[Q] updating firmware using sd card [solved]

I`m having a problem, when I try to explore the files in my internal sd card, the windows explorer crashes. Both mtp or usb debugging mode does not work.
Odin does not work as well to
Despite this issues my GS2 is working good. But I cant transfer Music or photos using USB
OK, that is the problem, but my question is if I can use a (one file package) that I downloaded here (that the tutorial said to flash it with ODIN) and use this file to update my ROM using recovery mode > update from SD card...
thank you
The question was if I can use a ODIN file to update from sd card using recovery mode > the answer is NO
I had a problem that my pc was not recognizing my phone, that way i couldn`t use ODIN to flash a firmware I wanned.
the solution is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1382838
Resuming what I did:
unnistall kies and usb samsung drivers
checked usb debbuging mode ON
turn off cel
put cell in download mode and conect usb cable in my notebook
and reinstall kies with the usb cabble plugged IN, and than, windows recognized it, installed drivers, and I flashed the rom I wanned.
No Odin packages cannot be flashed from recovery .
Post reads as if you have no USB drivers installed from KIES ..
Check MOBILE ODIN on the market to flash from SD card .
How are you going to put a file on the SD card without USB .
jje
can you mount USB storage in recovery? If so transfer the odin file using recovery then use mobile odin to flash it.
Ricey
i can tranfer files using kies air,... wi-fi
thanks for the idea mobile odin, i think it will really help
i'll have to root my cel to use this... i`ve read a lot of options, which one is the best?
many thanks
Root + CWM .

Anyone having issues transferring files?

Anyone having any trouble putting music/movies onto their device? Also won't allow me to remove photos etc already on my device.
My pc recognises the device as mtp and I can access files etc but I go to transfer photos to my pc nothing happens.
When I try to put movies on it comes up with an error.
Only way I was able to do it was through Kies which I hate using cause it's a load of crap..
Initially I wondered if it was the custom rom i was using but I restored my previous stock rom BUALE6 and still the same.
Anybody got any ideas on this?

You can try putting your phone's external SDcard in mass-storage mode;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27282116&postcount=58
Are you trying to put files on the internal or external SD card?
It should work out-of-the-box with Windows7.
No issues like that. I did have some problems when using Omega 5.1 that have all been sorted by flashing Siyah 1.1. Don't know if that is worth a try? Omega also includes Kopfgeldjaeger's USB mass storage solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1711009 that might be of help. Are you using an external SD or internal?
Thanks guys... I was using my old reliable windows xp pc. Never failed me before nlw.
I want to stay on stock kernel for now and I don't have en external sd card so it's all on internal for now.
Maybe my pc has had it

This is weird. it works fine on my Win7 laptop but not on my Win xp pc. I've un installed drivers and reinstalled them. Even reinstalled kies. Still won't work.
Is this an incompatibility with win xp?

XP didnt work for me, all sorted once I used a PC with Windows 7
Seems as if the drivers dont support XP
Interesting.... Hmmmm.....

No usb storage mode for GS3 internal memory. Only MTP.

USB Mass Storage, or UMS, was replaced by Media TransferProtocol, or MTP for ICS & above.

thanks for the quick reply, i was referring to files i had copied over to the phone before i flashed the new rom which i cannot see any longer, together with all the folders and stuff. does this mean i have to copy the files i want to keep all into my computer and then manually transfer into the phone again?
Do you have samsung driver or kies installed on your computer?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
yep i do, i installed the drivers off the s3 toolkit, thats how i was able to copy content onto the phone in the first place
install kies driver and android sdk driver
that will solve the problem of my files not appearing inside the phone after its connected? my computer can recognise the phone and i can open it up and even tell how much free space there is, but the inside is totally empty, when i flash back to omega the files can be seen again. im just wondering if this is a jellybean peculiarity
Install kies if you haven't already.. If that doesn't work, restart the phone and then try.

Internal memory problem

Hey guys. First I wanna say that this is amazing forum, and that I learned a lot here. But I have a problem and I couldn't find a solution via search option. I rooted my s2 via Odin and siyah kernel. All worked like a charm. Then in cwm I wanted to backup my stock ROM. Since I don't have external sd card, I tried to backup to internal. It returned some error, can't remember exactly what it said. So I thought, the hell, I'll buy external then. BUT when it rebooted,I tried accessing gallery, and it said sd cars is being used as mass storage device? I tried to check memory in task manager, but out completely ignored my 14 free gigs. Said only 700 mb free system memory. Help please guys I have some really precious things on my internal sd card. edit:forgot to mention that in notifications I have one saying blank USB storage, and when I click it it offers to format it

it did not recognize the external sdcard. It would like you to format through the phone so it will be recognized properly.
Once you format it and it is recognized, you can transfer files to the external sdcard.
If you are worried about losing some files on the adcard, you can also copy them to your pc.
How can I copy them to PC? After root my phone cant connect via kies

It doesn't need to, if the drivers are installed it will automatically connect in mtp mode, else enable usb debugging in settings and connect as mass storage.
Using GT - I9100
I thank those who give helpful comments
I expect the same from others.

connect to computer with usb debugging activated and then go to the root menu of your computer.
you should be able to see the I900 as a seperate usb drive. You can copy and paste from the usb drive to your computer.
When I connect it either way, it goes installing device driver software, but fails. So neither mtp or debugging works

Got siyah 3.0.15. S2 v4.1.5

Try Uninstalling and reinstalling kies or try another computer with kies installed.
Also try using a usb otg cable and connect a flash drive or a external powered hdd, and copy via phone.
