[Q] Is my phone bricked? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was running AOKP m1 on my GT-i9100 (rooted with CWM Recovery).
Phone ran out of juice last night now won't boot, and recovery seems corrupted (won't boot into that now).
When I go into ODIN MODE the phone appears in ODIN ok, but fails to upload anything.
Do I need to get a USB jig to resolve this?

I suggest you first plug it in for an hour and then try booting into recovery.
If that doesn't help, take out the battery for two minutes and try again.
If u can get into recovery after this, do a full wipe (cache, dalvik and data) and reboot.
USB Jig just puts ur phone in Download mode mate. Since u already can get into that mode, just flashing via Odin will do.

I can't boot into recovery, I get the message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
I did wipe all cache when I could previously access recovery, but phone would not boot and since then will not boot recovery.
When I have tried to flash in ODIN no files seem to be transferred.

That is what I am trying to do, but that is not working. I have downloaded official firmware, put it in the "PDA" part and it fails every time.

Stuff to try when Odin flash fails:
*Must run Odin as administrator in Windows.
*Ensure Kies & it's processes aren't running in Windows task manager. Kill them if they are.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (search on here/Google)
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again.
*Run Windows Update.
And if all this fails, try a different PC. If it won't work first time on the other PC, go thru the above steps with that PC.

Tried all that, still no joy. Perhaps it needs re-partitioning? Presume I need a .PIT file for that and it is more risky?

Don't mess with PIT files mate. Unless you have no other option left!
Are you sure you have the correct firmware for ur device? Have u checked if the file is corrupted or broken?
Please post the Odin log here.

The firmware I am trying to put on is what I got from Sammobile, the latest JB from Samsung. I had flashed it previously in Mobile Odin and it worked just fine. It just seems that nothing is actually being transferred to the device, no bar or anything.

Where is the log file? I don't see anything in the Odin directory...
Also, how long should flashing from Odin take? I don't have a benchmark to compare. The ROMs I have been using have been flashed through recovery without issue up to now. I haven't had the need to use Odin before.

You can see the log in lower left pane in odin, inside a white box.
Usually it takes around 2-3 minutes to flash a firmware.

I haven't but I can try. I am also looking to get some more firmware, any idea where to look? I have looked on here but the only links seems to use a dodgy download manager, and the links don't work anyway.
I thought perhaps just try to get a kernel flashed then recovery, then maybe flash a ROM but I can't find a kernel.
I have seen suggestions reflashing the bootloader, but I cannot find bootloaders either.

Must be the same reason ur flashing failed before. Use a genuine cable and see.
Flashing with odin is sort of like a snake charmer playing with a cobra. U usually escape without any problems, but you do get bitten at times!

Not sure what else to try now TBH, I can't get anything to flash over regardless of what I do.
I read that after corruption the drives can become R/O but not sure if this is the case or how to fix.

NAND stuffed. Motherboard replacement.
Edit - Although....Maybe try a JTAG repairer first. You might get lucky.

SGS2 Charge & SGS2 GT-I9100 freeze

Just to say at start i have searched EVERYWHERE but haven't seen anyone with exact problem.
I have added many contacts after the backup before rooting.
I have SGS2 (International, no brand) and it freezes at charging screen (with the battery when you put the cable in when it's off) and can boot in Download Mode. Now i know that i could wipe everything from my phone at i could get it back but i really need my contacts i have at the phone.
The phone is rooted and it suddenly didn't go further after closing Opera with exit (took a bit to close everytime) tried rebooting but can't get other than the screen saying "Samsung GALAXY S II GT-I9100". I tried to get in Clock Work Recovery and it was successful and i think it was a half coincidence, because i can't get it working now.
I tried changing the battery and it had no effect i already saved a no wipe custom rom ready to be loaded from SD-card.
So i think the keys to get to CW Recovery is the last chance. Could you give me all possible ones because i haven't used it for a while.
Please help me XDA

4.0.4 or 4.0.4 can't remember which one.
Try flashing Siyah v5.0.1 kernel (if ur sure ur on ICS and not JB) via Odin. See if you can get into CWM after that.

Could be Odin connectivity issues.
Try using a different cable, USB port or computer. Kill all Kies processes. Run Odin as administrator.

U need the USB drivers for Odin to work. You get the drivers either by installing Kies or by installing the drivers themselves.
If you uninstall Kies, then you must either re-install it or the drivers.
If u have Kies, you must make sure all Kies related processes are killed in the Task manager.

I tried flashing the kernel and it now showed the "KERNEL" on the first block but it failed. And now i can't boot my phone. Is it now officially bricked? It does however recharge the battery with usb-cable and it gets a little hot after a while.
I think the bootloader is corrupted. You can repair it with a "usb jig or usb jtag".
Try this (download mode):
Try to get to download mode via pressing power+down+homekey. Download a official firmware and flash it via odin.

i search the forum and likely everyone were solved it by using recovery mode...
but the problem are i cant access to recovery mode and i can access to download mode only...
any advice for me to solve this??
As for solving, simply flash a stock firmware using Odin.
But first why not try taking out the battery for a few minutes, reinsert and try to enter recovery again?

Far more phones get bricked via Kies/OTA updates than via Odin. We just don't tend to hear about the former on here because it happens to 'ordinary users'.
If you want it done in 5 minutes & without dramas, use Odin.

Yes, but the main problem with Kies is it's unpredictable. Sometimes, u don't get updates, sometimes it won't connect and (like in my case) it can mess up ur phone too!
Here is an interesting thread:

From what it seems, it looks like u have no option other than Odin. You could try re-installing Kies, rebooting ur phone and computer, or even doing a factory reset.

Odin is Samsung software. Kies is also Samsung software. Kies is a piece of s#!t.
Odin works just fine for most people almost all of the time if you make sure you know what you're doing before you use it - make sure you're using a PC with reliable USB ports, make sure whatever it is you're about to flash isn't corrupted, only flash stuff for your model phone. If you're careful/use common sense, Odin works fine. 99.9999% of problems with Odin are caused by something the user has/hasn't done, I've only ever seen <10 people who bricked their phone using Odin who were 'unlucky' in the 18 mths I've been here (out of many thousands).

It depends on what goes wrong.
