Hello, I have a lg optimus l9 p769 runninc ics 4.0.4 its V10g and i need rooting assistance. I have tried many rooting software but none are working. I tried superoneclick, z4root and many more. I recently tried Root With Restore by Bin4ry and i tried both Runme.bat and Runme_L9.bat when i run as an admin, and i press root, it gives me all errors, when i run normally, I get to the part where im supposed to press restore on my phone, and when i press it it says "restoring..." and three seconds it says restore complete and it doesnt reboot or anything.
Unfortunately I'm a super noob at this stuff, I dont need root to flash roms i need it for apps.
If im doing anything wrong please inform me, I read in places that you have to unlock bootloader and stuff but i dont know what or how.
It'd be great if someone could post some steps and guidance.
Thanks

Please read few threads before posting new thread. It is not practical for us to reply every newcomer to ask for reading.
I've already looked at all those forums. I'm not concerned with flashing ROMS. All I need is simple root access and I've tried all the methods yet to no avail. If I can get cwm recovery without root and then flash the root. Zip file it might work but I can't find any forum that explains it.

Also I got really close with root with restore. Only problem was that my phone says Restoring... Then 3 secs later it says restore complete. No reboot no nothing. Any thoughts?

On P769 V10G, You cannot use old rooting method from Bin4ry, it only for some model and version (most 10A, 10B, 10C). You can only root your phone with cmahendra guide. And there are no easy one-click method to rooting our phone for now.
Ok I'll try that method. Thanks

The commands written in your guide won't work. I ran as an administrator but it says 'C:\' isn't a internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

this doesn't always work, but try moving the files to a different drive and replace c:/ with whatever the drive letter is. otherwise, wait till we get jelly bean and use that one click method.
Alright ill try that. Btw do you know when jb will come out for our phone?

Temporary?!? I'm curious to know why you said that because I used SuperOneClick to root my phone and it hasn't reverted back. Is SuperOneClick not supposed to be able to root the Optimus V?
u should have used z4root it's even unrootable...!!!!
Hey dude. i tryed to follow the instructions on the forum. didnt work.

How long does it take? mine was stuck at the rooting device popup for more than 10 minutes......
edit: solved. Deleted the tmp folder (rmdir /data/local/tmp) and its contents and rebooted and superuser is there in the program list. heh

the only way to brick is if you abused Titianum backup and removed important stock apps. To know what is safe check here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046699
even if you did brick it this way, it should be fairly easy to recover.
First there was play, then there was root
Worked like a charm, took about 10 min. though

Have any of you guys done a OTA after rooting your device with gingerbreak? If yes how did it go? I have an update waiting, but I'm a bit worried it will 'brick' my play and I don't want go through all that flashing work for an update

As mentioned in other thread please un sticky the "Boot Loader Unlock root method" and make this as sticky.
As many users are unlocking bootloader just for the sake of root
Saw this, wonder if it's included in a new OTA update:

Yep your right about that I just did and now trackid dont work no more oh well still greatful for all the work that went into getting root access.
Hello, I have an Xperia U locked to Fido and wanted to root it to delete apps I don't use in hopes of speeding it up.
I found two procedures on 'noob-proof' rooting:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933985
http://tutorialfor-android.blogspot.ca/2012/12/easy-tutorial-root-sony-xperia-u-on-ics.html
I followed both of them. With Davis' procedure, the phone did prompt me to Restore the Rootme backup, and I did, but... it said 'could not restore'. His batch file finished by rebooting the phone and trying to copy a couple files which it couldn't.
With the Flashtool method, I installed version 0.9.8.0, even tho' 0.9.10.0 is out, because the latter install package would not run on my Win7 64 bit OS, whereas the former would. I followed the instructions but as you can see from the attachment, root was not achieved, I tried twice.
Any help? At least my phone looks and acts the same with these two attempts failing. I'd be lost if I screwed something up. Thanks.

No, I never got the app showing up, as in both of these trys the batch file encountered errors as I mentioned and I never achieved root as far as I know. The phone looks exactly the same. What is the binary root method? I am not a developer and quite the newbie.

just follow the instruction there......
Thanks Christe00. I tried again with the new RunMe batch from the new location you just posted.
Again, when I go to Restore the file (fa01... whatever it is)... my phone reports "could not restore".
Is there anything I can do to make this restore work? I take it the restore of the backup pushed to the phone is key to achieving root?
P.S. I followed the instructions carefully as detailed in the video. I opened a command window as administrator, I checked that the phone ran properly with USB debugging enabled, I made sure Unknown Sources was connected, I typed adb devices and saw my device... I have tried this several times... my phone always says, "cannot restore.... whatever.... " and doesn't restore the backup, and then the phone reboots, there's no SuperUser icon in my App Drawer and it's over.
Appreciate any more help here.

No I did not. Can I just flash that using the Flashtool with my phone being both Locked and Unrooted?
No I didn't see that there was a requirement for that... guess I didn't look closely. Is there another thread that you recommend I read.

So I rooted my phone with a locked bootloader using this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173465 and went ahead and installed CWM recovery, and then tried to flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428306
After my phone rebooted, I keep on getting this LG Security Error and cannot boot into the phone. I've tried to use the fastboot method to try and flash a new kdz, however I keep on getting stuck at the waiting for device part.. would appreciate it if anyone could help me to just restore my phone to factory settings?

Sounds like you made a serious error and didn't do any research before proceeding. Did you install the LG drivers prior to doing anything with the phone? If not, you have just bricked your device. L9RecoveryInstaller.apk is the ONLY way at the moment to successfully install CWM on the P769 if the bootloader is locked. I don't have all the answers myself as I'm fairly new to this device, P769, myself. There may be someone here with a little more insight as to how to fix your issue, but if you didn't install LGs drivers beforehand, I'd say your device is bricked. Sorry.
You'll need to use fastboot to flash ICS u and x. Then go into upgrade mode by holding volume up and plugging the phone to the computer. Upgrade mode should pop up and you're ready to flash any kdz using the offline flash method.

L9 P769 is a much different creature than the other P76X variants. CWM CANNOT be installed on the recovery partition unless the bootloader is unlocked. There are very few people here who have managed to unlock the bootloader on this device ( P769 ). Any attempt to modify the bootloader, boot partition, or recovery ends in "LG Security Error". As per my previous post, the only way to get CWM on this device with a locked bootloader is with the L9RecoveryInstaller.apk.

Do you have busybox installed and or do you have multiple copies of busybox installed?
If you don't have busybox, install it from the Play Store. Make sure it installs to /system/xbin.
If you have multiple copies, which I did when I had this error, use the busybox installer to uninstall all copies of busybox and then use the installer to reinstall busybox to /system/xbin.
You may need to run L9RecoveryInstaller again. It will say there is a recovery installed just reinstall anyway.
Reboot and try again.

Cm11 is available, yes some people can unlock the bootloader. Theres a few threads about removing tmobile bloatware, along with solutions to the other questions I answered. Simply search your question and you'll find a solution. THEN if you can't find the solution by searching make a thread to ask about it. Goodluck if you try unlocking the bootloader, its quite a journey!! If you can't unlock it or the process scares you out of trying search Kuma ROM. Goodluck!

Hi, I'm in a similar boat as the OP, successfully rooted the device but didn't realise I needed an unlocked bootloader to flash a recovery. Now I get Security Error.
Now, I keep seeing "ICS x and u" on this forum, and have no idea what it is. Yet people keep saying it like it's obvious.
Is this it? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44144663
If so, obviously I can't follow the steps because my phone won't boot up past the splash screen. And said phone isn't recognized by ADB at the moment, because I can only figure out how to boot it into S/W update mode.
Currently I can't even use the L9RecoveryInstaller.apk, because, again, can't boot up. Help?

I (cannot) get the phone in emergency mode to flash with odin. The recovery just boot loops everytime. Everytime I try using a recovery or rooting method I get errors from every app I try using... the phone doesnt have spritebud.. I have been reading and trying to root and flash cwm recovery and a 4.3 rom for days and im getting quite frustrated. I know this is a older phone. Im not a noob when it comes to flashing or rooting. If someone could please help me out I would be very thankful. As im trying to do this for a friend to save them from buying a new phone and just upgrading this one because its lile brandnew.
Errors: spritebud, Null.
This phone is not like most. You have to unlock the bootloader and it's not easy. Use cydia impactor to root. Another thing this phone doesn't use Odin. It uses some crappy lg software that can only be ran on windows.
Your friend is probably better just getting a new phone. To much to learn & know for the casual user.
