I've been having this problem too, and suspected it was a problem that only occurs when I'm on the 2G network. What ROM are you using? And has erasing your CID completely solved the problem for you?

Progress report
Just in case anyone's interested / it benefits anyone else with the same problem, this is my progress report.
I've tried:
- Asia Retail stock GB 2.3.6 (SPIRD-40_ASIA_RT_1C.91P_CFC_P2B_Signed.xml), with and without CID
- Asia Retail stock ICS OTA upgrade, with and without CID
- Europe Australia stock ICS (SPDREM_U_01.6.7.2-180_SPU-19-TA-11.2_SIGNEuropeAustraliaEMEA_USASPDRICSRTGB_HWp2b_Service1FF_fastboot.xml.zip), with CID
I'm now testing the last one without CID.
My plan is to then test FTS 3.0 and then... any suggestions?
Sorry for delays, but it takes some time to reproduce the conditions in which I stop receiving SMSes!
Progress report
Another progress report.
I've tried the following with no success:
- Asia Retail stock GB 2.3.6 (SPIRD-40_ASIA_RT_1C.91P_CFC_P2B_Signed.xml), with and without CID
- Asia Retail stock ICS OTA upgrade, with and without CID
- Europe Australia stock ICS (SPDREM_U_01.6.7.2-180_SPU-19-TA-11.2_SIGNEuropeAustraliaEMEA_USASPDRICSRTGB_HWp2b_Service1FF_fastboot.xml.zip), with and without CID
- FTS 3.0 with CID
I'm now trying FTS without CID.
@ciricmisa, can you tell me exactly which ME Retail version you used which didn't have these SMS problems please?
Im now using official jb, and im not exeperiencing any of that problems anymore.. Sending and reciving sms and mms works great now..

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your help.
Another progress report.
The following have not worked for me:
- Asia Retail stock GB 2.3.6 (SPIRD-40_ASIA_RT_1C.91P_CFC_P2B_Signed.xml), with and without CID
- Asia Retail stock ICS OTA upgrade, with and without CID
- Europe Australia stock ICS (SPDREM_U_01.6.7.2-180_SPU-19-TA-11.2_SIGNEuropeAustraliaEMEA_USASPDRICSRTGB_HWp2b_ Service1FF_fastboot.xml.zip), with and without CID
- FTS 3.0 with CID (I didn't get round to trying it without CID)
At the moment, this seems to be working for me:
- D-Wiz JBX 2.0, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2142593
I still had one instance of receiving the same SMS multiple times - but that's significantly better than not receiving it at all!
I'll keep you posted when I can speak more definitively.

Update: unfortunately D-Wiz JBX 2.0 also ran into problems, so now I'm also on Motorola Stock JB (for UK), full flash not OTA.
this problem is persisting from 2.3.6 version.... i too had this problem the only solution is to get a new sim... and make sure never update thro OTA with sim card still in... u can find this solution in official moto forum...

The upgrade to official Motorola JB via flashboot seems to have done the trick. I know of two other people who also fixed this problem by being on JB, one of whom had to do it via flashboot (not OTA) in order to fix it.
I'm now running CM10.1 RC2 + JBX 0.4.6 BSE and it seems to be fine.

it's telcel, from mexico with the *#*#7378423#*#* in software info appears this:

GENERIC - user

available speech codecs:
HR, FR, EFR, AMR_HR, AMR_FR
So please help me i know that i have to root the phone i have already done it but now i need the number to change it please wt19a i know that if i put a wt19i i will have a lot of problems :S thanks
I have the WT19i with exactly the same Phone Software Version:
1250-5829-4.0.1.A.0.283
GENERIC-user
File System Version is only different (i)
WORLD-i_4.0.1.A.0.283
I think the software version you can use works on both models. The difference for (a) and (i) is only the radio air interface software which is a different file.
Nobody knows if upgrading software provides any improvement. I mean to say nobody is able to post the information. You still have to fix the magnetic sensor file yourself in LWW if you want a properly working compass.
They might fix this in ICS, I don't know.

Unlock Bootloader
To update your device needs to have the unlocked bootloader. After that you prefica find a firmware compatible with the version after that seek a stable kernel that works and endanger your cell phone to do the update. Several improvements can exister ROMs prefeiro modified but still I get the original version that came only with the Sony Root is already very good. From clocks to not very high because I have not tested. Some kernel as the kernel if I remember correctly Rage comes up 2.0 Mhz But nYou need of a look at this link http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
ok so if i want to update my phone this week i need an unlocked bootloader if not i'll have to wait until september to upgrade (it's the date that Telcel say for the ics upgrade) :S the only hard thing is to find an "a" frimware i always find "i" versions

First, backup your current firmware. You would need this if you phone will have problems w/ reception. Follow this video tutorial.
But, I don't know where PC Companion stores the downloaded firmware files yet. I only know Update Service. Don't do anything yet if you don't have a backup of your current firmware. Maybe someone here knows the location of the firmware files. I'm using repair option in PC Companion right now to test but I still can't locate it as of now.
Ok I GOT IT Use repair option in PC Companion.
In Windows, show Hidden folders.
Go here:
Local Disk>Program Data>Sony Ericsson>Update Engine>db>"open this folder">blob_fs
Now you can follow the video tutorial..
Anyway.
If you're done w/ the backup of your current firmware,
try Generic US Firmware. It's also WT19a. Based on this list.
CUSTOMIZED US WORLD A 1254-1956
Change your CDA number in build.prop using this tutorial.
Use Root Explorer. Go to system>build.prop. Mount R/W.
Open build.prop w/ text editor and replace the following w/ the US CDA:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Save&Exit.
Now repair using PC Companion. NOTE: You'll loose root access coz it'll update you to .62 (as of now).
Check your 3G/HSDPA signal if it works..If you're having a problem w/ reception, then you should go back to your original branded firmware by flashing the backup you made.
thanks boyq thats what i wanted thanks really ^^
mmm but i had used 3 cda numbers already and still say's that there is no update :S in the x8 worked fine

It's okay. You can try to flash any .58 WT19i firmware and afterwards, you will replace the CDA remember?
Try this WT19i_4.0.2.A.0.58_(1254-1868).rar
And once you repair it via PCC, it will be replaced with an updated US Generic Firmware.
Besides, you already have a backup firmware if anything goes wrong w/ your 3G/HSDPA signal.

But i still asking me why the PCC/SUS didn't let me update qhen i change the CDA number, i remember than in mi x8 i did the same and it worked, but i remeber that first i uninstalled all the garbage of telcel...
can it be that something of the telcel garbage "apps" it's blocking me for update?
second i still downloading all the things i need to flash the frimware, but do you really think that will work changing the CDA? until now it didn't work :S
Well i flashed with that frimware and changed the CDA now each time i put in the PCC repair the phone shut down :S and i don't know why :S

Do these work on the ICS I read they only work for gingerbread ?
would sim unlocking have any effect updating via kies again when Jelly bean gets released ?
Thank you
I was able to get the phone unlocked using the following app.
See the following Link and download the .apk file and install it on your device. But make sure you have rooted phone.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34187077&postcount=685
After you install it then you run it and there is a small gray bar at the bottom you just press that phone unlocked and you restart the device. Everything works fine. It worked for me I hope it works for you as well. Even if u have tried the same app before i suggest you still try the one on that link.

Unlocking has got nothing to do with updates, firmware does.
If kies sees you're rooted, might play hardball with your device.
Why people keep updating via kies? What if power goes off?
And who waits for branded updates to roll out????????????
I'm kidding, it's your right to do so.

If you are simlocked after the JB update, just downgrade to ICS, use galaxysimunlock found on Play Store, then upgrade to JB again.

I may be wrong, but I thought that it doesn't work on JB? I always read that you had to downgrade for the unlock to work. If I am wrong, apologies for false information!

There is a chance, I rooted mine and flashed the first leak of JB (LSJ) and my phone didn't lock (I was unlocked before like your phone). According to poster above you, you can use galaxysim unlock from Play Store on JB leak. So it shouldn't be an issue to fix if it does become locked!

You bought it unbranded and carrier unlocked?
If so, you should be fine.

I got it as a gift but I was said that it is unbranded and so far it worked with cards from 2 different operators and also have't seen any sign of COA on my phone(when it starting or shutting down)

Well then that confirms that it is an unbranded/non-carrier locked phone. Just go ahead and try out JB, you shouldn't get carrier locked, only an extremely slim chance you will, and even then, it can be unlocked again.

What are you waiting for then? Flash JB
Whether its locked or not now is irrelevant.
Also the network sim lock was a bug in the LEAKED rom and is not a factor in the public/final version and even if it was its simple to unlock via a app and we have plenty of topics on unlocking so dont ask for help on this as its already available via search button.

Was that a bug?
I've got locked when I went ICS & JB leak.
Dear All,
It's been 3 weeks of frustration dealing with my XT910
Story started when I upgrade to custom rom liquid smooth from MIUI ICS and found my baseband changed and made my phone can't connect to mobile data. Tried to change my baseband with BMM but nothing worked.
So I decide to flash with jelly bean from this resource:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231289&page=7
I tried to flash with O2 and Retail UK file with RSD Lite.
Then issue starts, I can't boot into BP Tools, the only available boot I can get is only BP HW Diag.
With this situation I can't charge my phone unless I turn it off and charge, and without wifi connection I only can use basic phone function for talk and messaging.
I tried to get helps here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2238589&page=2
Thanks to TheMrCool212 for keep trying help me.
So my situation now:
- my phone (Verizon XT910) is on Retail UK Jelly Bean but I can't go to BP Tool
- when I restored my CID (I did back up before flashing) I got this error:
Invalid CG OTV (CG: cdrom): Invalid SP Data
Invalid CG HAB (CG:cdrom, status: 0X0056)
Invalid CG OTV (CG: cdrom)
This is my phone information now:

So please help me, how can I get my phone back to normal.
I don't know what I did so wrong that made my phone like this.
I hope any softbrick will have solution and I hope this is not the end of my phone
Cheers.
There is no such thing as "Verizon XT910". You might have flashed XT912 (Verizon cdma_spyder) with XT910 (umts_spyder) firmware.
However, if you are sure that you actually have an XT910, you will need to reflash cdrom partition image using fastboot.

As Vatazhka said there is no such thing Verizon XT910, but I when I got this phone, it's already on GSM.

You have damaged your cdrom partition. You need to reflash it via fastboot (that's what RSDlite does).
Please try the hsd poilet unbrick method hope it would work

This is probably stupid question.
How can I check my region?
Is it the baseband?
When still in ICS MIUI my baseband contains 10_4 sumthin I guess it's Asia coz I'm in Indonesia
After upgraded to liquidsmooth the baseband strangely changed into N_05.11.01.P
Is this the cause of those issues?
Although I flash with rsdlite with fastboot files that mention the baseband is 10_04 , but after done flashing the baseband still on N_05.11.01.P

how can I update my baseband?
Hello everyone.
I bought a japanese Xperia 1 III (Softbank version A101SO) with Android 12 and I've searched for the 13 update but it turns out Softbank didn't release Android 13 on this phone yet.
So I decided to flash the KDDI version to it (with newflasher) and it worked.
But the problem is I got a very weak signal, a battery drain and the 4G rarely appears (always H or H+)
I tried to come back to the old original firmware but the phone won't boot after the flashing process (rollback protection)
The phone has a locked bootloader and it says it can't be unlocked so I wonder if you have a solution for me because I lost all hope right know.
If I can just go back to its original firmware (Android 12 from Softbank) that's all that I need right know.
Thak you for your answers.
Unless you unlock your bootloader, otherwise, you cannot go back to Android 12 again. If your phone's config name 'Bootloader unlock allow' is No, then you have to stick around with KDDI Android 13 fw.

Thanks for your reply! I'll have to stick with it then...
But can I flash the Softbank modem to it to have a better signal coverage?
I think cross flashing is okay but you need to do some search to make sure you flash all needed files to prevent boot loop.

crossflashing works but the problem is the Signal and the battery drain.
is there a way to flash other modem files to the phone?
Try newflasher, you can search the forum for the guide.

Newflasher is the tool to flash the roms.
I know how to use it since I've crossflashed my Xperia 1 III with another region FW using it.
My question is: is there a way to flash different modem files (and other important files) to the phone with a different region rom to fix the signal and battery drain issues?

Yes just keep the .Sin files that you fish to flash and remove the rest from the rom folder. And make sure when prompted by Newflasher to "keep user data".

So I've successfully flashed the modem sin file but there's a problem with the camera.
It refuses to launch and the Telephoto lenses are moving all the time (with the noise of the lens moving).
But the signal is back at 4G.

I guess flashing it with other modem sin files don't resolve the issue.
I need to wait for the Softbank Android 13 (if it will be released one day...)
Thanks to you and people on this post, I've been able to flash fw 61.1.E.5.215 into my A101SO and fix mobile connection and camera by flash .sin file from A101SO android 12 fw. If you still struggle with the camera, let me know. I've seen improvement with battery life and mobile signal, the only let down is netflix wont install from playstore nor playback at full fidelity if I install with apk

Hi @Bachtran24 if i understood you correctly then you have installed a Dual XQ-BC72 to your single SIM A101so version and then flashed the modem files and it worked for you?.
Can you please exactly tell which modem files you flashed? in the ROM folder there are 3 modem files.sin.
When you flashed modem.sin filers which ROM folder did you use BC-72 or A101so.
I have the same issues i have updated to global Dual ROM and now my A101so is not getting any signals. looking for your help
