Ubuntu Touch? - AT&T LG Optimus G

has anyone looked at porting Ubuntu Touch to the LGOG? I read somewhere that the porting is "easy" if you're running CM10.1. but I am no developer so that could be BS.

It's a fairly easy port, but I have stayed away from it because it is mostly not working, most apps are just for show, and it has bricked some nexus 4s, an issue that Canonical included in the release notes. I wouldn't be able to release it with that over my head.

Once it is more stable, I plan to bring it to our devices. It's just not worth the risk right now. I don't like releasing things that I know could brick people.

The Ubuntu touch os hasn't really advanced much since the initial release. Data and WiFi for instance still don't work

I wonder if its possible to get a port of Ubuntu phone from the nexus 4 to the OG.
And if so would you have to have the nexus conversion done.

I did this earlier today, and Ubuntu touch looks promising. It's no where near ready for daily use though. But that is to be expected with a developer preview.

....that's your personal opinion. I think that Ubuntu for phones will essentially be more powerful than android and will bring a variety of new possibilities to the table along with a cool new interface. The only negative thing I could think of is not being able to use android apps.
Wait lol was that sarcasm?
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda premium
New interface may be fun to tinker with I guess. The phone ecosystem is all about the apps, though.
All I see is a potentially more bloated os, much worse power management, less apps, etc. But I may be completely wrong.
Regardless it will be interesting to see if this and mozilla's phone os end up being worth a crap.

I personally am happy with the ROM I'm running, but judging from the amount of questions about "x is awesome... but where's miui?" in the Q&A section, there's plenty of interest!
Also, since I'm a flashaholic I most likely will flash it at least once :silly:
Pecked by the AOKP/CM/PA alicorn
I am also interested in having miui in our phone and would like to test it if possible.

Trust me this question has popped up like 3 different threads. People want this, me myself have only heard of miui. New to this ROM bussiness so I've never actually got to use it and would love if you ported.
I have ported miui for the photon 4g and epic touch 4g but the lgog is my first gsm phone so be patient with me and I'll see what I can put together.. Any thoughts on what kernel to use ??

As far as kernels go I would use the one from cyangenmod. Houcha n my kernel are better off left as a 2nd flash. Hate to have kernel issues in your ROM thread that you have no control over.

Well hey Eclipse. You guys in the newer models must be happy to hear that.
Sent from my Amaze 4G using xda app-developers app
Well holy crap. That halo is like so convenient. It multitasks and does everything notification wise.
I have a Nexus 4 and use PA as my main driver. Its the only redeeming quality of having a Nexus device, full support. I hang on shred of hope G2X can get Radio working on CM10.1 and Amaze get all it's bugs ironed out from HTC sources release. I don't know why they couldn't do what was done with HTC Sensation, that device has support up to the sky.
I love my old devices. Nostalgia. I bought a Sensation and going to unlock boot, flash, S=OFF, and all that good stuff then I will give it to my cousins who's been asking for an Adroid phone. Still on the fence if to part ways with the Sensation or the Amaze.

Well you can still color me skeptical. A screenshot of a lockscreen could be anything. Especially when you mention what's not working: "everything". I'm not trying to dissuade him from working on it if he indeed is, I'm just not excited about a phone pic of another phone sitting at idle lockscreen. He could have ported the next super computer for all I know.
I will apologize for my skepticism later if it proves unfounded, I promise.

I'd say maybe once every week or two weeks, I'd do it daily, but my laptop can only hold so much
Then again, I build stuff pretty randomly, so you might get 2 a week here, 1 a week there, so we'll see

The real question how much space do you need, to do several updates? And keep them all from start to current?

Well, UEFI was a jerk, so I had to use Builduntu. And the Builduntu maker max's out the max amount of memory you can give it to 100 gigs.
Mahdi itself is maybe 35
And each of the model builds in about 20 and then (somehow) turns itself into a 200mb zip
I can hold 2 at once since system takes up 9gb
So... Yeah
And I promised the CFX people I would work on that too and CFX took up a buttload of data
So when I do that, expect maybe a week or two with no new builds, and then once I'm done with that, I'll make it for the variants and then get back to Mahdi, and then some HellKat

No problem, but this whole thing with the kernel and no LED and no pocket mode is driving me nuts, I'm gonna switch kernels until it gets resolved. Geespr gets dailys since I know what's wrong, and can find how to fix it. All the stuff on the variants depends on you guys
