I found very different answers on the internet about this topic.
Some say yes you can update when rooted some say no and some say you can if you didn't remove any apps.
I would like to root my samsung galaxy S III I9300 and remove the samsung apps.
I do not want a custom rom and I would like to update my phone at any time when there is a new update.
Also would like to know if I could remove the "TouchWhiz home" and use the standard jelly bean skin.
So far as I know it's in the list named "System UI" with the jelly bean logo.
Thanks for all the replies,
Instead of rooting my phone I sold my Samsung Galaxy S3.
The comments were very useful and made me think, I decided to buy a google phone since the Samsung Galaxy S3 has still a quite high value in The Netherlands.
This would give me the pure android experience without rooting the phone or installing new roms.

You could try freezing the samsung apps in application manager so you don't need to root
And don't uninstall system ui, touchwiz is called touchwiz in the apps list

I did freeze those apps but I still would like to remove them.
I don't like it when there are apps on my phone which I didn't install myself that bothers me very much. :silly:
I didn't want to remove the "system UI" but the question was if I could remove the "TouchWhize home" and use the "System UI" instead.
The "System UI" has the jellybean logo so in my eyes this would be the official android skin?
Thanks for your reply! :good:
Best option for removing the Samsung apps is to root your phone. Touchwiz is also the default home of your S3. I am on Apex so I don't use it. But i am not sure if you can run System UI. Never seen it.
If you want a JellyBean theme then download Apex Launcher or Go Launcher and download the JellyBean themes from the Play Store. They're all free from memory. I use to use them.

you are very misinformed the system ui isnt the stock jelly bean launcher that is the things such as the status bar etc so whatever you do you dont want to remove that as it will give you a tonne of force closes also as the other guy said there are many launchers that can give the stock experience i aswell used to use apex launcher, it has a tonne of customization and is very smooth. you can after youve installed apex launcher uninstall touchwiz if you are rooted although i dont recommend it. if it bothers you id just recommend freezing/disabling it
Wasn't sure.

I wasn't sure about that "System UI" so if I root the phone I will let the "TouchWhize home" on the phone and install a launcher.
Also I would like to know if I am still able to update my Samsung Galaxy S3 after rooting.
Edit: 4/21/2013 - 3:24 AM
What if I still change my mind to install a different rom which rom would give me the most updated version of jelly bean?
Thanks for your reply :highfive:
I recommend Apex Launcher for a rooted phone and Go Launcher for unrooted. Go Launcher is probably the best but if your rooted its not really as good anymore.
With the Samsung updates I'm not sure if you can because I have not done it but from my knowledge. If you run a custom ROM, it will notify you for an update which will probably give you the features of the latest update.
I am running Resurrection Remix JB 3.1.4 running android 4.2.1

you cant update your rom if you put a rom on it the only way to do it is when a new fw comes out wait for the devs to update their rom then download the rom and reflash it. if you want a complete vanilla android rom then 4.2.2 is the latest fw and you will find most of them roms in the original development thread if you want a samsung based rom and just download a different launcher then i would recommend 4.1.2 as the 4.2 versions are leaked and can be unstable, for stock android the latest none leaked fw is emc3

I can imagine that the Samsung Galaxy S3 is not that much worth in the UK
The Netherlands didn't get the Nexus 4 so there are just a few stores which sell the Nexus 4.
So before that everyone would have the S4 I sold my S3 and bought the Nexus 4.
I thought that would be a smart idea and so far it is :silly:

Hi.
I just installed official ICS on my SGS2 and must say i was a bit disapointed about the look.
I really dont like Touchwiz...
I have tried CM9 and Resurrection lately and like the look.
I can use Nova launcher on the official Rom,so i can create maps..
BUT i cant get the nice icons in the dock, like stock ics themed icons as Phone, contacts,SMS etc...
So i wonder how i can get those icons in the dock, like in Resurrection?
Hope somebody can tell me,cause now im stuck with Touchwiz icons in the dock and they are not nice.
Feel the same

Sammy just blew it. I feel the same, touchwiz made ICS look as last year stuff. I'm very disappointed with the upgrade and looking for a more ICSistic experience
Apex launcher worked for me

Can someone make and CWM .zip Update that places the Stock Samsung ROM ICS Framework-res.apk file where must be?
I copy/paste another .apk over the stock one and now dont have UI, it just Boot Logo, and it freezes there ¬¬
And no, i dont wanna have to Format and erase everything and install the rom again
Anyone can help?
EDIT: I was thinking, CWM makes backup OF current Freeze after boot logo. So then i install the same rom again CLEAN, and then backup it > i select on CWM Restore the current Freeze after Boot logo rom with all data and apps and THEN i choose Advanced Backup and restore the Stock ICS backup but only the system? That will work?
Hi all,
Running CM10, but I personally love TW launcher on stock ICS. Can somebody please share their apk?

Don't think it will run on something without the samsung framework mate, I tried it with the s3 launcher on my oneX, no luck.

Thanks. Yeah I pulled it from stock and tried to system install it, but if it wasn't a parse error, it was a "app not installed" error. Sucks, I really do like touchwiz' launcher on stock ICS.
Thanks though!
Galaxy s3 launcher was succefully ported to all ics devices so for sure it is possible to port the ics launcher to any other rom in the future

Hey all, so im using the international galaxy s3 stock unrooted, on jelly bean 4.1.2 and I was wondering which apps could I disable from application manager. I disabled CHATON and GAMEHUB as I rarely even click on those apps. I saw which apps which were safe to disable from this link, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AqTvctlW89DtdC1qVUlLeVFTV3ZOdUtDclpBdVRQOUE&pli=1#gid=0
however that was made for ics, so I was wondering is there any difference with jb in terms of apps that can be disabled? Thx
don't worry can use it

There has been no update on that information regarding JB .
Try for yourself is the only way .

R: [Q] Apps that can be disabled on jelly bean 4.1.2?
Hey man just prepare a nandroid and then follow that article (which should work fine for jb as well) and disable all you want....
Also remember if ure trying to disable probably its because those apps are trying to f**k with ur phone, so use autostarts from the store to disable startup apps and greenify to disable running background apps temporarily until used again. I think this method is better than freezing apps....

Ello everyone,
I'm running an s5389i with a well known and discontinued Jellybean based custom rom which I'm not allowed to mention on here as it was banned from the forum. Anyway, I've tried installing Themer from the Google Play store, as the custom rom I'm currently using is a bit limited in that respect. However, the rom in question doesn't appear to support themer.
I was just wondering if people could recommend any good, working roms for this phone which support themer? The more customisable the better! Thanks

No you can't Run Themer Beta App in our phone because it requires 4.1 and up and even we doesn't have 4.0 so it is not possible to run it on any custom ROM.
So doesn't the fact that I'm running a user-made Jelly Bean (Android version 4.1.1) completely override that?
Thanks!

actually this is the main reason for the existence of roms!
most of the sammy based roms come with touch wiz but it is safe to remove once you installed another launcher (this is absolutely necessary(!)) but it does not use any resources when deactivated so this should be enough.
if you want to have a concrete recommendation I would definitely name the great NeatRom! You have the option to flash it and leave every checkbox in aroma unticked. I guarantee you, this will be absolutely slim and debloated! Have fun
Cheers
Without Touchwiz ?! Touchwiz can't be deleted so any ROM you flash to your phone is either based on an edited version of Touchwiz, or based on AOSP (Stock Android).
If you don't want bloatware or the Touchwiz UI go for Cyanogenmod, otherwise there're plenty of ROMS based on Touchwiz except without all of the bloatware and useless crap.
