Hi everyone,
im using rooted Vibrant with miui rom and currently with a post paid unlimited 4G Tmobile plan.
Most of my internet data comes from home wifi so im not using much of unlimited plan unless when i am outside.
Can i use third party wifi tethering apps without being tracked or noticed by Tmobile ?
has anyone experience this?
pls let me know your experience. thanks a lot.

I just want some confirmation here (after reading every possible thread on it)
Is there a fix/solution or way around the tethering and wifi hotspot.
Before I go and upgrade my line for this phone I want to make sure that I can use Wifi Hotspot.
I am currently on the MT4G and can't live without hotspot.
I am not the only one who connects to my phone for internet.
I definitely need to know that it will work without me having to pay extra for tethering AND wifi hotspot.
Please let me know if you can personally confirm that you got both tethering AND wifi hotspot working.
Thanks a lot guys.

Hello folks,
I have a rooted Atrix 4G 2.3.6/4.5.141. Recently installed Nebtop 1.3 to get Webtop to work on my LCD TV. I got everything to work but freaked out when a message regarding tethering popped up (I do not have the dock nor tethering plan). My Wifi was turned off and I obviously could not connect to the internet since I do not have a tethering plan.
A couple of questions. I read something a while back about ATT forcing a tethering plan if they see that you placed the phone into the dock without subscribing to a tethering plan. Is this true? Is there any way they will force some kind of a tethering fee now that I hooked it up to the LCD TV?
-If I turn on Wifi, will I be able to browse the internet? If not, what will I need to enable this?
-Assuming I don't have Wifi, I will need a hack to enable tethering. Which method do you folks recommend?
Many thanks for all of the help and I apologize for any stupidity in advance .
Use WiFi and you won't need to worry about tethering. If you tether without a tethering plan there is always a chance they will catch you.
How will they find out that I'm tethering though if it was disabled right off the bat? Are you referring to hacking/excess data usage?
Is it true that if I use the built in Android browser and not Firefox, i will still be able to access the internet (without relying on Wifi)?

As the title says I'm having trouble setting up pdanet fullversion to work properly. I've been reading a lot the past 2 days since I got this phone on tethering with it. I have the grandfathered unlimited data plan which complicates this. Ive also read that verizon has done something so that tethering apps in the playstore wont work for unlimited data plans (guessing this is why i cant use pdanet)?
Anyone tethering successfully with unlimited data plan and this phone?
Do i have to root my phone and flash a custom ROM on it to be able to use PDAnet?
Please help.
Anyone?
I have done wireless tethering w my unlimited data plan
I have not tried pdanet or wired tethering
You can only tether if ur rooted using the app wireless tether
You cannot use the built in hot spot cuz verizon will say you need to buy the monthly service even if ur rooted
I am unlocked rooted and on ukb 1.21
Using wireless tether
Put your settings on generic ics/jb wlan0
And force wifi driver reloading

Not sure whats going on, but my go-to way for avoiding hotspot paywalls recently stopped working.
Nothing on my side has changed. I'm still using my same personal OpenVPN server with the same config files.
I did change laptops recently, but I double checked with Wireshark, all packets coming in and out are OpenVPN packets with a few TCP packets sprinkled in there. No way you T-Mobile can tell what the packets are really for.
Has anyone else noticed this? I'm thinking T-Mobile has switched to tracking tether usage by using the phone itself to report it.
If thats the case, I could probably get around it by rooting and using a custom ROM with its own hotspot app (like CM). Right?
But meh... I'm happy with the phone as it is right now.
All the Carriers are cracking done on tethering. And I don't think switching to CM will help. I'm with you I love Sense to switch to CM
If you have the T-Mobile my account app installed it's tracking what your doing. As for tethering, I have the truly unlimited, no tether included plan, and tether with out a problem.

So if I uninstall the my account app, they cant track it?

Click to collapse
The tracking function requires user permission, which I have not done...
You could try paying for a service that you use
That's an option or use the work around and get it for free, after all you are paying for the data. Why not use it as you please.

Hi All,
I'm interested in wifi tethering for my cellphone, but the information provided for the various tethering aps on google playstore website is somewhat incomplete.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 cellphone with a Verizon unlimited talk, text and data plan. I pay an extra charge each month to allow very limited wifi tethering, but it limits my tethering usage to 4 GB per month. MY PHONE IS ROOTED!!
I notice ALL wifi tethering aps require me to enable wifi tethering in my cellphone's settings menu. This is unsuitable because Verizon knows I am using the phone for tethering. I looked in the free and the paid aps listings.
I'm looking for an ap that does not use the phone to set enable wifi tethering from the phones setting menu. In other words, I do NOT want Verizon to know I am using their phone to do tethering for my other wifi devices.
Any suggestions are appreciated, perhaps I'm not searching for relevant keywords??
Thanks,
AG
I've been using foxfi to tether for at least a year now. I use at least 100 gigs every month watch Hulu and Netflix. I've haven't heard anything from them about it. I dont know if they can tell. I've never heard of anybody getting any hassle about foxfi. I think there is an xposed module that might work I can't think of the name of it. Might check it out. Good luck
