I rooted my gs3 and want to change my status bar icons. I did it after rooting and it bricked it. I did a factory wipe and am now running cm 10.1 is it safe to try changing them again? Cricket network galaxy s3 cm 10.1 4.2.2

Yeah. First of all make a nandroid backup in recovery before u do anything. Then you can make whatever changes to systemui.apk that you like. I would recommend using uot kitchen to edit status bar icons.

Yeah I've done nandroid and a few others for good measure. I'm using ROM toolbox pro to change the settings. I just didn't want to temp brick again and not be able to redo cm 10.1. Thanks for the help though.

Search for the theming threads and do it manually. This way you learn what your doing and safe yourself some issues.
The kitchen has been having issues and is not the best way to do it.

Oh yeah I researched kitchen and have just decided to wait before changing any of it.

ITs really not that hard to be honest to do it yourself. Takes a little learning but the feeling you get from doing it yourself far out weighs the work.
On my gs3 I have the "signature verification failed" issue. I have to use a PC to toggle my signature verification and I don't have a PC that will run Odin. Is there a way around that? Cause if so I'd love to learn to do it myself.

I think it better to use ninjamorph on play store. Just open framework res in a new project change icons and finish the project.

You can disable the signature verification check in recovery mode. In clockworkmod recovery if you select the "install zip from sd card" then "toggle signature verification" it will disable the signature check that is performed when flashing zip's (Selecting the "toggle signature verification" option again will re-enable signature checking) enabling you to your zip file. If your using TWRP, under settings make sure the "signature verification" option is un-checked.

Thanks chromium. That's the type of answer I needed. I'm glad I decided to use xda cause I'm obviously a noob. But I rooted myself and recovered from a brick on my own so I at least ain't too bad.

I would contact the developer of the program and ask him to update the program to ICS standards. This will get rid of that menu and will follow Google guidelines which is what HTC has done with their ICS implementation.
It's time for the developers to catch up to the new standards as ICS is finally starting to gain momentum.
Hi, a while back before I installed CyanogenMod on my device I was running a stock 2.2 rom on my rooted g5.
For the fun I decided to modify framework.apk to change the status bar and stuff like that, I also edited settings.apk to match and added some apps into system apps. Anyway my point is would anyone be interested in turning this into a custom rom? Would people want to flash it? The idea is to have all the stablity of stock with better looks and features. We could call it 'StockMod G5' or something. Good idea? Bad idea? Leave your comments below on what you think, it might be stupid I don't know
Ur just trying to make a custom rom based on stock!..its a good idea no doubt

Hi Venkatraman, this rom will most likely be updated in early February, I have like 1 test build but its not complete and I have but development of it on the side as I am launching another rom in January based on CM7.2. When my 7.2 rom is lauched I'll go back and finish this
OK so I know how to flash a new ROM on normal recoveries on my gs3, my sister who has a gs1vibrant, wants me to update her from parano1dandro1d to cm10.1 I have all the required downloads done. Then I go into recovery and it looks very similar except it has a few more options and other differences and it says semaphore cwm recovery v6.0.1.5. My question is: can I still flash as normal with this recovery? Many thanks
Sure you can. But! You're in wrong section!
Here they come.

If you are familiar with ROM building, it should be a simple transfer of system apps and permissions.

Im kinda a noob at this. Rom building isn't my strong suit. Yet!
There are plenty of guides about custom ROM building but the best way is to download CM10 copy it to your desktop and open it up with win rar and just look inside it. That's primary how I learned

That's a good idea I think I just might give it a try got nothing to loose..
As long as you back up and don't touch boot.img or the kernel, you should be good.

Happened to me before when I did flash the wrong status bar for the firmware version or odex/deodexed version.
You can try a dirty flash of the stock rom without wiping data or moving the SystemUI.apk into the appropriate folder, give the permissions correctly and restart the phone (not sure if this would work though).
yeah actually i thought about that..but im keeping that option for last xD...how did you solve the problem?

for what? flashing a rom? have a look in the general section's stickies, there is a guide on how to.
If you have a nandroid backup just restore.
Otherwise reflash your rom and restore data.
just move the original systemui to /system/app and set the correct permissions.
and if you should have a backup if you followed the instructions
i dont have a backup :/
