the phone is on stock att firmware but it is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked and still has att stuff on it.

something must be running in the background to cause it to heat up..check whats running in the back ground. have you tried rebooting it? what about the battery stats? do you have the charger plugged in too?
All devices get hot pretty fast these day.
Every recent device I have owned has done so. Phones are more prone to this as there are no fans in them and they pack very powerful processors.
Running flash videos will heat them up even faster..

True, but most phones get hot on the top my phone heated up the sides and the bottom too!

Well, that can't be help. HTC One's casing disperses the heat evenly to its entire body. That was also my impression when I first hands on, way too uncomfortable to hold in the hand.
Anyway, you should get a plastic case to deal with it
it's normal,every recent device like this,
my iphone 5, lumia 920,and nexus 4, all heats up really fast. maybe we can use it in icebox:laugh::laugh:
Mine got somewhat hot for the first 2 days, now it gets a little warm but thats normal.
Use power save....mine doeent heat up that much with it on

i bet it has a lot to do with the aluminum body - it makes a very good heat sink. plastic body devices retain the heat and insulate it from your touch. I bet the heat-sinking quality of the aluminum body will help with performance. just a thought.

im sorry but you dont know much about electronics making this extraordinary claim.
This happens in all sgs2, is this normal to happen? no, not even close, it is a mix of poor software engineering and drivers, most of the times you can play normally if you clear the ram, it works on gun bros and other titles.
Any other proper phone does not have this problem but this phone has been rushed out and has numerous flaws.

What you claim is incorrect.
Electrical components get hot because of the electrons that are "moving" inside the conductor, when they do that (the electrons) you get a side effect which is heat.
When you take an electrical device and push it to his limits, or in other words, USE IT, the temperature rises.
Take for example SanDisk Cruzer 8giga, you plug it in, his temperature is normal, you start copying files, lets say 4 gigs, plug it out and you notice it is now really hot.
so sgs2 isn't poorly made or has numerous flaws, basically unleashed12 is right, maybe you are some sort of a crybaby ?
can I say my ps3 gets hot when I play games on it, so does my pc, so does my broadband modem when its left on and my tv..you tellin me there all faulty??

Haha. Its not a design flaw. Games tend to be processer heavy hence the heat. Its perfectly normal for any electronic device when being used to high capacity to heat up a lot. Hence heat sinks and fans in computers and xboxes. Simple physics. Yes there are a few flaws in the phone but this is not.one of them.

Anyone experience this? I noticed when my phone is plugged in and i play a game for 5 mins the top half of my phone gets to 47-48 degrees... Almost too hot to hold. When I leave it alone it stays about 10 degrees cooler. Anyone know what might be causing this?

I didnt do anything to the phone.. This was a replacement from my original one that was randomly rebooting and freezing.. Im just worried i might damage the internals.. Anyways i called rogers for another replacement. They are sending it as soon as i return my original

I have tried three other Notes and they are all significantly cooler doing the same tasks. Like i said im worried about damaging internals.

Mine also gets hot. I recently upgraded my folks' phones to ATT Galaxy S II's (non Skyrocket) and they both get very hot when surfing on battery power via data. My battery monitor widget said 103'F at one point.
My Note also feels a little laggy (not hugely so) and has crashed a couple of times. The battery life is atrocious (coming from an iPhone 4)... I'm considering exchanging it at ATT as I'm still well within my 30 days. Rooting and freezing all the usual suspect apps hasn't helped.

Whats weird is that my original one didnt get hot but was laggy and freezing up. This ones the exact opposite.. Fast as hell and hot. Now i did a couple tests and the only difference was that the white on my current phone had a slight yellowish tint on the original. Battery life i get 12-17 hours on both.

On a sidenote just took my phone out of my pocket and while writing the last post phone got to 37 degrees and this is while it was off the charger... Anyways once Rogers recieves my original note they will send me a replacement to my replacement lol.. Anyone know if i get three lemons would I be entitled to a new unit? I know carriers used to do that.

My first note would her extremely hot between 117f and 130f while idle on a charger from the top half up. Used a thermal temp sensor from my liquid cooling to measure temp. According to a friend of mine manager at an att, said the heat problem is the biggest for return and that from what he's found out talking a Sammy rep that the cpu and memory in some units through shipping and handling have been loosened from their respective heat transfer system.
So basically manufacture defect and if it gets hot replace it. It'll hurt the internals.

feel bad for the ones having all the problems.....its hard for me to get my phone to even reach 40C and thats while watching movies and pausing and making calls. the playing a game. i have to do ALOT to get it that hot.
i have noticed the pocket thing though, if i keep it in my jacket pocket it seem to get hotter faster even though i am not doing anything on it at all. but it goes right back down again after i pull it out for about 3 min.

Battery Drain is the same as my first phone, but runs a little bit cooler (gets to about 100-104 degrees). I only used it to surf xda(total of about 30min) and to make calls, so I don't understand why the phone should get past 95 degrees.
Even before I rooted and changed to new RUU on the second phone it ran a little warm just off a phone call (about 98 degrees and the convo was only 15min long).

That's the way the phone runs. 105 isn't that hot anyway. Stop making new threads about the same thing, and either pick a different phone, or get over it. I don't really know what else to say.

Trying to find one that is perfect is like a needle in a haystack apparently...
You are going to have to use your exchange duration until you find that magical one. Nothing we can tell you will fix heat issues out of the box.
I am not just trying to pick on you... the rezound does seem to run warmer than other smartphones and the screen sucks alot of juice when on.
If you are not hitting 120 you don't have a problem.

I understand, but I wasn't asking for a fix. I know the heat issue is more of a hardware issue then software. I just don't want to have to run into problems later if I just try and stick it out, but anyways I got the replacement and the phone is steady at 88-95 A LOT better. I'm Satisfied

I Know i would of easily hit 120 if i would of used my phone for more then a hour... I was going up 2 degrees every 20 min or so

your car heats up really fast as well but doesn't overheat does it??? It gets to a temp and stablizes. For mine, on 4g, it will hit 115-120 if I'm streaming, about 105-110 just surfing the web. It's just the way these phones are. Either deal with it or move on.
Mine never goes over 110, and has only hit 115 once, knock on wood.
105 seems normal.

I didn't know my car heated up fast lol. Ur phone is not mine nor did it stabilize at a certain temp... And no I will not "deal" with it that is why I got another phone that does not have the issue my old phones did. Which proves I had two defective phones, and that the phone is capable of being a lot cooler

I have a RAZR that has gone all the way to 144F. it's been 115F just being in my pocket. I tryed for a rez, but I am geting a refurb RAZR in 3-5 days.
The tems are a bit hot, but if your on 4G it's ok. My s2 avg 90-98f and maxs out at 120F. (You really need to be doing a lot to hit 120F on that phone.)

ive never had the battery overheat issue but the battery life on the rezound is worse for me than my tbolt was. hopefully some future custom kernels will fix this.
My phone never gets above like 85. The only time it is warm is when it first boots up. Give it five minutes and it is cold as ice. Even on 4g.

I'd say 8/10 ppl's Rezound can easily over 100 while streaming/playing a game etc. It seems to be a norm for this phone... While on my Gnex streaming I'm only at like 86.

Every equipment produces heat according to the stress being caused to it, your "light" usage of the equipment + your own body transmitted temperature = warm feeling
You may say you never felt it before on your other cellphones and probably the reason is related to the material used ?
The main reason for my answers to sound like this is that I'm tired of Q&A threads appearing here, if this was an issue there's a specific single thread for it! I just enjoy reading a clean and organized forum!!
Don't worry, it's normal. CPU clock ramping up a bit to accomodate for the activity and smooth operation.
are you in a place with low reception? maybe the phone is struggling finding signal

I don't have the phone (yet ) but I don't think it's just you. Every dual-core phone, last year, had heating issues. I'm afraid that the quad core Exynos won't be an exception.

It's probably cos you described it as an 'issue'. It kinda implies that it's something that's not meant to happen, rather than something that's entirely normal and expected.

Install a CPU Temperature monitoring app and just keep an eye on things. I doubt its anything to worry about lol. My last dual and single core phones used to get warm with normal usage.
lol @ whino's that can't post anything helpful and feel butthurt when someone has a genuine query regarding their product. If you can't post anything useful, dont post and find another way of relieving your pent up stress.

badass battery monitor keeps an eye on temps.. mine has not strayed above 32c which i think is pretty good .
we will feel the heat in these phones as the power of the processor is going up and the phones are getting more compact and thinner meaning heat source will be closer to the surface of the phone
Heat/temperature issues was one of the reasons why the wireless charger got delayed, by the way.
I have exactly the same issue...my Galaxy SIII gets warm at the lower back, even without making any phone calls...just twitter and whatsapp. I think this is not normal.. with the temperature apps it shows that it's 38 C...this is while not charging it...while charging it becomes 44 C.
Do you think I should return and exchange it?

Have you tried the temperature apps like battery watch? May I ask you what degree is your device?
My phone still gets warm even without using while in my pocket.. It reaches 34 C without using it! Is this normal guys? Do you get such heat? When I use it reaches 44 C. Do you suggest I return it?

but if your s3 is placed in the sun it is getting very hot and it will reboot by itself.
happend to me. i had to pull out the battery to stop the re-re-reboot process
I have yet to feel any significant heat on the S3, even while charging. My S2 on the other hand would get warm frequently but it never bothered me.

It overheats with the overheat app it comes with. I managed to bake a potato in one full charge.
Compared to my old HOX, the SIII is a fridge.
It warms up ever so slightly if you run some benchmarks on it but its the equivelant temperature to breathing on your own hand.

Today while charging the phone I dropped it in a bag of unpopped kettles. Guess what I have now. Popcorn. Boy does this phone overheat.
Yeah, I was just confirming if it was a fluke. According to him the phone even overheats while making call which IMO is not possible.

Years ago, I got the Iphone 4 and you had to put a cover on it because of the antenna issue.
I get the S3 and to protect it, i get a cover and within no time, after putting it on the phone, the phone overheats, locks up, lags,
If i am charging it, it locks up. I was driving shortly after i put the case on, and it kept making noise but i was driving so i couldnt look at the phone. then once i got home. i noticed it locking up and really warm, bottom right hand corner.
This really sucks as i love the phone but I do know, overheating like this is not good for electronics and will lessen their lifespan.

I just started looking for sensor apps and only found one so far, and it just shows battery temp which hoovers around 93F.

It gets rather warm when it running stuff that puts quite some load on CPU, GPU whateverPU, yah, but not to an extend where one could call it "overheat".
So far it's always been below 50°C - I think that's a "no" on the original question.
