I've been searching for a solution to put together an Android based torrent server. Was wondering if anyone had any advice.
I've been using uTorrent on my Nexus 4 and it's a great little machine for that, but of course 16GB is a bit small for storage. I was looking at solutions like the ODroid to have a super low power system that could run 24/7.
I know that running torrents off an external USB drive is a good way to burn the drive out with all the accessing for seeding, etc... would there be able software solutions that would download torrents, seed them and when that quota is met move the files over to an external drive? Or would there be any way of connecting a drive via eSATA or something that would make the drive less susceptible to burning out?
I suppose I could just run an android device with a large microSD card and then manually move the files over. But it would be great to have an automatic solution.

check out the raspberry pi. A lot of people use it as a 24/7 downloading box/torrent server.

I just received my G Tab yesterday (non-woot) and so far I love it. I installed CWM then flashed Vegan. Something about it didn't feel right, so I switched over to TNT Lite 4.4. I also installed Launcher Pro and have figured out how to use it to customize my "desktop" a little. Basically I have a few random questions.
1) Is there a way to disable the "dock" screen?
2) Is there a way to disable the lock screen that comes up after the screen has turned off?
3) Any recommendations on a good replacement for MS Office that can open, edit, and create documents that are compatible with Office?
4) Any recommendations on a good remote desktop app I can use to access files and software on my laptop?
5) Any recommendations on a compact, portable, hopefully inexpensive Bluetooth mouse?
6) How do I copy files from my laptop to my external micro SD card? Do I have to put the micro SD card into my laptop, or can I leave it in the tablet and copy them somehow? When I plug the tablet into my laptop it only appears to give me access to the internal SD.
7) Any other random apps I should look into getting? I plan to use my G Tab to basically replace my laptop, which I only ever use for surfing the web, email, facebook, etc.
8) In particular, any particular apps I should get for playing video/audio files?
9) Is there a tutorial somewhere I can read about how to find movies and get them onto my tablet to watch?

Have tried to connect Tab 10.1 to my mac but no joy. Apparently OS lion doesnt support kies BUT can i connect via usb in the same way i would on galaxy s 2? I cant find any info anywhere to help.
I want to transfer files from mac to tablet and using bluetoothis too slow due to file size.

don't know about the usb hookup but i'm running osx leopard and found that the easiest way to connect to my macbook is with an ftp connection. i'm using cyberduck (free) on my macbook and an app called file expert on my tab. file expert is like astro, but it allows you to share files via an ftp connection.
once you get it set up your tab file tree will show up on your macbook screen and then you can just drag/drop from finder. the whole setup process took me like 5 minutes...
on my home wifi network i'm getting transfer rates of about 3mps. a little slow for huge files, like movies, but perfectly fine for anything else. it's actually really nice not having to hook up with a cable. i may just use this as my go-to setup even when android file transfer get's updated for the tab.
if you google it there's a thread somewhere that details how to set this up...

If you are wanting to sync with files and playlists in iTunes, i use iSyncr. There are free options for USB amd WiFi as well as Mac/PC. The full versions are only $.99 if i recall. Ive used it on my Hero, Evo, Epic, Transformer, and now Galaxy Tab10.1. I have synchronized videos, podcasts, and music. Not really tried photos. Another useful function: it has an option to push new photos, amazon mp3, and video files from your android device to your computer.
The developers are responsive and nice to deal with. So I highly recommend as this solution as stood the test of time and Android updates. That says alot as ive noticed some apps can easily fall off the market or become out of date.

I have a big problem with this box and I hope someone with experience will be able to help...
I got a 2TB hard drive to use as media storage (videos, music, pictures...) with my Mi box, but it seems there is no way I will be able to do that, I hope someone will prove me wrong.
What is possible is:
- for the box to hijack the whole drive, encrypt it and use it as internal storage. Unacceptable because I want to be able to use the drive with the data on other systems in case I want to transfer files (I don't even want to try transferring 2TB of data over wifi) and in case something happens to the box or I decide to upgrade to a different one, all my data would be lost.
- to use the external storage as read-only, which is useless, I might as well connect it to my TV then and play the contents...
I want to be able to download stuff to it in Android. For instance I could just remotely send torrent files to it while out and about and by the time I get home they would be downloaded. Or I can set all my pictures to be synced with a folder on that drive...
Regular versions of Android generally don't have a problem with this, but Android TV seems to lack the in-built Documents Android file manager functionality that allows for writing permissions once you select the drive (or an SD card) from within an app like Flud for example.
I was hoping upgrading to Nougat would fix this problem, but it seems it won't. The nVidia Shield has the same problem, but it's rootable and using the SDFix app when rooted saves the day.
Rooting would also allow me to use my PS4 controller with the box and other fun stuff, so I really wouldn't mind doing it, but a lot of people had bad experiences with rooting the Mi Box, so I would do it only if I'm sure it'll work.
Does anyone have any suggestions or is this a hopeless endeavour?

an app called airexchange allows you to access your tv box over your wi-fi and do anything you need, download, delete, move...this is the only and easiest way i found to transfer files from my mi box 4 to my pc. might help. just download and follow the instructions, super easy to use.
So, today im back with another guide, today ill be teaching you how to turn your Android TV Box into a personal Cloud!
A few of you may ask, why? Well theres a few reasons
1. These devices run off a 5v power supply
2. For the price they are, its definately the cheapest alternative to purchasing cloud space
3. For the specs, they are quite impressive
4. Not only can you use wifi, but these devices have LAN aswell
So for anyone who wants to do this, simply check out my youtube video, it takes a total of less than 2 minutes to set up(Deducting all my explaining)!

Step by step -
1. Download and install SSHDroid on your device from the playstore or link below
2. Open the app, if the service is not started, click start at the top right, the status should change to ready
3. Download the setup server files i created from below and open the SetupServer.bat file
4. The script will prompt you for an IP address, in the SSHDroid app besides address you will see something like [email protected]:2222 your IP address is inbetween "[email protected]" and ":2222", in this case 192.168.1.109, type it in and press enter
5. You will notice 2 scripts are generated from that and a file, you can then run the CloudFileManager.bat or the CloudTerminal.bat depending if you wanna upload/download files from your cloud or do things within terminal
If you do wanna access the server from your device, you can download ESFileExplorer, open it and open the FTP tab
Click "add" and choose SFTP, then input the details that the script generated in details.txt
You can then transfer files between your phone and cloud!

Okay got it mostly setup and can access via my desktop. Just trying to work out a way to make it network accessible to Kodi on my main android box. Same network of course

I used Armbian+apache2(with PHP7.2)+Nextcloud server before but your cloud is runing on Android right? This is good idea. May be need a NAS drive like 2TB for storage. Android devices got poor wifi performance. I recomend LAN connection for cloud.

seems to be very minimal difference between WIFI and LAN, im guessing its using the hardware at its limit, i got 2.9mbps upload speed while the Beeting S1 was using an SSD as primary storage(apollo lake processor and 4GB RAM with Samsung evo SSD)
if i find a way to improve performance i will let you know, i just feel using TV box as a cloud server is a very efficient way of doing things for both the price, simplicity and flexibillity

There are good webservers for android that support php/database. I guess we can install Nextcloud. I'll try at my spare time.

What im saying is i think its a hardware limitation, the processors and the amount of RAM your device has will surely limit speeds(Upload/Download) somewhat.
I just have no idea what the limit is, but then again my internet is actual trash so you may be right, who knows

You need to open the port it uses in your modem or router. The use your external IP and the port to connect to it outside of your network. Password protect everything though to be safe.
P.S. can anyone reupload the files?

1. I am looking for a solution for my media craving and hobby and collection.
Is there a existing solution that allows to use a FTP Server to be setup and used as well as recognized as if it is a SD card?
I want to use this because I own a wireless hard disk with Wi-Fi that can be a ftp server.
And I want to use it as if it is a SD Card.
2. If possible also use the SD card in my device as cache for the FTP server on connection drops.
The combination would allow for downloading media to the FTP thus the wireless harddrive.
I own all server and related apps by Ice Cold Apps in Playstore but I am not knowledgeable on them.
Mentioning them in case it might be usefull.
