Did I kill my 4g - HTC Droid DNA

I think I killed my 4g. I don't know how it is just gone. I have had my phone rooted since I got the thing as soon as it came out. I have been on the Viper ROM for the majority of that time now. The other night I was here reading the forums. It was something about wallpapers that I had to flash. I downloaded and flashed. The flash failed, and my phone never booted up. I was unlocked and had S-OFF as well. It would just get stuck on the HTC screen. I first did a factory reset and wipe of it all. Nothing resolved, but I did have TWRP, so I could still get into that each time after. Since I did have that, I was able to sideload Viper again, but I never got 4g. Well, I finally have relocked my phone, RUU'ed it back to stock, and I still don't get 4g. And I know it shouldn't be a sim card issue, as the same one works in my Nexus, still in love with it, with 4g. Does anyone have any ideas of how Icould possibly get 4g back. I need it!!!

When I did use RUU, did it not flash a radio that should have bought 4g back. I am going to be doing that as my next step, but I thought my radios would be fine by now. I hope that helps me.

I got back into 4g from the hidden programming menu. Had to switch to lte only and get great 4g... When I switch to anything but, it always reverts back to 3g. Have done factory resets from pure stock. Flashed a new Rom, radios, done what I can think to do. I'm baffled. Anymore ideas?
Thanks

I need some help!!!!! annoying :(

i have to go to work but hopefully when i get home someone has some advice to help me! my phone wont go past the first screen on boot no matter what i do even if itry to go to a back up.. i had bamf 1.6.3 installed and i woke up this moring to the data not working again like it always happens this phone sucks.. so i went to reboot to fix it and then it just stayed in a boot loop so i went inot hboot and did a back up and it still did the same thing.. i was emailing my gf fine all nigth and stuff then woke up and data was not working nothing would load so rebooted and boot loops non stop! i have no idea why i went back the the 4th radio on adrynalins thread to see if that would help with signal last night and flashed the rom and everything worked great until this morning..
Sounds like a radio issue to me, but I'll defer to the smarter folks.
Do you have a backed-up ROM from when your phone was working that you can revert to in the meantime?
I was going to help you till you said this phone sucks. Don't blame the phone for verizons mistakes.
Oh and I have no idea what you did to get the phone to not boot past the initial screen your best bet would be to get the rooted ruu load that up and go from there. If it still doesn't boot then you have a problem.

If you can still get into recovery from hboot and you have a rom zip still on your SD card, I would do a reset, flash rom, clear cache and dalvik, then boot to see if it fixes it. If it's still looping it might be a bad flash of the radio...

So the phone doesn't even turn on now? Are you sure the battery isn't dead?
As long as you can get the phone to turn on and get it into HBOOT then you should be able to fix it. And I doubt the phone not working is because it "sucks." You ****ed it up somehow.
yea doesnt turn on at all.. i got into hboot tried loading different roms and back ups and nothing would take just looped and quit being ass hurt about the sucks comment its not like you made the phone geez.. i dont know what happened i just rebooted the phone in the morn and it looped it took me by surprise..
would a bad sim card cause the data to just stop until a reboot? cause it would happen no matter what rom or battery or kernel i tried...

Seems to me you got some excellent advice from previous posts. You got/had a radio issue. You should have been using a newer radio....like the first or second one down from Adrynalyne's Thread. You flashed the stock radio onto your phone which is probably why the issues started especially after a reboot when everything was allowed to refresh.

Note: Remember to grab the new radio which is the FIRST download.

There it is since the previous version requires it most likely does the newest!!
I believe from past experience, that is you pull the SD card, and put it in a computer, load the rooted ruu, then hboot and the phone will wipe and install a clean Rom, you may do the factory reset in hboot also

Can you get into hboot?? Not recovery. If so.. Download jcase's rooted RUU/Rename it/drop it on the SD Card/boot into hboot and let it go. If hboot can't bring you back from the land of the loops, I don't know what will.

[Q] Help! I made a big mistake.

I have my Evo 3D and I decided I wanted to flash a ROM on it.
Basically I rooted it and went to flash a ROM on it, and ended up deleting the dalvik cache and cache.
The bad part is, I forgot (like a complete idiot) to do a Nandroid backup.
Is there any way to come back from this?
you could just run an RUU and get back to stock.
btw what problem do you have while flashing new roms?
deleting the dalvick cache and cache dousnt matter, it automatically creates it.
If you haven´t backup up your previous rom, then you cant recover it... that´s why it´s called a backup..
So whats the problem?
I think i read it wrong. do you mean you want to restore your previous stock rom + data? if so its not possible to restore the data without a nandroid.

That works even though I can only see the bootloader screen / TWRP recovery screen.?
And my problem was that I had an error while trying to flash room. I might have done it wrong.
But I just want my phone to work. I dont need my apps or contacts etc
.
Not sure what the problem is either. If you delete the dalvik turn the phone back on and it automatically recreates it. No problems what so ever.
It sounds like you flashed or tried to flash a ROM without doing a full wipe. However I'm not sure.
Perhaps you could tell us in more detail the problem and what you would like to do and we can help ya..

I know that you are trying to help, but all I wanted to know was how to make it back to normal. But seeing as I did it incorrectly, I could really use the help.
I did not do a Nandroid backup.
What I did was try to flash the rom without wiping my phone, like you said.
Then I selected the option of clearing both cache and dalvick cache.
Then tried flashing rom again. Did not work.
I am sorry I cant recall what the error was when doing it, but I will let you know when I try again in a second (if it doesnt work this time.) [ I also found a different tutorial and would like to give it a try.
There isn't a way to get back to the same state your phone was in before wiping it since you did not do a backup. If you are gsm then find the gsm RUU. If CDMA then find the CDMA version. That will get you back to the stock version but it will be as if you just turned it on for the first time ever.
It would be easier to just download a different ROM and put it on your SD card then flash it. Although it won't be stock...
But before doing any of that just boot recovery and do a full wipe. Then reflash the ROM you were trying to install.
I got back to stock with RUU. Then I figured out how to successfully back up and flash my phone with different roms.
Thank you for all your help.
Good luck in your flashing endeavours! Its addicting.
I actually am having an issue. I am trying to flash a rom on my phone and it says im extracting boot.img with a progress bar on the bottom. The progress bar seems to be staying at one point and not moving.
He said something about naming something to PG86IMG and wasnt clear to me what to name PG86IMG.
Any speculations?
Edit: was impatient.

I tried the wire trick. Couldn't get it to work. Maybe because I used speaker wire which isnt a sold wire but strands. Do you think that makes a difference?
As long as there is a connection all the way through, no. Keep in mind i tried 20 times or so, you have to get the timing right.
Take another look at the demo vid and try again, if you're not sure about the wire, use a paperclip with some tape around it. (tape is important, you don't want your skin to touch the metal)

I did the wire trick about a week or two ago and I couldnt time it just right so I just continuously tapped the SD card metal holder dealio with the paperclip about every second and it worked the fourth or fifth try.

[Q] Suddenly roaming with full bars and triangle on top

I think i might have got to comfortable with my phone and possibly screwed something up in the process.
I recently have been Installing and Removing various ROMS on my phone so I can find one I am happy with and stick to as a DAILY.
I recently deleted from the SD Card all the folders in it besides DCIM, MUSIC, and my own Media. I figured its just an SD Card even if I removed it the phone should still operate. But I haven't touched anything Internally on the phone itself. Just always making CLEAN installs before installing ROMS under Amon Ra WIPE ALL. Which it skips my SD.
So for some reason now I have no Mobile Network on my phone it says its Disconnected. It also shows Full bars but with a TRIANGLE
over it now. I want to go back to regular data. I have a Nandroid Backup of my HTC Rezounds FACTORY ICS Build. While it help if I reverted to that? and started over with the ROM I like?
Have you tried long pressing on Mobile Network in settings and seeing if you it shows LTE/CDMA?
It does, and it is selected.
Take a look at this.
I found a way to take it off of ROAMING. In system select I switched the CDMA ROAMING MODE from Automatic B (I think it was) to Home.
I have a feeling it has something to do with a rom I installed last night. MIUI it might have change some options in the phone internal system
to thinking its not in the US. Im running stock ICS HTC at the moment from my NAN backup of Amon Ra. But at the moment its showing FULL SIGNAL BARS
& then seconds later no Signal Bars with an X over it. The verizon wireless rep told me that I was connecting to their SERVERS. I can also make calls but only under Automatic B settings in Roaming.
Im not sure what to do at this point. I wish there was someway I could reset the phone SIGNAL OR DATA OR CONNECTION SETTINGS or radio or something. o DEFAULT. I even reset back to my NANDROID Backup and WIPED all before I did that and I was still having the same problem. It doesnt make sense to me unless its a TOWER near by that is Out of order.

You always have the option of flashing a RUU and with that putting your phone back to bone stock.

i would say start from scratch, flash the global ruu twice, pull the. zip followed by a factory reset. thats what I would do, if I was in your shoes.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
Or reflash your ROM. If you can do a dirty flash you can just flash over it and I think you won't lose your set up. That should restore any necessary folders/files if that's the issue.
Oh! What about this... Format it in recovery or via your phone in settings. Since there's that option it should put whatever is needed on there.
If you can't tell, I'm just brainstorming here... I don't know what the files and folders are but seems to me formatting it from within the phone should work or why would you be able to do it?
EDIT: I just reread your post where you posted the pic. I guess you probably have more issues than just the ext sd. Probably best to RUU it and get back to stock and start from scratch. Then you know it's all good and clean.
Thanks

So I flash the RUU twice one after another. Delete the zip? and Boot and do a factory reset?

You don't need to factory reset after running the RUU, it puts it all back to factory stock anyway. Relock before you run it:
fastboot oem lock
And after it's done you'll need to unlock again and flash a recovery, root, then flash custom rom.

I went into Amon Ra and did a CLEAN WIPE. I wiped everything in the internal storage it was completely blank (I check it under My Computer)
I then restored my Nandroid Backup of my STOCK ICS from Verizon and HTC and Im still getting the same error.

Are you S-On or Off? If S-On, your nandroid may have missed a file that is necessary that can only be replaced by flashing a RUU. Just throwing ideas against the wall.
If I remember correctly, a nandroid from S-On can't touch the kernel and coming from MIUI there may be files that are missing or modified.
In that case, you may be able to pull the stock boot.IMG from the RUU you were on and push that to restore the files.

Another funny thing is I've before restored my Nandroid backup when I needed it with a ROM I had that was Unstable and it was working like it should I was back to normal.
Im thinking it has something to do with their towers in my area. But I called a friend that has Verizon as well and he seems to be handling alright.
I just dont get it. Im going to try that RUU flash and see if that works after I eat dinner and possibly relock my phone.

Quoted the wrong post this is for the zip files.
You should only have to shorten the name to PH98IMG. All the RUUs I've seen are some longer name (usually the name of the site hosting them_PH98IMG.)
Then just place it on the root of your external SD and boot into Hboot.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using xda premium
Are you still working on this?
You should be able to RUU from a zip file. Just make sure it's named PH98IMG.zip, put it on your card and then boot into hboot. It should find that file and run it. Let it run through a few times, do its thing and it should reboot when it's done.
I came back here cuz I just ran across this post from another thread:

So that guy is using his phone normally without the external card. What happens if you boot up with the external card out of the phone?
I think it has something to do with the hardware on my phone that started not functioning. I did try going into recovery wiping the whole phone wiping my sd card and then placing the zip file in my sd card. I then booted into H boot and from ADB locked my phone rebooted and then it started to read the zip file and reinstalled to factory reset. I let it reinstall the files let it do its thing it restarted a couple of times reinstalled everything needed went back into the lock screen and was still having the same issue till now. But it's okay because I called Verizon Wireless spoke with him on the phone and I still have my extended warranty on the phone and they concluded that it was a hardware issue so I got to replace my phone for free lol

Go to phone dialer and put *#*#3646#*#* then go to phone information. Look for a drop down menu and make sure its on CDMA/LTE Only (or anything really with CDMA and LTE in it, that specific one may not show up on your list depending on what ruu your on.) That changes the specifics of how the radio operates incoming connections. Set your data settings back to HOME and turn off roaming. Lemme know if that works.

[Q] Almost back to stock

After rooting my phone I flashed a few roms and not being happy with them, I decided to flash back to stock. I downloaded a stock rom (from the faq.
Everything seems to be working except I cannot connect to 4G. Where I life has 4g and befor I started flashing it I had no issues connecting to the network. I am able to use 3G, texting and am able to make calls.
Any Ideas?

1. I rooted the phone following these directions. However I did not make a back up (have rooted several phones before and never needed it.)
2.i flashed CM10 and it's boot.img to the phone. (cm-10.1-20130304-EXPERIMENTAL-fireball-M2.zip). I got the rom from the CM site.
At this point 4g was still working. However I was unable to send pictures via SMS.
3. A friend of mine who says he knows about phones susgested that I call *228 and update roaming (option 2 when called).
I did and 4G stopped working. This also did not fix the picture problem.
4. I flashed viperLTE and its boot.img to my phone. Picture texting worked but still no 4g.
5. I flashed this stock rom and boot.ing to the phone.
Still no 4g.
Between each flash I wiped the cache, d. cache, system and factory reset.
I think that is everything. If I think of anything else I ill edit this post.
Thank you everyone,

Calling *228 from a 4G phone with a sim card can fry the sim card and it sounds like that could be what happened here.

Thank you everyone,

look in settings and see what your preferred network is set at and in about phone to see if it says lte13, as far as cm10.1 -- when your mms didn't work all you had to do was was dalvic cache in recovery and mms would have worked. read the op in development for cm10 releases for the work arounds on some bugs it's all there
you may have borked your radio don't know, theres direction there to do that to(repair radio)

'LTE/CDMA' is selected.

Calling *228 from a 4G phone with a sim card can fry the sim card and it sounds like that could be what happened here.

Is there a way to test this?
You may need to run the ruu package to get your radio working again. The stock and cm10 rils can sometimes get screwed up flashing between the 2. You can find the ruu on unlimited's site. Which can be found in the s off thread in development.

Your friend does not know about phones. Consider ignoring his future advice. Post 2 of the CyanogenMod thread is likely relevant to you. Did you bother reading the whole first post as is clearly noted?

Calling *228 will not "fry" the SIM card in this phone, but does not serve any purpose for phones with SIM cards.

Please don't unnecessarily recommend running the RUU. In fact if the radio did stop functioning from using CM, the RUU has nothing to do with the recovery process. It's the factory reset feature which restores the correct settings in the radio's NV memory.
I was able to get another sim (attached to a different account) and it gave me 4G. I called Verizon and they refreshed something and that seems to have fixed it. They are sending me a new sim card anyway.
Thanks for the help.

You're right, I misspoke. I was under the impression that a file from the ruu was needed to return to stock ril. Sorry about the confusion.

[Q] flashing and data

I'm on my second DNA I moonshined both phones and a week ago I flash the cm10.1 and had no data ie. Couldn't make a call couldn't text. Internet and everything worked after flashing cm10.1 it stuck on the first screen the "activating" screen so I flashed my backup which is the ROM it comes with out the box. And had no data there also.. Android 4.1.1. Sense 4.1+. Verizon exchanged my phone lucky for me. So i moonshined again and s-off and rooted. But scared to flash again in case this happens again. Coming from gs2, galaxy nexus and gs3 I haven't had to mess with bootloader at all. I guess where I'm going is what do I do if this happens again. I see a option to reset from boot loader? Will that fix the issue if it happens again. Is there something I'm missing before flashing?? I want to flash newtoroots sense 5 ROM just scared. If someone can provide some info on where o went wrong gladly appreciate it.

If this happens you can try the reset from bootloader but of that doesnt work you'll have to do revones return to stock method. There's a thread. Pretty much flashes the RUU (stock everything) and flash stock bootloader. Its not hard. I did this the other day to put my phone back to stock for my replacement.

Sometimes That happen when a Rom like a JB 4.2.2 required to wipe the System in addition to the normal wipe/factory reset. so if you tried
to activate the phone which you already have activated (most skipp activation) the SIM Card reset (someone else said fry) and your location and phone number get lost. so RUU fix all the troubles, but now you can safe flash NOS 4.1.2 very stable normal wipe. is good idea keep in your computer a Stock Restore Backup file. Reset from Custom Recovery won't fix the issue, has to be from Stock Recovery.

Based on the info you gave none of your issues should be caused by the boot loader or moonshine, sounds like a ROM side or kernel side issue. The radio mode may have been switched when you flashed Roms. It should be on CDMA/LTE when on Verizon and WCDMA/GSM when on gsm/Sim. Not sure how APN settings are managed within CM non gsm im not sure there is even an option to edit them. These settings (radio/apns) deal with how the phone connects to the network. Voice and text should provision automatically on stock android, not sure how to manually provision. On Sense based Roms as long as a compatible version of EPST is running one can use special dialer codes to manually provision the phone for connectivity as well as access other helpful settings. From sense *#*#4636#*#* would be the code to reach the Phone Information containing the radio mode switch I mentioned previously.
Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah on jb4.2.2 that activating screen is usually passed right by for a quick second bit some how my phone got stuck on that screen. Oh well its rattled me to the point of not flashing lol. Just rocking nova launcher with some icon packs. Might try sense 5 ROM tonight. Wish me luck! Lmao

If it happens again go into boot loader and just do the reset option? Is that it do I need to have anything else? Thanks again for the reply

RUU (after Stock Phone Reset) is the only way to Recovery from this, this happen to me once, what happen
-Operator Network Change (u can only have Internet)
-APN Setting Doesn't matter if you change it a least it be edited . Unknown Network and Mobile/network type unknown
-Phone Info state Phone number 0000000000 Zeros, Min Unknown, PRL 00000, Meid zeros,
-Restore from you back up out the box: does not work or doesn't restore Call and Text ( this is the problem) Phone doesn't know your location
then u are having internet only 4g like in a Roaming State.
-Flash or push new Rom same Doesn't restore (call/text)
-Factory reset from a custom Recovery Doesn't restore as well
to skip the activating screen you can touch the four corners of the screen in this order
top left
top right
bottom right
bottom left
this will bypass the activating screen
once you're in the rom in cdma subscription change it to the other setting, I stopped using that rom so i cant lead you through it
the aosp roms made my screen flicker so i went back to sense 5
good luck

This Sucks Verizon actually exchanged my phone In store considering I don't know how to ruu or what that is I haven't flashed anything on this new phone to afraid of the same **** happening again. Damn! Is this a cm10.1 thing? Or a android 4.2.2 thing? Is it safe flashing sense based roms ? This is kind of a nightmare for me not flashing anything.

You can safe flash NOS_m7_v3.0.2_VZW_zip , if you have TWRP recovery, just wipe normal factory reset, don't do advanced/ system wipe as most guys recommended, never wipe Storage phone people get stuck without OS because erase everything . I Flashed doing just factory reset on TWRP. I recommend wait for AOSP Rom get most stables soon coming leaks from official Verizon Wireless for the DNA/One. sense /GPE edition
RUU is the Factory image /setting original HTC/Verizon for DNA so when you RUU it revert anything to factory out the box phone
The RUU thing you have to read this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293919&highlight=flash+radio
Edit: Remember do always a nandroid Back up first before flash any Rom so you can easy restore your original Rom if something goes wrong.
additional I keep a Original Back up on my Computer.

I use clockworkmod safe to use? Never used twrp. And I always make a back up that's what's weird. When I flashed cm10.1 and it couldn't activate thought it was odd so I flashed my back up and that was affected also no activation. Anyways. So your saying if I flash something to wipe data/factory reset but don't go into advanced? Just wipe dalvik?
