I can't seem to find a thread here with my exact concern and if there is I apologize..
Sometimes if I connect the charger overnight and try to wake-up the phone it is unresponsive. Also, when this happens the charge light will stay on even with the cable unplugged as if its still charging. Sometimes if I wait long enough the lock screen will slowly appear and then it works, other times I'll have to pull the battery.. This can also happen if the phone is just sitting for 1-2 hours without me using it but mostly with the charger overnight.
Anyone else having these issues? Just a little more info, I am using the 2750 Extended battery which is the only one I've used from day one. The original battery has never been used in this phone. Could this be a battery issue? It has done this before and after the last OTA update...
Bone stock, no root.
Hmmmmm....that's odd

This happened to me as well for a while. I ended up having to reboot the phone which seemed to help for a bit. I always figured it was something lagging in the sense ui. If you end up with a solid answer, Id like to know as well.
Hmm , never had that happen or read any threads regarding it. Might have a bad phone if it's within the warranty get a new one.

This happened to me once but my phone was super hot when it happened..it eventually led me to factory resetting my phone and I haven't had it since.
I think I'm gonna try using the battery that came with the phone for awhile to look for a change. I'd rather warranty the extended battery than the phone.. If that doesn't work I'll factory reset it.
This is exactly why I haven't rooted yet, gotta get the perfect unit first while I'm still under warranty.

What cable were you using to charge it with?
I've had stuff like this happen with a few cheap cables, and occasionally with others. I've been told it is from well used cables breaking down on the inside or without good enough insulation.
Try a fresh or rarely used cable, after a fresh reboot. I ended up throwing a couple of old cables away and didn't have this problem again or anything similar until lately with a retractable cable I use.
Sent from my HTC Rezound using Tapatalk. Forgive autocorrect.
I have used both the cable and adapter from this phone and the one I had for my old Incredible. Doesn't seem to matter and the Rezound cable is obviously pretty new. That's why I'm hoping it's a battery issue. I'll keep you guys posted...

Mine used to do that, it would also be somewhat unresponsive most noticable when doing the unlock pattern, it wouldn't make it all the way through the pattern like it thought I was lifting my finger, it did only do this when it was on the charger too. Then it just stopped doing it, I don't remember if it was when I rooted or if I changed chargers or what. Are you using the charger and cable that came with the phone? I may have been using my standalone battery chargers USB plug to charge when it was doing that. Has been about that long since it did it.
I use the charger and cable that came with the phone at work and my old Incredible charger and cable at home. Problem happens with both.
So it is not the extended battery. I installed the stock battery last night and it locked up again. Next stop, factory reset.

yup,. still doing it..
In case anyone happens upon this thread with the same concern.... A factory reset did correct the problem.. And now I can safely root!!
Curious, when I get a new device one of the first things I do is do a factory reset.
It has been the fix for a number of devices in the past that I just do it automatically now.
Verizon will still exchange your device regardless of root/unlock. As long as it's a manufacterer issue, and not a result of you blowing up your phone from oc, or installing custom software and bricking it.
Alright so my Vibrant won't charge. I JUST recovered my phone from a brick, (I was having issues with the battery life on Slim Roms 4.0 compared to 3.9--in the middle of flashing back I accidently wiped my internal memory. As I was recovering it using Odin, my fat cat jumped on my bed and caught on my phone cord bricking it.) Flashed using Heimdall and was able to get my phone into working order.
Now, I placed Slim Roms 4.0 back on my phone initially after the unbricking to have something working on it, even though the battery life less than impressed me.
So I charged it like normal yesterday, got it to 100% and was fine and dandy with it working. (Still sucking up battery life like a vampire in a fat camp.)
So the update 4.1 went live yesterday, I flashed it immediately to that. The battery life was amazing! So I do the normal thing when I flash to a new ROM. Let it die completely before charging it completely. It's now dead and will not charge.
Symptoms;
I plugged in my normal cable for work (a cheap cable I purchased off of Ebay.) And up comes the round loading symbol. Followed by a darkening of the screen, followed by nothing.
One thing to note, is while it has it's loading circle on, the bottom buttons light up when I touch them.
My Steps;
-I attempted different USB ports since I charge through my work computer. No luck.
-I "borrowed" my co-workers USB cord and USB to wall plug. Attempted the new cable in the computer first. No luck.
-Plugged the borrowed USB into the wall charger. Same thing happens.
-Used my own cheapy cable in wall charger. Same thing.
-Took co-workers complete set and plugged it in in a different room. Nothing.
-Took out my battery, plugged in USB, placed battery back in. Nothing.
-Hold down the Vibrant buttons to get into Bootloader, it resets the loading circle and nothing more.
So now I'm sitting here wondering what to do. I do not have rubbing alcohol readily available, however since it charged to 100% yesterday I do not believe that is the issue, but I'd be willing to try if I had access.
Something you should know, I am using a Samsung Epic 4G battery in my phone.
-For those who might judge saying it is dumb, I have gotten 54 hours out of that battery on one ROM before, that is with texting, talking on the phone and installing apps. I'm fond of this thing, however I have my stock battery at home still.-
Any suggestions you guys have would be appreciated. I have tried things that I found on this forum and basic tech support to no avail. (I am at work so the things I can use are fairly limited. However cords are of no shortage.)
Alright, I unplugged my phone from being plugged into the wall charger for an hour and 3 minutes later it decides to turn itself on.. Not sure what's going on but I'm not going to complain.
So my question now is, can anyone explain this or help prevent this in the future?
From what I've heard draining a battery until it dies can damage it. But, I'm not an expert on that. It's possible that the battery needed more time to recover from the drain.

I had something similar happen when running lithium volt ROM. My battery completely died and the phone cut off (obviously.) I plugged it in the charger and it immediately tried to boot the phone up but it was bootlooping at the startup screen. I let it sit there for 20 minutes or so thinking maybe it is charging but as soon as i unplug the charger the phone cut off. Luckily I have an extra battery, popped it in, flashed a new ROM thinking that was the problem, turns out it was something to do with the ROM(maybe it needed a certain amount of battery power to boot up). My completely dead battery worked on the cm7 ROM I flashed, plugged in the charger and it booted up normally and started charging.

Oh so it could be ROM related? :/ That makes sense considering I just installed a brand new ROM. Thank you!

Yea it could be ROM related but it also could be a number of other things. Hopefully flashing a new ROM will fix the issue.

Thank you. I might just have to downgrade back to 3.9. It's almost a shame. xD
I'm going to test my old battery in this ROM just to make sure before I downgrade.
You need to use your Samsung usb charger, and wall adapter only. These two are the only ones that will actually work. I had this same problem and realized it was because I wasn't using the Samsung stuff. Even when pugging into the computer, use the Samsung USB cabe only. As for the battery your using... I wouldn't recommend it, no matter the fantastic battery life you must be getting.

Daw it's a fellow Samsung battery.
Thank you about the cable, I need to purchase another one anyways, mine at home seems to not be connecting very well. :/
ROM. some roms do that. it will not let you power up while charging if the battery is very low. you will get the circle and the battery symbol after. sometimes you still cant unless you pull the battery. happened to me many times
Hello.
Recently I noticed that when I plug my phone in and let it sit and charge for the night my phone disconnects from the network and I lose all my service. This only happens when I charge it and it happens when the screen stays off for a couple of mins. Usually when I turn the screen on it will connect back. I'm wondering why it's doing this. I'm on viper dna and I use the oem charging cable and adapter provided with the phone by HTC. I running viper rom 1.3.3 the newest version if that matters.
If the screen stays on I don't lose service. For example right now it's plugged in and I still have service because I haven't shut the screen off for a couple of minutes.
Any help is appreciated thanks.

So I think I have fixed the problem. I switched to another charger and now it seems to have stopped the issue. So I switched back to the same as adapter and used a different data cable and now it's not doing it. So I'm thinking that the data cable is defective and I have already had that replaced once. If that's possible I'm not sure how a data cable can cause an issue like that but that's what appears to have been causing the problem.

As of last night, whenever I try to connect my phone to either my outlet charger, my xbox, my computer...anything, it never even charges. The icon on the screen still says, "Connect your charger" even if it's connected. The sound doesn't even come on, and the battery icon doesn't move when it's connected (obviously, because it's not charging lol). But the only way I can use my phone is by charging my battery first. (Luckily I had a spare battery that I had already charged) and now I'm looking to buy a battery charger so I can switch battery's whenever I want. It'll be a pain in the a**, so there must be a way to fix it. Sometimes when I disconnect my charger, the icon pops up saying, "USB Connected". I've tried 4 different chargers also, and still no luck. I still haven't bought my warranty so I don't know if I can still do that and exchange it.
Any suggestions? I already tried different battery's, removing the battery for a couple of minutes, charging the phone while it's off (it seems to work but the battery icon goes from 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and to full, then back to empty, and it does it again, but it freezes and it takes awhile and then finally it does it again, but it doesn't really charge.)
My phone IS rooted, and I have ShoStock3 with Clockwork Mod. I'm thinking of reverting back to my Clockwork Backup from March but I don't think that'll work. I don't want to loose anything from my Internal Storage that I may have stored.
Please help

Is there any way I could fix it? And is there anyway I could clean it if it's dirty?
By the way, what's that charging port USB Dock Connector for? I've never seen them before so I dont know what they're for or how to use it.
Edit: Nevermind, I did my research and found out what it's for lol. I don't think I'll want to go that route, I hate taking apart computer's or phones because I'm not good at following instructions and I sometimes loose the parts lol.
This has happened to me three times. It's the charging module. You have to get it repaired I'm sad to say.

These phones are garbage, mine has fried twice now, and now its doing this exact same thing, i hate this phone and i hate straight talk, time to go to a contract and get a real phone
I read loads of similar issues, but mine is a little different:
I heavily used my stock-rom, unrooted phone today, recorded long videos in Full HD, when I got back home, I had 18% battery, plugged it into my computer's USB to get the videos (unaware of the issue of insufficient current on USB ports) and windows did not recognize it.
I then unplugged it planning to plug it into the wall socket, and when I woke the phone, it died on my arms
A little annoyed, I plugged it into the wall socket, and got the slow, orange blinking LED, and was not able to turn the phone on. After 30 minutes, the LED stabilized and it seemed to be charging (while off), so I left it there for another 20 minutes.
When I tried to turn the phone on, it worked, normally, but showed 2% battery life remaining. I had Wi-Fi on, but normally it wouldn't be an issue, so I left it charging for another 20 minutes.
I then woke the device and it showed 1% battery left! While plugged in! I tried to wake it and it died again.
I left it there for an hour or so, turned it back on, 6% battery left, I then turned Airplane Mode on so it would charge faster. After 10 minutes in Airplane Mode, it still shows 6%. It is not charging, I'm using the original HTC charger and cable.
It seems like it is not charging at all when on, and charging VERY slowly when off.
Tried a few tricks I read online, such as holding the volume up + volume down + power button for 2 minutes, but all I got was a steady flashing recovery screen, which says my battery is too low for flashing.
So the difference between mine and other posts is that my stock phone is turning on, but not charging anymore. If I turn Airplane Mode off, it drains itself even while plugged into the charger.
I'm really looking for a solution for this, instead of simply returning it (it's more than one year old, and I bought it overseas) or buying a new phone.
EDIT: Battery Widget app showed Charging Speed: n/a. Testing says battery health: good, 3666 mv, "charging" status
EDIT II: Tried running it in Recovery Mode, got a 3d exclamation point with a phone icon. Rebooted it normally, it turns back on, still not charging. This does not look good at all.
EDIT III: Read about Mr Hofs idea, of running custom recovery via the PC, but I can't get it to connect. Have newest version of Sync Manager yet windows says the "device malfunctioned" and could not be recognized.
EDIT IV: Done factory reset, no luck. Phone is still draining while plugged in. After 8 hours of charging while off, all I got was 40/50% I'm really desperate as the phone is virtually bricked and I need it for work. Willing to tip/donate to whoever finds solution, if that is ok according to forum rules (not sure)

I am, HTC charger, 5V, 1A
Back to the blinking led
I tried plugging the phone into the computer's USB port, got the red blinking led again. Held the volume down + power button while connected to the PC and it seemed to be constantly rebooting - windows popped up "device not recognized" several times and the power led started flashing much slowlier. Sometimes the lower leds would also flash. I held it like that for 2 minutes.
After a while the lower lads and the screen backlight lit up. I then realeased the buttons and quickly plugged it into the wall socket.
Now I have the fast blinking again. Awesome. I can't tell if I'm doing it right or brutally murdering my phone
You might just factory reset once your charged as .much as you can. I believe your problem. Is having to do with using or somehow got a bad current or USB port/cord etc. Anyway its software related and a hard reset doesn't help I'd RMA ..you go flashing mods to do yourself probably won't work especially if its hardware. Hope this helps. I say this as it happened to me. I used a lower amp wire charger socket. Same thing happened. After many hours of trying stuff. Factory reset never used bad or non OEM again. But in your case it may be just some IDD quirk. It happens bro. Hope you get it up and running. ..

Left it charging while off overnight, now I have 40% (!) battery. Any time I try flashing the default recovery, it'll show a red exclamation. The PC won't recognize it at all, even with downloaded drivers. And doind all that seem to have drained it to 30%.
Will try to get my important files and then factory reset it.

Charge to 100%
Try a different charger
Try flashing a different ROM/kernel
Try flashing RUU
Contact HTC
That's what I would do and the order I would do it in. Leave it alone until it is charged up to 100% before you do any of this though. Even if it takes a week. For all I know, charging to 100% will reset the charging circuit. I doubt it, but who knows.... Stranger things have happened.

Well this is awkward.
After many days, and since HTC is not present in Brazil anymore, I have no ways of contacting support, I gave up, bought an S4. After two days with my new phone, guess what? The HOX+ charged 100%, and it seems to be discharging normally. GOD DAMMIT.
So, ridethisbike, your suggestion worked, kudos for you and boo for me for not being patient and giving a shot.
Out to look for a buyer then. :silly:
