I have Galaxy 5.0 player (US version) running Eryigit-GB-2.3.6 ROM on it from last 6 months, While everything worked great during that time, i want to try one of the newer ROMs now, may be ICS if all the bugs have been fixed. Can anybody help me where to start now, I used Odin before, I have no idea about Heimdall..Can i still use Odin? also can anyone recommend me what ROM i should go for ? and what should be the correct steps to flash it again? do i need to backup the current ROM?
thanks in advance.

I'm in the same position as you. I know how to use CWM (I think), at least it worked for me before.
I would like to try out JackpotClavin's apparently awesome :good: new Kernel.
Should I wait for the PAC-Man version of iurnait or just flash jackpot's rom?
Lots of bugs are still being reported, so I'm wondering if it's already running stable enough for daily use.
And do I need to make a clean install if I install Jackpot's ROM now and later on want to switch to PAC-Man?
Thanks in advance!
I've been keeping with the Jellybean releases as they come, and would say it's definitely good enough for daily use. The only thing that doesn't work yet on 4.2.2 is taking pictures with the rear camera.
The speed and fluidity of the UI is definitely worth checking out and a lot of apps use the new framework. Overall, it just feels like a much more polished and intuitive experience.
If you are going from gingerbread to jellybean you have to wipe or you'll get some serious issues. coming from ice cream sandwich or 4.1 jellybean, you should be fine with just wiping /cache, /system, and the dalvik cache. coming from any other 4.2 rom, you're perfectly fine.

Okay, thanks. That sounds good.
Tomorrow I will probably try and flash Jackpot's Rom then.
As I am coming from Eryigit-GB-2.3.6 ROM I will have to do a full wipe first and then I am good to go flashing from CWM? Or do I have to install another Kernel first, and/or format everything?
Thanks for your help!
my problem is i do not have CWM installed. If i remember correctly i used SuperoneClick to root and Odin to put Gingerbread ROM with Entrophy512's Kernel.
Do i need to install CWM before i try another rom?
Looks like we still do not have any ICS/JB ROM with all bugs fixed????

It states here, that Entropy's kernel does in fact come with CWM. And if you're on the same version of Erygit's Rom as I am (3.5), then you should have an application called RebootMenu, where you can choose to reboot directly into recovery.
Weird
Okay now, I managed to flash it, wasn't as easy as I thought, though Lots of assert failed errors, google apps not installing, etc. but now everything is working fine!
i do have rebootmenu and i can reboot into CWM.i want to try Chips ROM.i think its very stable like my current one Eryigit
do i do this after copying rom on SD card???
Backup Existing ROM
Wipe Data and Cache
install from zip
reboot

I have the sultan kernel installed and its good though i don't overclock beyond 1.2 if i do i start to get force closes in apps. I haven't tried mercuis new kernel. Is there a kernal to get better battery life ?
we have both lowered in our kernels lcd screen voltage which greatly improves batterylife You can also lower cpu voltages but if your device turns off while overcloking that means your chip has poor quality

Well I'm looking for a kernel that has the 100 MHz and 200 MHz range included since all I pretty much do is listen to music. When I had stock rom, kernel, everything I had amazing battery life on both music playback and standby time. I just installed the the sultan kernel r4 and the lowest CPU speed is 400mhz. Wish the lowest speed was 100 MHz speed. is ever going to be at 100 MHz or at least 200mhz ?
Voltage difference is slight between 200mhz and 400mhz and 100mhz has equal to 200mhz 100 is totally useless unless you don't undervolt

100MHz and 200MHz were causing SODs so as a dirty fix KOala and I removed them from our kernels. However, the SODs might be fixed now so I'm going to test 100MHz and 200MHz again today
Also, 100MHz and 200MHz are pretty useless because they're too weak to do anything. When the screen is off the player sets the CPU to 800MHz so having 200MHz and 100MHz won't get you better battery life if you're listening to music while the screen is off.

Today a tried ogo2's beta3 ROM. In SetCPU I can't change the frequency. There are min 480-max 600 Mhz, if I change the value, nothing happens. That's wrong because it drains my battery.
Yeah, same problem here... such a pity because other than that its a great ROM!
Not really an 'issue' - the kernel isn't set up to allow overclocking, so why would it?
Not just overclocking. I can't go under 480 Mhz. That's a bigger problem for me.

I don't think the kernel allows you to change clock speeds from the MAX600 MIN480 HTC set as the default. Not an issue, but that feature will be added sometime (ogo2 said it would eventually I think)
OK, I thought that the default min clock speed is 245 Mhz.
Oh ok, didn't know it depended on the kernel, thanks.. This may be a totally noob question, but this is the Q&A section so, can I not just flash another kernel that does enable overclocking...?
Guys, cannot start neither beta3 nor beta4. When flash beta3 (through Clockworkmod 3), the system doesn't load, green 'HTC' letters tend to reboot. After beta4 installation the same screen, but static - without any reboots. I have S-ON. Wiping doesn't help.
Please, advise what to do.
Cheers!

I eventually answered my own question.. You can just flash another kernel.. Look under the Overclocking tutorial in the Dev section...
It's ok now, I am using B-ROM. In this I've got too much reboot, battery drain, GPS issues, etc. Maybe beta 5-6-7 will get a chance...

I'm using Blay0's ROM as well, haven't had any issues so far... are u doing a full wipe before you flash the ROM...?
If I installing a different ROM I always do a full wipe sure. I did not do full wipe, if I installing a newer version of a same ROM. Btw the most stable ROM is Blayo's, next Cyanogen, but there are no new sense...
I'm using Franco's Kernel v15 + ZRAM with Mik's CM7 6.5.2. At first it was a dream, 1352 points on quadrant and 58.5fps on neocore @480/729Mhz Smartass. Everything running smooth and really fast.
About 6 hours of intense testing some apps (many, in fact) started crashing for no reason. Mostly google apps like Calendar and even Market. But also some widgets and running services.
I reflashed everything, even re-formatted (and re-partitioned) my sdcard and everything was fine again but after a reboot to install google applications (gapps-gb-20110325-signed.zip) the crashes started again. And I was running w/o overclocking at this time.
Searching for some info on the issue I saw a post stating that v15 kernel is for FROYO only so it's not compatible with CM7 but Franco always said that his Kernel was compatible with CM7 and there's no such info coming from Franco himself so I want to be sure of it before flashing a Froyo ROM.
Any thoughts on this issue? Any help is appreciated.
Edit:
Maybe it's worth noting that my phone is a O1 p500h, apart from the 3.2mp camera I don't really know if there's other differences in hardware that may cause problems.
That h is ur problem I think
I really hope not. I've been using Franco Kernel + CM7 for many versions and never had any problems with it (well, aside CM7's known bugs).
I'm from Brazil and CM7 is the only ROM I know that has Brazilian Portuguese (pt-BR) language support. All other ROMs I tried are strictly european and only have support for Portugal's Portuguese (pt-PT), which is kinda different and "sounds" quite annoying at some times.
And while I feel quite confortable using english, it's not the same thing as your mother tongue.
Its weird some users reported this kind of stuff.
I think its safer to use dookmatt kernel than franco kernel
Could a theme cause this kind of instability? I just remembered that on both times the crashes started I was experimenting with a XperiaArc theme for CM7.
Are you using app2sd or data2sd? These may cause such conflicts at time.

Nope, but I have an Ext4 partition on my SD-Card so I get more "internal" memory for installing apps.
You need to use some external app/hack for what you have described, so, essentially the answer is yes, not no

I am facing certain problems like you after flashing devoid.franco+kernel V15+ ZRAM.
I had following issues for the past 15 days.
1. changed the stock ROM to devoid Franco + V14
I agree the performance of the phone increased. Did OC using Set CPU. Score over the Quadrant was never over 650, not an issue with this as long as i can feel the diff in the performance.
One major change i saw was - as you all know the SMSes get threaded with a particular contact (both recd and sent msgs.). In my case if i receive sms from TD-I-mint, the message was shown as received from TD-Reylon, similar with all the SMSes, the actual sender was never possible to know when you see the list of msgs. Only after you open the msgs then you could find out the sender.
this is continuing still with Kernel 15.
2. same situation after flashing V14.1, V14.2, V14.2.2.
3. with Kernel V 15 + devoid.francoROM with little change. I wiped everything, SD was partitioned and upgraded to EXT 4. Flashed new ROM (05-06-2011), rebooted, flashed Kernel V15, rebooted, flashed ZRAM, rebooted, but phone never came to life, had to remove the battery and reboot, same result. Then wiped cache and dev cache, then flashed ZRAM, the phone was breathing.
Then tried to flash the system apps downloaded from first post of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049518&page=1, the phone lost its life and had to re-do the whole process of flashing ROM....
With update of ROM + Kernel V15, i had to re-do the whole process for 5-6 times. I never had this problem with older kernels or flashing custom ROM.
One major issue is - msgs and other apps like TB (list of backups) some times display vertically. Today for the first time the SMS app was force closed.
Any-body facing issues like this or issues and you have the solution , I request you to post here.
I guess the best solution for me is to use the stock ROM with franco.kernel. This way I maintain my country's language (and, most important, GPS configuration) and still get some nice tweaks from Franco's.
By reading the comments on v15 kernel, it seems wise to wait for a new version before installing it. There are several users experiencing heavy battery drain. Or maybe install v14.2, but I don't have it anymore.
So, is it safe to use franco.kernel v14-v15 with LG stock ROM (mine came with v10A, android 2.2.1)? Or does it have any compatibility issues?
Thanks for your replies.

Yes it does. Am running stock 2.2.2 with Franco's kernel v15 and its smooth as butter.
Running 2.2.1 stock ROM + franco.kernel v15 for about 10 hours now, so far no significant change on battery use.
But I miss mik's ROM performance... FPS on neocore dropped from 57fps to 36.5fps. And my old score on quadrant was 1350 and now is 615.
Is there any improvements I can install on my stock ROM? JIT? HW accel? I really could use some more performance.

Wait for 2.3 to be released.
Hello all,
Last time there has been a proper thread with opinions for best ROM in terms of performance has been about an year ago... And the list by THeLogiC is severely outdated...
I've been using x10forever's slimbean custom OS, and it's not bad at all. Some really cool features not in the stock OS and the interface looks very nice. But even with about 50MB of free RAM all the time, I've been stricken with some bugs and crashes (unresponsive popup every time, firefox beta being slow as a snail, not being able to watch videos on any video app, force restarting when using torrenting apps, etc....). I've just about had it. I need a new ROM.
But I have no idea where to look. So I ask you guys.
From what I can tell, custom ROMs by these users tend to be the most popular now:
-x10forevers
-Scritch007
-Achotjan
-FeraVolt
But each of these users have more than one ROM... Which one is the fastest and the best, performance-wise?
I'm under the impression that that ROMs based on the latest android version (JB) is the fastest-- is this true?
Are oodie-based roms the best, or CM10, or slimbean, or paranoidandroid, etc.?
I'd rather have speed and no unresponsive/force closure of apps rather than fancy features.
I don't really use games. I use android for basic apps, internet, photo360 app, video watching, listening to internet radio...
Which one should I try?
Please post your opinions here, and update it from time to time for any newcomers. All the threads on the android development subforum make my head spin...
My vote goes to " alzbac's DonutHD 2.2.9 "
It is smooth ( no lag at all), fast, stable and battery friendly.
Try out my ROM in my signature below
most of gaming ROMs are good in speed and performance..
but i recommend the zetralab v3.3 rom since i find it very stable..
Thank you all.

If one considers 720p videos with AC3 audio (I have other phones with HDMI) as part of a performance package, then one can not go any further than stock GB 2.3.3 firmware derivatives. I am not aware of any ICS or JB ROM for the XPERIA X10i that support 2D HW acceleration for the Adreno 200.
I have .mkv 720p (H264,AC3) videos that playback well on the XPERIA X10 using modified GB 2.3.3 via BSPlayer or MX Player Pro.
I also play Standard Definition(SD) TV and/or recorded TV on my XPERIA X10i via my NAS and this also plays will, but again requires 2D HW acceleration.
And even when CM10 gives AnTuTu scores of over 4500 and high 2D and 3D scores, it's software encoded and not HD encoding which is what counts when playing back 720p videos.
So for me 2D HW acceleration is part of any overall performance consideration, but this may not be high on everyone's list.
I would suggest DonutHD(I use my own stripped down GB 2.3.3 ROM and XPERIA S apps/home launcher) with maybe DoomKernel V6 as a 'solid' package and potential for good battery life, but maybe not in the performance category in the extreme sense.

Yes you read correctly.
No Adreno 200 2D HW acceleration for videos and etc in anything other than GB 2.3.3 based ROMs or lower official Sony [Ericsson] builds.
That's what I believe to be the case due to the lack of source code for the Adreno 200 for ICS or JB builds.
I'd really love to be wrong and have a developer reply to my post and say the XPERIA X10i JB or ICS supports Adreno 200 2D HW acceleration.
Maybe one day. :fingers-crossed:

Now I installed DonutHD 2.9.9 with ferakernel, since it seems to be what people most recommended in the most recent posts. But when I used GB ferakernel v5.3, the phone doesn't load up, it boots but then only shows a dim black screen, so I guess it doesn't work...
Tried using doomkernel v06 not overclocked; this didn't work either, stuck at the doomkernel logo screen and nothing happens.
Can anyone help me do this? I don't know why it is not working... I never had this problem before.
I have unlocked bootloader.
try to wipe cache partition and dalvik cache
Of course, I did... I'm not a newbie. I have installed all sorts of ROMs before...
I did this:

-go into xrecovery by holding side volume button, wipe cache, full wipe, wipe delvik cache, then install wifi drivers for ferakernel
- reboot then go into xrecovery. install first .zip for DonutHD 2.9.9
-reboot again, install second .zip for Donut HD
And then I just get stuck with a dim black screen after ferakernel logo.... :crying:

I think it's the fastest out of all, but I'm already experiencing some lagging. It's just the least worst out of all the ROMs I've tried.
I think my phone has moods. Sometimes it's in a bad mood and doesn't work at all, and sometimes it works perfectly.
Hi! I'm new to the forums, and I was just wondering, is there an over clocking method made for this ROM, and are there any fully stable versions of it? I couldn't post in the topic itself as I am a new user and I spent quite a while looking through the posts hoping to look for an answer. If somebody knows of any of these two, please help! (I'm speaking for the latest CyanogenMod, the one with Jelly Bean 4.2)
No, no stable version of cm yet. There is release candidates but imo cm is still not stable for daily use. It's up to you to test it and see if it works for you as daily driver. It didn't for me.

And are all custom kernels supported by the same version (such as all custom kernels made for 4.2.2 will work with 4.2.2?)

I'd like to know how to oc my xt912 also... tried the kernel makes it unbearable slow with FC's and constant lag... tried out on buttered... avatar... liquid smooth...
Yeah same here. The fixes say to dlete any other CPU tweakers in the ROM, which is found in the Performance part of the CyanogenMod. Does anybody have any idea on how to delete/disable this part?

Okay I installed but in oder for it to work properly I have to disable the CPU controller built into CyanogenMod. Do you have any ides how to do that?

if u have put any tweaks just disable them in CM, that is all. for example if u have set any governor or scheduler on boot, just disable them
May I just verify... my steps...
Go into ss3.11...
-In ROM slot 1 I wipe system,fr, and wipe caches.
-delete ROM slot 1, recreate ROM 1
-wipe everything again
-flash buttered AOKP... wipe... gapps... wipe... kernel..
- reboot...
Is that correct..
In the event that it is, doing so make the device is not really functional at all... compared to stock and to AOKP with out the kernel... I thank you kindly for any input
Well its a hit and miss, sometimes the rom doesn't not work very well with the kernel and vice versa. You may check the jbx kernel thread and see what people think about it and get some input from there because I am not using jbx atm

Has anybody actually used Jbx Kernel on CyanogenMod and found that it worked well?
Can somebody explain to me the difference between raising your MPU OC (Live OC) and simply raising the CPU frequency? And which is better in which circumstances? (Like battery vs. performance)?
Hey everyone!
How's it going?
I recently flashed over the stable build for cyanogenmod 10.0 on my vibrant and that worked really well. I was shocked at how stable and smooth it was!
I saw that 10.1 was put out yesterday, so I flashed that but I'd been having some issues. The gapps zip didn't work all that well and I had to manually install some of the apps. No big deal.
However, I've been having issues with poweramp or apollo crashing out when I'm using the stock browser. I am, however, running juicedefender and autokiller to manage my RAM.
Any suggestions to free up some stuff? I'm really hoping to make this work because it works pretty awesome, but I can always drop down to 10.0 if it doesn't work out since I wasn't having any crashing issues.
In terms of flashing:
I flashed back to stock with ODIN, then installed CWM, then flashed 10.1, did a wipe, then installed gapps. Gapps didn't 'take', but I was able to take care of it through the play store.
Thanks for any help!
RTC.
I think back stock w Odin,in cwm reset data cache as normal ,but in advance format system,& fix permissions, install 10.1 & gapps again, maybe works,T959 have 390mb,custom roms JB have 180mb+80mb gapps+apps cache ect. Im install JB roms and free ram is 60mb-90mb eccept slimbean. Or try another jb kernel with custom features like semaphore, only issue is video camera not work in bigmem(406mb)
Good luck! Im on Trigger/overstock.

Yeah, I totally spaced out on the kernel. I just updated to the latest semaphore and am ready to go. Things are already MUCH faster.
I never really use the videocamera anyway, so it's not an issue.
Do you think Zram would help at all? Semaphore doesn't have any.
If I get a class 10 external sd card, is there any way to use some of that as ram? If we can do that, it'd breathe new life into the vibrant like WOAH.
Or is there any way to run some of the necessary apps on the external SD card instead of RAM?
Edit: Tried to OC to 110% and the phone started restarting so I disabled that. Now the phone shuts down when it sleeps and the power button doesn't wake it up. I have to pull the battery and restart it. Anyone know why?
Here's the semaphore kernel I flashed:Semaphore_JB_2.9.21v.zip

What is slimbean by the way? Different rom?
I noticed that there were semaphore kernels for -SV which I guess were for the slim roms?
