currently im using the note 2. I want to upgrade my contract with rogers! So now im going nuts! Cant decide between the htc one and the s4!
What I mostly do is browsing the web, texting, email, pictures. That's what I mainly do. And yes I watched all unboxing of both! I freaking cant decide. Most important to me is the keyboard while browsing or texting. My bb10 has by far the best keyboard. I do like the note 2 keyboard with the extra row of numbers.
You guys tested them and know more! Please help me deciding! The one should launch here soon in Canada.!! Witch and why? :highfive:

Do you want a device with premium quality that is built solid and has natural colors on the screen (like iPhone colors)? But don't mind the battery not being removable and no sd card? The HTC is for you.
Or do you want a light weight phone with a bigger display that is usually pretty easy to customize with removable battery and sd card slot but have more cartoonish colors on the display?
What won me over to HTC is the screen and build quality but it is different per person... The things you mentioned can be changed with a mod or app from the play store(go pro, chompsms, handsent, swiftkey etc). The only difference would be camera

Are you considering that either phone is going to feel small now that you've been using the note 2? I believe its gonna come down to personal preference . Both phones will do the things that you have mentioned and will do them very well just on a smaller screen.

I played with the phone for 30mins at the store. The keyboard impressed me with how quick it was and the swipe ability was flawless. Camera was very fast at shooting. The pics look real good and it also comes with a bunch of editing effects. Like any other phone it's not gonna take DSLR pictures but is gonna be very decent for FB and such..

Kk thanks. Is it really worth coming from a note 2? Does the keyboard has auto correct? I dont use swipe. Also not into using keyboeard apps.

The swype ability is already implemented in the stock keyboard. Its very useful for when your using one hand. And the auto correct woks like any other android keyboard. If it don't satisfy you I recommend perfect keyboard from the play store. It has the best auto correct I have seen on android. And a lot of customization like choosing from 5 different click sounds when typing.

So, I had the Note II for a little while, though went back to the S3; the Note's are just too big for me personally. Build quality, HTC One wins hands down. Camera, HTC One wins, I feel like the Samsung camera's over saturate the colors, and the exposure is a little off. Stock keyboard on the one is way better than the Note II. Screen, goes to HTC One hands down. Samsung screens over saturate and don't look like natural colors. Sound, goes to HTC One, both with headphones and the speakers on the phone. I honestly grew to love Sense 5 over Touchwiz. I am sick of Touchwiz. I have been with Samsung since the Galaxy S, I'm sick of plastic, and sick of Touchwiz.
Honestly, if I were you, get the HTC One. You won't miss the Note II, well, except for the screen. But the ppi more than makes up for it.

I played with it in stores, even the bloated AT&T model was extremely smooth. I've never felt a phone faster. My eyes couldn't see any flickers or frames lagging. Though, idk how HTC is with updates. Personally never owned one, only borrowed friends. If its not carrier branded I am sure you'll see good updates come reasonably quick. Though someone with more time with HTC devices may correct me.

HTC is just as bad as Samsung with updates.. Then the carrier takes their time with the update.
Don't expect updates to come quickly and you will be fine.

It's gonna be hard to go to the inevitable sgs3. I plan on keeping my note throughout though, as a Wi-Fi tablet/ in car media center
I don't even have mine yet and I agree. I played with it for 15 minutes or so yesterday, and now I can't wait to upgrade from my Infuse. And the size is so perfect. I know that the Note will only be able to be replaced by its successor when Samsung releases it. I hope they continue the series, as I will be a Note user for life if they continue it. Hell, I could even go for a slightly larger screen if they manage to figure out edge to edge displays that will fit in a similar sized package. Samsung has nailed the future of mobile devices with this one. Completely secured my loyalty to them through the Captivate, Infuse, and soon the Note. I can't get over how awesome of a device it is, even though I don't have one to call my own yet.

Just a few questions, what roms have bln support? Is there any cm9 rom variation that supports bln?
Also, what rom is giving decent benchmarks?
Is this device even recommended at this point or wait for the s3?
I believe Saurom has the bln support but is 2.3 I think. you can always stay stock and flash Da_G's kernal that has bln support. Thats my preference until ICS is out officially and is matured a little bit. I wouldnt trade my note for a 3s at all, but that all depends on person to person. Its huge and and fast enough. If i wanted a phone under 5 in, then i would get the s3 fo sho. Size and speed balance was my factor and im am super happy with it.
I suggest two weeks of dedicated arm exercises before trying to pick up a note. It's a beast.

I'm using the Collective's (now the Family) GB ROM...which does support BLN...or the kernel they use does. Not sure on the CM9 variation though. Like stated in an above post, I plan to stay with GB until the dust settles with ICS (dust for me is an OC kernel and the Family tweaking the hell out of it).
Benchmarks wise...no idea. Not really a benchmark kind of guy. If it feels fast and does what I need it to do, then I'm good.
Get the Note if you want a 5.3" screen and plan to use it like a tablet and not a phone. By phone, I mean just making voice calls and texting. This device can do so much more and has good hardware to boot. It may not have the S4 or Exynos processor (at least in the ATT version), but it still is up there with the big dogs. You really have to embrace what this device is truly capable of. I love my Note and have no intentions of going to another device...unless it's the Note2 or a badass device with a 5.3" display.
I am definitely a cm7 rom fan as that is what kind of rom variation I use on my old inspire. I just returned the one x because att will not allow you to unlock the bootloader so we can have dev support so I returned it. I have no patience for that.
So now the note I had when it came out but returned it as well because almost no dev support, and had an issue with my screen that was annoying..just problems from first production batches I guess.
Sure att knows me for returning phones if I'm not happy and I really don't care,or I care as much as they care for their customers
With all that being said I def am the type that should wait a few weeks and see what kind of dev support the device is getting as hey isn't that the reason we all come here sort of. I miss the screen size of the note, not gonna lie. I can only imagine custom roms have improved benchmarks, and there seems to be quite a few custom roms out now including a cm9.
So Im thinking of getting this or the sgs3 but by the time it reaches att and gets dev support, I can use this.
Opinions? Thanks

....to go from a DNA to a Note 2 and now possibly back to a DNA. I know certain users around here might drop their jaws by looking at this post based on my posting history, but I'm considering it.
I must confess, I'm a phone whore. I get bored pretty easily and always like to try new phones, etc. I had a S3 before my original DNA purchase and then I returned that for a Note 2. But now I'm kind of bored with the Note 2. I think since I had the S3 before it, I'm kind of bored with Touchwiz.
There is a guy from my local Craigslist who is willing to do a trade of the phones and he will throw $50 on top. My phone and his are both in mint condition with all of the original accessories, etc. What do you guys think of the deal?
Also, before I consider it any further, I have a few questions:
1. He said the new OTA is installed and it's not rooted. From the quick reading here, there currently isn't a root method for the new OTA. Will there be any time soon?
2. I've seen both sides of this, but will Sense 5 be a realistic possibility? Whether official or unofficial, it doesn't matter to me.
3. Do any of the current custom ROM's make the home screen scrolling any faster? This is one of the biggest ones for me. I just didn't like the slow animations while scrolling the home screens. And please refrain from saying "just install Nova". I know that would help, but I'm talking about Sense.
I need to make a decision by tomorrow, so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Convince me! LOL.
Thanks!

I prefer the size, feel, appearance and screen type. I have not used an LCD in awhile but I really like it at this point.
The note 2 felt like I had a mini tablet in my pocket and this feels like a normal phone.
The grippy material HTC used for the back of the phone makes it very easy to hold in one hand and the shiny plastic on the Note 2 made it difficult.
The shiny appearance of the note 2 was very flashy and it did look enormous compared to most phones where the DNA comes across as a normal ish phone size.
While the battery life on the note 2 was better than the DNA, I've been getting an average of 15-20 hrs per charge with what I would describe as moderately heavy usage.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk 2
Theres nothing better with the DNA. Screen is very subjective (LCD vs amoled). Size is also, depends on person( 1 handed use with note 2/no skinny jeans here) .
I believe with the newest its there is not a way to root/soff yet. And hopefully the devs will provide sense 5. From what I hear Verizon isn't the quickest at releasing updates but that's why we have xda.
Scrolling has gotten better if comparing to intial release.
Personally my gadget addiction needed to try something else. Im currently revisiting the dna for the moment and no real complaints.
My current issue is with development(many slightly tweaked stock roms). Waiting to see what happens after HTC one release.
Samsung devices out of the box are slightly better. You can see all the little things they added when switching to HTC.
Verizon needs to stop touching things. Everything they added is extremely annoying. I'm not extremely hype about sense 5, all I see is a rss reader. Its very clean looking though.

The dna is gsm unlocked straight from Verizon. It means you can pop an at&t(or any other gsm carrier) sim in it and it will work. It has no relation to bootloader unlocking.

I think he would like it unlocked so he can mod it if he wants to, and he probably will.
Be sure you're okay with sense because you'll be using stock wayyyy more than you are used to on other phones. That's the biggest thing you'll notice - while there is good dev support, its nothing compared to n2/gs3 support. You're options will be limited and hence, you'll be using sense (or sense based roms) a whole lot. I switched back for the same reason, touchwiz gets boring quick. I am 90% confident that we'll be getting sense 5.0 so that's good. It may not be for another 2-3 months though Others and yourself are correct in saying that until superCID gets worked out for 2.x.x updates, you (we) are SOL and stuck with stock until further implementation. Because of this, again, hope you're okay with stock
Hello,
I really like the Note 2, I've gone back to it two times already, once from a Iphone 5, and the 2nd from a Lumia 920. The lumia 920 was great for photos, but the windows UI was extremely boring. I hardly use the S-pen as well, I just like the big screen. But I do have a small wifi problem with my note 2 right now, in which a new replacement is coming in soon. Any Note 2 users out there planning to ditch and get the HTC One?

Over the past year I have carried every major new phone in AT&Ts lineup and this is the first one I have been truly excited about. I haven't been able to put it down. The Note 2 was significantly better than the Note, but can't hold up the jock strap of the One. Screen size is the only this the Note has going for it, the screen resolution on the One is ridiculous and more than makes up for the size.
Quality over size. And yes, that is what she said.

Yes but I've never heard a girl say something is too big before lol.
How are the included headphones? I currently have the soul by Ludacris sl99 earbuds.

The headphones are okay. The info about them being unbranded beats I don't think is the case. I have a pair of beats and they sound much better that the stock pair that came with the one. They did attempt to make them look like beats tho.

I'm thinking about doing it. Played with it in the at&t store. Wife watched me play with it but likes the bigger one though she does like the black ones too.

i can't ditch the Note 2. to date, it's the best android phone/device i've used. it's a great work phone (e.g, i use the S-Pen quite often, sign lots of documents, draw on other documents) and for my usage pattern, battery life is superb. that said, i cannot pass up the HTC One! i'm wondering how well i'll adjust to a slightly smaller screen...
dont do it u going to miss amazing screen amazing battery life removal sdcard and unlock bootloader if you flash a lot of rom

Anyone here with a HTC one who previously owned a Samsung Galaxy phone?
I've been thinking about the HTC One and would like to know your thoughts.
Moved to proper section, please read and respect the rules before posting.
Thanks,
It's much faster but the buttons are in the stupidest places possible.

I moved from the HTC Aria to the Samsung Captivate, S2, and S3. I love the HTC One. There are little things like zoom that I don't like, but overall I'm pleased.
To be honest, I probably would have went to the S4, but the physical home button on the S3 turned me away.
They are both great phones and you should be happy either way you go.

I had a galaxy s2 and and galaxy note 1. I loved them both and they did their job nicely.... But.... I just never like the build quality, plastic just doesn't do it for me. I found myself going back to my old HTC inspire all the time just because I like the feel of the aluminium. I caught back and forth between the s4 and the one. I choose the one for a few reasons: the body is awesome, the screen is insane, feels amazing in your hand. I hate buttons, I lactually like the HTC setup of home and back only. The s4 cool features I realized I would never use, only to show off with haha. And most of all for me, the camera on the one in low light is freaking amazing!! I live were there's no sun, so this is a big deal for me. Hope this helps, and go ahead and ask any questions or concerns, I am well experienced in both phones.

Lol I believe everyone had to go through the tough decision between the HTC One and the S4. I sure did...I stayed at BestBuy for about an Hour before I walked out with the One. The phone is incredibly smooth out of the box, very snappy and the screen is beautiful (accurate). The battery is good but it is no Note 2. I guess HTC kept a 2300mAh battery to keep the phone thin. You won't feel any creeks when you hold or squeeze the device unlike the S4. No doubts at all. I also came from the Old Galaxy Note and now, I'm missing the large display. I don't like how the Note 3 looks so I'm waiting for the HTC One Max!

Thank you all! Im glad you shared your thoughts.
The One is the best aesthetically IMHO. Tired of the plastic galaxy phones. Just wasnt sure about battery and GUI.

I like sense a lot better than touchwiz. Battery is pretty good. I prefer the one over the s4.

I just ordered a black HTC One. :fingers-crossed:
Was debating between S4 and HTC One. Wanted something different for a changed, currently using an AT&T Galaxy SII I-777.
HTC One for $120 instead of S4's $150 upgrade price.

It looks better, it feels better, it's more responsive, the screen looks better to me, the audio is better, camera is good(not quite as good as s4). Sense is better to me than tw.
Play with them both. I'd be surprised if you like the s4 better. They're both good phones though. I just think the one is better.

How about flashing roms? The s4 has some issues with mf3 firmware. only root now, no custom recovery.

Our recoveries are all fine. The only issue is if you update your hboot you might have trouble with s-off. But right now there are ways around it. All is good over here and we can use all the international roms as well.

Thanks @xcrazydx. I appreciate your comments. You make a good case for the one. Still loving the rocket though so I'm not sure what I'm going to do. Might just keep it until it dies.

No problem dude. I am liking the one. The volume and power buttons are in a stupid place but I'm used to it now. I still love the skyrocket as well. It is a great phone.

I had the One a couple months ago for a while, have an S4 now. If the two phones could procreate and make one phone with the best features from both, it would be the best. Loved the audio and metal frame of the One, but no removable battery and no MicroSD. I think the S4 runs a lot more smoothly, and has more flexibility with the SD, but rear speaker makes sound quallity ridiculous. Also my biggest complaint right now with Samsung is the MF3 update that locked down the bootloader (aka no custom ROMs). HTC gives you instructions on their website to unlock the bootloader (unless something has changed since I had my One). Albeit I'm still preferring the S4.

I'm not sure how you figure the s4 is smoother. It's definitely got lag and it's choppy. The one does not lag and it's not choppy. I've had both and the one is far better in transitions and feel.
You are right about not having removable battery or sd card. I do miss those from my galaxy devices. That and the button placement are my only complaints with the one.

The One feels much smoother than the S4. Not saying the S4 is slow...but it doesn't feel as snappy as the One. Maybe because all those touchwiz features are memory hoggers.

I found the OS sluggish on the One. I do have to specify I never had the stock rom though. When I got the phone it had been rooted and flashed, although I had installed a rom that was supposedly "stock" with just upgraded kernel. Maybe I didn't get the same experience as you because of that.
Also I forgot to mention the lack of a home button. Ridiculous. I tried the logo2home mod but that's still IMO a major design flaw of the One.
