[Q] Games with CM and other custom roms - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
One of my friends wanted to try out a customrom for his S2, cause he wasn't satisfied with the performance of the stock rom.
So i installed him cyanogenmod from 19.04.13
Now he is sad cause it looks like there are some issues with mali-driver so some games (for example this stupid and his favored game Simpsons TappedOut) will not work with cyanogenmod.
Are there other customroms who have no problems with these mali drivers?
Or is there any work around?
Or does he have to choose between Customrom without some games and stockrom with bad performance?
Thx for your answers, guys
Moraven
.

Try alliance as its custom sam rom with loads of thing to change .its 4.1.2 but best of both worlds. 4.2.2 iv tryed. Wasnt impressed.

try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1847600
dungeon hunter 4 real racing 3 simpsons tapped out etc all games are working without problem

Instead of naming your own favourite roms, just advice to flash a custom rom based on stock JB It has the best performances (don't know which version the guy had before?) because of Project Butter, and there are a few, some named above me, who can be customized. Just read the threads and try some.

Why not. Whats the harm in that. Whats wrong with what I put. Did put about custom sam roms too. I spent alot of time looking for a rom that has the lot.

There is no harm, but I meant the choice is up to the OP. I've tried the latest Alliance too, and I personally didn't like it. What I mean is the advice is the Samsung-part, and the choice of the specific rom is up to yourself

Can I ask ....what rom are you on atm. Alliance is cool. And ok I understand what you ment. Also I did put about the custom sam rom.:thumbup:

I like the concept of Alliance very much, but I experienced some lag and slower responsiveness than other Samsung-based roms. Now I'm on Omega.
I know No offence.

Choosing between Omega and Alliance is tough mates! I chose Omega because I love the walking droid boot animation!

Thx for your answers, guys!
AllianceRom is based on ICS, so this is no option.
OmegaRom looks nice and ill ask him if he wanna try, but i have seen that the Rom has abot 600MB.
Looks like there is much Bloatware included.
main reason to change to Cyanogenmod was to get a clean, small and fast Rom.
Anyway, it's his decision what he wants to have and im sure Omega is still much better than stock.

Nope, Alliance is for JB also mate. Check again..
Stock JB 4.1.2 roms all have huge size, not because of bloatware, but because of the preload partition and new features like multiwindow, etc.

Edit: ok, have seen that chameleon is also samsung rom based so it will also support the games.

[Q] Best ROM for SGS II?

I'm looking for a ROM for my i9100. I'm growing tired of MIUI (original and galnet) bugs. I'd prefer the one that has TW4 on it. I love CyanogenMod's options, but I prefer TW4 over Android stock.
Any suggestions?
Try Leomar Revolution
i try all rom and it's the best for me
Tw can't be the only thing you need there must be more
Try OMEGA ROM
Try ForumSearch ROM v6.9. It's the best I've used so far. There's also AH_WhoCantSearch ROM, but I wouldn't recommend it, it's really unpopular.

[Q] Couple of questions about changing kernels and flashing a new rom - Samsung GS3

Hi guys,
I was wondering if someone could help me with my quest for information?
I own a (Unbranded/Unlocked) Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 International
I'm running Android 4.1.1 at the moment.
Buildnr: JRO03C.I9300XXDLIH
Baseband: I9300CEDLI1
The problem is i have been using my GS3 for a couple of weeks now, and i can't stop noticing how laggy the device itself is.
I don't have alot of apps installed and the memory i used is 1.5GB. I managed to root it 3 days ago. I used the S3 TOOLKIT V6.0 (Found @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488).
Back in the days i owned a HTC Desire with CyanogenMod running on it. And i never had lag problems with my HTC. So i would like to try a custom rom for my GS3. I read about alot of custom roms and about kernels to. Alot of people use the Siyah kernel.
So question(s) 1: Can i use the Siyah Kernel for my SG3 or is my current one good enough to stay on it? + How can i accomplish changing the kernel? (Via ODIN?) (I searched the web and found some tuts, but i don't want 2 do it because it is from months ago. Is there a updated tut?)
Question 2: CM10 for SG3 looks nice but is still a nightly build and not a stable build, so which of the massive amount of custom roms is a good replacement for the SG3? (A nice noob proof tutorial would be nice too )
Well thanks in advance for the guys who will help me. I hope you don't think i'm lazy or something. I have searched and searched forever. I have browsed alot of webpages, i even watched youtube vidz . I just don't want to do something wrong and end buying a iPhone again instead. I would like to be more in the android scene, so if u guys would help me in the right direction, i would be very thankfull. :good:
1. Siyah kernel works with any Samsung based or cm10 roms and yes bits amazing. As for flashing it look under the original android development section and the thread is there with a link for a cwm file. Obviously install with cwm.
2. Your not supposed to ask which is the best rom in these forums there is rules against it, but I use omegas rom, it is Sammy based and is smooth as hell. Your best bet is to search through the roms and see what you like.

So if i use the omega rom wil it include the Siyah kernel? And what about touchwiz, does omega have it?

No it doesn't come with it just download it from the thread and flash it with cwm. And yeah omega comes with touch wiz but if you don't like the looks of it you can always use holo locker and holo launcher HD for the stock android look. that's what I do.

Greetings all, i'm a noob on this forum
I have Galaxy S III International version, and using leaked JB 4.1.2 right now. When using Siyah kernel v 1.8 it's a bit laggy, not snappy!
A lot of members in this forum said that 4.1.2 is snappier than 4.1.1. Is Siyah kernel the problem here? need advice. :fingers-crossed:
I'm using siyah 1.8 and it seems perfectly fine. Don't know why it would be laggy try asking in the siyah forum

Confusions should go away once you start reading mate! Not just guides, search and read other members' experiences too!
You need a custom recovery to flash NeatROM. For that you have CWM recovery that comes with Siyah. So no need to change kernels.

I thought that the question was legitimate... I took it as OP asking about the gaming bug in 4.2.2 roms. As far as I know, only Carbon ROM has managed to sort that out. Give it a try. I can't remember what build it was fixed in though sorry.

The question is legitimate alright. But soon we will start seeing posts saying 'this ROM is better than that' or 'that rom-kernel combination works way better'... I just gave a gentle warning before those posts start coming. If this question was really wrong, I would have reported it.
But I agree with you.. Carbon ROM is what the OP is looking for.. :good:

We don't know, neither of us use carbon. You might have to do some reading the problem has been fixed for a little while now I think, so flashing the latest build/recent release you should be good. But still read for whatever bugs are possibly in the last release. I've got no idea, as I said, I don't use it.
yeah i've been reading... kinda like carbon rom.. but im more to avatar rom... theme changer and brightness control on status bar... the gaming bug have been fix?... i've been searching, only 4.1.2 that have no bug in gaming for i9100... not 4.2.2.. haish... flash 30times already.. need stable rom and stay on it XD
Err. I already did tell you. Carbon rom is the only 4.2.2 ROM which has the gaming bug fixed. So you have 3 options as I see it...
1. Use carbon rom 4.2.2, play games with no crashing.
2. Use other 4.2.2 rom of your choice but don't game on it.
3. Use 4.1.2 Sammy based ROM of your choice.
If you really want, chameleon rom is 4.1.2 Sammy based but themed to look like AOSP. Could be worth a look.

will go with the carbon rom tonight and see how its goes... check if carbon rom have bug... :3...

flashed wrong version of performence x mod

so im using, neat rom and appollo kernal, i flashed the cm version, weird thing is my phone is working fine, can i just flash the correct version over it ?
thx
There is a TW Neat and a AOSP Neat. Seems you have the AOSP Neat.
Anyway just dirty flash your rom again and it will overwrite the kernel.

The one you will keep is a matter of personal preference. On the Galaxy S2 I use the AOSP version. It is lighter and you get Android 4.4.4. I do not like or use any of the Samsung crapware.
For starters keep the kernel that comes with the rom. It is more than good enough.

so youre saying with the performence x mod i can use stock or the cm version? im on jelly bean 4.1.2 and yeah i decided to stay with the apolo kernal
yeah i still dont understand even after reading all through the pages of the performence mod, some people say i need the stock version if using neat rom, im guessing because its a stock based rom but he says if its a stock firmware to use the stock rom wich is what i thought at first
currently im using the stock version of performence x mod but id just want to know for sure im using the correct one for the best experience, im using the apolo kernal that came with the lite version of neat rom, on jb 4.1.2, but now im thinking i need the cm version because he says this
This engine works on any devices with any rom, but there is a version for CM's rom and one for stock based firmwares. So, CMx.x, Lewa Os, MIUI, etc.
Install the stock version only on your stock firmware of your phone....
if your device don't have gingerbread or ICS officially, install the CM version (This also applies to the AOSP)
Stock means the Samsumg Touchwiz Rom that comes with phone. Could also be a custom modified TW rom like Omega or NeatROM.
AOSP based roms are Slim, Paranoid, CM, Liquid, Omni, ... and, of course, AOSP Neatrom.
To further clarify, there are two NeatROms:
- Samsung Stock Based: [ROM][Aug 26][XWMS3] NeatROM
- AOSP Based: [ROM][Sep 25][4.4.4] I9100 AOSP NeatROM (Based on Slim rom)

thx for the detailed explanation mate, by the way i just installed the neatrom version you suggested with kitkat 4.4.2, i think the one i was using was a bit out of date, i like how light it is, lol it literaly comes with nothing installed really, anyways so i take it this aosp neatrom will use the cm version of the performence x mod then?
That is correct. AOSP NeatRom with CM version of PurePerformance.
If I were you I would use the rom for a few days before applying the mod. That would allow you to really feel if it will make a difference and if it is worth using it.

ah ok thx for the advice, im kinda not likin this one though mate, its a bit to bare for me, for a start i cant find the power save toggle no more lol, also it removed the default samsung galaxy music and video player wich i really liked and cant seem to get back, ive looked and cant find the stock one anywhere, there the 2 main things bothering me, i like to get rid of as much bloatware as possible. because then you can just have the stuff you want, but the stock music and video player were pretty decent
one other thing i went and installed the latest apolo kernal too, its the one for kitkat, had to update my gpu mali driver to install it, i just want the stock sgs2 music and video player back mainly now and ill be good
Samsung apps rely on Touchwiz framework. You can not run them under an AOSP rom.
If you feel you must have them, you have to use a TW rom, could be the TW neat rom.
I use these apps:
Video Player: MX Player - XDA thread MX Player
Music Player: Poweramp Music Player

Glad to be able to help.
In this case I am not sure what to do. The S 2 I have is beeing used by my son and he out for two weeks.
Usually AOSP roms will allow you to suppress or change the network name. It is a status bar option called "Carrier Label" or something similar. I know it is not the best solution but it is what I can think of at this moment.
If possible please post a screenshot with the place where tmobile name is showing.
Not a problem mate apparently T-Mobile are same as virgin or something like that I read. Phone works fine. I put the kh3 modem on it too so that's probably why.
also you were rite about trying it without the performence mod, i did a tuntutu test before and after and with it, it lags like hell and i get 15000 and without it i get 17181 wich from reading everyone elses is pretty good, though i know benchmarks arnt accurate, its in game you get the results not these tests, but it can play gta san andreas well and thats what i wanted from it anyways, cant afford one of the newest ones
and theres not many games out that take advantage of the expensive ones yet anyways, games are gonna get good on these phones though thats for sure, maybe ill think about getting a better model when theres loads of decent games i cant play
atm i can play real trigger 2, real racing 3, though real trigger 2 on lowest settings for a smooth performence, gta 3 , gta san andreas overall pretty chuffed with this phone so far
oh and thx for the poweramp recomendation mate, its better than the samsung one, one last question, is it possible to get one of the stock weather widgets at all? can you not switch to the touchwiz launcher or something?
