Such a great program is the Nabilab thank you!
Ive tried to serach the forums but am getting burried under so much info that I dont all fully understand, please forgive my ignorance. Im also not even sure if I am posting in the right place (trying to do this at work when boss isnt looking which is hard).
I have a backup and restore question please related to UK version of the nabi2.
I downloaded the full version of the nabilab tools software including the stock condition to my PC. I then ran the full installation (option 1) and all worked brilliantly (little trouble with the drivers but solved).
But now, 4 weeks later, the nabi has lost wifi which I understand from reading is an issue with OTA (which I didnt know about and hadnt realised was turned on).
So from what I can tell, I need to basically blank the nabi2 and then restore it. But I have just had the thought, is the stockbackup file within my internal SD card actually a backup of my own system created when I ran the tools setup/installation (which I think is the case), or is it a copy of the downloaded stockbackup that came with the nabilab tools and was automatically copied across during the tools installation?
The reason for asking is that I just thought, that because my Nabi2 is a UK version (I did update the OS as instructed before running all the nabilab tools installation) then if the stockbackup is from the downloaded pack, and thus not UK, then trying to restore that might cause me problems with the UK version and maybe the uk nabistore??
Would I be better going into Nabi parent-mode and using the option in the settings to reset to factory defaults (will this work to restore nabi to earlier version?) or am I ok to use the stockbackup that is sitting on my internal sd card?
Should I use twrp to "wipe" first before trying any backup or should I just run restore?
Do I use the nabilabs menu to try and do the restore or should I go into TWRP to do the restore?
Id really really appreciate any help please as Im very new at all this and not very knowledgable. The Nabi2 is my sons. He is 4 and has autism and doesnt have any communication or language so doesnt understand that his Nabi ran out of storage space thus I used the root to be able to use an app swapping internal-external sd cards for more space. His Nabi means everything to him and its starting to look like it will help his communication, he doesnt understand why parts of it are now not working which leads to huge upsetments (really huge) and we cant explain to him that it will be fixed soon, and so im desperate to fix it as quick as I can.
Please any help would be wonderful.

If you look in the TWRP/BACKUPS/yourserial/ folder the folder called "stockunrooted" should be your Nabi's backup. A folder called "abcdstock123" is the stock backup the Nabilab would create, but it will only create this if you ran the restore "Nabi to stock" from Nabilab. Honestly before you do anything else, if you find the folder stockunrooted COPY THAT TO YOUR COMPUTER. I can't stress that enough, we don't have near as many UK owners here. If something goes wrong we have plenty of north american versions the users here can get for you, but not many if any UK ones.

I would definitely try and restore your stock backup if you have one. I have no facts on this matter but the UK store could react negatively to something such as your build.prop being different. Also there might be a difference in WiFi configuration as I think there are some differences between power in channels 12 and 13 outside North America. I would avoid restoring the Nabilab one unless it was a last resort. If you don't have your stockunrooted, someone out there likely has a UK backup. We would be better off seeking them out and seeing if they would upload you one.

-Either a factory reset, or restoring the stock backup of your Nabi(not the stock from Nabilab) should work. A factory reset won't revert you to an older Nabi revision it will simply wipe everything from the tablet, and leave you on whatever version you are currently on. The restoring of your backed up version will more or less result in the same since you upgraded before backing up. However the major difference will be your backup will have the Nabi setup done, where a factory reset will erase it. Also it will WIPE your stockunrooted backup that I talked about at the beginning, we don't want that without you copying it to your computer first. So you skip the step of setting up parent mode, and your wireless password would likely be there so you would save yourself 2 minutes.
-If you restore your stock backup of your tablet, and restore boot, system, and data there would be no reason to wipe first. Although out of habit I always clear cache and dalvik cache anyway, even though it gets wiped by the restore. No need to clear system as TWRP will format that partition before restore anyway.
-Go into TWRP. Select restore tab. Find folder called stockunrooted and select. Restore all. Boot, system, data check. I assume you have gotten into TWRP fine but just in case: From powered off, press and hold both vol+ and power, then select recovery kernel.
-Or you could just do a factory reset. The differences I highlighted above.
-Either option will break root, and gapps. To get them back use options 3 and 4, instead of 1 like you did last time in Nabilab. Gapps only, Root only, since you would already have stockunrooted no need to make a second one.

Ill backup the stock to my pc, then will try using twrp to resotre that backup and then use the nabilab again to root. Then I guess its simply logging into the nabi and google store to download any missing apps.

I did choose option one when I did the nabitools so I just dont understand why theres nothing there.
When I looked into twrp last night it seemed to think there was a backup there for stockunrooted so I dont know if its dissapeared or whether it was never there in the first place.

I would go into TWRP. Then in the advanced section use the file manager. Navigate to /data/media/TWRP/BACKUPS/serial/stockunrooted and then see if it is blank or if there are files in it. boot.wim boot.wim.md5, etc etc
If it's gone then it will have to be a factory reset.

Hi
Did that, folder empty and no files in it.
Have done a factory reset and YAY all good.
Have re-signed in to nabi account, have redone the root using nabilab, have then installed the ext-to-int sd card app and the big card is now in memory.
So now its just a case of sitting back and slowly reinstalling all the apps from the nabi store and then the google store. Once all thats done ill then go into TWRP and do me a proper full backup.

UK Nabi 2 Rom
Hello All, I`m looking for a UK version of the 1.9.37 rom after wiping my daughters Nabi, forgetting to make a backup way back when i was rooting it last year. I`ve tried the stock version but when it tries to do the second of the two part ota i get the dead robot and Nabilab doesn`t see it when connected.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Or maybe it did, but not the way I expected.
So, I've had my Vibrant for about 4 days. Day 1, I rooted it and installed Titanium Backup, which I used to delete a bunch of Bloatware.
Today, I decided to try something different, and wanted to totally wipe the phone clean, restored back to "out of the box" condition. So, I did a Factory Data Reset, via Menu>Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset. First I tried the Power Button/Volumn Buttons, but that wouldn't work for me.
Anyway, I finished with the Factory Data Reset and noticed that all of my Market Apps are gone, including Titanium Backup. Funny thing is, I believe the phone is still Rooted, because I still have the Superuser Permission icon. However, none of the Bloatware that I'd deleted, is back on the phone. Of course, since I deleted Titanium Backup, with the reset, I can't access my Titanium Backup that I'd made...lol.
I still want to reset this phone to "out of box" condition, but can't figure out how. I want to delete EVERYTHING, including contacts, music on SD card, and I want everything reinstalled, that came with the phone. At that point, I'm going to do more research, before deleting bloatware. I don't even care if I lose my "ROOT." If needed, I can re-root it.
So, is it possible, to get this phone back to factory condition? First off, this is my first Android and I'm completely an idiot, when it comes to androids...lol. I have no idea what SDK, ADB, or any of those other initials mean, or how to use them. So, unfortunately, I'm going to need to be able to read very detailed, step by step, idiot like, instructions.
Okay, I hope what I just did wasn't an even bigger mistake...lol.
After reading through a couple of threads, I found and tried this hidden code.

On a side note, if you're still learning or never used odin to flash a rom before; there is also a hidden code that is used for factory format. It'll remove all files and settings including the internal memory storage and reformats it. It'll also reinstall the phone firmware from when you took it out of the box. Just go to your dialer and put *2767*3855# and it will perform the factory format for you.

Nope, didn't make any difference. Seemed to do the same thing as a Factory Data Reset.
So, now I'll await advice...lol.
Far as I know a factory reset won't restore deleted system .apk's which is what you did by removing the bloatware. Only way is to either restore the .apk's you deleted from a backup manually in which you need root to do this, or via complete restore with ODIN and the tarball. If you don't know what either of this means then I would suggest you read a little more on the forum so you don't wind up with a paperweight. Titanium Backup is great at removing the bloatware but it's not meant to restore rom .apk's which is why they don't get backed up (for safety's sake). It'll backup their settings however. Good luck.

did you make a nandroid backup of your system before you made changes.

Okay, so it sounds like I need to learn how to use ODIN and "tarball?" Not only do I NOT know how to use either, I don't even know what they are! lol. Can anyone point me to a good, idiot proof guide on both of these programs?
Another possible option, maybe. My girlfriend also has a Vibrant, we purchased both at the same time. At this point, her Vibrant is totally "out of box" original. Is there a way that this could help me? Would it be possible to do a Nandroid back up of her phone, and use that back up to restore my phone?

At the time, I hadn't even heard of Nandroid, so no. I figured the Titanium Backup would do what I needed. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Since then, I've heard of Nandroid, but that's about it.
Okay, so I called my local T-Mo store and spoke with a salesman about this issue. Believe it or not, he actually recommended that I call Customer Support and get a warranty replacement, telling them that my volumn buttons aren't working. Honestly, I don't feel right doing this and would like to fix it on my own, errrr, with lots of help from here...lol. The bonus of fixing it myself would be that I'd also be learning how!! As I said, I know next to nothing about Android phones, so would like to learn.
At this point, I want the phone totally back to factory settings, and then I plan to do a lot more research, before making any changes.
Oh and in case it needs to be mentioned again, my phone is still Rooted.
if you download clockwork there are recoveries that will take you back to factory default. if you look in the devs part of the vibrant forum. then look in the Vibrant directory. there are stock backups in there.
did you install any roms? like eugenes or what ever after you rooted?

Okay, so Rom Manager includes Clockwork right? I have installed Rom Manager. In the Market, I see Clockwork, but it doesn't look like a US version, as the price isn't in $s.
As for a stock back up, couldn't I just back up my girlfriend's Vibrant, which is in stock condition, and use that back up, to restore my phone? If so, what steps would I need to take, to do so?

No, I wouldn't even know where to begin, in installing different ROMS...lol.
in vibrant general if you go to tips and tricks you can download the app there. it will tell you step by step what to do. so download it on the good vibrant and make the backup. then download the app on the bad one. take the backup from the good one and put it on the bad ones internal sd card. follow the steps to restore the backup. this may fix your problem

Ummm, in your quote, I made something bold. Which "the app" are you referring to?
Also, once I've made a backup of the "GOOD" Vibrant, how do I move that Good Backup to the internal SD Card of the "BAD" Vibrant?
this is for the app.
How it works: The recovery is packaged as an update.zip that you run from STOCK recovery. The update.zip unpacks Clockwork Recovery onto the ramdisk and restarts recovery. When you reboot, it reverts back to the original, unmodified, stock recovery. So, you will need to keep the recovery on the root of your SD card as an update.zip, and apply the zip every time you want to start Clockwork.
HOWEVER, if you use ROM Manager, all of the recovery installation and management instructions are done for you!
Installation instructions:
Download ROM Manager from the Market.
Flash Recovery.
Choose Vibrant as your phone.
Accept the Superuser prompt.
On the very FIRST boot of Clockwork, you may need to manually select "reinstall packages" if Clockwork does not start. You should only ever have to do this once. It will be automatic from then on.
Watch the backup go!
That's it! This is completely painless and safe! There is no need for Odin anymore to replace the recovery or flash updates!

To transfer the recovery over transfer it to the external sd card of the good unit. then take that card and put it in the bad unit. then transfer it to the internal sd card.
Ive been spending way to much time researching my problem and my wife is really mad at me. Basically at this point i would be happy to just manually extract data for about 10 apps from a nandroid that wont restore. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Ok, now that I am at computer, heres my story. Prior to flashing the gingerbread leak, I backed up using Titanium Backup and made a Nandroid backup. Somehow, all the files backed up in my PREVIOUS 2 backups on titanium backup where all 0kb-10kb, so they were completely borked for some reason. Some old backups of apps that I have since uninstalled still remained and those seem ok.
Prior to reading about the SD card failures with the gingerbread leak, I backed up my SD card to my computer. Only 1 error came up during the backup about a file with a name that was too long. I clicked on ignore and finished the backup. About 1 hour later my SD card fried.
I used a spare sd card, and transfered my clockwork mod folder and a few other folders to it. I then ODIN a DL09 stock image, flashed the newest Clockword mod 3.xx via odin, flashed UKB 2.0, then flashed PBJ -50 recovery/kernel (which was what I had when I made the backup) and tried to restore it. When I try to restore it hangs somewhere in the data restore portion saying CACHE. I saw it flash cache a few times during the restore, so I am not sure why it hangs on that one in particular. I know that the cache image file is only 16.5kb so I dont know if that has something to do with it.
I then installed the newest IMNUTS recovery since I heard there were problems restoring the the PBJ recovery, and it seems to hang in the same spot.
At this point, I have a few of my old programs back, but most force close.
My main goal here is to just extract some gamesave progress and a few other pieces of data (I can redownload basically all the apps I need), run clean until a better gingerbread leak comes along, then use titanium backup to backup what I have (and verify the backups and make backups of the backups )and install a better gingerbread rom.
So anyway, If i can figure out how to go into the datadata.img files, I guess I can extract the data I need and push it through ADB or ROOT EXPLORER? Should that work?

There are computer applications that can read and explore image files, or .img files, and the file systems within image files. Your best bet would be software like that, that could open, edit, and explore image files. I dont know the names of any software like that, even though I have come across some before, but im sure you could turn up some results with the query "image file editor," or ".img file editor." From there you're just have to feel your way through.. Try similar queries if those don't turn up what you need, etc. If you got an app that could explore image files, then you could get your .apk files from /data/app folder, and any other data you might need from /data/data, if its just user apps you're wanting to restore.

Well I'll go ahead and point you to the right direction, or what I'd imagine should work for your needs. You'll need unyaffs, I'm assuming you're on windows so this here would be the right one for you http://www.box.net/shared/1eighqsh4s. Now take the data.img from your clockwork backup on your sdcard, drag and drop it onto the unyaffs.exe, it should unpack right there into a crapload of files. Navigate to the /data folder and find the ones you want to keep (they should be listed by the package name for the apps, "com.blah.asfkje.etc" rather than the name of the app so keep that in mind when looking for what you want), then adb push (root explorer would be fine too) the folders into your phone where they should be.

Did you happen to try the nandroid Advanced Restore option, and select Data only? If not, it might be worth a shot. If it gets far enough, you might try wiping after the restore, and before booting up.
I always wipe my cache/Dalvik before I backup, to try to avoid conflicts with possible future ROMs. Something to think about, anyway.

i did try the nandroid advanced data only option and it hung at what seemed to be the exact same point.

Trying to root my table tand get it to work, I have not succeeded something operational yet. I have made a root & CWD sd card, and in the process had backed up my tablet. I copied thgis backup to my PC as I had to try different things with the sd card.
So now I d like to restore (to start afresh) but... I google it around, and dont find any procedure!?
I am sure it is known... and am dummy... but can't invent neither.
I need use those files, because I still can't read .apks and try the apk based nook restore.
How should I go?

Restore method did not work....²
I have found my 3 neurons and realized I could just re do a CWD sd card, do a backup, and then take the card to my PC and add the other backup aside there (they are orgnaized by folders and date)
Then back to the tablet, go CWD / restore... but I only get a MD5 error and it does not want. Same with advanced restore.

I now seriously again need to make a restore, as I did some bad mismanipulation and my tablet is now out of order:-(
One of my best chance I guess would be use one of the backups I have (I have several copied on my HD), but after I formatted and wrote on my SD card several times (is this the reason?), now when I try restore, I have this MD5 error.
I hope I would not run into other problems, as it seems my prop.build may have changed in the process....!
May I ask you to have a look what I did, and then confirm it would be wise try the restore you provided in the thread?
The history what I did:
- I initially had a 1.4.0 with some tweaks to sideload apps, and could no more sideload with 1.4.2 of course (and that is all I need: be able get Kindle, Le Monde, and few other apps!). I understood I had to root and was ready to try get CM7 on my internal drive, and tried a few things (Rooting with Indirect's method, ...), and could not get it to work, until I got very close:
- I restored 1.4.0 using this thread restore 1.4.0 from Adam Outler. It worked fine and apparently erased some of the problems I had that were previously preventing me to move with rooting etc.
- Then I used Albert Wertz's Backup of a rooted 1.4.0. It worked. It seems it had already OTA bloked (displaying version 9.9.9 or so)
- Then I was to install CM7 using this tutorial from ebook-reader, based on this Celtic XDA thread ("team B") (choosing the internal method) , and used the CWM flasher apk. That is where somewhere I did a mistake: after backing up and erasing all data, I somehow stupidly rebooted and got in trouble, and restored the old B&N I don't know how.
- Willing to go back to stage 1, I tried using the 1.4.0 basic restore from Adam Outler, but that did not work anymore, like if my build.prop had been changed in the process (where?)
It said "assert.failed: getprop ("ro.product.device" = blaze" or something alike.
- Then I got a long powercut (am in Africa) and some sleep
- The worse is, the NOOK does not boot and work anymore at all, it is stuck on "read forever" screen
- The curse is, I cant use other restores I have, it says MD5 mismatch
- I also can't use simple root procedures (with CWM and installing zips), as my basic system seems corrupted.
I guess a proper restore may work if I manage to do it, but I wonder what happened with my prop.build and why it was mentionned up there (was it changed in some of the process) - and whether it will create more trouble.

3. when you mention erasing all data you mean only wipe data (factory reset) or did you wiped maybe formatted anything else?
4. What method did you use to format your sdcard
Edit: i have a MIUI backup that i made for a guy that could not install it with the other way (install .zip) of the same ROM. So at list try it for now to see what happens, if it works then go ahead and flash back the ROM you want, and always make sure to check the md5 of what you download.

1. Did you get to flash CM7 succesfully?
No. While following the procedure, I did some mistake after backing up and before even trying to installing CM7. I did not realize I was in CWM within my existing rooted 1.4.0 (using the .apk), so somewhere I wiped and rebooted... to realize I was rebooting into nothing! Or actually into the original 1.4.0 B&N. And then I did some attempts to go back step by step (like restoring that 1.4.0 from Adam then the rooted 1.4.0 from Albert) and somehow went into more troubles.
2. When you mention you backed up means you backed up CM7?
No, since I did not go so far as to install CM7.

When I really want to make sure, I first use HP USB formatting tool, and then sometimes check on Acronis to get the partitions I want. I am not sure in what order I did that time, but was not using partitionning in fact.
I will redo it all again as I wonder if it is not a mistake on the disk that lets it misread the MD5, as I think my backups were fine.
I don't undestand:
- why my MD5 are wrong, and is it something I can fix by properly reformatting mys disks
- what is this story with "assert.failed: getprop ("ro.product.device" = blaze" and where I may have changed the build.prop. Is it somehting that will bother me further or should push me into one direction rather than another.

Try formatting your sdcard again, i recommend SDFormatter. Sometimes sdcard can be the cause of many weird errors and issues.
Then copy back one of your backups within clockworkmod >> backup folder
If no go with that then try the following.
* First you need adb working

* Plug your NT to your PC using USB cable
* Download the file attached which is 1.4.0 stock build.prop, uncompress it, put it in the same folder adb is located and push it using adb while in CWM
> cd path-of-adb-tools
> adb devices
(verify that you get a code with numbers and letters)
> adb remount
(if this command does not work for you then please mount /system manually from mount&storage > Mount /system in CWM)
> adb push build.prop /system
* Unplug cable
* Try Adams acclaim_update.zip again ( preferably with nothing else in your sdcard only that .zip
* Report back

OK I now was finally able to download the files.
- I guess I'll try first what you suggested with the MIUI backup after a proper reformat.
(I am just not sure which CWD file to use, as many dont leave any space on the card to put backups....)
- Then the ADB method if the 1st one does not work.
Though, part of the ADB tutorial is this "ADB root hijack" where they say you must already be rooted - that is not my case....

It seems we got the same problem trying to do the same thing... So the same solution may work? (the only difference beeing I have not tried the unbrick mehods you did)
What I just did with Veronica's guidance, and worked for me:
- I created a 50MB sd card to boot into CWD, using this
- booted into CWM with it
- copied onto another SD card the MIUI backup Veronica provided earlier in this thread:

Hello im glad to see you're back, about launchers, addons & apps it all depends of your likes.
What i gave you is MIUI ROM (operative system) without major modification (as-is) and yes it has zeam launcher but all can be modified.
I'm personally not a fan of gingerbread CM7 because i really like the eye candy of MIUI and even stock (which the buttons and menus are very similar to MIUI) so i use MIUI.
About stock i didn't mind using it even though i don't use B&N application and buy books from them buy i enjoyed the eye candy (interface/GUI), now that @cobrato released MIUI i immediately switched to that as im a huge fan of MIUI.
I have always used GO launcher as my main launcher but now im starting to use ADB in MIUI because it manages better the grid feature.
All systems you're going to find already come rooted which is standard and is the feature #1 of custom and stock ROMs, without root there is no fun. If you're in this community is because eather you have a rooted device or you came to learn how to root it and other stuffs.
If you like B&N stock ROM but don't use their apps and services you can bypass the registration and forget about the OTA updates, you can also apply on top of that the OTA block with titanium backup if you want to make sure. That is the methods i used and never ever had a problem. I also recommend you that when you flash a stock ROM do the whole procedure of OTA block and don't guess is already blocked, nothing better than do it yourself manually.
If you decide you want to make use of B&N services then you can eather go back to stock for a complete B&N experience or just install their app from the market if you're on CM7, CM9 or MIUI that is, nothing fancy but it does the job.
I have mentioned days ago that i was going to make a thread for MIUI users with how-tos and info about set it up but i've got very busy with many bricked devices around lol, but i eventually will do.

I don't have a 8GB nook tablet to upload a backup of stock ROM and actually is very important to have nobody has been nice to upload it and post it in development section. Anyway let me give you the link of the official update to see if that helps, i was checking yesterday and they provide one for both i think there is not a separate section for the 8GB model so i assume that update is for both models containing 1.4.2

No, I can't flash anything from CWM...
A week and a half ago I used aicjofs' nifty Nabilab v2.3.3 on my niece's Nabi2 (v1.9.37). I had a driver problem but was able to take care of that using the pdanet drivers as recommended in the thread. NabiLab then worked like a charm. I used the "Install Root, Recovery and Gapps" option.
Everything functioned great for about 9 days and then the Nabi2 wifi issue appeared. The selector stays in the off position and will not turn on. I saw a Linux based fix in another thread that was mixed in with instructions about rolling back the Nabi to stock. However, our Nabilab install was in Win7 64bit and we'd also rather not end up back at stock -- the rooted and Play-capable Nabi was terrific for adding to FUHU's limited stock of good kids games.
I'd be grateful for suggestions on the best way to correct the wifi issue on a Win-7-based NabiLab-applied root, recovery and gapps. We hope to retain (or at worst re-apply) the root/gapps. Thanks!

The wifi issue has plagued the Nabi 2 since the beginning. If you search you will see 100's of post on Facebook with people with the issue(That's where Nabi runs their support mostly.), usually stated as wifi not working and or MAC address unavailable. The official solution currently is to do a factory reset and update to v2.0.5. I personally have never had the issue and I wish I did because there has to be an easier fix then a factory reset. The factory reset has to be wiping some data that we could shortcut without wiping everything else. It could be the wpa_supplicant.conf or the entropy.bin in /data/misc/wifi, or perhaps a com.android settings that is messed up. A permission issue where the wifi user in system group isn't set right, or the read write. I always thought that the key might be in the ramdisk init files(the key to tracking it down not so much the issue itself) as the issue was happening back in the beginning when people were running mismatched kernel/ramdisk in the early patches. Regardless it's hard to guess at what it is without seeing the device.
So as to what you do...I suppose you have a few options. Use TWRP to flash back the original Nabi ROM that Nabilab backed up for you, or do the factory reset. If you want to keep what you have you use something like titanium backup or similar program from play store, back up your apps and then do one of the above, then restore everything from titanium backup. It's happened to a lot of people, both with stock and modded Nabi's. When you are done go to v2.0.5 it seems much better at the wifi issue. Since you are forced to wipe the tablet either way, you can do no harm it trying this app.

Sorry I wish I was more help as there has to be a shortcut to all this but most people rather then digging deep into it just do the reset and restore their apps, and we never get enough data to figure it out. Now that 2.0.5 has made the issue better there is even less troubleshooting of it. Also everything in Nabilab will work on 2.0.5. except the lockscreen modding tool.

I then backed-up user apps to USB with Titanium before rebooting to Recovery Kernel and attempting a restore from my initial TWRP backup. None found! Ugh. I'm not sure if I did something wrong or skipped a step while setting it up two weeks ago. On to Plan B: NabiLab Full.
I downloaded your NabiLab Full (I had used Lite during setup) in order to restore from the included Nabi image. This worked well and resulted in a mostly stock Nabi (I say mostly because the image includes phantom media listings that need deleting). After that, I could reboot to the Nabi/Android system just fine, but trying to load Recovery Kernel from the boot menu would fail, giving me just a dead android icon. I re-installed TWRP from NabiLab without issue.
I OTA updated to 2.0.5, rebooted to TWRP to make a pre-root backup image, and then used NabiLabs to once again root and install Gapps. Finally, as you suggested, I used the previously mentioned Titanium backup to restore non-system apps/data. 'Cept for a few minor settings like wallpaper & folder names it was back to the Nabi my niece remembered.

Finally, as you suggested, I used the previously mentioned Titanium backup to restore non-system apps/data. 'Cept for a few minor settings like wallpaper & folder names it was back to the Nabi my niece remembered.

today I found myself in the situation where I was to make "the step" and try to install a cyanogenmod on my old, trusty Galaxy S2 GT-i9100 (yep, the oooold one). This phone has served me well, exceptionally well, in the past 4 years. Probably I'll get a new one for christmas, but that's not the point... even if unluckily a model I was considering (asus ze551kl) isn't sold in my country. eh, that's life... no easily replaceable batteries. but let's move on. I'll try to be as clear as possible because even if I'm somewhat ok with technology, I can't remember all terms.
I don't want to be polemic, but I want to clearly understand where I did wrong making a backup of my phone:
- first step, I rooted it. all went well, got ClockworkMod recovery "recovery os"; to me looks like a recovery operative system in all, a tiny version of android that could read the OS partition and clone it somewhere else.
- second step, I made several back-ups from the clockworkmod (Power+VolumeUp+Home) and moved them to the REAL microSD card, the tiny piece I can pull off.
- third... well, saving the cyanogenmod "cooked" .zip in /sdcard folder of the phone. I tried to reset everything, then installing the cyanogen from the CWM... surprise, it failed!
"well nothing bad, i have this nandroid backup manager that goes along pretty well with CWM, seems to see all the backups CWM does, so probably CWM is just cloning all my phone to a file that can be restored is anything goes wrong, and at the next restart I'll have everything back as nothing happened". Because on computers, I've experience that works like that. I cloned the HDD of my laptop (a ssd drive) over another HDD I had (a traditional spinning drive) and... whoah, it worked. I had the exact system on another box that I can place into the laptop and I know it will works, while i can safely do experiments on the other one. that's the purpose of backup, right?
then... I tried to restore my backup with CWM. has restored the wallpaper and the messages. nothing else. how is that possible?
not a single app installed, not one desktop configuration... i used to have 4 screens or "desktops" on my phone, with my widgets and my notes. all gone!
so... what I've missed?
how can I clone my android phone somewhere so I can restore it?
what is preventing me from doing that?
thanks in advance for the answers... has been a long night (it's 3:20 here and most of my time has been passed trying to figure out a solutionto this...) I'll check tomorrow

Probably a wrong recovery
To install cm13 you need a KitKat compatible recovery and to install gapps with cm13 you need to repit your device using one of the methods available, please follow one of these guides:
