Hi All,
I want to know what issues people might have if you are unlocking bootloader on a HTC phone, especially with One ?? I have already used Motorola unlocked it on day 1, and the only issue with it was the obvious warranty voiding. But is there anything else to worry about when someone is unlocking his HTC ?

What Kind of issues? Like it not booting correctly? So far, on HTC phones I haven't heard anything about any bad effects of unlocked bootloaders. I unlocked mine through HTC Dev, then went S-Off through FacePalm on my Evo LTE. I'm also part of a forum group thing with 500 members, and none of them have had issues either. As long as you unlock through HTC Dev, you will be fine. For S-Off, there's always a risk and it's a bit trickier.

Thank you for the reply. I meant issues like sending in for warranty, or flashing back to stock and stuff like that. With Motorola, if you flashed the stock on unlocked phone in certain way, it removes the unlocked text on bootup so that we can send it in for repairs or replacement without issues.

After a little bit (I'm not sure if there is one yet for the One, but there probably is) there's the stock software you can flash, stock recovery, and you can flash a modified bootloader to make it look like it's stock. RegawMOD develops the modified bootloaders, and that would be a good place to check, as he will probably update it soon.

Hey guys,
Please help me and sign this petition to help our vivid brothers (almost same phone as amaze 4g) They have a locked bootloader and that means no roms :O I hope we can help them out becuase i would be mad if that happened to us. Htc's ceo lied and said no more locked bootloaders back in may well the vivid has a locked bootloader. Lets please support our android brothers . http://www.groubal.com/htc-vivid-has-locked-bootloader-contrary-to-statements-by-the-company/#sign

It probably won't happen, but a unlocked s-on bootloader will let you load a custom recovery, a custom kernel, and a custom system.img, the only thing it won't let you do? flash a radio or another bootloader, both of those things have more potential to brick the phone if done incorrectly, custom roms will work fine on a s-on unlocked bootloader, which can already be done for the Amaze through HTCDev. You're right, it's not the PERFECT solution, but still very grateful that we have a solution at all. Motorola said they would be doing unlockable bootloaders, and NEVER followed through whatsoever.
(I signed the petition, but you guys are going to the wrong people, HTC will NEVER unlock the bootloader without AT&T's permission, they are the one's you should be going to, notice that HTC unlocks the bootloaders on both Sprint and T-mobile phones)

Agreed
I signed becaused I understand the frustration without unlock bootloader and would like to show support to fellow members but I think Vivid bros should forward their petition to ATT instead of HTC - Seems like Peter Chou were force to broke his promise/stateman due to ATT being a big customer
THanks guys its worth a try though
I signed and commented hope this works

Its a bit late but I signed. I don't think some of the comments I see will help HTC unlock the bootloader for HTC Vivid...

If the AT&T deal goes through, this could be the future for TMo customers when they go for a new phone. While the Justice dept is against the acquisition, there is recent history of the courts overruling them unfortunately.
If that happens. I might be living with this phone for a very long time. It works on AT&T data frequencies, unlike the G2X, which was represented by TMO as doing so initially (unless a baseband would activate them - which is still a possibility I have heard).
Petition signed. I recently decided to switch from T-Mobile to AT&T when Amazon was having the any phone for a penny sale and ordered the white Vivid. It will be on my doorstep today but after a little research I am very disappointed and have decided I will keep my Amaze and use it on AT&T and sell my Vivid. What a shame, if we wanted to be locked down we'd just buy iPhones like the rest of world.
I'm definitely down, but it really is a shame that the big corp. still go against open development so hard.
signed it just now
Signed. I don't think this will help though. The evil at&t doesn't want us to have choices.

You guys need to tell everyone if they use the HTC unlock then HTC has their phone info any can deny warranty repairs to their phones.

woah, wait.....Im not new to flashing and modding, but I am very new to the HTC scene. Do we individually have to unlock the bootloader ourselves? Or is it something the devs do? If we (invidually) dont unlock today do you think that HTC will stop letting us tomorrow? I just dont want to kill my phone.

We individually unlock it. It's super easy. The instructions gives you screen shots of what to do. I just unlocked mine. Took about 5-10 minutes. I'm sure it will be available tomorrow but I didn't waste any time.
Tough to tell whether HTC did this on purpose or not. They very well might pull it later after they realize it/Verizon *****es them out.
I would at least go get the unlock token now, even if you don't want to use it right now.
Jason
I'll just wait for the devs to set it up where I don't have to give my phone info to vzw and htc. Might need my warranty some day.

Click on Unlock Bootloader. Follow directions. If you don't want to install the token, stop at the point that it emails you the token.

This htcdev.com unlock will allow you to flash custom ROMs, kernels, and recoveries. Sadly radios, hboot/bootloader, and I believe splash screens are a no go. Also, some things must be flashed via fastboot as opposed to recovery. (ie kernels) Considering this phone has some new security tricks not seen before its an ok trade while you wait for s-off IMO. I don't know if it will bring s-off any closer but I doubt it. I can't speak to the warranty situation but I would advise reading all the terms and conditions before proceeding. However consider this.....rooting your phone technically voids your warranty....

Yes perm root is as easy as flashing a recovery then using the recovery to flash the su and busybox binary. Then install superuser from the market and bam permanent root. (or just wait till someone makes a flashable package that will do all that for you.)

My girlfriend's ego 3d, which we purchased on release day, and used revolutionary for s-off, recently was damaged from liquid. The touchscreen did not register correctly any longer.
She took it into a local sprint store today, and a rep threatened to void her warranty because it was rooted. I didn't have a chance to unroot.
They ended up replacing the screen, and in the process, flashed her phone up to Hboot 1.5 and locked status. However, the phone is still s-off...
What are my options to reroot? HTC unlock, since it is s-off, or just load recovery from fastboot?
Thank you in advance.

Since it's still S-off, all you need to do is flash a recovery, then flash a ROM. If you want to keep it stock rom but rooted, then once you flash recovery, just find an old SU.zip to flash. You can even downgrade your bootloader back to 1.4 if you wanted to.
Count your blessings that the assholes at sprint didn't revert your Evo3D to S-ON. Just flash a recovery in hboot and then flash a ROM from recovery. You're good to go.
Thank you! I had her on various roms, like Olympus and warm (warm was my fav), but I have never seen the battery life like the new HTC update and dual core script..

Depends on the demand. Short of being able to flash radios/better hide the fact that we've tampered with the device, there isn't anything we're not able to flash with the unlock method available through HTCDev website.

Also as long as it's possible to revert to totally stock and flash kernels the demand will be pretty low. Usually only people who want to go back to an older firmware will want s off

A method for S-off on the HTC One X (Evita) took nearly a year.
As others have said, for the average XDA member S-off isn't really needed since we can do everything except change CID and downgrade HBoot.
Hello everyone, I am getting ready to buy a used m8 and am not 100% sure if it is stock. I am not familiar with HTC. They sent me a screen shot. The only thing I can tell is that it doesn't have the 20mb update yet. They said the only thing is rooted. I am wanted to know if its stock. I'd rather its stock and then I'll play with it. Thanks for your help.
Sent from my LG-D950 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The screen shot isn't going to tell you anything. Those can be hacked to say whatever.
The phone isn't stock if its been rooted. The phone can never be truly returned to stock once its rooted. The bootloader has been unlocked (which HTC has a record of) unless the user happened to make firewater temp root work, and s-off without unlocking the bootloader, which I think is very unlikely.
A screenshot of the bootloader screen would be more useful, as it would tell you s-off or s-on, if the bootloader is locked, unlocked, relocked, and other details which are harder to change than within the OS.
Even then, if the bootloader says s-on, you would never know if the previous owner did s-off then returned to s-on, which still throws a security flag that can't be changed.
Or are you asking if its been returned to stock? Any phone can easily be returned to stock, now that the AT&T RUU is available.
Thanks for the reply. I realize that once it rooted its not full stock. I was curious if its on stock rom. I wont know more until till I physically see the phone. I've had samsung, motorola, and lg so I'm not familiar with HTC. I'm trying to gather info to know what I'm looking for.

The photo the seller sent doesn't have the right info to tell if its on the stock ROM. You want software number (which isn't on the photo), not build number.
But as I said, it doesn't matter. The phone is easily returned to the stock ROM with the RUU, or other means.
Okay thanks.
