I am ready to take the plunge on generic Android phones. I need advise on whether to buy a MTK 6589 with RAM 1GB or MTK 6577 with RAM 2GB given all other specs the same? I believe both are in similar price ranges. I know 6589 is quad core and 6577 is dual core. I play very few games (if any at all) and sometimes watch youtube or downloaded movies.
My budget is sub US$200 (maybe US$150-US$180) including delivery.
Neither. Get yourself a Nexus 4.
Dont buy Mediatek Devices!
As much as I know Mediatek Devices are useless if you are going into development! Most of them dont have kernel sources and updated drivers Which I dont like.... You can buy MTK if it has all the sources available! Even Micromax Didn't release the kernel sources for Canvas HD A116 which was having MTK chipset! Though, Some Acer device had the same chipset so they released the kernel source which is now used by devs!
Another thing,
MTK Chipsets are really powerful! So if you only wanna use it for Daily Use and Gaming purposes then its Awesome! If you gonna go into the deep Android Development World then only buy if it has all source available

I had this unit..and the dual core as well.
Try those GPU benchmark..(around half of the score of S4, HTC One etc)
I had a problem though...i can received sms but could not send any out.
Nevertheless....impressive.
(bluetooth, auto brightness, reasonable WIFI range...)

so will the gnex be a high end phone as in having desktop convergence? according to their website, for it to be a high end phone, it needs to have a quadcore a9 processor. otherwise it fulfills every other aspect. this phone has a dualcore a9 processor, so will there be desktop convergence. I really hope there will be I want to try it out.
Well from what I saw, every video demo etc. Was specifically the galaxy nexus. At one point I did see "a" phone connected using the desktop feature. Each phone I saw using the Ubuntu mobile has been the nexus.
Edit : I've also heard the specs released aren't final and just a figure for certain phones.

the entry specs are
1Ghz Cortex A9
512MB – 1GB
4-8GB eMMC + SD
Multi-touch
hig end specs are
Quad-core A9 or Intel Atom
Min 1GB
Min 32GB eMMC + SD
Multi-touch
so i think The Galaxy Nexus is just a "normal" UbuntuPhone device

that's OEM specs, which doesn't mean much for download/install version potentially. The values of which would have been decided are best to give the full desktop experience - including downloading alot of desktop apps. Time will tell, but I suspect desktop version will run perfectly on GNEX, or any other internal memory only phone - it's just a matter of keeping your eye on space available when you are installing Ubuntu native apps.
I'm also wondering if the Desktop Feature will simply be disabled on devices with lower than recommended specs. I have seen some Ubuntu on Android videos using a Motorolla Atrix II which has exactly the same hardware as the GNex. It ran the desktop and even Ubuntu TV pretty good considering it was early in development (1 year ago) and running ontop of Android with bridges to access the phone settings and apps.
Can I ask the local guru for help with root this phone?

but now i bought this one ..
link to the hardware is not allowed =/

can you tell me where i can change the specs to the real informations that i can use it as it really is and not with fake information?
i'm not allowed to put some links. that suxxx! -.-
can send screenshots and it's link from aliexpress. i need real help. i'm no n00b to android and hardware.
This is one of the things with using devices from there. They have modded software that lies about the hardware. Not really alot you can do. Without wiping the device and rebuilding the os from the ground up
I want to make a port of android lolipop to my device (GT-9063T). This phone have only the stock 4.2.2 android and no custom roms.
The rom i`m getting as a base is the stock 5.1.1 update for Galaxy J1 Ace (J110M). The two devices have:
Dual sim support;
480x800 pixels
1.2 ghz, quad core processor
1 gb ram (the same tipe of ram too)
8gb internal memory.
Obs: There is more stuff, but i think the important ones are already here.
Are these devices similar enough so i can port the update more easily? If yes, what is the best thread you can link me to? I don't care about speed, i have the patience to spend a good time working on this.
Well, thank you guys for the attention
I'm not a developer but I believe in the end it boils down to similar processors
