Noob to the DNA. I have installed two different Sense 5 Roms on my unlocked and S-offed DNA and both of them I could not get the WiFi to lock on. It appeared they were trying and then I would get a WiFi error. NOS M7 2.0 and Sense 5 M7 Digital Dream ver 1.2. What should I look for first. I tried to reinstall both roms again without success. Always full wipe on both occasions.

First question are you s-off? If so, then reflash kernel in custom recovery, if you're not then flash boot.img in fastboot and modules in custom recovery. That issue is entirely caused by the lack of proper kernel modules installed in your system.

Okay, tried two different kernels flashed from TWRP and still getting the Wi-Fi error...what else should I try?

Um, are you sure you are s off. Because what is happening to you sounds like what happens when you are s on and you don't flash the boot.img of a kernel.

Hey guys I'm new to posting on here so forgive me if this is in the wrong area. I have rooted using HTCs method due to 1.5 hboot. From what I've gathered I cannot flash a kernel through recovery but when I do attempt to flash a kernel it says completed. For example if I flash a new ROM and I get the WiFi error message I flash another kernel then my WiFi works. My main question is am i really successfully flashing a kernel or does it just say it did. I would think if it wasn't working then my WiFi error would continue.
Thanks

I'm not sure which method you are using to flash roms.
But using this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239821
second post in the thread.
I've flashed many roms and kernels that way, after doing the htc unlock, and I've had no problems.

You got an accidental "thanks", congrats on your first lol.
If you go into menu>settings>about phone, your kernel is listed there. Good luck!
Thanks! I flash roms through TWRP recovery. When I attempt to flash a kernel I do it through TWRP as well. Is there a chance that I can successfully flash kernels through recovery even though I rooted htcs way? What I'm getting at is everyone seems to not like to root with htcs way but I'm not really seeing the drawback to it.

Each phone is quirky, so it's possible you got lucky, a S-off dev phone, or "like new" previously rooted phone. If it works, I wouldn't question it

I am not a noob to the forums, but don't have a post count to post in dev posts. I have tried to flash speed Rom, and several other from eclipse and sports but have never had a successful flash. They always boot loop, or have close issues with android. I am HTC bootloader unlocked via Hassons tool kit, using the latest version of 4ext. Started with stock ICS. I am running energy's Roms and they're fine. But I've never gotten anything else to function. Can some one tell me if I'm missing something. I've read all the way through the speed Rom post, and several others, but haven't found anything that seems to be my issue.

Full wipe, flash via 4EXT, if bootloop occurs, let it reboot itself at least once, if that persist, flash the kernel manually via hasoons tool or adb.

Thanks. 1 more question, I noticed that most people are running faux's kernel, is it required with speed rom or can I stay on the stock kernel? If required is it in the flashing process already?

You can stay stock. Faux's kernel is just another alternative. I recommend it however.

So I recently rooted my phone and I tried to install the CM 10.1 mod. I did everything correctly except I didn't backup my original rom. So now the custom rom won't boot up because it gets stuck at the HTC startup screen and stays there. I went back into the twrp and tried to re-install the custom rom and again it didn't work. Now I went back and all my files are gone including the custom rom! So basically I think that the phone is booting because there is nothing on there. I tried to change the recovery image back to the original htc rom according to htcevohacks.com and i tried doing a factory reset but it didn't work. is it possible to fix this if so how? Thanks.

If you can get into twrp you can mount usb storage and put the Rom zip back on and the reason it won't boot is because you are s-on you need to fastboot flash the boot.img first

ok so as you guys said I can put the rom back on and install it and I have tried it. I got the initial set up of the new rom but the touchscreen doesn't work. I tried 2 other roms too and the touchscreen doesn't work on all of them. Do i just have to keep trying out roms? If you guys could post any roms that you have tried before that'd be great. I just want my phone to run something right now.
Try running a ROM based on the 3.16 OTA such as ViperROM or MeanBean. What version of TWRP are you on?
Also note if you use either of the ROM's listed above, they have S-on kernel installers. Just follow the installation instructions.

Give it a shot. The 3.16 OTA included a touch panel driver update. If you have the updated driver you can only run 3.16 base ROM's and also must use TWRP 2.4+, otherwise, your touch panel won't work. If you gain S-off you can downgrade the driver and run whatever ROM you want.
Once S-off you don't have to fool with flashing the kernel separately, either

So according to the MeanBean developer the kernel installer is built in, so all i have to do is flash the .zip file and it will take care of everything correct?

I think, if I recall correctly, you have to flash the ROM zip twice. After you flash the first time, you will be prompted to flash it again.

Hey guys I have a note ii but one of my friends has an HTC One and she's having some trouble and I am unfamiliar with HTC stuff and need some help. She rooted and unlocked and has TWRP installed. I've tried flashing Roms thru TWRP and I can only get a stock build to flash sucessfully and even that failed on the first try but when I try to flash clean ROM it always fails and won't work. Any ideas what's going on? Thanks

Possibly an outdated twrp recovery. Try installing the newest version and see how that goes.

What all are you wiping in twrp? What rom are you trying to flash? Maybe she needs s-off?
Sent from my HTC One
Is her one S-off? If not, I believe you'll need to flash the bootIMG/kernel seperately thru fastboot . I'm guessing cuz I have HTC Evo LTE and it's the sane way if you're not S-off.
If you're unfamiliar, I bet there's guides stickied in general or Q&A.
Good luck.

I wipe everything when I do it. I've been rooting for a long time now and I'm pretty good but I've never owned an HTC device so I'm not sure how to check if she has s-off but she is rooted. I was able to flash a bone stock 4.3 ROM but I couldn't get clean ROM to flash

You Do NOT need s-off to flash any current ROM's on the one. And you don't have to flash kernels separately like on older htc phones, so don't worry about that.
Honestly I really don't see why your having trouble with clean rom... What exactly is it doing when you try to flash it?

Not sure what to do on this one and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'll start from the beginning. I was on m7 not having many issues and wanted to try some 4.4 roms. Went to flash beans, did full wipe etc and couldn't flash because of not having updated cwm. Was working and didn't want to mess with it too much so said nvm ill just restore back to m7 and fix it later. Md5 didn't match and couldn't restore at all. So I just rebooted and planned on starting over on m7. Once that kicked on I had no Google services at all. No gmail, play store etc. But I think (not 100%) that I still had service on the device. I downloaded cm10.2 and flashed gapps but once that booted up I had nothing. No data, wouldn't activate the device, only showed the number as all 0's. I have since flashed back to m7 to see if that was the problem but now that I'm back it's still not working at all. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm running to vzw to get a new Sim tomorrow just to cover all my bases. Thanks guys.

No I haven't. That's a good idea though. Once locked is it terrible to unlock again or just as easy as the first time?
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using Tapatalk
In development section, there is a flashable zip to lock and unlock the bootloader by Scotty. Be sure to plus rep him for all his work.
If you are s-off, it would be simple to install a custom recovery and re unlock again after you ruu.

RUU back to stock, get service on stock ROM, then clean flash Viper. Once that works then try restoring your Viper backup.

I went all the way back to stock and it didnt work, I even flashed the old bootloader and radio and no bones. Used the Ruu method listed in .torrents thread tried factory reset after installing stock recovery and nothing. Just roaming. Instead of wherever I may roam its forever I may roam?
