I flashed up to 4.2.2 the newest 2,2 Liquidsmooth rom, didn't like it, so I wen't to flash back to 4.1 jellybeans build 13. I wiped everything, from, factory, cache/dalvik 3 times and then flashed. I loaded it up and it was buggy, so I wiped and reflashed again, and like the last time I have no signal and my phone no longer connects to my computer. Everytime I plug it in it says installing drivers but it will never connect. I get a message saying there is nothing on my computer to detect my phone even though it could 20 minutes ago. I have an odin stock file I wan't to flash but can't as odin won't recognize it. It makes a sound upon being plugged into my computer and shows up under device manager saying drivers are all up to date but I still get nothing. I can still use twrp though etc. What do I do?
Good luck dude I can't even root my new note because of this issue

I feel lucky that I rooted my phone as soon as i got it and everything went successful. Because like 3 days later my phone stops communicating with the computer...
Thankfully I have a micro sd card so i can do flashable zips... But if I ever have to Odin back to stock or use Odin for anything I'm screwed.
From what I've read it isn't a phone issue is a Windows issue? But I don't know if that's true because i have yet to find a fix...

When Odin wouldn't recognize my phone, I went into device manager (on windows 7) and then clicked update driver under usb on "android device" then I chose choose from list. There were 3 options and I tried the second one and as soon as it installed Odin recognized immediately.

Thanks! Simple, but it worked for me, too. Took about 2 seconds to find it and install it.
Windows did need to update a driver first on its own so that it would have something to update. Otherwise you may not get the Update driver option when you right click the driver in Device Manager.
Something like this:
1. Connect the phone in the mode (phone on, or phone in download mode) that isn't working
2. Start/Right click Computer/Properties/Device Manager
3. Right click on Android or Samsung drivers that appear
4. Choose Update Driver, Browse computer for drivers, Pick from a list on my computer
5. Click on the most promising looking drivers that come up until one works

I can't get Odin to recognize my galaxy note 2. Trying to reinstall stock rom. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the samsung drivers over and over. I have the verizon note 2. All I wanted to do was root and remove some of the bloatware that came with the phone. I followed directions exactly but have wound up with a brick. Someone please help. I tried to update the Samsung drivers through device manager but it says I have the latest drivers .

I have read and read....googled and youtube just about everything to get my note 3 AT&T rerooted! AT&T had an update on Friday 2-28-14 over the air. i noticed it was updating while i was at work. when it was done it removed my root by Kingo. I have tried like most of you numerous times with no success. I took the advise from this thread and used Vroot it took about 96 seconds and Bam....rooted! then i followed the instructions on this link ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2532818 ) and now I'm done! THANKS!!!!!!!! hope this helps. I did this on my mac through parallels 9 my device is note 3 SM-N900A 4.3 build N900AUCBNB4
I had the same problem as everyone else. Odin would not recognize my note 2 (Windows 7) or acknowledge that it was connected. I got the correct drivers to load by going to USB options on the phone and checking Connect as: Media Device (MTP) while connected to the PC. Windows automatically installed the drivers. I then shutdown my device, put it in download mode, and Odin recognized it and I was able to flash.

Make Odin Recognize Note 2
1. Open Odin
2. Get Samsung Note into Odin Mode (on off state, hold down volume down, home, and then power button)
3. Plug in to USB
4. If it doesn't recognize your device, take out battery (keep it plugged in!), wait a few seconds and put battery back in
5. Odin should now see your phone under ID:COM

Hi friends..
I bought SGSIII yesterday and started to exploring it's options since then.. As it's my first Android I am using some time to getting use to it..
Now here comes my two problems.
1. I am using a wifi router at my house and at first try I was able to connect to it easily.., but since then I am not able to connect again to the same connection. It finds it, tried to connect but then shows saved and then start searching again and couldn't connect it again. I tried factory settings once and the result is still same, can't connect to my wifi again.
2. I tried to root it with both Chainfire tool as well as with SGSIII kit provided here. Both options use ODIN and it's the main problem here.
Once I set my device in Download mode, ODIN doesn't recognize it thus doesn't show anything as detected device and thus I can't go ahead and flash the rooted image thus .tar file .. I am on Windows 8, I tried Windows 7 too but the result is same..
Can anyone suggest me what should I do next.
Thanks..

1) I can't seem to get what the issue with Wifi is but someone might be able to help you out.
2) Seems like you dont have the proper drivers for the device installed. The easiest way to solve this is to download KIES and install it. This will help you get all the necessary drivers and hopefully after that, ODIN should be able to detect the phone. Thats pretty much what I did.

For problem 1.
Call *#0011#
Choose wifi
Turn Power saving mode off.
This is a known problem with some s3's. Including mine. Best to flash cm9 and follow steps above. Its not an exact solution. But is far better than what I was experiencing!

My phone connects pretty easily with my PC when it's ON., problem starts when I put it under Download mode and then try to connect it to ODIN..
Any more suggestions.. Thanks for your replies though.
Restarted my router and wifi seems to be working fine again.. Well I hope it will keep working else I would know that why this is happening. Thanks for your suggestions.. Now I am just more concerned about ODIN problem coz I need to root my device and that's much needed issue.. Thanks.

Yup, installing KIES should help .When you connect the phone, usually the drivers required for mass storage are automatically installed. Different drivers are needed to get the PC to recognize the phone when it is download mode.
I guess they are ADB related drivers and I saw a prompt for that while drivers were installing but still to be sure I am installing it to see if that would help. Thanks, will notify the result here soon..
Nope, didn't help.. Installed Samsung Kies latest version too but still the same result..

It seems to be a unique problem, then. I saw this thread and tried uninstalling all my samsung drivers. I let Kies run in the background and connected my phone in download mode when Odin was running. All drivers got successfully reinstalled. Check whether Samsung USB Drivers are installed when you install Kies. Sometimes, it skips those due to errors. I've encountered that once or so.

Yes, I did..
@slking1989
It's not..
I will try to remove all drivers .. then install KIES and then put my phone under download mode to see whether it will install all drivers then.. Will update later how it goes.
Ok.. Installed Windows 7 on my PC just to be sure that Windows 8 is not the culprit.., turned out it is not.. It's not working on Windows 7 too..
One thing to specify here is that when phone is on and if I connect it to my PC, ODIN recognize it and ID part turns to blue but not when I put it under Download mode.. so anymore suggestions friends as this is a nightmare to use it without root..
First, get the driver pack from the forum.
Go to the device manager on the computer when the phone is in Download mode and search it (should have a yellow triangle). Then right-click, Update driver.
Let it search on your computer, it should find and activate it within a few seconds

On my system, I could never get the Kies icon to show up in the system tray, however it is running in the background. He might need to kill the Kies processes from Task Manager.
All of a sudden my Galaxy S2 has started giving me the Error: Hardware ID Missing every time I plug it into my PC
It worked perfectly fine until today.
I have rebooted my PC
I have fully removed and reinstalled Kies
I have restarted the Phone (including removing the battery)
I have factory reset the phone
It does not pick up in Kies either
Phone otherwise works perfectly fine

My Wifes Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 3G P5100
My Sons Galaxy Pocket
All pick up fine including in Kies except for my SGS2

I seem to recall that kies updated itself this morning so it could be a glitch in that.

im guessing you have a windows pc?
samsung put out a driver update for the computer that caused the error.
only way i found to fix the problem is to do a system restore back a few days before the update.
my update was automatic, im going to see if i can stop that update from happening for now..
ic you can call samsung and make them aware like i did...
You can as well forget about kies altogether and your problem is all gone.
BTW I hate that terrible app called kies

It's the fault of outdated Windows Update drivers for our phones.
Correct way of installing drivers if above error is present:
1. Disconnect phone from PC.
2. Uninstall Kies and drivers.
3. Download fresh copy of Kies from Samsung website.
4. Turn off Internet connection on PC <- important! This will force OS to look for drivers on PC first instead of Windows Update.
5. Install Kies, run it.
6. Connect phone to PC and wait for drivers installation.
7. Turn on Internet connection.
8. Done.

Can you be a little more specific in your instructions? The way you've ordered and worded the steps is really vague and does't make much sense, especially since the PC must be connected to the internet to install Kies. I'm also confused as to whether I'm supposed to uninstall the Kies on my phone as well, or leave it be.
EDIT: Retried the installer and everything worked perfectly, just make sure the internet is down before you plug in your device.
If you still have trouble with "Hardware ID Missing" I suggest the following:
1.Install the latest version of Kies.
2.Uninstall only the "SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones".
3.Install the slightly older "SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones.exe" version 1.5.6.0 from the from the following link:

i am sorry i am not quite understand what is Samsung driver suite.
I just go to samsung website to get the latest KIES and download Driver 1.4.8.0 and 1.5.6.0 exe
hardware id missing shown after installing the latest KIES with the default driver 1.5.9.0
then i uninstall the driver from control panel and restart my computer
after that i install the driver 1.4.8.0 (or 1.5.6.0) (Oh. sorry I cannot confirm that the driver version right now as I am not @ home, )
then restart the computer again
before running the KIES
i plug my phone first and let the driver installed.
after driver installed , i remove my phone as usb drive
then i run KIES and plug my phone
Hey Guys,
I have had my note 2 for a couple weeks now and have finally decided I want to root/unlock it. I am running into some very frustrating problems trying to get the drivers to install. I have tried using Kies to install them, that doesn't work. I have tried the toolkit and that also doesn't work. Every time I plug my phone into my computer after installing the drivers (Yes, I have checked "USB DEBUGGING") it just continuously starts flipping back and forth between "connected as an installer" and "MTTP".
I am at a complete loss on how to get this thing connected to my computer. When I check the status on the toolbar it always says Samsung_Android = "failed" or "device unplugged". Device manager picks up the phone but there is the yellow warning box present and when I select update drivers it tells me they have already been installed and updated.
I first thought I was having problems because I am running windows via bootcamp on my macbook, but I have tried installing the drivers on 3 other PCs and each one will not pick up my phone. This isn't my first go-round with rooting/unlocking phones, so to say this is very frustrating is a complete understatement.
Is it possible I have a faulty phone or is there something else I can try?
Thanks for the help.
Go to control panel/system/about computer. Should show u what ur computers running. And on the left is advanced settings. Open it and go to hrdware. The setting on the bottom about driver installation, adjust that to only install drivers from windows if not on my computer. Un install all ur phone drivers, restart, re install, restart and u should be all good. Windows pisses me off. Lol hope this helps.

SOOOO stupid......I had to completely restore my phone back to factory and the drivers installed finally. That was a terrible experience, but at least I can root and unlock now!! Thanks guys
Computer wont recognize my device anymore. I have downloaded every set of drivers from this forum, from the samsung website, I even tried downloading kies but it wouldnt recognize it either.
It worked before I did the following and now it doesnt.
First I rooted my phone with route 66 everything was going fine until I made the huge mistake (not knowing) and downloaded rom manager so that I could do a nandroid backup. Well as we all know now, you cant do that. So I got the deadly uellow verizon triangle saying unauthorized software bring it to the store. So I went through the xda forums and found the one that told me how to fix it. I used odin with the alternate restore and got it back up and running. So I wanted to go back and use adams one click unlock and root. I got everything downloaded and ready. I put my phone in developer mode and plugged it in. It starts trying to find the drivers and then it flips from debugger mode to media mode everytime. It starts seeing it as everything but a samsung phone. It says found camera and even cd rom but not the phone. I have read through everything and tried everything I could think of but I am at a loss. PLEASE HELP

Turn off your phone, connect to your computer with the USB cord and turn back on your phone. It should start the drivers and connect to your device.

I tried that, it is still not seeing it like it is supposed to. I was able to get Odin to recognize it so that I could flash the rooted stock again but I can't get Casual Jailbreak to work. I'm not sure if it is because the drivers or not but I am guessing it has something to do with it. Every time I plug it in, it starts searching for drivers and then always switches from usb debugging mode to media mode. The checkmark is still in usb debugging but I don't think it actually is. You can watch it go from device as installer to media.
Are you using the driver install app (zadig i think its called) to install the heimdall driver on top of "gadget serial". Looking at your other post it seems like a driver issue. One thing ive noticed is, if odin can see the device then heimdalll cant and vice/versa. So if odin can see it you have the wrong driver, if you are infact installing the heimdall driver my second question is, does windows xp x64 use driver sig enforcement like win7 x64 does? if so you probably need to disable it. Just throwing my $0.02 out there.
Are you using the official USB cable? I had an aftermarket cable that had worked for months, then decided to quit working. It works with other devices just not the Note2. Changed to my original cable and all is well.

Also try plugging it in to the PC and not through a hub/keyboard/monitor port

If it sees the device in the dumb verizon cd mode thing and ptp than it can see adb. Its not the cable. however i would try setting the usb debugging first than set it to camera mode. adb should still be able to pick it up
Thank you everyone for your help, I finally got the drivers working and the bootloader unlocked

How? Fixing to unlock my spanking new note also. I had the drivers issues late last night. When installing drivers through the Z app I never could get it to install Samsung usb drivers nor did I see serial gadget option. Running Windows Vista 64bit. I know I have Java.

I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II SCH-i605 which has the 4.3 OTA. I downloaded Saferoot, unzipped it - and tried to root. I am ALWAYS getting stuck at "waiting for device to appear"
My computer recognizes my phone as an installer, camera, or media device - depending on which I have selected. I have tried running Saferoot using 4 different USB ports, 5 different USB cables (including the original white one the phone came with) and EVERY time I get stuck at "waiting for device to appear".
Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

Uninstall the drivers and reboot. Install the samsung drivers and reboot. ensure windows can search & and install from windows update. now try the process. the drivers are the toughest part of the process.

I am at a total loss.
I did everything you suggested. still no joy.
I did notice that every time I connect my phone I am given the RSA Key box and click Always from this phone...but it asks this EVERY time I connect my phone.
If I clicked Always ... why does it always ask me?
I am thinking I should have kept my Droid RAZR.........
I really do not understand how my computer recognizes my phone as an SCH-i605 with bot the "phone" and "card" as possible drives but the command prompt cannot see my phone...
I have reinstalled the drivers at least 3 times now - from the device itself, from the Samsung website, and from another forum on this site...nothing is working...
I even re-flashed the 4.3 .tar file using Odin and went through the entire process of re-setting up my phone...no joy.
Oh Android - why do you hate me so?
@jburchii,
You've probably done this already, but just making sure....Have you enabled USB debugging for your phone under developer options?
If not... you can find this in your system settings.

Yes - Did this...I am re-installing Kies hopefully this will work...oh the drudgery.
Update: I just installed Kies 3 - I currently have the Samsung USB driver for mobile phones installed (it is in my "Programs and Features)...still getting stuck on "waiting for device"
I mean NOTHING seems to be working. Does anyone who successfully completed this on an SCH-i605 have a copy of the driver they are using?

I've ran into this problem before and one or both of these fixed it for me.
Use the factory USB cable that came with your Samsung Phone
Try another computer
So nothing worked until I downloaded Safe Root.apk
Now I AM rooted on Nebulae 3.6.
