Hi. I have 2 australian galaxy s3. First one is on 4.1.2 TDUELL2 and the second one is on 4.0.4 TDUBLH1. I want to root both of them. The first one after getting updated to 4.1.2 wifi stopped working but i found a fix installing the wifi folder from 4.1.1 version. To that I need root though. So any help on how am I gonna root them both? Cause I couldn't sort it out my self.

What model number are the phones I9300 / I9305?
they are i9300t
I managed to root both of them. I know have a major problem. 1 of them had a problem with wifi. It couldnt connect. I read about a solution by copying the wifi folder from version 4.1.1. Tried that. It worked for once but after reboot it stopped. And now I can't even turn on the wifi. It gets stuck on Turning on... Do i have to reflash the rom again and if so how will i do that? It was stock rom on stock kernel. Only rooted. gt i9300t moder and build DUELL2.
Also can i flash a rom with different build over that? For example XXEMC2 that i have on my Greek galaxy s3?
I9300T rooting is the same as I9300 rooting, follow the guides of CF-Root 6.4 or CF-Autoroot. (I got a T model myself)
You can flash any I9300 rom also on the T model, therefore root is not 100% necessary. Full wipes are recommended for flashing different versions though.

just saw it .
For wifi, try a stock ROM (flash it new incl. wipes etc.), or try a different kernel, whereas the stock kernel should always work.

you can find (unrooted) stock roms for instance on sammobile.com or (rooted) stock roms here on XDA in the General section.
Easiest way to flash them is via Mobile Odin (gives you the option to keep root) or Odin (you will loose root but you can flash CF afterwards manually).
And yes you can flash any build that is made for the I9300/I9300T.
The only difference between both models is the frequency of the baseband (the T model is more optimized for 850mhz) whereas you even can use modems of the I9300 on the I9300T.

What do you mean by modems? Soz if I sound noob but I am new to Galasy s3. My previous android was ideos x5 and i had a miui rom on it.
The phone will be used in greece. Do you suggest me flashing the XXEMC2 rom that i have on my Greek S3 atm? Is there any chance of bricking it if i flash that rom on it?

There is a difference between the ROM's firmware (basically your OS, e.g. XXEMC2) and the modem (basically the part which gives you the connection to the next mobile tower and is managing the frequencies, e.g. DUELL2).
It does not matter that much what ROM firmware you use as they are nearly identical in each country (here and there dif. apps due to providers) but more that you use a modem that delivers in the country you are in. Hence, I would first try the modems of your region (you can find a list of all modems in the General section's modem collection).
Regarding the risk of bricking: there is always a risk, no one can guarantee you anything , whereas if you follow the guides you should be fine.

Ok. So the CSC numbers that are different on lets say the DUELL2 and the XXEMC2 are not something to bother me right? I just download the XXEMC2 rom and flash it on the DUELL2 S3 and then I just will root it. right? Will the phone become i9300 after that procedure? or stay i9300t? So I know which file i should use to root it.
Soz for too many questions but the phone is not mine and I need to be sure for the procedure.

The firmware code (XXEMC2) should not be of concern.
The modem code (DUELL2) should be of concern IF you experience bad performance in the region you are. If so, flash a different modem and try it.
The phone will be an I9300T whereas in the menus it might tell you I9300, anyway there is no difference in the files to use.
For rooting, follow the guide, you can use CF-Root 6.4 (if you want a custom recovery) or CF-Autoroot (if you want to use stock recovery).

Thanks a lot mate. This helped a lot. I decided to go with the 4.1.1 version of its current region. Later if we see that it doesnt perform well here in greece we will flash the xxemc2 rom.

Hi All,
I bought a used galaxy S2 I9100 yesterday, new to android.I have been a iphone user for 4 years and pretty aware of jailbreaking, unlocking installing custom firmwares. the terminology here in Android world is different though.
Have searched and read through different guides on the forum but still got some questions.
Model GT i900 LKAH3G
PDA i9100XWKE1
CSC I9100H3GKD4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] # 2
Build Number GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
Looks like it was on Three network but it is unlocked mobile as i can use my airtel sim on the phone.
I dont want the Three network related stuff on the phone so i need to debrand the phone -- how to do it? there is guide on XDA forum but it talks primarily for O2 phones or might be i did not read it correctly. (there are also some options like the network mode which are disabled on this ROM )
Once debranding is done should i be ok to use any ROM or kernel?
Which would be best ROM to be installed and will it work for me in India.
Can i install the custom ROM and would i be able to install apps from the android Market.
If these have already been answered , can you please provide the link for that thread.
Thank You
I'd advice you to try the new ics roms, you can find the instructions inside the various rom threads, flashing these roms will get rid of the three junk as well as update your phone to the latest android os a.k.a ICS ..........
there is no such thing as a best rom for a specific country, but you can try different modems to find the one that gives you the best network and battery, you can find your modem under the baseband in about phone....
google for more info
happy flashing and welcome to Android we luf you here...........
Learn how to use Odin
Download stock gb from from checkfus or sammobile.
Flash using Odin, you will be unbranded.
After that root using cfroot, now learn how to use cfroot.
Now you can flash custom roms.

Hi KJplasma &atifsh
Thank you for the details.
can i install the below listed indian stock firmware using odin
PDA :I9100XWKE8 CSC:I9100ODDKE2
or do i need to install the firmware from UK
PDA :I9100XXKF2 CSC:MULTIOXAKF2
do i need to change the csc if i install the UK version?
Thanks
forget about csc.
if you have i9100 you can flash any region ROM and use in any country.
if you want Gb than go for la2 italy rom , iv used that and last time i check that was the fastest stock rom for GB
you can also flash ICS rom like uk lp7 too, just stay away from lp9 roms at the moment.
ad dont forget to wipe using the dialpad code *2767*3855#. [will wipe all data stored]

My friend dont go for LPJ that is unofficial beta release,
go for anything above LPQ on the sammobile firmware list ...
or pick anyone from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487.
Thank you Zac and Atif.
I have tried to do a factory rest from the phone's privacy menu but even after everything is done, istill see some files in the gallery.
i tried the code *2767*3855# everything goes fine but i see the message "cant access to system\csc\h3g\system\" and then the phone strats as normal.
can i flash it to the OS even if i am getting this message using odin or do i need to
do something before i flash?
factory reset will not delete your user stored data on the SD card...that can be manually deleted...if you want
you can flash the OS from ODIN
thanks for the responses.
I have upgraded to I9100XWLP7_I9100XEULP, and its working fine. the only problem seems to be its heating a bit where the camera is located . will read more topics and see why this is happening.

Yes though the newer dxlp9 was much better, previous one had bunch of issues including sleep of death.
Also that ROM introduces the contact/dialer lag bug. Which some how got to Google account and now every time I sync contacts it get back.
I deleted all my contacts and synced again and it's all better, tried on dxlp9 and was working fine, than I switched to my regular cm9.

For a start, if you remember your last ROM that doesn't had heat issues, flash that modem. Doesn't matter if you use GB modem on ics.
I flashed the modem of my region xxki4 which is 2.3.5 jpkj2 and had no issues of heat in ics.

I have a Samsung I9300, I'm in the US, and and on T-Mobile, it has the stock ROM, but rooted with Chainfire's CF-Root 6.4. The S3 has downloaded the OTA Jellybean update, and I have postponed it for now. My question is, can I apply the update ? and then just re-root with CF-Root, or will the update fail?
Thanks
I wouldn't apply the ota as it can fail with any root applied incl cf root. You could update through kies and reapply cf root or flash the official firmware for your phone through Odin. If ya need a hand finding out which official firmware ya need do the following:-
Dial *#1234# into your keypad and post results.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
It shows:
AP: I9300UBBLG2
CP: I9300UBLG2
CSC: I9300UUBBLG2
I believe that firmware is Brazilian but using sammobile.com to check for brazilian versions I dont see a JB update for any of the brazilian carriers handsets or the unbranded version :/
If u have kies you could do the update through it, it updates the same as if u flash through odin and wont wipe anything. You could also use "checkfus" from playstore it should identify your phone and firmware version and allow u too download.
I had a similar problem, and I thought I could try to get Jelly Bean by flashing a custom Jelly Bean ROM. Now I want to go back to stock ROM (flashed custom ROM's performance is awful), so I downloaded the corresponding stock ROM from sammobile, but what I found was a very large (1,2Gb) tar.md5 file and a SS_Dl.dll file.
So the question; is it normal for it to be that big? and, how do I flash it with odin... which thing goes where? which pit should I use? do I put the 1,2Gb file in PDA? should I tick re-partition? bootloader?? Please, help
(Current ROM is DarkyROM III v6.0, and my android phone is a spanish yoigo i9300, so according to sammobile my stock is I9300XXBLFB_I9300YOGBLF1_YOG)

OK, a slight variation on the question:
S3 I9300 on T-mobile, stock ROM, rooted w/ CF 6.4. Can I use Mobile Odin Pro to flash the JB update that the phone has downloaded (update.zip sitting in /cache) checking everoot to keep root, and do the update this way, rather than using kies to update and the re-root?
And if so, what happens to the CWM recovery that is installed, does it get over written with stock recovery?
Thanks

Hi all,
I want to be sure here for obvious reasons, i had a rooted s3 with custom rom/firmware, which i then used triangle, went back to stock and unrooted. However the firmware i installed isnt what i wanted, i read that the firmware with xx in it was for uk use but it seems to be primarily for israil as it has jewish as its default language and a jewish calender installed as default. So i have now downloaded which i hope is a tmobile uk firmware 19300xxella_i9300t from sammy. will i need to root again then install this with odin then reset counter then unroot and will this download cover the rom and firmware as im never to sure the firmware (screen entered when holding volume up, power button and middle button is now official stock. but not sure if this will allow me to install the official?
is theis file 19300xxella_i9300t the rom or firmware im now confused
You dont have to root to flash stock rom. You might need to reset your S3 though..

Just download the stock rom that you want (e.g. from sammobile.com) and flash it via Odin. Afterwards do a factory reset and you should be good to go. No root required.
Follow the flashing via Odin section of the guide

Firmware means the full firmware and operating system and modem.
Rom is just a word used to describe a firmware file .
Stock rom stock firmware the same .

Hello
My friend bought GS3 months ago in Arabic country with ICS 4.0.4 installed. When I saw the box, I found that the GS3 is a grey market product. It has Region Lock label written in Russian language on the box and the ROM is pre-rooted CWM Custom ROM
Now, Kies dose not upgrade this version and he wishes to have Arabic stock ROM 4.3 if possible. What are the safest steps to do?
- If I download and flash Arabic stock ROM, will I loose modem connectivity?
- Do I need to backup and restore EFS data if I flash stock ROM?
- Do I need root to restore EFS data/modem driver after flashing STOCK ROM?
- Should I flash custom ROM instead of Stock ROM?
I want a safe way, I don't wish to cause network/EFS loss to the device?
I read a lot but came to no conclusion.. please help

Which JB version is save to flash and won't loose the IMEI?

Depends on the phone history on what will happen on upgrade to 4.3, sim lock may return or imei lost due to patched efs folder. No way to know until you get flash, so backup efs now.
4.1.2 EMG4 is when efs format changed, anything before this shouldn't cause too many issues.

That's what I am worried about. To loose IMEI or get the region lock back. The phone model is GT-I9300RWDEUR. Can I find stock rom for it with no region lock?
so confusing !!

What is the difference? Odin only flashes tar?
I need to find modem driver in tar format first?
Odin flashes tar
CWM and other custom recovery flashes zips .
Suggest you read the basic faqs and guides first .

I was using the S2 with Jelly Bean. I found the phone to heat up very quickly around the camera lens and top of the phone rather than when running on Ginger Bread. I then installed the Resurrection Remix Custom ROM v5.1.3 with KitKat 4.4.2.
But the heating problem is still there. Checking online I found out that the modem was the problem.I found the KH3 modem was the best for the Galaxy S2. I was wondering if installing the KH3 modem was appropriate on Custom ROM or can modems be installed only on Custom ROM???
If it can be installed can anyone guide me how ... BTW I am using the phone in India ...
Please reply the overheating problem is driving me nuts.
Attatched is a screenshot showing my phone information.
You question is a bit confused (because you haven't taken the time to learn 'the basics' like 95% of people who come here), but the answer is yes. Modems are interchangeable between Android versions on the S2 & not dependent on same; I.E you can flash a modem that was bundled with stock rom that was a different Android version to the one you're currently running (whether stock or custom, makes no difference).
As to how to flash a modem....C'mon....
This is absolute basics, you should know this stuff back to front inside out if you're flashing custom roms.
In other words, search.

Usually a modem file size should not exceed 10 MB. You can even flash the modem via cwm. On xda you can find links for such files.

That's not required. Just keep a flashable file of your current modem, just in case you want to revert. I mean, download it and keep it on your phone.
For India, ddls9 also works quite well. I have seen good results on xxls8 too.

I am not very sure about that. My guess is that it doesn't backup your modem with the rom backup.
