Forgive me, as I'm new to this.
I have a stock Bell Galaxy SII that I'm quite happy with, but I would like it unlocked. Bell wants $75 to unlock it (I'm 2/3 of the way through my contract) and vomited a little at that cost.
I've done some reading through the forums, but not only if it mostly over my head, but it seems the unlocking requires rooting the phone. My quesitons then....
-is it possible to unlock the phone while still in stock software?
-if not, what is the simplest way to root but keep everything pretty much as is?
I appreciate any help, advice, guidance, or links where the questions have already been answered. I've looked through quite a bit, but find it difficult reading with so many references and acronyms I'm uninformed of. I'm very cautious about bricking my phone, but a couple of upcoming trips to the US have me looking at unlocking.
There is no way to unlock without rooting.
You can however unroot after unlocking.
Which firmware are u on? And what model do u have?

The initial download was broken, but found one later in the thread. When rebooting, no CWM.zip found as it says in the instructions... I'll read through the thread in more detail.

It works in JB also.
CWM was pulled because of risk of eMMC Brickbug in 4.0.4 versions. You can download a CWM for you device from ROM manager website (given in the thread).
Or if its any comfort, use Philz safe CWM.

You need to read a lot more mate.
Here's a good place to start.
Read this too.
BTW, stock recovery is a special mode in ur phone, while Odin is a software that runs on Windows.

Hi, I recently updated my Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100 from Ice Cream Sandwich (4.0.4) to Jelly Bean (4.1.2). I have been using the new OS version for a while now and don't like some of the changes that Samsung have implemented. So I was wondering if there is a way of downgrading the OS back to ICS 4.0.4 (the latest official release). Is there a way to select a custom version in Kies and simply update that way? Or am I stuck with Jelly Bean and will just have to adjust to the changes
