Please go to android central forums for your modding needs.. i found out 99% of the items here do not work with our phones.. there is a custom recovery (made by same guy) for the S that's works great. Plus a few roms and themes made for our phones. Hope this helps if you need any help feel free to ask...

What I normally do is root so that I get cwm to make band backups and I can use fancy apps that help for further steps.
Unfortunately you'll have to read 1000s of posts about kernels/roms and how to use certain tools.
I'm no expert myself, but the more I read, and like watching you tube videos, the more I learn.
Also, you've got to tread carefully if your phone is still under warranty and you need to send it back....lol

An Introduction

I am a fairly new member here and I must say that I love this place. This has been the most useful site I have ever come across, concerning things android. Tinkering with electronics and computers has been one of the things that came naturally to me and so getting my first android was pretty exciting as I've never cared for iOS or Blackberry platforms. I have always been interested in Linux, which probably helped in my decision to go with android ( price also played a factor lol ). My first android was an INQ Cloud Touch, which I immediately rooted, installed busy box and ROM toolbox. Nice phone, but sadly it was also my first and only hard brick. lol. A twitchy thumb and system files = a bad thing. Replacement phone was the HTC Status ( chacha ) which I couldn't get the bootloader unlocked ( did eventually thanks to xda, now running CM9 ). So I went looking for another phone and stumbled on the Samsung Galaxy Ace and fell in love with it. Thanks to these forums the Ace was the first phone I rooted and installed a custom rom on. It is also the one that I've gotten brave enough to try a few different scripts on to extend the internal memory.
My sincere thanks for all the developers here, and for the members willing to offer any help. This is the site I have been recommending to anyone I know who have expressed an interest in improving thier android experience. A little knowledge, some curiosity and a willingness to try anything, can be a great thing...unless you brick your phone, then experience is a teacher as well. lol.
Thanx again.
the ace is a nice phone with lots of dev support

[Q] Installing a Nexus 7 rom on the Sero 7 Pro?

So, my question is just what the title says. It's probably an incredibly stupid question, but i'm curious nonetheless.
Everyone keeps saying that the Hisense Sero 7 Pro has hardware that's basically identical to the Nexus 7 (grouper), besides the sd card slot, and I was wondering if it's possible to install a rom that's meant for one, on the other.
The main reason I ask is i'd like to install AOKP, PA, or even Ubuntu Touch on my Sero Pro, but I can't find a way to do this.
Even if there are roms that I haven't found yet that work on the Sero, I'm still curious about my original question...
Thanks in advance!
Doubtful it would work unless you specifically port the ROM to your device, which if they are as identical as you say may not be too hard to do. But you'll have to do a lot more research to find out what is the same and what differs

I would try to port one, but I wouldn't even know where to begin... I get the idea that that's pretty complicated. I'd love to learn how, so if you could point me in the right direction, that'd be helpful.
Well I'm on mobile so its too much work for now to research the links for you, but Google and xda have excellent search functions. A good starting place is xda university or simply going developer.android.com to learn more. Be prepared to do a lot of reading if you don't have a solid base of understanding android code or Linux programing

Around the fourth or fifth post you will find some links
Best of luck!

That's a lot of reading, I'd better get started...
There's not much else to say, except thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.
