Are the screens on Droid DNA and the One the same? - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Besides the size difference they both use LCD3 right? I'm trying to figure out if its worth upgrading from the DNA, specwise they seem almost the same and I'm already using Sense 5 on the DNA.

Keep your phone, is the same but bigger!
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app

Screens are pretty much identical aside from the size. Even the phones themselves I would consider relatively identical with minor differences. In my opinion, not big enough differences to be worth the upgrade, at least not to the One.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I enjoy HTC phones, but as of late their speakers are worthless. Coming from HTC there are things I miss, but I love my note.

It will be over priced, have the crappiest display ever and probably the same 800mah battery they have been using in all their phones since the touch pro.
6 months later they will release 3 more versions, 1 won't have a front facing camera, one will lack LTE and the other will have a smaller screen but the supply will be so low only a handful will buy it.
3 months later those 3 phones will get updated with faster processors and less ram and they will all have the same screen size and then they will stick 4 cameras on their note refresh and announce a line of accessories in partnership with jay-z's rocawear clothing line shortly before being bought out by LG.

Sense 4.0 might actually shine on a note like phone, but like all HTC's lately the speakers and the battery would be major problems.
The specs look crazy. 1080p screen is not a crappy screen by any means.

more like a huge textbook instead of note.
when i think htc, i think HEAVY THICK CRAPS!
They just better bring their A-game. I'd imagine them using the S4 PRO, HD screen of some sorts and the usual other jazz. It really comes down to battery life and their software. Software is what's been killing the OneX in all comparison tests.
I'd imagine a name like the HTC One-Scribe or simply Scribe...since it will come with the scribe pen.
Regardless, competition will only make the Note 2 that much better. I personally wont switch to the HTC variant no matter what the specs.

Samsung is ahead in the android game. But HTC is a close second and they're trying to get back into the top spot. So why not compete in the phablet category? (tablet phones = small and new market). The more (options) the better I guess. If Apple jumped on the tablet phone category, they would have a huge market.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
Since I've gotten my Note, I'll probably always be looking for a 5"+ screen for every future phone ... so I love any future where multiple manufacturers compete in the 5"+ phone form factor.

+1. If Samsung decides to discontinue the Note after the first one, my options will be probably limited. We need more 5 inch screen devices.
I've had software/hardware issues with my last two Samsung phones which is why I haven't purchased a note. Whether it's HTC or another manufacturer building a note like phone it gives me another choice which is good. Competition drives development = WIN.

OK guys let's be honest, is the Sensation more worthwhile than the amaze

Before you go and bash me saying we do one of these threads like every week I'm just asking an honest question. is it worth it to trade an amaze for a sensation or go to the sensation from the amaze because if development and support
The down side is less RAM slightly worse camera and no internal storage
But besides that speed wise they should be similar since they run the same chip.
Software is a huge part of the phone, and I don't want the one s because it doesn't have a removable battery and storage.
What should I do? I think me and my amaze have been together long enough
Damn noob... There's a Q&A Section.
Noooo it's a discussion thread
In my opinion Sensation is better than Amaze since it gets more software supports (official CM, yah), integrated SoC (seems to be more power efficient), and is slightly thinner.
Hey eclipze! I personally think that the trading to the sensation is a good decision unless your snagging some cash. But I personally have owned 3 sensations. And have had one at the same time as having an amaze. I compared my stock amaze side by side with my cm 9 sensation. And the speed, smoothness, and stability of my amaze was noticeably better than the sensation. So while having the support, I really don't think it out performs the amaze. I had a sensation when the amaze came out. I was honestly laughing at the amaze. It seemed like a terrible phone choice for tmobile to push because it was arguably the same specs as the amaze. I thought this for a long time. I then had an opportunity to get an amaze dirt cheap, I planned on just reselling (besides wanting to play with the camera). But once I played with it I immediately noticed a difference in performance. That aside... Out of probably 4 sensations that ever reached my hands, 3 had significant amounts of dust under the screen. This gradually increased overtime... So even if it didn't have dust to begin with, it happened eventually. Because I'm cheap... If I could find a sensation for around $150 and could sell this for over $250, I'd do it, and use the sensation until gsiii prices dropped. But unless you're getting money out of it I wouldn't find it worth it.

I think I'm having the same feelings as you. I have been thinking about switching to a different device that has more support and dev. Although, I haven't thought about the sensation. Personally, I wouldn't go to the sensation as an equal exchange. I would need cash on top since the amaze is an upgrade.
Although, I'm actually thinking about the sgs3 or the nexus. I found a s3 for 400 brand new, thinking about getting it right after this doctor's appointment.
EDIT: after some reading it seems that there are a lot of scams going on with people on CL and tmobile phones, specifically the sgs3. So maybe won't go down that route. :banghead:

I can personally care less. I don't like the Sensation as much. 14.4MB compared to 42MB. big difference for data. I originally bought my phone so I can tether it to my laptop and Xbox. I still do that. I'm happy with how the software is. I'm not a flashaholic so I really don't mind. Sure, it is slow around here. At least I made some friends around here and people know me.

I got an Amaze knowing its issues. The performance is ok and its size/weight is not as much an issue for me since it is tapered. The lack of wifi source this late is infuriating. The battery life is also mediocre at best. IMO the main problem with the amaze is the crappy HSPA+ modem that was first gen, a huge power hog, and made the phone bulky as well.
But I probably would not downgrade to the sensation despite better rom support and battery life. I'd rather just wait for the successor to the Amaze or the next google phone.

Sure it has great ROM development but I'm sure it wasn't always like that. The amaze work have great development one we figure out data. Plus it's a downgrade in specs from the amaze. If anything I would say go with a more current phone like the s3 or the one series phones.

Convince Me: One X+ over Nexus 4 (N4)

I am planning to get a new phone and i cannot decide between the One X+ (international ver.) and the LG Nexus 4 (N4).
I want:
Extremely Smooth.
A nice UI (User Interface) to brag about.
A future proofed phone
Hard Gaming
Downloading - Wifi g/b/n optional /a
Above average battery life - lasts a day or more.
And lastly, i will not root my phone as soon as i get it - but i might think about it. But, it may be unlikely.
For:
I would get a N4. but, i hate the fact that i would not be able to get HTC's awesome widgets. - Weather...
The N4 is basically similar to Apex Launcher.
Against:
I am getting tired of the sense interface. It is very similar to Gingerbread. - which makes it kind of boring.
Nexus has the new gen specs - flagship processor, 2GB Ram..
I am actually happy with my current HTC Desire Z - rooted with ELITEMOD. But the thing which annoys me a lot is the battery life - 7-8 hours minimal use - no games.
Other phone suggestions are welcome. Not LG, GS3, iPhone.
PS. I like touchwiz, but the SGS3 is not a option.
I dislike the name LG, so it is not a option - Yes i am picky. With a exception for the Nexus series.
...A decently new phone which WILL get the Jellybean update.
Update:
If you are reading this in 2013, I recommend getting the HTC M7, Nexus 7, or if you are in the main stream get the S4, or the New Samsung Galaxy Note (not the note 2).
Rumours say the M7 n the new galaxy note will have a camera which is above 10 megapixels. Rumours also say the HTC M7 will have a tegra 4 processor.

How about the Razr HD Maxx?
3300mAh battery, so plenty for extended gaming sessions, and it is due to get Jellybean very soon. Might not be cutting edge enough on the specs front though with only a dual core S4 & 1gb ram.
I've only had my One X+ for 8 days and haven't done much gaming to be honest, but I have noticed that extended periods of browsing can chew through the battery, so gaming would run it down even quicker ( depending on your screen brightness level I suppose )
Tbh if the Razr had an lcd / ips screen I would have one now instead of the One X+ as I hate amoled screens. That was the only thing that stopped me picking one up.

For me it's how they can over saturate the colours, and that whites can look more of a grey / blue colour than proper white. You do get deeper blacks with an amoled screen though.
It doesn't bother most people to be honest, and a lot of people like the over saturated look, but I personally prefer the more natural image quality & colours of a good lcd / ips screen.

Idk why you ask when the specs are all over xda. I mean the nexus 4 will be smoother, and sense is too in your face, but I'd go with the HOX+. Sorry Google, but HTC has probably the best build quality for its phones out there, no argument can be made. Just to chime in
I've been kicking around the same decision re: Nexus 4 vs HOX+. Having a Nexus 7, I love the look of stock Jellybean. Not a fan of the Sense Graphics/Themes and find the look dated (as mentioned in this thread already). If there was a foolproof way to install AOSP on the HOX+ and get the Google OTA updates, that would make my decision for me. If anyone knows of this option, I'm all ears.
Not to hijack the thread or anything. If I have to start a new one, I will. But since the OP original decision making process may require this info (really reaching here) then it could be answered without a new thread subject.
On another note, the reason for my leaning to the OneX+ is: Design: the feel of this phone in the hand is second bar none. Screen: Superb. Storage: Huge and therefore, lack of SD not a concern. Second Iteration: the kinks have been worked out of its construction, quality appears very good. Camera: One of the best 8mp on a smartphone with good camera software to boot.
Negative: Software: UI Design looks old, less sophisticated to my eyes. Updates: with stock Sense 4+ they will be slow and most likely stop before updates stop rolling out for the Nexus 4 stock.

Samsung GS3 LCD/Digitizer shattered. Thinking about a DNA.

So I had my GS3 for about 3 months before it experienced a 2 foot drop shattering not just the digitizer but the LCD as well. The phone was a good phone, I originally had an Incredible, moved up to the Rezound (which I loved) and then the GS3. What I have learned about Samsung is that the build quality isn't as solid as HTC's (from my experiences). I was thinking about going back to HTC with the DNA.
I just wanted some input from people who own the phone and what their thoughts are about it. Practicality, Functionality, BATTERY LIFE (very important to me) and etc.
Any comments, concerns or suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance

For all intensive purposes the battery life is the same, if not slightly better than the s3.
And functionality and practicality is determined by you, we can't answer it for you.

Battery life, for me, is leaps and bounds above my s3. I NEVER got 5 hours of screen time on the s3.
Please don't touch my "Thanks" button, it doesn't like you...
Hmm. I am surprised to hear that about the battery life. I haven't read too much about the development of the DNA, is there the whole S-On or S-Off thing that the Rez had? haha
Do you guys notice a difference with the Quad core setup? GS3's dual was very quick and responsive.
Our phone is s on for the time being unless you want to send it to someone and have it opened up. But it really doesn't matter. Only things it changes is that we can't change the splash screen and radios and we have to use an app to flash kernels, besides that it is fine.
And it isn't any smoother per say, but i have seen the s3 get laggy every once in a while, that doesn't happen on the DNA. And apps definitely open faster on the DNA. And very intensive games run better.

I have the S3 and DNA and the battery life is virtually identical for me. Get about 4 hours screen time on both and about 15 hours with a full charge. I have the quad core S3 (international version) and the difference in performance is noticeable. On my S3 (which has 1gb of Ram) I would get lots of redraws on the home screen. Sure custom Rom's/kernels helped but did not totally resolve them. On the DNA I see no redraws or lag. Overall I enjoy the experience of the DNA more than I do my S3 so unless I am going on a long trip, my S3 stays in my desk drawer.
thank you guys for the replies. My main concern is S-Off, I know on the rezzy it made a huge difference (way easier to flash kernels/roms and etc.) Hopefully it isn't as complicated here with S-On. And I'm glad to hear about the battery life. I will most probably be purchasing one soon.
Definitely going to invest in good case.
***EDIT
only thing I am concerned about is not having an SD card slot. -__-
With s on you flash roms like any other phone, and kernels you use an app called flash image gui to flash the boot.img then you just flash the modules in recovery.

Lol if battery life is a concern you are definitely looking at the wrong phone. If anyone tells you different they are in denial. Htc, along with every reviewer on the net about the Dna have all acknowledged the poor performance of the battery.
If you are looking for the best phone out, the note 2 absolutely destroys the DNA. The only thing the dna has over the note 2 is screen resolution.... on paper lol. The note 2 screen is amazing. Honestly just grab one and take a look. Add in the amazing software ( split screen, pop up browser, pop up note and pop up movie player that can all be on the screen at the same time), spen, redonkulous battery life, sd card slot, ability to replace battery and amazing support and you have greatest phone on the market. And that is your opinion. Most people consider sense the nicest looking manufacture skin our there.
And show me something like viper tweaks on a touchwiz Rom, oh wait, you can't.

This is why I will never buy another HTC phone, the people who buy HTC phones on here do so for the crap sense rom, and will argue with everyone that its the greatest piece of software out there. I buy my phone because of the hardware, and want AOSP as my rom, not this sense crap.

The battery life on this phone is great. I had a Galaxy Nexus originally and then switched from the Note 2 to this.
If you want to carry that thing around in your pocket all day be my guest but I am much happier with the DNA compared to the Note.

Lol its funny that your phone seems to be the anomaly. Everyone, including HTC THEMSELVES, have acknowledged the poor battery performance. Just look at the size of your battery vs. The amount of pixels the dna is pushing. Do the math man there is reason everyone ( except for a few in denial dna owners) has pointed to the battery peeformance. Living in denial my friend. If you like your dna, kudos to you. Enjoy carrying that phone charger around all day.
If the only bad thing you can say about the note 2 is the size thats a personal thing. Im 5 11 and this phone fits in my hand and pocket beautifully. My girlfriend is 5 5 and she has no problem what so ever with the note. That speaks dividends to how great the note is if the only bad thing you can say about it is the size. Note 2 ftw

Than go buy a nexus.
You should never buy a phone that you don't like stock, because for all you know it may never have aosp. If you don't like sense than don't buy HTC phones, same goes for touchwiz, or any other phone with a skin. Its simple as that.

Umm....no. are you serious? Look at the polls around net of touchwiz vs. Sense vs. stock. Most people prefer stock, then touchwiz and lastly sense. One of the biggest drawbacks of sense is the recent app drawer. Its beyond puzzling. Why would take up entire screen to see recent apps, including cutting away the app drawer, pull down menu and home screen? Very inefficient.

Oh really, this is the first link that came up when I searched for a poll, and most others echo its results.

Post DNA Plans?

If you're like me, you're ready for a new phone every year around this time. I was hoping to see a DNA2/Butterfly2 from HTC, but that doesn't look like its going to happen. Alternatives are few unless you want to go Max-sized with the HTC One Max, but at 6", that's just too darn big. I thought the Note series was too big, but the Max has even topped that.
Anyway, for those of you looking to move past the DNA (don't get me wrong - it is still a GREAT phone, especially running Viper 2.0!), what are you thinking?
Maxing out with the One Max? :cyclops:
Settling for Samsung?
Trying to Live Good with LG G2?
Or just holding out until something better comes along?
I voted for the One max in the poll above, but honestly I might be turned away by the huge size. I already have trouble typing one-handed on my DNA sometimes, but the expandable memory and huge battery would be a nice upgrade for sure.
If the size puts me off, I'll probably just wait for whatever follows up the HTC One. I'm grandfathered into unlimited data anyway, so I'll likely be buying whatever my next phone will be either at full retail or from eBay/Craigslist/Swappa.
I was really looking forward to the One Max. I wouldn't mind the bigger size because of the idea of using a bluetooth mouse and keyboard on remote desktop. However, now that the specs are officially released by HTC, there's no way I'm settling for the Snapdragon 600. Considering other recently released devices are using the Snapdragon 800, like the Note3, HTC is making a huge mistake with the slower processor. I'd like to stay with HTC, but I'm not settling for a 600. I'm starting to lean towards a Note3 but I'll probably wait for the price to come down a bit.

That's the phone I'm waiting for. Giving up Verizon and my unlimited for it. But it will be worth it. I miss the Dev support that came with my gnex. Also not having Verizon mess with my updates will be nice for once

Nothing that's a big enough improvement yet. The One is barely better than the DNA, and the Max is just a blown up version of the One.
Nexus 5 likely won't be on Verizon, so I'll be waiting for next year's flagships.

The specs are not that impressive on the N5, IMHO.
I plan on staying with the dna for quite a while. Nothing out right now really catches my eye and is convincing to drop my dna. I hate Samsung so I'm just going to end up waiting for the next best HTC phone.

I just traded my Note 2 to the DNA. LOVE IT so far.

I pulled the trigger on the DNA when Best Buy was giving them away. So far I am loving HTC coming from Moto only for years. I hope when it comes time for another upgrade there will be another awesome HTC phone for a great price.
I will most likely end up with the HTC ONE or a Nexus 5. Probably the One though. I like sense 5 way too much and the One is too solid of a phone to pass up.

Post DNA plans?
The DNA was my first phone on Verizon when it launched. I'm not due for an upgrade until late 2014. If I had to choose a device from the current crop, i'd pick the Moto X or the G2. But I'll wait until 2014 to make a real decision, but I would like to stick with HTC if possible. And by possible I mean if HTC has a device on Verizon with a similar screen size but higher ppi, much larger battery, more storage and the latest version of Android.
But that's what everybody wants right?
I would get the HTC One Max as soon as I could :upgrade or no..... I'd buy it the day it was available.
The new size is perfect for what I want in a phone.
But because I am into esthetics and the feel of a phone: that "rubberized" back cover, and I don't think I will ever see that style again, I'll keep the DNA.
I never cover my phone with a case!
iPhone 6
I'm sticking with the DNA for now.
One Max = too big for my personal taste
N5 = wont be on Verizon, and due to company rules, I dont have (or really want) another choice of carrier
G2 = nice... but not a big enough upgrade/difference for me to pull the trigger
Its interesting because with CM 10.2, I really feel like my phone is running so well that for the first time in a long time, I'm not itching to upgrade. Very weird feeling. But I think its due to the fact that there isnt a single app/game that I use which has problems or lag on the DNA.
Truly a supreme phone.
Yeah I love my DNA slick thin light but feels solid as do all HTC phones in my opinion. There really isn't a phone out or coming out that would make me feel jealous. This phone benchmarks with the best of them and we have a slew of roms out. Plenty of development by top devs who know a thing or two about fixing these issues we have.

I'm going to definitely stick with HTC if at all possible. If they updated the One with wireless charging, possibly a 5" screen (current size is good too) and the latest tech, I'd bite as soon as it came out.
