My corporate exchange activesync policy requires my phone to have a PIN. I am used to having "no lockscreen", but without a lockscreen, the phone gives me no opportunity to enter the PIN. So you are just locked there with the time and weather. Fortunately you can hold down the power button to restart. So now I have a lockscreen, at least until I install a custom ROM (which typically disables the PIN policy).
I am unlocked and rooted. Not sure if this is a "feature" of the original ROM or if I installed an app that messed it up.
My only previous Android was the One X+, but it had a custom ROM which disabled the PIN requirement, so I don't know if it behaved this way or not.
An update--this problem started occurring even with a lock-screen. It would not show the keypad to enter the PIN.
I was using Smart Keyboard Pro. Switched back to HTC Sense Input and the problem seems to have gone away.

it's the other keyboard i had the same problem with Swype before i purchased via Google Play. i too reverted to the HTC Sense keyboard and the disappearing key-pad issue went away. the newest paid version of Swype doesn't have the same issue.

Hi,
Not sure if this has been asked before, but If a pin number or password is set up for the lock screen, this can be bypassed by pressing the home button 5 or 6 times and will then open up the phone without the need to enter the password or pin. A work colleague found this out by accident and was able to access the phone uninhibited. Is this a feature in case of forgotten passwords / pins or is it a bug. Or can it be disabled? as it doesn't seem all that secure
Mine doesnt do that, tried it several times
must be a bug on your phone
Yeah I though that but another work colleague has the same phone and his does it as well. You have to press it quite quickly it seems to go into the voice control when it comes on and then goes on to normal phone use. I have found other references to it googling, but seems to be relating to a fix if you have actually forgotten the password.
We've been having a fiddle , and now having powered off the phones cold and restarting after setting the pin numbers it has stopped doing it. Up untill now after setting the pin code we hadn't actually powered off completely just into standby. SO you presumably must have to reboot the phone after setting the pin number.
Anyway both phones are working and cant replicate the issue, so hopefully sorted.
Thanks
I have a ThL W8, running GravityMod 1.5 (android 4.2)
I want'ed to try out the face recognition based unlock, so I setup it to recognize my face and its working!
The problem is that I just wanted to check this out, so I tried to pull it off and but I was asking to input a security PIN which was made for a situation you're in a dark area and the camera wouldn't recognize you or etc...
Once I've setup the lockscreen I didn't put 2 much of attention to the PIN and I can't remember it.
I'm used to have this option of "forget PIN?" or something which allows you to reset your password with you google account but it seems missing.
I'd like to cancel it, what should I do?
So I'm locked out of my phone in a way that doesn't seem to be able to be fixed by anything. I didn't forget my password, the bottom row of my keyboard just stopped working. I've switched through samsung's default, swype, and a.i. keyboard plus, same thing on all three. The placement of the "enter" button is preventing me from being able to unlock my phone. This is also a new thing as well, just happened this morning. The pixels don't look messed up, I didn't drop it last night, nothing should be causing this problem. I need a fix for one or the other, either a way to unlock my phone or a way to fix my screen.
Running android 5.0.1 on a samsung galaxy s4.
Also, I'd prefer if you have answers other than wiping my whole phone. It's an option but a terrible one because I can't back up anything since I can't get past my lockscreen.
so with the update to MM I'm finally able to use the fingerprint unlock with a case, but either I missed something or it's still somewhat annoying to use. after booting up I need to enter a password, which I'm okay with, however after using my device for a bit and letting it go to lock there are times where I need to re-enter my password instead of the fingerprint and this is without rebooting. is this normal?
EDIT: so I came across a few places that mention the use of Nova Launcher or 3rd party lockscreen apps... I don't have any of the latter, but I do have Nova Launcher except I'm not using that to lock my screen. am I missing something here?
It will do that I believe as a default. You can set up a smart place, like home, on your person, whatever, and it won't lock with a password. I use it on mine for the house, and certain devices it connects to.

I believe there may be an issue now... I just unlocked my device using the fingerprint and I have my device set to lock after 10 minutes. Less than 10 minutes after my screen goes off I wake up my device with a double tap and it's locked, prompting for a password!
My LG G8X, (LM-G850QM) purchased at B & H Photo , was updated today to Android 10 today.
After rebooting the lock screen did not have a keyboard on it so I was unable to log in.
Needless to say both LG and T-Mobile (my carrier) customer support were useless.
In this mode the LG cannot be rebooted into bootloader without ADB.
What caused the issue is that I was not using the standard Android keyboard as my default keyboard.
After the new update the keyboard app was asking for permission to access the phone and because the phone was on the lock screen the pop up didn't come up so the keyboard app didn't work.
This causes a lock screen without a keyboard. Major Problem.
If you are already in this situation there is a simple solution. Connect a USB On the Go hub to the phone and plug a standard USB keyboard into the hub and type your password on the USB keyboard.
To prevent this from happening, before installing the update, change your default keyboard app back to the original keyboard app that came with the phone.
After the update you can changed the default keyboard app back.
I have the same model and my default keyboard is SwiftKey Keyboard - phone updated to Android 10 yesterday without the issue you experienced. I use numeric pin and also have fingerprint unlock set up - maybe your setup is different?
