Going to be in the Philippines next week and I've pre-ordered a local SIM. I have an unlock code from ATT as well as have International Roaming enabled on my current account.
ATT said all I have to do is enter the code when I turn on my phone with the new SIM installed. Now ... the code, was that tied to the original ATT ROM? Because if it is, I can't see how the phone will accept a code that was wiped out with a flash?

Unless you ran a sim unlocker, the code is good no matter what rom you are using.
And unless you are planning on using att in the Philippines, get rid of that international roaming feature, you are just wasting money.
here's how it works: when you put in a sim card other than AT&T, the phone will ask for the network unlocking code regardless of the ROM...so if you have the code got from AT&T you're sorted.
as for the int'l roaming on your acc, not needed as the previous fella said.
hope that sorts you out
Thanks guys, sounds good! Apparently int'l roaming isn't something that they charge for according to the att rep I just spoke with.
No... but if you land in the Phillipines with that ATT SIM in the phone and you start roaming, even a incoming call that you DONT answer or a voicemail notification gets billed!! I know TMobile does ! Dont ask me how
Hi everybody,
I'm going to be visiting Switzerland in a couple of weeks. T-Mobile's roaming rate on voice calls alone is crazy (I have no idea what they'd charge for data usage, and I'm afraid to look!) Because of this, I don't intend to use my T-Mobile SIM card while I'm there.
Does anybody have any experience with unlocking the Vibrant and using it in Switzerland, or some other European country? Are there pre-paid SIM cards that will also allow me to use data services? Are they pretty expensive, or inexpensive?
If anybody could recommend a specific pre-paid SIM carrier or has done this before, I'd really appreciate your insights.

I don't have any answers to your questions, but have you checked whether T-Mo will charge for incoming calls when roaming? I haven't done it in years, but when I was roaming in Asia a few years back the incoming calls weren't billed at all, so i just texted my wife to call me and all was good.
I saw an app on here and it's in the marketplace for sim unlocking on the phone without having to request the code from tmo..think it was simply called unlock vibrant. it's a 4 step process and worked for me no problems.

It worked great!
Thanks to mmelo76 for moving my question - sorry for not getting it in the right place to begin with.
I wanted to follow up here and say that I went ahead and got my Vibrant unlocked via the market application "Galaxy_S Unlock" by Helroz.
I tested with an AT&T SIM from a friend's phone and verified that the unlock worked.
Then when I got to Switzerland (the Zurich airport), I found a Swisscom store in the adjacent train station shopping area. I bought an "Easy BeFree" SIM (http://www.swisscom.com/res/mobile/tarife/flat/easy-befree/index.htm) for 20 CHF, which also included 20 CHF of credit... so the SIM was basically free.
Popped it in to my phone and started it up and it worked immediately from the start. The only thing I had to do was re-enter my Google account password. I think the password might be encrypted against something in the SIM, so swapping the SIM forces you to re-enter it.
Anyway, I ran around Switzerland for a week and had data and voice coverage. If I were to go again, that's definitely the way to go.
my thunderbolt similar just went bad when switching between my thunderbolt and incredible. I did not hit *228 on my thunderbolt which makes your similar bad. the tech support Guy said once you activate another phone, the similar goes bad. is this true? if not l, what's the easiest method to do this?
What's a similar

My guess is he means Sim [card] and it's autocorrecting to similar
To OP: You're stuck, at least as it comes to your 'bolt, for the time being. You CAN activate another phone on your plan (like your inc) but the only phone on VZW that uses a sim right now is the 'bolt, so you will have to take it in and get a new SIM card, or have VZW send you one.
I don't have personal experience, as I haven't switched back from the 'bolt to a non-LTE phone yet.
So with the new SIM card, it is my understanding there is no need for activation anymore, correct? I had to have my first 'bolt replaced due to mic issue, and when I popped the SIM in the new phone, it just worked. I have never activated it. Any info if this is the case with all phones that will have a SIM. If it is I am so totally getting an Xperia play, if it has a SIM slot.

Right - the SIMs, as they stand, are interchangeable between 'bolts. No more activation or other things, but it won't work with just any phone - it has to be a Verizon network phone because the tech for 4G is different (it's not like when people could swap sims between ATT and TMo phones) - so, right now, since the Thunderbolt is the only 4G phone on Verizon, swapping SIMs will only work with other Thunderbolts
VZW explained it to me this way .... when going from a 4G LTE device to another 4G LTE device there is no activating anymore, you simply drop in your sim card. But, if you activate a non 4G LTE phone on your account that will deactivate your sim card and will require you to return to the store for a new sim card. This was in response to me asking them if I could switch between my Droid and Bolt.
For once VZW was very helpful in store. I normally don't go to the brick and mortars but being new to 4G I had questions I needed answerd.
The SIM doesn't get "destroyed" and can be re-used.. but... you have to call Customer Service for them to enter the SIM number...
here is what I did...
When I first got my TB, VZW was having network issues, and it took well over an hour for my "activate device" request to "clear the switch" and the TB to become active.
Having intermittent data issues over the next week, I decided to swap back to my INC, wait, and later return to the TB... I thought maybe due to the network issues, the TB didn't get all its programming info "over the air" or something.
When trying to return to the TB via the Activate Device link on the My Account web site, after entering the MEID/IMEI... I got prompted about needing a SIM... so I enter the SIM number and got...
"The SIM associated with the SIM ID you entered cannot be activated at this time. Please contact Customer Service at 800-922-0204 for assistance."
CS rep couldn't help... she had me on hold while she got Tech Support...
They had to manually add the SIM number back on the account.
Moral of the story... if you activate an LTE device and remove it from your account to use a 3G device.. you'll have to call back in and manually switch devices if you want to go back to using the 4G device.

The real reason you can't put your SIM in an ATT or Tmo phone would be the tech. ATT and Tmo use the GSM/UMTS/HSPA (3GPP) family for "2G"/"3G"/"3.5G" where as Verizon uses CDMAone/CDMA2000/EVDO (3GPP2). SIM cards are only on Verizon now that they're using LTE which is the next step in the 3GPP family but not quite 4G. Any phone made for AT&T or Tmobile is a "GSM" phone using the 3GPP family radios which are incompatible with Verizon's 3GPP2 network (towers). On top of that, they all use different frequencies. That's why unlocked iPhones can only use "2G" on Tmobile.

Were they able to re-add your sim to the account? I had a Thunderbolt which I traded for another phone, and switched to a couple of 3G phones in the interim. The Verizon store person told me my sim would be good for 90 days if I got another Thunderbolt. So I did, popped in the sim, and called support to switch over from my Fascinate to the new Thunderbolt. They got tech support on the line, and I was told that switching to a 3G device from a 4G device causes the 4G sim to be "retired" and that I needed to have them send me one, or go pick up one at the store. So the story was different from what happened to KidJoe and I wonder what your experience was.
A couple possible reasons why my situation was different: It was not the same Thunderbolt the sim was originally in. Also it's possible in playing around with the new Thunderbolt, I may have done a *228 just to see what would happen. Someone else suggested that would tank the sim.
I plan to go the store tomorrow and see if they can resuscitate my old sim, or if they give me a new one.
I had activated my thunderbolt when I got it with no problems. I decided to switch back to my incredible for a day and the sim was deactivated. Vzw gave me the run around between going to the store and calling customer service for a few days then they finally said they would have to send me a new sim because as soon as I switched to the inc my sim was "retired".

Yes. They were.
I did my switches only a few hours apart... (i.e. switched to INC, waited an hour, switched back to TB). And used the same phone and SIM. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.
There obviously is an inconsistency in VZW's system somewhere... the message you get when using "Activate Phone" on the my account web page to switch away from the TB says the SIM will be deactivated after 90days. But its being deactivated IMMEDIATELY. Either that message needs to be changed, or VZW's system isn't set up correctly.

Yea that's what they told me, I ended up having to get a new sim from the store
I just purchased an Atrix 4g from amazon wireless and got it in today, the ATT rep i spoke to before the purchase said i did not require a sim card to use the phone but its only letting me do emergency calls? Is there any way to bybass this? or do i need to call ATT and unlock it?
Edit: Found an old post for using the phone without a sim card, seems to have worked for now, ill have to try rebooting it and seeing if it stays this way.
Also, should i call ATT and get it unlocked anyway?
I have an lg k8+ model x210ulm that i want to use with cricket. The phone is fully unlocked and will accept any sim from any carrier but has an odd behaviour that wont let me use my own sim.
I bought a feesh sim from cricket and when i put it in and set it up it will register with crickets apn and mobile network settibg. I get data and it shows up in the about network as connected and working. It shows cricket carrier in notificstion and i can get texts and even voice mail. But ........
I cannot use the dialer. Upon connection there is no error toast or anything it just imnedistely hangs up.
I can use my wifes my sons or my friends sims in the phone and after a reboot works perfectly. But when i put mine in it stops.
Also my sim works fine in any other unlocked device or cricket device.
Any clue as to wth is going on
Ok so after talking to lg and really that was frustrating. Why because the rep told me it the phone was carrier locked to us cellular which i knew it wasnt because its advertised as being unlocked and well us cellular put up an advert a few years ago stating that all thier phones are unlocked.
So after that i went ahead and talked to a rep at us cellular who assured me it was unlocked and checked the imei for me and sent me link to the advert about thier phones being unlocked.
Back to lg and got another rep this time who knew a lil about something but not much. Could not tell me any thing though.
Now back to cricket where we tested my girlfriends sim in my phone to which it worked and mine in her phone to which it worked. We put the sims in my aristo 2 and fortune 2 and both sims worked. But when i put my sim back in my my k8+(2018) once again every thing works fine but you cannot make or recieve phone calls.
We also tested the voice mail app and and thier what qualifies as a carrier app and it registers. The sim registers in about phone shows service and is connected. Shows the phone number every thing works.
Just not the phone Dialer app
So is there any one out there at all that has had an issue like this before. Any one that can help me figure out what the problem is. This is so crazy that my sim wont work and every one elses will.
Could it be something i did using dialer codes? Any cLues at akl
So here we are months later and im still having sim issues with my k8+ ulm. I ended up buying a brand new device and i tried my provisioned sim card with it not working but literally every other sim card works fine.
I have switched from cricket to assist wireless now who is run or what ever by sprint and i can get the sim card to work for a couple days before switching it to another phone but the main issue is that i get a error popup stating that the sim card has locked and that i need to power cycle and call customer service.
But i made a ton of changes by adding all the system apps from sprint including sprinthiddenmenu and any other apk that was on the tribute dynasty they came from. I also went through the file system and made any prop changes or any thing else that was needed to enable sprint.
At this point id flash a sprint modem but i cant find a cv1 device provisioned under sprint
