****You can use this keyboard wherever you input words****
This does require root!!! I take no responsibility for this or what happens to your device. I STRONGLY recommend a nandroid before testing any of this. You assume the risks for trying this. Also I am not 100% sure if this works for other android devices, but I do believe it does, if you want to try it and let us know then go for it.
I don't take credit for any of this. I just found it and wished to share with the community.
So far everyone I have texted has recieved my emoji. IPhone people get them seeing as its built in. Android people you text have to have it enabled on their device in order to see it (the receiver). Unless your on CM10.1.
Now onto what I did to get it working.
(On CyanogenMod 10.2 or AOSP this app does change anything)
First I got the app from this link. Followed the instructions for the apk.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29281110&postcount=1
(NOTE: THE EMOJI WILL ONLY SHOW UP IN BLACK AND WHITE ON YOUR DEVICE - the sender. The reciever will see it however they have it configured on the receivers end)
Once the app is installed I went into the app and hit the apply button. The app requires root privileges. Also the phone reboots itself after its done.
Once fully rebooted. I rebooted into my recovery(I am using clockworkmod touch) and flashed in the recovery the zip file from the following link:http://d-h.st/dHv
Which can found from this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2056558
I did wipe cache partition and dalvik cache just in case. And after flashed zip, I rebooted and had the following.

To pull up the emoji keyboard what you need to do is swipe down from the notification bar at the top and change your input method. Once changed you can select your emoji and then go back to stock keyboard and continue typing away.
Hopefully it works for others. I will try to help where I can but I am no expert nor do any kind of development. Best of luck to all interested.
Attached here is the most recent keyboard of iWnn IME which I myself pulled from my Nexus 7(2013). Has a different look behind it. Attached is an image of it also so you can get an understanding of what it looks like.

************EDIT ************
I have gone on to test this on my old rezound. And it also works. So I can confirm this works on android version 4.0.3, 4.1.1, 4.2.2, and 4.3.

I noticed if you try to delete emojis from the IME using SwiftKey it causes text in the input box to disappear and doesn't actually remove them. Going back to the emoji keyboard and deleting them there takes care of this. This isn't a problem with the stock keyboard.
Also, emoji enabler messes up the Japanese dictionary.
So....I would really like to build on this.
Some ideas I have are try to figure out how I can change over to color emoji as opposed to just black and white.
Additionally I would like to maybe remap a button on the HTC sense keyboard that would automatically bring up the emoji keyboard. Whether it be a long press or something different. Kind of like the button to change between languages.
My problem is that I don't much on editing files or any kind of development. Any direction would be helpful.

Has anyone tried this on a Sense 5 based ROM?
Sent from my Droid DNA using Tapatalk 2
Is it totally changing the system fonts? Bcoz i am playing lords and knights and i am not able to see emoji characters. I am able to write but can not see any of them.
No need to flash anything. Just root your phone, download the link which author gave you about font enabling, then use it. Reboot your phone, works fine with htc one x, venomx 3.6.1
Or just use kii keyboard. Full ios6 emoji support
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
True but this was an option for those that would want to stick to sense ROMs and HTC stock input method for there typing purposes.
Plus with this method you do have iOS 6 emoji support.
The rest if my family is on the iPhone and they all receive my emoji and I see them no problem just black and white as indicated in the OP

For all who might be interested to try... Following the instructions in this article will help you to install Gingerbread keyboard:
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/06/download-gingerbread-keyboard-for-rooted-devices/
Cheers
Confirm, it's working. It is better though to have the language set for English...if one would choose another language, it may have some missing characters. For example, I had also Romanian selected. When I switch to it, the first row displays only some of the numbers (the ones that are typed when you long press on the key). 1,2,4, 5 and 9 are shown (if I remember exactly) the rest of them being inaccessible. If you switch to English, everything looks just fine.
Keyboard seems (and looks) better than the standard Froyo keyboard (and this is how it's advertised too), has some new functionality, but I still prefer Better Keyboard. For those using English layout and don't have Better Keyboard installed, this Gingerbread ported keyboard will be a better option than the standard one (and best thing...it's free)
it works but that's about it.
The dictionary doesn't know some of the basic words even though it supports dutch. :s
And I don't think its made for hdpi, it looks pretty small.

I'm using a HTC mt4g (rooted and s-off), installed this and have only English selected, yet as soon as I touch a key it FC for 'android.process.inputmethod.latin
Also, my phone has the same resolution as the legend (480x800) and the keyboard seems to be sized correctly.
Anyone else with this FC issue?
The Legend is 480*320, not 800*480.
When I tried, the installation failed because it couldn't verify the zip file.
Ah gotcha. I'm just using the xda app and thought the legend was the incredible..
It seems like a lot of people are having issues with this keyboard currently

I got it to work by downloading the keyboard zip made by fabulous. Google it. If you have a problem with the keys being to small, you need to download the LCD Density app, set it to 240 and restart, then set it back to the default of 160 and restart.
They keyboard should be fine after that. I've been using it for a while and prefer it to Swype, HTC, and Android 2.2.
One last note. Restarting the phone may cause the keyboard to revert to a small state so be prepared to do the LCD fix again.

I really really dislike the bluedialer in-call background. It's ugly, and not even rendered correctly, seriously I could have created a better background in photoshop in less than 5 minutes.
With that being said, I have put together a few different styles for the in-call background image. Obviously, the last one is the x2's blur ugliness. They are platform signed and ready to go! This is only for the Droid X2, please do not try on any other phone.

This is a system app replacement. There are instructions below if you are unfamiliar with this process, it's pretty straight forward, and you can't really go wrong.
Let me know which one is your favorite. I'm really curious. I love 4 and 5 the best.
Instructions:
There is a really good guide, here. It spells out exactly how to replace a system app. I suggest using root explorer, it's only a few dollars in the app market, but it's been well worth the money. I always use it. There are also alternatives, I think FileExpert is one that uses root permissions. (Obviously being rooted is essential here!)
The apks attached will need to be renamed to BlurPhone.apk first! Then copy it over to /system/app, once you've done that make sure it's permissions are set as follows (long-press on file if using root explorer):
Then reboot, and you're done. Make a test call to be sure it works. If it doesn't, you did something wrong.
I prefer the green personally

+1 for number 5.
Just givin a bump...installed blue-aurora and its pretty cool!!!
Any chance on updating these (at least #5, anyway) to work with Molton ROM?
So just on replacing system apps in general, if I want to replace the Eclipse Text Messaging app already on my phone with the Handcent app (which is my default sms app and is already on my phone), would I download the apk online? Or is it the apk located in the data/app folder, and I would just rename it, move it over, and adjust permissions?
Note: Voice input doesnt work but atleast we have autocorrect finally.
Just gonna drop this off here first:

I can't access keyboard debug menu on my tablet so I figured I would try ICS keyboard and well...that didnt go well so I thought...why not the gingerbread keyboard? And poof! It works perfectly minus voiceinput*because I cant get into debug menu* so, time for instructions?
First, you need to put the APK on your SDcard:
Download link: here
Next you need to push to your SDcard either through adb or just using USB mass storage.
Afterwards copy to system/app/ using a file manager *ES file manager or Root explorer is recommended. Root Explorer for those of you who use paid apps or ES for those of you who want a free alternative. I used Root explorer.
Here is the VERY important part, mod the permissions to the following:
Code:
Read, Write
Read
Read
Finally, just reboot and you will have it.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Code:
You can redownload the stock APK from [URL="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15069134/LatinIMEbackup.apk"]here[/URL]
and follow the rest of the guide starting after you download. It's the same universally. Also note that not all keyboard apps work well in system which is why I did it with the stock gingerbread app. Ice cream sandwich keyboards aren't too /system friendly.
it works well. I hope we can get the ICS keyboard up and running. Their is just a small visual issue with background behind the keys being white not black like in your screen shots.
I'd be happy if I could get Swiftkey Tablet up and running, but I'll give this a shot. I found the menu where you can change the colors of the default keyboard, but some other ones have added functionality that I'd like to have.

You need to hold down the comma key on the gingerbread keyboard and go into settings.

Holding down the comma key and going into the settings I was given an option of picking the thumb keyboard and was able to pick the options I want to use with the thumb keyboard. It's working great so far.

New thread for all the apps.
Hope people like this, it's a little mod that enables multiple users on the phone. I have it set at a max of eight users that can be added (though I only use 2, 1 for me and 1 for guest.)
Issues:
*reboot of the shell when adding a new user.
*phone calls can not be placed via secondary users.
*while logged in to a secondary user if receiving a phone call, you must switch back to primary users to accept.
*themes do not work with secondary users.
Just flash through recovery and enjoy

The no root access is a form of security and also due to superuser not being updated in almost a year. If you install superSu or (I believe) the cyanogenmod superuser, you can enable root on other profiles. Text messages can be sent via the other profiles, but they can not be viewed. Calls are supposed to be able to be received however upon testing they ring, but there's no way to answer. I'm looking in to this now.
Here is a mod that shouldn't have the lock screen bubbles: http://db.tt/BNEMJC6u
Let me amend that statement, calls can not be placed in secondary users. Due to the feature being for tablets and tablets not including phone capabilities
So seems like the calling issues are limitations of android. I'm sure there's a way to fix it, but it's way out of my league
Great job on this joey! I'm not on CM, I'm on rootbox, so it may or may not work. As for the phone/calling issue, is it only on the secondary profile, or does this bork calls for primary/all profiles?
Thanks.

Primary user is just fine. If you switch users while the phone is ringing you can still answer it too.
The issue with the phone in secondary users is it checks the userID and rejects anything but the primary user causing a force close when trying to call.
Also if this mod won't work for your ROM I'll try and see if I can make one that works for rootbox

EDIT: Set up the new user, went back to the owner user, changed the theme and I get the same FC's when going back to the guest.

I know this is an old topic, but the links are dead and the last time I tried editing apks, it got ugly. Wondering if this works on the current version of cm10.1?
So, I noticed there are literally 0 threads on how to enforce the Tablet UI on apps inside of our device. I realize that this may be common sense to some people but I figured there would be SOMETHING. However to my knowledge it is not included in any rom available (other than the new PA rom by -a-, Props to him for making the attempt) that includes a tablet UI of any kind. So here is the very simple method.
Tweaks:
1. Download ROM toolbox LITE
2. Open ROM toolbox LITE
3. Slide over to PERFORMANCE
4. TAP BUILD.PROP Editor
5. Find ro.sf.lcd_density (IN CM10.1 this is set to 213 by default)
6. Change this to 160 to avoid any conflicting issues with the market.
7. Reboot as instructed by ROM toolbox LITe
8. Everything except Status bar will now run in Tablet mode. (im workin on it lol)
9. PROfIT.
