[Q] Help With Permanent Screen Lock or Possible Battery Short - AT&T LG Optimus G

I woke up this morning, phone worked fine. Used it throughout the day, and then come about an hour ago, the screen will not turn on, nor respond to being plugged into the charger, whether USB through the PC or wall charger.
I know my battery was rather high, so it isn't dead. I had a friend call me and she informed me that my phone rang normally, then went to voicemail, but my phone didn't ring, nor vibrate, nor even light up. I can't tell if it's stuck locked or if the battery got knocked loose somehow or something else internal.
I haven't dropped it, there's no water damage, nothing of note that I'd think would cause this.
Is there any further troubleshooting one could suggest I do before I crack and get it replaced through ATT?

Sounds like BSoD (black screen of death). Try holding power button down for 15 seconds, release, and repeat.

That just happened to me this morning. I was at 90% the screen shut off and no response since. I tried the power button for 15 seconds then again nothing. So I proceeded to take the back cover off and do a battery pull still nothing. Any help would be great this is my only device and warranty department is not an option.

I had a similar issue after using a wonky charger. It bricked the phone. But sending it in to LG was no problem, and after a week without it, I get it back tomorrow.

Phone died! No charging light!

I know I've read it once before somewhere on the Internet. Well it happened to me.
My first EVO was returned because the light leak finally got to me. I too was part of the group who had the big sticker on the box. Other than that the phone was perfect.
The second EVO was pretty much perfect. I had 1 system reboot a day or so into owning it. Figured it was nothing. Less than a week in, I went to charge the phone and the phone restarted. Didn't know what to think. Unplugged it and played with it a little. Plugged it in again and it restarted again. Now I was perplexed. Once it restarted, I unplugged it and plugged it in to see what would happen. It just shut down. No shutdown animation. Just went black. No charging light or anything came on. Won't power up and won't accept a charge from any charger. Now I have a new replacement but I figured I'd share my experience.

Had to this happen to me. Left the phone alone for 20 mins, even turned on a fan to cool the phone. Starting charging.

Wasn't so lucky. Left it over night and still nothing.

Had the same thing happen to me...all you have to do is hold down the power button for 10 seconds and wait for the buttons on the bottom to flash and then the phone should restart.
What's the "sticker on the box" issue?
Happened to me too...started up google latitude on the phone then all the sudden it went black and no calls went through, even though it rang. I was able to turn it on 30 min later, but after I held the power button down for like half a minute.

Negative. Tried that too. Was tempted to throw it in the freezer too. Someone who had a similar issue said the phone came alive after that.
The phone was completely non responsive.

I think some members mentioned that there were different batches. May be a coincidence but some of the phones that were reporting problems came with the larger sticker seal on the phones cardboard box.

i picked up my phone from best buy on 5/24 like 2 or 3 days into owning it i had my phone reboot randomly 1x. after the reboot it looked fine. 10 min after that it was non responsive and getting hot on the back. nothing i could do would reset it. not even holding the power button down. the row of buttons would flash but no reboot. i then put it on the charger no charge light came on and nothing whatsoever happened. i figured i had a phone that was DOA. after 20 or 30 minutes i pulled the phone off the charger it booted up and i have not had a problem to this day. My phone is not rooted and i am not doing anything crazy with it at this point. i Do have what appears to be a larger sticker on my box. Another problem i had before this was people said my voice faded in and out during calls. i tried everything. finally blowing long and hard into the microphone hole seems to have resolved the issue. just putting my experiences out there. hopefully this was an isolated incident and i will have no further issues. but i will not hold my breath.

[Q] Phone turned off, won't turn on:

All:
Tonight my 4GLTE was plugged into it's charging cord and was at about 95% battery. I received a phone call, picked up the phone and pushed "answer". When I did the phone turned off and it won't turn back on. I've tried the "on & down volume" many times and nothing will happen. When I plug the power cord in the charging light isn't coming on.
I have had no problems with the phone. I'm on the Tranquility ROM and everything has been perfect. When I went through the S-off process back in Dec. the phone "bricked", it acted exactly like the phone is now, will not turn on, no lights come on, nothing. The great people at Dirty Racun walked me step by step through their procedure to unbrick the phone and it started up and has been perfect from Dec. til tonight.
I'm baffled and wish like hell this phone had a battery I could pull. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
thanks,
DC
I take it the capacitive lights don't light up when you hold the power button down for several seconds?
Leave it plugged in overnight and try to power it on in the morning.

I know is very frustating cause It's happened to me as well.
I did some searching and found some tips. Nothing solid.
Leave the phone charging even though the led doesn't turn one. Sometimes for me it will revive after a while being plugged.
Other is to hold the power button for a very long time. 1-2 minutes and hope it reboots.

Curious, but were you S-off, and if so, did you use Dirty Racun?
Also, did you have any luck resurrecting your phone?

Nothing lights up, that's why I described it as being dead. I'm not a novice with these phones as far as rooting and installing ROMs etc. One item I left out last night is that in the last few weeks I've had to "move" the micro usb connector around to get the charge light to come on. It would always light up and charge but had probably gotten worse, not better. Also I have my Evo4G (which I just activated so I have a phone) and with this charge cord I also have to move it around to get it to activate the charging light. I'm going to buy a fresh micro usb cord this morning in the hope that the new cord will make a difference.
I'm really not optimistic that a new cord will change anything. I declined to buy the insurance for the phone when I got it in Dec. I;ve had bad experiences with Sprint and their cost to repair the Evo4G even with the insurance. I think I'm going to install Unix on my netbook again and try the procedure that Dirty Racun walked me through when the phone "bricked" last Dec. They brought it back to life for me although this time I'm afraid it has something to do with the usb port causing the phone to shut off and die. As I said last night, the phone was charged to 95% when the call came in and I picked the phone up and it suddenly went black.
I love this phone and having to go back to the Evo4G is a real step backwards, plus I've got lots of data on the internal SD card of the LTE that I need. I'm in pulling my hair out mode now....thanks for the suggestions, if anyone thinks of anything else please let me know.

Went through this a few days ago. Battery was at 40% and i was playing CSR Racing from the market. Anyways, my phone got super hot so i ended the game and went back to my home screen....few seconds later screen went off and phone was unresponsive. Nothing i did could make it turn on again tried for a few hours. My sister has a evo lte as well so i took apart our phones and switched her battery in place of mine and voila it booted up. Didn't expect the battery to just go out like that.

That's interesting, my battery has been excellent. I do remember a few weeks ago it getting really hot while charging but it's been fine ever since. I've got the phone apart now. I needed to replace the glass screen and bought, what I thought, were replacement parts for the lcd-glass screen. I've just found out from a video that the lcd and glass screen come together as one part. I don't know if I can take the broken one off and install the new glass screen or if I have to buy the lcd and glass. I'm ticked off because the ebay seller claimed this is all I needed to replace a cracked screen OR an unresponsive LCD touchscreen. I'm glad I didn't pay much for the glass.
Thanks for the info about replacing the battery.
DC
Update: I talked with a Sprint rep at a corporate store yesterday and he told me to bring the LTE in and he was certain HTC would fix/replace it under the 12 month warranty as long as there was no physical damage "not turning on could be blamed for". I told him damage didn't cause it to suddenly go black while plugged in at 95% charge when a call came in.
I'll have to replace my screen before taking it in although the truth is my screen had a crack in it for 2 months before this happened and had nothing to do with the phone bricking itself suddenly.
Any updates?
My wife's phone had this happen at a ridiculously inconvenient time.
Here's what to try:
1. Pseudo-Battery-Pull: Hold power button for 15 seconds, this will force the phone to shut down (if it works). Try powering back up. If nothing, then:
2. Hold Volume Up + Volume Down + Power for 2 MINUTES, and then release. That should reset the battery charge logic. (Note: this will only work at all if the phone is truly powered off) If that doesn't work:
3. Disassemble the phone, disconnect the battery. Wait 20 seconds and then reconnect the battery, and reassemble the phone.
Step 3 worked for me. Hope this helps somebody!
Thanks,
Josh

[Q] Rezound dead?

Hello!
Earlier tonight I received a text message and then my phone died - I knew the battery was nearly dead.
When I plugged it in, nothing happened - no orange LED like usual.
I let it sit for a while and still nothing.
Eventually I pulled the battery and put it back in and still won't power on.
Pulled the battery again (left it out), left the back cover off, and then plugged in the power.
After about 2 seconds the orange LED comes on for about 4 seconds and then turns off <---I've not seen any other posts mention this.
The phone will not boot still though - tried holding down power for 60 seconds, and even tried in conjunction with volume up and volume down.
The screen remains black, no vibration, no HTC logo .. nothing.
My wife has the same phone, so I put her battery in mine and it still will not boot.
My phone is NOT rooted or modified in any way (using stock VzW rom)
The screen is cracked but it's been that way for months and I've had an Otterbox on it ever since (go figure .. should have had one before it got broken). It's been working fine. It has not gotten wet today, or been sat on, or dropped or even looked at funny.
The phone is out of warranty and I do not have VzW accidental coverage.
Are there any more tricks to try, or should I go to the store tomorrow?
Thanks!
I am going to plug it into the computer and see if ADB will see it, but my assumption is no.
I'm thinking maybe the processor died... ???
I know if a PC processor dies then nothing happens when trying to boot .. no post beep or video.

Try charging the battery on your wifes phone then turning yours on and see if it works if the processors dead like you assume then well R.I.P Rezzy if you call verizon they will tell you to do a factory reset from the recovery maybe you could try that

[Q] Phone won't turn on (black screen) but it vibrates once every 34 seconds

I'm completely at a loss here. I was running a 4.3 rom for the past week or two with no issues. Pulled my phone out of my pocket 30 min ago, hit the power button and the screen wouldn't light up. I tried it again and still no go. I tried swiping to unlock, even with the black screen and i felt it vibrate.
Ever since then my phone is non responsive. I can't get it to boot, can't hard reset it, nothing. The vibrates stop when I'm holding down power and down volume but that's about it. I timed the constant vibrates and they happen every 34 seconds according to the Win8 clock (which i've heard in inaccurate).
I'm gonna let the battery drain and hope that it will boot back up after it dies...but until then, any ideas?
Try plugging it into your computer and see what comes up. Which 4.3 ROM were you on?

That's the first thing I tried. I get nothing when i plug it into my comp. Nothing pops up in device manager. The comp doesn't detect it at all.
And I was running the 8/23 release of carbon 4.3 and I didn't have one problem with it until this happened :\
EDIT: The phone's battery finally ran out. It stopped vibrating and after a bit i plugged it in. After a few min it just starting doing it again.
I disassembled the phone and removed the battery for awhile hoping it would somehow help. Didn't do anything. It showed the flashing charge light (like when it's really low) for maybe a minute then it stop lighting up at all. Sometimes if i leave it unplugged for a bit and plug it back in it will flash the light again. That's about all I'm getting out of it now.
I'm thinking something failed internally. It happened while it was on and I was using it so there's no possibility that it was from a flash or anything like that.
Took my phone to the sprint store. The tech wasn't sure either but he thought it might be the screen that died. The vibrating could be the phone trying to boot then realizing there's no screen. They took it apart to check for moisture/damage and said I'm good to go for the $50 replacement.
So my new Evo will be here Tuesday.

did you resolved it i'm having same had same issue as you mine is htc sensation but think is the same thing ive replacet the digitizer some day ago and it was working very good untill it start to vibrate and than died, now it flashes an orange light when i try to charge and after a while stops but i cant power it on nothing hapens when i press power button
Did you resolve the issue?
Did you ever resolve this issue? My Evo LTE started doing the exact same thing this evening and all of the Sprint stores are closed until tomorrow. I figure it's something internal that died and I can't see what it's trying to do... I guess you just got the replacement and didn't ever get it resolved with that particular phone?

This exact thing happened to me about a month ago. Whats happening is your battery is basically dead/at 0% or 1%. When you try and charge it the phone gets hot so it's not gonna charge.
What i did was literally put the phone on ice. You gotta get a bowl big enough to put a bunch of ice in, then put some kind of layer over that. Like a bag or foil. Something to keep your phone from getting wet. Now sit your phone on top of the ice and plug it into the charger. The phone is gonna slow charge and it'll take a couple hours to charge 4 or 5%. Wait 3 hours while keeping it on ice/charging it. Then take it off the charger and it should turn on. Now put it back on the charger and it'll charge normally. Idk how much of this made sense to you, but this worked for me after trying many other things.
Thank you so much. you have helped revive a dead phone. I followed your instructions to the letter and after three and a half hours found the phone to have charged to 60%.
The ice really worked. The heat wasn't allowing it to charge.

I'm glad yours worked out but my case is a little different. One night I was playing games for hours and hours and while I had the charger connected so it wont die on me and when I started to notice that it's getting pretty hot, I put it down and its still charging and let it charge overnight. When I woke up the phone won't turn on anymore. When I hold the power for a long time it would start blinking but the screen won't turn on or anything and when I let go of the power button it will stop blinking, power + volume up or down combinations has not effect or whatsoever.
So I decided to connect it to my laptop thinking that maybe it got brick and I'll restore with LGNPST but it won't even recognize the phone, no matter what button combinations I make. So I was thinking maybe the battery was bad so I bought a new battery, removed the screws &cover but when I installed the new battery the damn thing still won't turn on. So now I'm thinking maybe it's the charging port, I have replaced the charging/mic module as well and went through all the trouble of disassembling the phone BUT IT STILL WON'T TURN ON!
I don't know if this method will work but it won't hurt I guess but considering I have replaced the battery already and the phone had already cooled-down since it's been days that I can't turn it on. ANYONE OUT THERE CAN SHED SOME LIGHT PLEASE!
farewell LOG
well for trying almost everything even to the point of replacing parts I guess it's time for me to say goodbye to my beloved LG Optimus G. It's sad coz this phone is pretty powerful and good looking too, I dont even think I've unlocked the full potential of this phone but it served pretty damn well and unfortunately I think it's out of warranty already since I've had it for almost 2 years now.
So Sayunara LGOG!

I could probably help with your problem too if it's not too late. This same thing happened to my mom's phone(She has the LG Optimus G as well) My first guess was to replace her motherboard. I ordered her another optimus g from EBay that had a cracked screen and cracked back for $40(make sure it's an unlocked phone). The internal hardware was all in working order. I simply replaced the motherboard in hers with the one from Ebay, and it worked. If you haven't gotten rid of the phone yet you could try this. I found a teardown guide on youtube that made it really easy to remember where to disconnect and reconnect everything to the motherboard. The only downside to this is it's basically a new phone and anything not stored on your sd card will be gone. It's like a factory reset.
hey mate, wow I didnt think anyone would reply to my post anymore.. thanks for replying, anyway no I havent gotten rid of it yet though I already got a Galaxy S5 if I can fix it soon I can still return the S5 coz right now I'm not happy with it coz of the locked bootloader.
I was actually thinking of doing that since I've already gone through all troubles of replacing the mic/charging port module so why not just continue experimenting on it. I will follow your advice but do you know anywhere or anyone else I can find just like the one you got?
Your advice is greatly appreciated, thanks
