Hi,
I have an issue and cant seem to find anything on the forums.
I use Linux ubuntu and when I connect via my USB dock I can see the folders on my external storage but cant access them.
Its a 32GB card formatted to FAT 32. When I take the card out of the phone and connect directly via SD card slot it works no problem.
I have spoken to somone about this and they think that when I rooted the device as I did not put in a password this is why I cant see whats in the folders. Its something to do with security does anyone know if that is correct?
Thanks
Mathew
mm tried:
run "fdisk -l" command. Here you'll see the USB and it's path.
Create and directory name /mnt/usb/ then use the command
"mount -t ext3 /dev/sda1 /mnt/usb" and then, "cd /mnt/usb"
?
That does not work
If I re rooted the device when I re root will it allow my to put a password on it? Which would mean each time I connect my via USB would my Ubuntu machine ask for the password and give me access to the files?
trahedy... phone don`t want to flash firmwares... Odin always stuck and heimdall too... WTF ?! what l need to do now?
Does anyone one have any idea do I just need to reroot my phone?

Hi, people...
Just wondering if there is a way out of my situation, last night I installed the latest recovery image (RA-hero-v1.5.3.1), prior to that I put the latest Villian Rom on to update, but I think I messed things up, with some of the new menus in the Recovery rom as I accidently hits a few things :-(
Messages I'm getting are on almost every option I try is : E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0 (no such file or directory)
and
E:Can't mount SDCARD:/nandroid/
If I try any other options aswell I get "Error: Run 'bart' via adb" which is no good when I get the adb messages as for some reason my windows 7 pc has stopped detecting the phone in adb mode?!
The normal Hero bootloader get's detected fine in windows, is there anything I can do here to restore the system. I think some messages flashed by saying missing image! Which don't sound good.
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
if you have access to fastboot as you say, I'm sure you could fastboot recovery (just in case there's some weird issue there), then format the SD card and restore from a nandroid backup on your PC (I hope you took a copy of the backup on a PC).
Other than that, you might need to wait on someone like kendong2 to spread his words of wisdom here, as he seems good at solving stuff like this.

Thanks for the advice, my heart started pounding very hard when you mentioned about the nandroid backup being backed up! Luckily, I done an SD card backup a few weeks ago and found the folder, phew.
Sorry for being a little foolish, but when you say do a fastboot recovery how is this done in the bootloader, i'll search google in the mean time. To format my sd card im going to have to get usb adapter I presume as you can't format the SD card from bootloader? Correct me if im wrong.

Thanks for the reply. Nothing comes up at all anymore, I can't see any changes when I plug in the device under recovery mode, and even when selecting the USB-MS mode, nothing is detected or shown on the USB devices list. However, when I first tried originally it came up with the device not recognised.
Got to get myself a SD USB adapter first to format the card.... so I'll give that a try.
Ok, got myself a USB adapter to format SD Card, i've put my backup of everying back on. I now understand about how to use the fastboot command via command prompt etc....
Where do I go from here? What commands to type etc.. I've looked at the options but cannot seem to use flashall command succesfully.
The device is listed when typing fastboot devices, so I take it that's one good thing for a start!
Again, thanks for any help with this.
Just another question does the SD card have to be formatted specially? Ie partitioned etc... perhaps this is why I can't get it mounted under the recovery options. Because I accidently done one of the partion options and from then on I had all the problems.....
All,
I've tried everything and I cannot get my PC's to recognise my GS2.
It's not even constant, sometimes I connect it via USB to the PC and it comes up as unrecongised device, other times it will detect as a camera as GT-i9100 (regardless of it I select MTP)... I've reinstalled Kiers I don't know how many times and have even manually installed the drivers but still no luck.
So I gave up with that as I only want to connect to Odin to get rid of this crap software. So I downloaded the CWM root package onto my SD Card and booted into recovery, went to apply the zip and it says it cannot mount /sdcard as not such directory exists?!?! Now I don't have an external SD Card but the .zip file is located on the internal storage in /sdcard/Downloads.
I have a Mac at home that allowed a connection into Kiers first time to update to stock ICS - should I just abandon this trying to connect to Windows and try and find an alternative to Odin for Mac?
Thanks for any help at all.
Dan.
but the .zip file is located on the internal storage in /sdcard/Downloads.
NO try copy pasting update zip file on root of SD card then try....
Edit : this rooting methed you can only try on ICS vesrions
Thanks ZACQ8.
I just thought I'd try another USB cable as a last shot, and OMG it started installing the drivers Still failed to install the Mobile MTP Device but it's getting there...
You have to use the same USB port when you connect your SGSII.
I noticed that if I plugged it into another port the phone would come up as unrecognised - this was all tested on a few PCs when the phone was on GB and connecting as an external hard drive.
I haven't tested if the problem still exists with ICS, as it do 'external hard drive'.
Seems like it was the cable all along...
Phone now recognised in Odin and Device Manager.
Pile of crap.
Hi guys!
is it possible to put files to internal storage when in bootloader/fastboot mode?
My post is probably very very similar to this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1542980, but I'm not sure if it will be the same as Xperia S.
I was about to flash custom ROM, but then I forgot to transfer ftf file into SD card, and recovery mount SD card option is broken, and I'm stuck in Sony boot loop.
Suggestions?
i thought xperia s doesn't have sd card, it's just built in 32gb memory.
i'm totally new to this phone, so don't quote me...
but maybe if the file needs to be on the internal storage there might be adb/fastboot commands where you can push the file in bootloader mode?
That's what I meant. Internal storage,
Do you know what commands used to push it?
I have the same prob XPS.. pls help me out guys...
Solved, I flashed DoomKernel instead of recovery-nozomi.
recovery-nozomi, I got stuck in Sony Bootloop.
i don't really know, i'm totally new to this phone.
on my old htc wildfire s you cold use hboot via usb and use adb from a windows command prompt
it was something like for example
adb push filename.ext /data/filename.etc
but again, i don't know if this is the correct method for this phone, or where you'd need to "push" the fiile, to /system? to /data? or some other location?
does it even need to be on the phone? or isn't there some tool that you can flash the update from your pc?
Hello, I am having a problem getting my galaxy tab 10.1 to recognize a usb flash drive I have connected via an adapter. I know it works because it detected a wireless mouse I connected to it, and it shows up when I use dmesg or lsusb in the terminal. The thing is that none of the file explorers I've used (Es, Astro) are able to detect the files I have on it. The usb drive is formatted to fat32; would it be more likely to detect it if I formatted it to ext3 or ext4?
Maybe you need to use this?

You must pull the sdcard from the phone, insert it into the mac, then use Disk Utility. You can't format it from the Mac when it's installed in your phone.
