I can't imagine it not getting worked on.
There's already a kernel replacement that does it on 1.28 devices and a kernel module that will disable it with the stock kernel. You can find them both in the international HTC One forums. Luckily for us the hardware of the AT&T version and the International is almost identical, so ROMs and even kernels are compatible. I'd say go for the kernel module as a safer option, but I'm not sure exactly how to install it.

I thought Koush reported that the normal HTCDev unlock for the One (AT&T+Sprint AFAIK atm) actually has /boot rw permissions added. You still can't flash radios, but apparently you can flash boot straight from recovery.

Yeah, that's the number. It should work just fine on your device, but there's currently an issue where you don't get sound in calls. Another developer has posted a new kernel that *should* give write access to system (S-Off) and doesn't have the issue now, but it has been said that it requires S-Off to install so I'm not really sure what's going on with that. I'll probably be trying it out tomorrow or Tuesday, but until then all I can give you is what I've read in the forums. For the most part, looking in the non-AT&T forums would probably be more useful than here because everything is compatible.

hello, with last night gingerbread leak many of us unrooted users or myself a rooted user who was to lazy to download the rooted verison because the download link was broken. are now stuck with know way of going back. now not everyone cares about beeing stuck but my self and others miss out of the option to root i personaly miss my bamf asop rom that i was falling in love with. from what i gather we are in a holding pattern at the moment i was wondering if any of the great devs over here had attempted or mad any progess in rooting this last leak or if we have found a method to role back to mr2 so we could root that. any insight would be appricated
Didn't alpharev and unrevoked just release a new method that works with the tbolt? I know they released its a beta, but it works on the inc2 with gb
Sent from my ThunderBolt using XDA App
i dont think that will work for the tbolt
Before saying it won't work on TBolt try it out. Also I believe it does work. I'm not sure if it will work with this new leak but it works on the TBolt from what I've seen.
i do apolgize the post went out before it was finished and because im new to this fourm i have to wait 5mins before making any changes. i would love to try it its worth a shot can someone post me a link and ill report back if it works
this is exactly why i do not install leaked radios or leaked shipped ruu's.
I know it works on the Inc 2 and I'm almost positive that it included the tbolt in the list of devices when your downloading the beta code. It allows you to root the shipped gb on the Inc 2, may work on this version of gb as well.

just trade your TBolt for an LG Revolution. everyone says that one's the best.
Just go over to the Inc 2 forum here on xda and in general section there should be a thread about rooting gb.

The Revolution and AlphaRevX sites appear to be down for the time being, so even if it does work, it won't without being able to obtain a key for the beta release through the website.
Assuming you still have S-off and a recovery, i.e. you didn't flash the RUU, all hope isn't lost. However if you did, I'm glad I'm not you at the moment.

rooting on gingerbread is pretty much the same process as before, just subbing out psneuter for fr3vo.
I GOT ROOT WOHO thanks to all xda is a amazing place
This is why I would encourage everyone who is rooted to install that hard patched hboot in the dev forum and this problem wouldn't exist. Also not flashing RUUs carelessly Helps but I digress. The only problem with the patched hboot is getting back to s-on is a bit harder. You have to use fastboot with a special command to flash an s-on hboot. Personally I think everyone who is rooted should learn how to use fastboot and ADB anyway but once again digressing. (prob not a real word LOL)
As far as fixing the issue hopefully the Revolutionary tool will still work on that build just have to check the hboot version. If not, as stated previously replacing psnueter with frEVO in the original downgrade process should work.
Edit: sorry a little late I suppose.

Anything with running on top of a Linux kernel can be rooted. And being all the sgs2 models were rooted
fairly quickly after they were released i'm sure it won't be long for the ATT sgs2.
Plus the source for the kernel has already been released which will just make it go faster.

Hopefully we don't run into as many issues as the Epic 4G Touch community. Their root method at the moment involves flashing a pre-rooted kernel. And this kernel randomly causes loss of service for many users. Luckily though they're CDMA and we're GSM. I wouldn't be surprised if we were able to borrow the root method from the I9100.

They did not have a working source for the e4gt kernel when rooting that last month. From the messages I've seen posted it looks like source for the ATT gs2 has been released which will make things allot easier - as long as it is an actual working source for a stock kernel for the ATT gs2 (fingers crossed)

We are going to need the same method (flash custom kernel). That's the only way to root the latest version of GingerBread. Hopefully it is done correctly since there are already existing ones from i9100.

The only root method I could get to work with the AT&T Galaxy 2 was the kernel method. My AT&T SG2 did work after flashing the non secure kernel and was rooted but I lost my Back, Search and Voice call ability.
Funny, I would think you would lose home and search, considering the international one has a back and menu capacitive buttons but no search button and a physical home...
... ... ...
AFAIK, if we can get a 1:1 dump of the stock kernel image, we can install the community one, install root, su, busybox, etc... and the flash the stock kernel back to restore lost functionality.
Yeah would be nice to have a one click root and root the SGII while your at the store. and tether your ThinkPad tablet.

I don't think that'll happen. A lot of the problems with the E4GT were not due to the device, but due to inexperience and lack of coordination of some of their developers. I can't believe how long it took them to figure out that you could root a /system dump and use that to extract a kernel from a stock device...
I'm still 50/50 on purchasing a device. If I do and alton987 gets the system dump I asked for in his thread, I think I'll be able to get a stock kernel extracted and /system rooted within a few hours of purchasing - again, if I decide to go ahead.
Might wait too... Luckily I'm in my thirty days. I can get it an play with it. I've heard phone call quality isn't as good ( it is a phone after all). That may be my tie breaker to keep my infuse untill the Galaxy 2 HD comes. Call quality was annoying on my captivate.

I have had some people complain about issues hearing me on the Infuse, although on stock ROMs you could disable Samsung Noise Reduction - there might be some tweaking in Gingerbread in this regard. Most GB kernels don't have the A1026 stuff enabled because:
1) It isn't documented at all
2) Device drivers in the root of menuconfig are scary - implies that they were put into the kernel in a half-assed manner
3) It's such a ***** to test it.
If there were a good way to test call quality with the Infuse I'd work the issue more.
Hey Guys,
I've had my T-Mobile Amaze 4G for almost a month now and HATE the bloatware on it. I really think it's killing my battery sooner than it should.
I am on WindMobile in Canada and Wind just released their Amaze 4G on Dec. 2nd.
Has anyone taken an image of Wind's stock ROM for the Amaze yet...and made it available for download?
I hear Wind has almost no bloatware and am wanting to use it.
The other Windmobile Amaze ROM's I've found on xda are all pre-release versions, hence I don't want to use them as I want to ensure I get the officially released ROM.
Thanks for all the help.
Cheers
Well, there are numerous solutions to your issue in question. If you flash any of the roms in the development section, most of them wont have any bloatware. If you'd rather stick with stock you can download root explorer (once your phone is rooted of course) and uninstall any offending apps from there. On my current rom i just got nearly two days worth of battery with light use without doing anything special to it =)
my bad x lol...

I have a Wind's Amaze, but without unlocked bootloader I've got no idea how to make a ROM backup. htcdev site refuses unlocking my bootloader
As for the bloatware - only Sense-integrated stuff presents.
By the way Sense 3.0 social networking integration looks pretty outdated - neither Google+ nor even Linked In present...

Ya...hopefully they'll unlock it soon.
Do you have the official Wind Amaze?
How is the battery life on that?
My T-Mobile has alot of bloatware that seems to be killing the battery.

This is 1 reason I want the Wind ROM.

Yes...you can flash the Canadian Windmobile ROM, Telus ROM, or any ROM made for the HTC Amaze 4G.
Unfortunately...we have no choice (at present) but to use HTC's method to unlock the bootloader.
We can't flash other ROM's without unlocking the bootloader first (from what I understand reading the posts here on xda).
The Wind ROM adds a Facebook app of some sort and ringtones, the Telus ROM adds Skype and one other app that I can't recall at the moment....
But neither have the amount of bloat that T-Mobile's ROM has.
I thought it could be flashed from the ruu
That's not my understanding...but am not 100% sure what an ruu does exactly or what the requirements are to use an ruu.
From reading xda, you need a custom recovery to install an ruu.
In order to flash a custom recovery...you need unlock the bootloader.
..or am I just confused?
Maybe Xboarder56 can elaborate on this a little??
I second what can we do without the unlocked bootloader?
My wife wants to upgrade from her Droid 3 which has a locked bootloader and can't run Cyanogenmod properly. We actually use PagePlus as a carrier, which uses the verizon network but doesn't support 4G LTE, so I had to do a bunch of hacks on my Droid 4 to get data to work at all.
I'll be buying this phone new or used from ebay or craigslist or similar, so I don't need to worry about subsidies or the like. I just want to be able to run Cyanogenmod (or another entirely open-source rom) easily in a supported way so I can be fairly sure it will be kept updated for the forseeable future. I would like to continue running the latest version of cyanogenmod for at least 2 years if possible, so it should be relativly beefy hardware as of now.
The people on #cyanogenmod recommended the GS3, but it does have a locked bootloader, though supposedly with a way to unlock it. They disagreed on whether you could actually unlock it still or not.
Thanks for any help or pointers you can give me!

Yes, you can do all those things.
GS3 come in various models and to get 4G you need to be on the good frequency, but since your carrier doesn't support it, it doesn't really matter I imagine.
Ideally it would still be a VZW GS3.
Now, before you tell me threads like this already exist please read. I have searched and I can't find anything that answers my specific questions.
I have a AT&T M8, and I unlocked, flashed TWRP, and CyanogenMod. I want to go back to sense. I am S-ON by the way.
I found a stock recovery image available here for the AT&T M8: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711814&page=2
Now, do I need to be S-OFF to flash that? I want to get stock recovery back.
Can someone point me to a thread to remove the tampered and relocked banner when I do follow through with this method?
One last thing, will my device always be S-OFF after following the steps?
I just want to get back to stock I really regret messing with my device. ?

For many, it is a step backwards. I came from a nexus device, which was unlocked and rooted. I figured that was the way to go so did it on my HTC One. I could have flashed a sense ROM, but why? Stock Sense did everything I needed. I thought I would like CM better but Sense 6 is really nice. It's just personal preference. If a good Sense ROM shows up, I may flash it. ?

For other variants, I would tend to agree. But the AT&T stock ROM is terrible. The amount of bloat alone convinced me to unlock the bootloader one day after I purchased the phone. Along with the gimped features (WiFi hotspot) and other AT& crap (the awful AT&T bar in the browser).
And just being on the stock ROM doesn't explain why you would want to get rid of the RELOCKED and TAMPERED flags, S-ON, etc.

I have most of the bloat disabled in settings, and with the apps I can't disable, I have hidden in Nova launcher. I wanted to get rid of the relocked and tampered just in case I need my warranty through AT&T. If I'm going to be on the stock ROM and have no intention to flash anything, I might as well make sure my warranty is valid just in case.
