Hi All!
I had an idea to gain root with the new JV update for the xt910 with restoring root from voodoo ota root keeper, despite having a backup from it,maybe some one could upload the backup and we could try restore from the software?
I don't know if it might work but it worth a shot,i searched over the net and didn't saw someone trying it.
Thanks for participant .
It won't work you need to be rooted to restore root that's how voodoo work... If it would bee that ready we all would bee rooted

Ya my friend has the bionic and told me about Dans work. I was like I thought he retired, but I guess thier was a jackpot of almost 1k and some change, and Dan came out the wood work and won it and throw in the xt910 with the initial bionic root as a thank you.
Now so ever one knows he is not gonna probably ever make another exploit again and he clearly said make sure future reference never lose root again and if you buy a new phone make sure it is unlocked or unlock able this way you won't have to worry about root ever again.
I been installed this root hours ago and I confirm it to work. Make sure you don't have any security app in stalled or any app that requires root as well when doing the exploit cause it will cause conflict and not work. But after trial and error I got root on the xt910 4.1.2 jb. Thank you Dan. And if anyone has a question about it pls feel free to ask.

Just updated to 6.12.173 Android 2.3.6, like a dumb ass and superuser is still on my phone, I have uninstalled it but it is still showing up in Applacations -> Manage Applications -> All, but no where else except in in /system/app when useing root explorer but i can't delete it as i have no ROOT access. My question is can i re-root useing Motofail if superuser is still on my phone? And second dose anyone know of a way to get superuser off of my phone? i did a factory reset and that didn't work, hell the custome boot anamation i made is still on my phone. Should i try another factory reset?
Sorry for the bold words just wanting to make my self as clear as i can.
Yes, you can reroot, and you'll have to to remove the superuser app from the system partition.

OK cool I was just nervous about using motofail since I hadn't read that a lot of people had tried it. Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm gonna try and I'll let you know how it goes. If it doesn't work we may end up having to wait for ICS to see if that will take care of the problem. I hope that's not the case thou.

Sorry i looked for a similar thread for this and i couldn't find one for the razr.
Basically i rooted by phone for the first time ever and the next day i noticed i had an OTA update. So now I have system version : 6.12.173.XT912.Verizon.en.US . I did find out that i made a mistake in accepting this update and now I cant access root.
Is there a fix for this? what do i have to do? I need wifi tether by this sunday cuz im leaving town and staying on an army base so i dont know what kind of internet access i will have.
Again im sorry but i did look to see if this issue was brought up. Im a forum mod myself and i know how double threads are annoying. So just direct me to the correct thread if it exists.
There's a new root exploit called Motofail that will fix you up nicely.

Tbh, i saw that thread but wasnt sure it was the correct fix. Thank you for your input kind sir. I will tell you if it worked for me when i get enough balls to actually try this.
So this is how the time line should work correct?
1. Rooted my droid Razr
2. Downloaded and Installed update XT912
3. Update caused Razr to break root
4. Download and install Motofail
5. Profit?
I should be back to having root access correct?
yep there we go! thanks it looks like i have root access again. The only prob is b4 this happened my phone booted directly into clockworkmod recovery. it doesnt do that now. anyone know how i can get my phone to do this again?
Edit: I fixed it, all i had to do was install safestrap again.
Glad it worked! Check out Supercurio's awesome OTA Rootkeeper app when you get a chance, it'll save you the trouble when the next OTA hits.

You got. Just don't install a recovery and before you install any ota, temp un root. Then restore root after. Also unfreeze anything before and do not delete any system apps.

So should I uninstall Bootstrap?
Yes to uninstall bootstrap. Separate thought; Motofail root method wouldn't create any ota blockers right no extra steps to take if used that method?

But I find it really important that this thread isn't messed by people saying that they are needing root rights and have lost them because of the update. Everyone knows that and it's just not helpful. I will appreciate all help full contributions.

Only working on xt912 because of the older smart action version...Looks like they have fixed it that's why we can use it as we have the newer version of smart actions and as it is a systemapp we can't downgrade or change to the needed version because you need root for it...

As for the root - there is no working way, you will have to root your phone once more.
