[Q] restoring Note 2's Android ID - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

How does someone get a restore of their Android ID? I am wanting to update to Build 14 of Jelly Beans, and Titanium Backup (which has been awesome for backing up my ID on previous phones) has borked and will not give me the 'we noticed that you have reset your phone, would you like to restore your old ID?'
I need to restore my old ID or Slacker Radio tells me I have registered a new device and I have to wait a month before I can start storing music channels on my phone, basically wasting a month's subscription (~9.99).
I found an app called 'Change hostname', but it doesn't appear to be able to add a specific hostname, but to randomly generate a new one, which is crap...
I would appreciate any help on this issue.

Have you opened titanium. Then press menu and under that pick manage android id

yea... and when I attempted to 'Restore Android ID from backup'...

Maybe it's a TouchWiz ROM... i don't know. I know I never had this issue on my Galaxy Nexus (toro) running Liquid Smooth, and then Carbon Rom... You start up Ti-backup after a factory re-set, and boom... immediately asks you to change Android ID back to previous one...

Ya that is the normal thing. Well do you have a nan you can restore. I'm not sure if that would do it or not, but worth a shot.

I gave Slacker the 'I got the phone less than a month ago' bit, and they reset me for the current Android ID. I'm stuck on Build 13 unless TiBu comes up with an update to fix this issue. Guess I can ping them...

I let it go for a couple weeks.. pain in the ass... If there was a work-around, that would be something. Like another app that would allow me to modify the ID.

I found "Android ID changer" but I'm a little leery to try it. I copied down my existing hostname, and made a nan backup... Guess I just need to jump in with both feet...

I think you will find that you do have a backup. It's just in a different folder than where Titanium is currently looking. Check around with a file manager and look at the dates the backups have for each file. Then make Titanium look there. Well, at least that is what worked for me when I went from Novella (an AT&T rom I was running on my Verizon Note 2) back to Beans14.
Good luck.

Why would titanium backup make a backup, then not look in the proper directories when restoring files? I did a top-level search of 'settings.db', and other than the one I found in /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases, there is not another one anywhere...
BUT... it wouldn't be the first app that cant figure out the difference between /mnt/sdcard/ and /mnt/sdcard/0...
Does anyone have a bugtraq for Titanium backup? All I found was their Google Plus page, and while I did post there, I'm not expecting an answer...

How to properly use Titanium Back Up??

Hey All,
I would like to ask anyone who knows how I can properly use Titanium Backup I would really appreciate it. The problem i've had before is that when ever I backup I never seem to know how to properly back up my apps so I can also back up the data like my saved games on angry birds, and my tags on sound hound. If I back up and thn restore I always mess something up and my roms end up all screwed. please some one guide me!!!!
I usually only backup user apps. Press the options button on the bottom left of the vibrant. Then choose batch, then choose backup all user apps.

Like I said though, doing that only backs up the apps but it doesn't back up the data i.e. shazam tags, etc.

thanks alot. I'll look at it now. I hate flashing ROMS sometimes because I don't get my app data. It sucks having to start Angry Birds from leverl 1 every time I flash something!
I use mybackup pro n backup apps. ..gives option to backup apk + data. Has worked well for me. Don't have re -download apps or anything.
I know this doesn't necessarily answer the question but it gives a way to backup apps+data(bookmarks, texts, call log, settings, etc)

problem with system apps force closing after restoring from backup

hey, to make a long story short since i'm sure you don't wanna have to read a whole page,
this my first Android phone coming from iPhone. I had originally gotten the skyrocket, but after getting throttled the second day and wanting to be able to customize and reading the i777 is the superior device, I decided to swap back to the i777 yesterday.
I had the skyrocket rooted and used titanium backup to backup my apps and system data. so I rooted this phone and tried to restore ask the apps and system data. everything at first looked like a perfect switch, but now I found problems. so far from what I've found, when I try to change ringtones using Android system the phone freezes and then it said that it had to force close.
the purge problem is the alarms, when I try to edit one or create a new one, it freezes again and force closes.
does anyone know a way to make it work while keeping all my apps and not having to start from scratch again? I'd be fine with having to redo all the settings and options if I have to
thanks for any help

TiBu has an option for only "missing apps and data" when restoring - this is the only safe option (in rare cases even it fails, but it's rare).
There's also an experimental "system data migration" option in TiBu that's off by default - I've never used it, and be warned that it may not work at all when trying to change to a completely different device.
ok, so you're saying
instead of doing the "restore apps plus system data", do the "restore missing apps with data"?

This is exactly the kind of attitude that causes newbies to get flamed. This is NOT the Help Desk. No one is paid to help you in here. We expect you to FIND help for yourself by reading and when no help can be found, THEN post. Laziness is not to be rewarded. Anyone familiar with TiBU knows that you should almost never restore system data with it because it will cause problems except in specific situations. Had you done a little searching and reading you would have likely come across this info as it is well documented in here. Be thankful Entropy took pity on you and gave you the right answer despite your laziness.

My attitude is fine. TiBU is one of THE most used apps on Android phones and by users in here and if you're saying you searched and did not find an answer about this then I say you're full of it. Like I said, be thankful Entropy helped you out because more often than not he feels the same way about this kind of thing. Redundant threads clog up the forums and it is always better to post to an existing related thread than to start a new one. All members should keep that in mind before hitting the Submit button.

If you're on a stock ROM I believe superuser will be wiped. So, you'll have to re-root. If you're on a custom ROM and do a factory reset, root should remain intact.
All he has to do is really wipe and install the rom he was using. Just do as they said with titanium backup and you'll be fine.

Ya, I did a factory rest and my root ended up staying on the phone and I was able to restore everything and
Have no problem. Thanks for your help guys. This is my first Android after coming from an iPhone for 4 years. Its so much better.

Titanium Backup extract from nandroid??

Guys I have made an old fashio nandroid with all my updated apps and stuff. Now When I go to titanium backup and then press menu button and etract from nandroid it asks me which nandroid when i choose I then have the option to select which apps , when I have selected and click restore it just stays on 0% and doesnt do anything, By the way the nandroid is a ICS custom rom and I am now On a stock rooted JB rom. But that shouldnt matter right only the apps should I tried more then one app its always same thing nothing gets done. How can I restore my apps without having to load the whole nandroid then copying the titanium folder and then AGAIN flashing the JB and pasting the folder then restore the usual backup way. Any other way to do it from my nandroid ?
I've had problems in the past restoring from normal titanium backups. It's usually caused by a certain app that stops it.
Not sure if your problem is the same but try selecting just 1 random app and restore.

Are you talking about Extracting from Nandroid? Its an option in titanium pro.
It allows you to restore apps straight out of a nandroid backup. But when I do it nothing happens just sits on 0% for ever. Makes me angry!!
Maybe try AppExtractor from the play store. Worth a go.

I've run into pretty much the same thing. HOWEVER I am trying to restore apps that I had on my GS II Skyrocket to my new GS III. App extractor wouldn't find the nandroid backup, and wouldnt let me point it to it.
Using TiBu Pro, I cna get in, find the apps, I've tried both Batch and single, it shows complete, BUT the app never shows up. I know it's got to be an operator error.
Operator is standing by.

I know this thread is pretty old and hopefully you've found a solution, but I've been researching high and low for a similar thing - to extract data out of a nandroid backup, and finally found the solution.
In my case, the app would NOT show in the nandroid backup extraction list in TiBu PRO, even if it was there. So, I installed the latest version of the app on the market, restored data ONLY, and it worked like a charm.
Let us know if it works for you! This is on the Verizon I535 however..not sure if that will matter. Don't see why it would.
but where it is saving the apps I am restoring from TWRP backups?

Not operator error so far as I can tell. I am having the same difficulties. I find that when I use my super root level file browser and go ahead and make a data folder for the app then TiBu Pro will be able to restore the app and its data, but otherwise no go. I think that TiBu Pro - for some reason - doesn't have permission to create folders. So without the folder, no installation can happen.
Does anyone know how to set it so that it can? That would make my life much easier.

titanium backup all the way. its the best backup solution so long as you are rooted. you dont have to be unlocked to use it, just rooted.
If you are unlocked id suggest a nandroid backup.

On JB, App Backup ( which also supposedly backs up app data as well ) is a factory installed program. Since you agree to the Asus bound EULA upon starting it up, im guessing its an ASUS app too

Well, If you can unlock your bootloader, Id suggest TWRP to create entire dumps of your current setup. If im not mistaken, titanium can pull the data from cwm / twrp dumps and restore pretty much everything. If you need a hand with unlocking and installing TWRP, you can pm me and ill walk you through it. Its not terribly difficult although you will need a computer nearby.

No problem My understanding is that ASUS , while a pain in the A$$ with warranty issues, will still take care of hardware ones with an unlocked / modded tf201. They just wont cover it if you brick it yourself.

No, it doesn't take a backup of your home screen.
It does a pretty good job on backing apps and data, but you'll need to "rebuild" your home screen.

no it doesnt, it only backs up apps and app date (some games wont work - i found this the hard way).
best thing to save home screen layouts is just take a screen shot and re-do.

i wouldnt rely on this from Asus, ive seen people with things which are clearly hardware issues and they wont fix or they have really had to fight for it. basically if you unlock id take it as asus wont support you, anything on top of that is a bonus. ive insured mine.
As has been said, no the ASUS app doesnt backup home screen layouts. My cell phone camera however does.
I just went through this 3 days ago when exchange stopped synching and all the removing and re-adding of the account did not help.
All my apps except ironically the stock browser didnt have favorites I had set and bad piggies was at square one.
It also didnt backup my VPN settings, pictures/videos, screen timeouts and most basic OS settings (weather loc, temp in F etc..). The cam stuff I copied off via USB sync.
Basically after the restore I got my apps back, but no icons. I then used the pics I took with my cell phone to redo the homescreen. Then I set up email, VPN, basic OS settings. Had to log in to many of the apps that were restored. Chrome saved bookmarks so I loaded those and copied the URL to ASUS browser to restore them.
so in short a very manual job one way or another. But seriously lads thanks for the tips... been considering RAM of my tab the past few days , and have tons of custom settings and apps that I'd like to keep. Kinda sad that no auto solution has poped up.

Not in my experience (I've been using it for a year). Also, 150,000 reviews and still a 5 star app.
The caveat I see is that Titanium requires root, and I assume that you are not rooted and that you may not want to get into that. In that case, you could search the app store for "backup" (minus quotes). Look for apps with the most reviews. There are generally free versions you can try to see if it meets your needs.
Here's one to get you started:
