button for shutter (sometimes works, sometimes crashes. No harm in trying on non-vital shots.) These are not features in stock camera, so nothing *lost* here feature-wise. Just don't have the extra processing chip newer HTC phones have dedicated for image processing.
Beats Audio is universal on apps on headset plugin, just like Sense 4 and up. Works fine and better than 3.6.
But it does have the phone compact keyboard? I would love a jb ROM if it had beats and could find the phone keyboard layout

EclipticRez has that layout. Uncertain which JB ROMs if any have that built in; may wish to find one you like first then ask about it for that particular ROM - or just try it. Try out Play Store keyboards as well. Still searching for one suitable here.

Hawknest's Ecliptic Rez was updated in May of this year to v.9. and Snuzzo

This sure is a daily user, no hiccups anywhere.
Great on battery with Funky Kernel.
I've flashed most all the custom roms trying new stuff, but keep coming back to ERez.
Another Vote for Ecliptic V9
I'm 99% sure I'd be done with my Rezound if it weren't for this ROM. Definitely a daily driver.
