[Q] how do I enable the gps signal while in airplane mode - Motorola Droid RAZR

At one time I thought that when I was using WKYA DB R3D's rom that the GPS signal would stay on in airplane mod. I use this phone while backpacking and have Backcountry navigator installed. It would be great to be able to use this app in airplane mod. As of now the gps will not connect in airplane mod. Anyways if someone can shed some light on this I would appreciate the info.
Thank you Dan

Airplane mode will, it should, kill gps and data services, instead of using it, try just manually turning off cellular data and wifi. Keep location services on.

[REQ] Disable mobile network when wifi connected

I am looking for an app that automatically switches off the cellular radio when wifi is connected and switches it back on when wifi loses connection. I'm not talking about the APN data connection which already does that, I'm talking about the regular cell phone connection.
According to my lack of results searching through the forums, Market, and Google, such an app does not exist yet. Currently the best app I've found to do anything remotely like this is the Airplane Mode Wi-Fi app, which is a manual switch and a slightly cumbersome one at that, not nearly good enough for how often I go in and out of wifi.
The reason I ask for this is because I use Google Voice with SIP and a prepaid plan. I want to use SIP as much as possible to save my prepaid minutes for when I really need them. When wifi and cell are both connected with Sipdroid running and I receive a call, they both ring at the same time. To be sure I don't accidentally use prepaid, I usually reject the call and call back over SIP, which is slightly annoying for both me and the caller.
Might someone be willing to create this app? Or better yet, does it already exist and I just wasn't doing the right searches?
You can turn the phone radio off with code but you need to use non-public apis and probably extra permissions. For anyone interested, have a look at RadioInfo.java (Phone Info when selecting an activity with AnyCut).
I'll add the option to the Airplane Mode Wi-fi Tool.
It was simple, I'm testing it right now, then I'll update it in the market as soon as it works properly.
UPDATE: Done, go download "Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool" (free) from the market if you'd like to stay updated from there, otherwise install it from the attachment here.
It only enables airplane mode if it successfully connects to a Wi-fi network, if it disconnects, connection gets dropped, or wi-fi gets disabled from the settings or widget, the phone goes back to regular radio mode.
Make sure to check the Preferences and enable/disable it according to your preferences. It's disabled as default.
Enjoy!
Perfect! Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool has become one of my top favorite apps with this feature. Thanks!
cant' find it on the market
sorry: I needed to search for the translated name

It is, Market link -- Airplane Mode Wi-fi Tool
Also, you might be interested in this one, Market link - AutoAP
I found the application on the market, however it doesn't behave as expected. I have to manually switch to airplane mode, and then enable wifi.
What I would like is a single switch to enable wifi AND disable the cellular radio.
And then a single switch to switch back to cell radio with wifi off.
I will try autoAP, thanks
How hard is it on the battery if I always leave wi-fi on even when not used?
autoap seems just fine, I just have to disable wifi to automatically enable cell radio
thanks
However I think, from a marketing point of view, you should consider a better name. Auto AP sounds like Automatic Access Point to me.
Yeah, works fine on tablets without internal 3G. This provides a battery saver.

[Q] Another GPS question...

Hey guys,
Here's a quick rundown of my situation: I've had my GPS connector replaced per the instructions in the "Correct Hardware Fix" thread. I've been running tests using both the integrated gps test menu and the Chartcross gps test app.
For starters, I've found something quite curious about the Chartcross app. Despite the fact that I have "Use Wireless Networks" disabled in location & security settings, the Chartcross app does appear to use network assisted gps.
Chartcross Tests
Test 1: Place phone in airplane mode, restart, run test. Finds 3-5 sats, maybe connects, takes forever nevertheless. In other words, sucks.
Test 2: Re-enable wireless data. Restart. Run test again. Immediately sees 13 sats, connects to 7 fairly quickly (inside even). Again, this is despite having "Use wireless" unchecked.
My GPS is obviously working (and working well), so why the hell will it not connect while data is off? I'm totally stumped...any advice would be much appreciated.
P.S. I've tried Nero v5 (awesome, by the way) and stock 2.2. Pretty sure my phone is a July 2010 model, if that helps.
I had some slow connect issues with Nero v5 as well. I got mine resolved by flashing a newer (KA7) modem.

I'm getting awful gps with the ka7 modem. How was your gps before hardware fix?
Get a clue people, read the Vibrant advertisement. The Vibrant has GPS assist NOT GPS. That means without the Cellular connection just relying on the Sats for the connection, the GPS will be sucky and slow, but it will work without the Cell/wireless signal.
i am using KA7 and i am getting 11-14 in view and 5-7 lock, fast locate.
Without Cell signal i get 5-8 view and 3-5 lock takes 45sec-1min
But this could because of where i am and most likely why people have different performance of the GPS

Sorry man, I didn't realize the distinction.
So let me get this straight:
An assisted GPS uses some sort of wireless data regardless of whether or not the "Use Wireless Networks" box is checked in Android settings?

[Q] Turn off mobile data but leave wifi on?

This might be already posted (I can't find it), but is there a way to turn mobile data off? (And perhaps still leave wifi on?) I find background apps draining my data plan and I need to conserve as much as I can while I go on this vacation, and Wyoming doesn't need me to have status updates and other things.
I have background data and most services I can turn off from the settings but I don't see a way to turn off data without turning wifi off as well, which kind of misses how I want to use it.
Anyone know how to do this?
If you go into the settings and find "Data Manager" then hit "Data Delivery" and uncheck "Data Enabled" that'll do it.
Ahhh thanks!
Also you can enable flight mode then turn WiFi back on
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
But that kills calls. I want calls to be on all the time.
Grab Widgetsoid 2.x from the market.
You can make toggle widgets to turn your mobiledata on off, as well as wifi. It's the quickest, easiest way to do it.
APNdroid would be an easy way to achieve this, and it plays nice w apps like 3Gwatchdog.
Thanks. Ill use apn droid with juicedefender to maximize this beast.

[Q] Can I use GPS on airplane mode?

I am out of town for a little while and I don't want to incur the heavy cost of roaming. So, I am on airplane mode and have WiFi on. But I'd like to know if I can use GPS on airplane mode. I tried it but the GPS doesn't seem to pick up my location. It keeps saying, location temporarily unavailable.
So, can I use GPS on airplane mode?
Yes and no. GPS itself works fine in airplane mode. It's the app you're using that causes problems. I have a speedometer app that works just fine in airplane mode. However, I believe google maps and navigation require a working data connection. Without it, they won't work.

Do I need a data connection for Maps and Navigation? Wouldn't a WiFi connection do?
Yes, WiFi should work. But, WiFi won't work in airplane mode. You could shut down just data and use WiFi but where are you going to get the WiFi from on the road?
Starting with version 5 Google Maps sports offline caching so you can navigate with GPS with no WiFI in Airplane Mode. In other words a stand-alone GPS navigator.
There are other offline mapping/navigation apps available too.

No, I am on Airplane mode and my WiFi works flawlessly. Still, the damn Google Maps doesn't pick up my location when I turn GPS on. I am trying TomTom Navigator though.

In Google maps go to SETTINGS>LABS and turn on PRE-CACHE MAP AREA - Follow the instructions there.
Yes, GPS works fine in airplane mode. I had GPS Test going flying to Denver last week. Showed speed and altitude perfectly. Google Maps showed movement but of course couldn't load detailed tile data as I zoomed in.

Problem with Tasker and Airplane mode

So I've been trying to get Tasker to turn on airplane when there no service data and not connected to Wifi. You'd think it's be simple, but oh hell no.....
I've try many triggers var such as Cellsig matches less then 40% /Cellserv = no service along with not on mobile network and not conneced to wifi.
I've set up the profile to wait for 1 min then airplane mode then wait airplane mode off and many many other "no signal" type profiles with tasker I've found online, but I run in to nothing but problems.
Sometimes airplane mode would just come on the sec my radio cuts off well before the min wait and while still on wifi other times everything will trigger just right, but airplane mode will turn itself on then off in that very same sec. Best yet sometimes nothing will happen at all...
I've Googled many a tasker profiles to do this and I run in to these problems it gets REALLY REALLY annoying. I'm wondering it it's problem with the Droid X2 or there some weird profile setup I have to use since it's a CDMA phone a Cyangenmod 7 Beta 2 problem.
Please anything anyone could think of would be helpful thank you~
I've never used Tasker. I use Llama - Location Profiles. If Tasker isnt doing it for you, try Llama and see if it works.

Does it fig out your location via GPS? I like Tasker because I have some profiles setup base on what cell towers I'm near.

Yes, it connects to cell towers and everything and you can set which cell towers represent which location (home, work, etc.). It used to have an option to set locations on a map but that feature seemed to have only worked for me on GB.
