[Q] Flash to Stock ROM - Remove Branding - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I'm aiming to remove all the branding from my SGS3.
If I follow the guide below, will it remove all the branding and still let me update OTA in future? Also I am already on 4.1.2 so will this cause a problem?
Its a UK Orange branded phone 4.1.2 I9300BVELK1
android.gs/update-galaxy-s3-official-jelly-bean-4-1-2-xxemb5/
Thanks
Chris

List will show latest firmware .
Kies will only update if the phone provider has updated for your phone not because other users have later version or their is a later stock rom or you have not followed the upgrade path .

What if the device is not belong to carrier? Its unbranded phone..

[Q] Need Help with a Debranded SII

Hi Folks,
I did a little search before posting this thread and could quite find what I was looking for. I apologise now if I've overlooked threads regarding this.
I swapped my uk international Black S II for my other halfs White O2 branded S II.
I proceeded to debranded it by flashing PDA: XWKI4 | PHONE: XXKI1 CSC: XEUKH2 from Intratech via odin then did a factory reset and wipe cache in recovery mode. It was previously running PDA: XWKJ1| Phone: XXKI4 CSC:O2UKJ1
Ok, My Problem...
I Was paranoid about the 3G/HSDPA connection not being as fast as it was on my black uk international version. Ya know what its like when ya convince yourself theres something wrong with your phone. I'm not sure if I needed to also flash a kernal?
I then sent a text to O2 to send through settings for internet.Received the configuration settings, installed and then restarted the phone. After coming back on it had a massive drop in battery life. (See attached image). Could this also be due to the kernal?
What have I done wrong? Would I just be better running the O2 firmware?
Also, the White SII was made in China, and the black one Korea. I kept the battery from the black one and put it in the white one. (Battery also made in Korea) and vise versa.
All the apps i have installed are exactly the same as I had on the black one, and never had any battery draining problems.
Any advice would be greatly welcomed.
Thanks.
Warren
The answer is on the Stock ROM thread:
Used XXKI3 modem in this package as I compared it to XXKI4 and whilst performance was similar on O2 network XXKI3 was more efficient when it came to battery life.

That might be the cause of your phone's hunger for battery.
If I flash that Kernal won't I lose the ability to update unbranded firmware through kies? Could post the link to that thread please?
Did I debrand the phone incorrectly?
Thanks.

I apologised in my first post. I had already read through some of that thread as I flashed my black SII all the time. Think I may just flash O2 firmware back. This thread helped alot.

[Q] Official firmware from other country

So, ok, I'm a newbie and I am sorry for not finding the answer to this question, but I have tried! I've flashed Samsung's leak of Jelly Bean on my N7000. As the official JB is on its way, I want to go back to stock ICS. I am from Serbia. The question is: can I flash official ICS from other country and get the JB update when that country does or I have to flash Serbia's stock ICS? Thanks!
Partially
If country Created the official rom so you can do this otherwise no chance
A bit confused now...

Flashing the stock firmware via Odin (Assuming Odin is the flashtool for your device) irrespective of country is perfectly okay. About updating to JB, even if you don't find the update via Kies or similar software, you can flash the firmware in which the sammobile.com will probably publish. So to put it simple, even if you didn't get notified about update, there is another way.
Thanks!

A question regarding SDS in SGSIII

I just did an eMMC check for my 2 weeks old S3 and found out that my chip type is VTU00M and FWRev is 0xF7 .
I know the affected version is VTU00M 0xF1 , but is my chip affected too? what are my options?
I'v never rooted before, just came into Android so I'm waiting till JB 4.1.2 is released to my region officially.
Thanks!
Hi,
I'd say your chip is affected and i'd reccomend rooting + flashing a custom ROM to be safe.
It's quite easy to root at the moment and i'd reccomend using this method (galaxy s3 toolkit):

Just make sure you read and you'll be fine, it basically tells you what you need to do and what order to do it in.
The application does all the hard stuff for you.
you don't have to root or flash a custom ROM.
you can flash the latest stock firmware from sammobile.com

I decided to flash the latest stock firmware, but my country is not there when I checked for new firmware, My country is Qatar BTW, so what should I do now? Saudi Arabia is stated and have the newest version (XXELLB), what will happen if I downloaded it and flash it to my phone? and how should I flash a manually download firmware to my phone? I checked on Kies but 4.1.4 is still not available for me.
Another quick question, I'm currently in Sri Lanka but I brought my phone from Qatar, but still I would get updates from Qatar even-though my region is changed right?
Thanks!

There is really no confirmation directly from samsung which EMMC are safe or not. It is said that only 0XF1 are affected by sds. To be honest I am also confused on all this safe or not safe thing. To be safe, let's assume that all EMMC are unsafe and just updated to latest firmware.

as you are running liquid smooth, you should probably have a kernel that supports triangle away. open the app and reset the flash counter to 0. then just flash a stock firmware of "your region."

no problem with MG4! it has good stable performance. you may flash MB5 though no problem that's your wish. but be sure you back up your efs before flashing any firmware released after MG4 including itself!

you may back it up using an app "HC kTool." you may also back it up from recovery mode(only philz recovery can do that).
