Hello
I'm trying to use wifi tether on my SE Xperia Neo V with Suave kernel and Ultimate HD 3.0.2.
Once setup is done and hotspot activated, I can connect my laptop and tablet to the wifi but there's no internet connection.
I've tried various combination of kernel and custom ROM (all based on sony's ROM) but ended up with the same result.
However, it did work with Cyanogenmod back when I was using it.
So, I'm guessing it might be because of sony's ROM, could anyone confirm that ?
Is there a fix ?
Does anyone managed to make it work ? with what kernel and what ROM ?
Any help would be appreciated.
thx
Also, it works on Cyanogenmod Nightly 10...

strange.. with stock Rom could you tether?

Yes, as far as I remember. But I then changed for cyanogenmod, then to another provider that didn't support tethering.
I just noticed that now that I changed for another provider...
anyone ?!

Yes, you'll get your 10 posts...
OK, I've tested many ROMs and none of the Sony .587 based ROM worked (the roms are working but not the tethering). Not with wifi nor bluetooth.
I've tried many things and only cyanogenmod works on that departement.
It has to be system related because all the apps I've tried (barnacle and such) didn't work either and some even caused the phone to reboot.
Also barnacle says WIFI: could not set ad-hoc mode of wlan0: Device ore resource busy
anyone ?
OK, I've found a solution.
After many tests and research, it seems to be specific to SFR french carrier and android 4.X (no wonder it was working for nearly everybody but me...).
The thread with the answer is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544063
Now, it needs to be done once the hotspot is activated and it will keep working as long as you don't reboot your device.
Would there be a way to "integrate" that in the ROM to make it automatique somehow ?
Anyone ?
Ok, anyone knows how to make the iptables parameters permanent in android ?

My Atrix is SIM unlocked, rooted, bootloader unlocked and Gingerbread installed.
What to do now ? Just to use it as a smartphone only ?
Jocking. But suggestions appreciated.
- Is it really worth to try an other ROM ?
- Is there a possibility to connect a hard disk via USB port ?
- Is there a dual boot possibility to boot additional an other Linux operating system ?
- Is there any application to remote control my Atrix from my Linux (Ubuntu) laptop as a remote computer with desktop (homescreen etc.) of my Atrix ?
( Attention not talking about remot control of computer from the smartphone)
- How could a store (move) my
text massages (Gingerbread text messages)
emails (k9 mail)
videos (Gingerbread video camera)
fotos (camera zoom FX)
bookmarks, etc ... my profile of Firefox mobile
on my external SD card ?
Hi Folks ! My questions were not jocking, but probably too many of them.
So maybe one only:
Is it worth to try an other ROM when your phone is already unlocked and rooted with the original one ?
Until you've used cyanogenmod everything else is just.....lowbrow. Download the latest stable release of CM7 from the development forums. And you'll never go back to stock again.

Hi Phalanx7621 !
I have heard of cyanogenmod ROMs, but to my knowledge ( http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices ) there isn't an official one for the Atrix up to now, where everything (fingerprint etc.) is running fine.
Anyway, as I never used a different ROM, I have quite some difficulties to understand what are the benefits for doing like this. For sure there are, otherwise nobody would do. Maybe the ones of you who changed the ROM could share some facts with us the still non changed ones.
Maybe I am wrong, but if I compare this action with my ThinkPads. Should be comparable, as the Atrix is a kind of mini laptop and even running with Linux (Android). Same on my ThinkPads, they are real laptops and running Linux as well (Ubuntu). - Sorry can not compare this with Windows.-
To update the Android version from V 2.2 Froyo to Gingerbread V 2.3 is like an update from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10. Usually some improvements, bug fixes and updates. Fine.
To change the ROM. Isn't like to change the distribution on the laptop ? For example to change from Ubuntu 10.04 to Linux Mint 11. Both are on the same basic. More or less the only difference is the look & feel. All applications are the same. And even Ubuntu you can make it look like Mint or vice versa. No really need to change the distribution.
Maybe this is the same with changing the ROM. The look & feel.
But what about
- boot time ? Really different with different ROM ?
- the speed ? Really different with different ROM ? But when ? To open Firefox for example ?
- the used RAM by the operation system ? Any differences ?

There is a quasi-official ROM. Actually, it IS Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 with some fixes to get it running on out Atrix. The fingerprint does not work because only Motorola ROMS have both the kernel drivers and the libraries to make it working. Fortunately, the Atrix Cyanogenmod team is working on this and eventually they will find a way to make it working.
In any case, I find that the stock rom and the stock radio still has the best battery life (in my case, still Froyo). Maybe not the best performances, but I am pretty sure about the battery life.
Update: CM7 Atrix team have the permissions to build their nightly releases on Cyanogenmod build server. I believe that they are getting fully recognized by Cyanogenmod. Therefore, I would say that they are pretty much official.
What ICS roms meet the following conditions?
confirmed working vpn support with tun.ko compiled & built in so that vpnc, openvpn and the like will work.
Working encryption.
I've tried the stock Samsung ROM with Chainfire's rooted kernel, as well as Spike's Pure 7.1 & Resurrection Remix 1.0. The encryption works on all three but the VPN doesn't.
I've already tried HellcatDroid's full device encryption app but I ran into two problems. Battery life (I blame GB, not HellCarDroid's app) and it would periodically tell me it had received a decrypt command from the exchange server. I've talked with the SysAdmin & he's assured me that that's not coming from the server, but that's what was happening.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer to part 1 of my question is on the Tun.ko Installer page.

Hello, I have a rooted xperia mini pro SK17i and I'm stuck to the CyanogenMod ROM 7.2.0 which seems to be the only one to work with my device.
I have written to you in the past to ask: "Why the wifi stops working if I try to install the cm-9.0.0, or 9.1.0-cm, or 10 cm-.........? ?? "
but no one has ever found a solution or the solution just did not work ...
I know from what I see in the forums that mine is a very common problem.
Now, years later, I ask again the same thing: "What should I do to install a more recent rom without losing the wifi?"

wifi is defend by your kernel install.. try use another kernel like cm10 or cm11 and make full wipe n install your rom again.. or switch to another kernel and rom..
When I installed the cm-9.0.0 I used its kernel and I did the same with the 9.1 and the 10 ... did not work ..
But maybe I did not understand. You say, for example, if I install the 9.1 should I try Kernell of 10? Does it make sense?
Please........ :crying:
Does WiFi work on Stock ICS 0.587 firmware ?
I am ashamed but I do not know what it is ...
I'm no expert, I have not yet figured out a lot of things ... I'm still learning ...
I followed a guide to root my device and install the cyanogen rom.
If I look in the device info read:
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-FXP root @ ubuntu # 6
Android version: 2.3.7
This is all I know ...
Before roottare the phone I upgraded the original operating system of the phone and the wifi stopped working.
Precisely for this reason I decided to install the CyanogenMod ROM: to try to recover the wifi.
The cm 7.2.0 did it. The newer versions like 9, 9.1 did not work ....
My question is .... why??? it is obvious that it is not a hardware problem ...Because if it were so it would not work even with cm 7.2.0 ...
I'd like to update my device to the latest stable CyanogenMod rom for my device which is 9.1 ..
But I can not because the wifi stops working ... Heeeeelp!!

i think you ALLWAYS forget to flah the needed kernel. (& allways have this old GB kernel) so only wifi works with this.
you should make sure you following the install EXACTLY.
also cm 9.1 is old like hell. this is also no stable release. at least i wouldnt call it like that.
Look for LX (Legacy xperia) which provides cm10.1 , 10.1 (jb) & 11 (kitkat) this is far more stable. also many bugs fixed there.
cm 9(.1) is abdonned long time
First of all .. Thank you so much for your help.
Ok .. I'll try .. I'm just worried because in thr LegacyXperia site I see a lot of bugs in the Working / not working lists..

ok good luck this time all works incl. wifi (should work 100% if doing all right)
i think the best is to test a rom 1st so you can say how it fits your usage . just a few tips:
-use minimal gapps after flashing rom
-LX 10.1 has a release candidatefrom march this year its a pretty stable daily driver. dont use the 10.2 release theres nothing better..
-maybe also you can test cm11 if want, but keep in mind 19/3 is the last PMEM build which is based on old kernel, will probably deliver the stablest experience. IMO the latest release is also very good but this contains some bug like the ANDROID_OS wakeclock (need power on phone on charger to avoid this) & its still in development (so its more for dev users)
for the buglist:
CM10.1:
- maps flickering its true but fixed in CM11
- wifi gets drops sometimes .. but it work at all
- camera is not good quality/buggy bcuz of driver lacks (also no 720p video)
CM11:
- sometimes wifi a lil bit buggy but its minimal. works like a charm for me
- 720p video is working here
BOTH:
-sometimes bluetooth battery drain after using it (need reboot to fix) i not face this is issue when i send something to friend.... (works normal..)
- NO FM radio, HDMI port will not work (if you have one) & ANT+ (no drivers)
good luck for you
Yesterday I installed the CM11 and ... it works!!!!
The wifi works! :good:and I like the rom.:good::good: ... so ... thanks a lot bejunk!!!! thanks thanks a lot!!!!! You are a great!!

np bro im happy you have now good rom & working wifi
just 1 thing if you use the latest version (02/07) it has a bug that you get android os battery drain. you can solve this by:
-power off phone
-plug in into charger & wait till you see the battery logo
-power on . done
Thanks again! The only problems with this rom are:
- the phone takes a long time to boot. Almost two minutes ... every time ..
- When the device starts up many icons disappear and others are in different positions ... I do not know why ...
Is there a way to fix these problems? Maybe I did something wrong during the installation ...

There's a Q&A section for that ROM. Anyway, long boot time should be fixed in the upcoming release. The simplest way to fix disappearing icons problem is to install another launcher. Hope I've helped.
Hello there..!!
I just got a XT1521, as a secondary device. Its currently on stock Android 6.0 with baseband M8916_2020629.41.03.21.51R SURNIA_EMEA_DSDS_CUST
I want to make it just like the Pixel. I do know where to get the required files, and don't need any help regarding that.
All I wanna know is :-
1. What's the procedure to unlock bootloader on this device? Unlocked successfully
2. Which recovery should I use? I used Squid2's TWRP v3.0.2-r1
3. Which ROM can be used as a daily driver? (need 7.0+ to get Google Assistant working). My preferences are good battery life (if not extreme) but the performance should be smooth without any lags, unlike the stock M. Also, wifi, OTG support and other features should be working properly.
Flash Seraph08's CM14.1, its totally smooth with wifi, otg and everything working. Also, I've managed to install Google Assistant successfully
4. What's this adoptable storage thing that people are having problem with..?
Didn't faced this problem myself. Maybe because Im not using ext sd card.
5. Should I flash a custom kernel too? If yes, which one and why?
Didn't found any need to do so, stock CM kernel works just fine for me.
Thanks to you for reading through all of this and please be kind enough to answer. :silly:

First of all, thanks bro for the reply.
Have you tried the CypherOS 3.1.3?? That seems good too but is having wifi problem, though in the latest version only.
Everything works fine in the CM14.1 you suggested, right? Even the wifi / tethering, VoLTE and OTG..?
VOLTE is still not available in any ROMs as far as i know, and for everything else works also i had tried cypheros 3.1.3 but i had some issue with that lyk the music would play on loudspeaker even if my headphones were connected(it also showed in the status bar , the headset icon after i connected my headphones) so yes i found cm14.1 better than cypheros in terms of performance

Thanks mate..!! I appreciate your reply. BTW, stock Marshmallow does support VoLTE, but since its my secondary device, I can live without that.
Yeah stock mm firmware supports VOLTE but then my phone would lag a lot on stock, so it's really difficult to stay on stock and that on jio half the calls wouldn't be placed due to interconnectivity issues, so i used stock for hardly 2-3 days.
As you know in the title of this thread, I, like many people using Marshmallow-based ROMs for G7102, am having some problem with the regularly dropping issue of Wi-Fi. Checking all the info and logs of the Wi-Fi, I notice some very strange behavior
1/ In DHCP mode: Scan constantly even when connected to a network, after few scanning, the phone started to disconnect and begin re-handshake with the network
2/ In Static mode: After changing to the Static mode with an appropriate profile (tested profile on another device), the phone connected to that Wi-Fi then said that there is no connection (even the profile is correct and tested), after that disconnect and re-connect constantly, turn into Wi-loop
All of this happened even when the phone is in onscreen, sleep happened to be a little bit more intense with the DHCP mode problem. Wi-Fi, even in an intense usage, will drop. That's really a nightmare for a normal user, let alone an MOBA gamer and streaming-enthusiast. This happened to me with all Marshmallow for G7102 ROM (XOSP, AOSP, CM) - now I'm using XOSP.
I hope that we could find a solution to this problem or, at least, discuss this problem together.
Btw, I found someone said that Rio Kernel should fix the problem, but I don't see the link to the kernel. Can anyone upload it here for me to test it?

I can't talk for sure that the problem lie on the kernel (cuz I also knew that Rio kernel just run for older Android version, but some of the post's replies talk about it like a cure for the problem)
But I have a theory that the problem related to the IP mechanism, cause based on the inconstant behavior of WiFi (Static and DHCP problem).
Have any idea?
