Hey guys. I've been tossing an idea around in my head for getting my hands on a One Developer Edition (currently sold out on HTC.com).
I have an upgrade ready on May 1, 2013... just a week away. I want to stick with AT&T and their LTE network.
My idea is to get a brand new phone using my upgrade and turn around and sell it on ebay as a brand new, never used phone and put THAT money toward a developer ed. One.
- I assume the best money I can get with my upgrade is with the 16 GB iPhone 5. Most recent sell of a brand new i5 was $515.00. Would you guys assume this is the best money I can get from my upgrade?
Total comes to -$200 (iPhone5), +$515 (sell on ebay), -$650.00 (HTC One dev.) = $335.00 HTC One Dev.
Does this sound like a good plan? Would you guys know of a better way to turn my upgrade in to cash
I'm in the same boat.
Buying and flipping an IPhone 5 will bring you the best return. Especially if you can get it unlocked before you sell it. That said, if you're burning an upgrade anyway, and sticking with AT&T, I'd suggest just buying the subsidized 64 gb. It's the same phone as the development edition and will cost the same without the hassle of dealing with eBay.

Hey thanks for the info gunnyman. I had no idea the AT&T 64 gb was bootloader unlocked and unbranded. Cool.
It's not. But unlocking on HTC dev and rooting and romming gives you the same end result.
If the bootloader was not unlock able on the att phone I could see spending the money on the dev phone.

I guess I can use my car keys to scratch off that AT&T logo kidding...
I'll keep the idea in mind though. It looks like the 64 gb would be 50 bucks cheaper than going with my plan above. My only thought is that HTC might push updates quicker through their own channels than AT&T, if I wanted to stay with the factory image for some reason.
I just went to htctradeup.com and it says I can get $150.00 back for an old iPhone 4 32 gb. So next week I'll order the 64gb HTC One as an upgrade for 299.00 and then I'll get $150 back from HTC!
Guys can you tell me if this is worth the trouble. I recently signed up for AT&T service along with this fine phone that has zero flaws. But now I find myself interested in the developers edition. I know I could sell this phone on ebay for the same price I could get the developers edition but my question is, is really worth the hassle? My phone is already unlocked and I know its not the same as having S-off which I believe is the only difference between the AT&T version and developers edition. So is that phone really worth all the hassle?

No point. And btw you can get more than that probably for the iPhone 5, I just sold one used for $515.
The dev is the same as the AT&T version plus we have unlocked bootloader and rooting method for our version of the One. Save you're money and spend $200 - $300 on a nice AT&T one.

The downside to the dev edition is that for any warranty issues you have to go through HTC and they flat out suck!
I had an international One X that needed replacement and I had to mail it to HTC. They had it 2 weeks and mailed it back with the exact same problem. Sent it to them again and they finally sent a replacement device. Total time was over 4 weeks to simply get a replacement.
Never again!
I paid full price for my AT&T One and will never buy another device again that needs to be sent directly to HTC. At least with AT&T they send you a replacement right away and you mail back the defective one after you get the replacement in the mail.
If you are okay dealing with HTC and their horrible replacement / exchange policy then the dev version is fine. Beware they will NOT send you a replacement 1st and wait for you to return the defective device.
With HTC you mail it to them. They inspect it and see if they can repair it. If they can it gets repaired and returned to you. If they can't repair it then they send you a replacement. This process can take anywhere from a week (if you are lucky) but average turn around time in my experience is 2 to 3 weeks.
The regular 32gb HTC One for AT&T is going for about $630 on eBay new. Prob more than u would get for a crappy boring iphone

I'm sure many of you have done this to subsidize the cost of our snazzy new beast.
I have the original box (that awful, terrible egg carton thing) and owner's manual. The device itself is a refurb I got from insurance, since my original Evo4G was stolen.
My biggest question is: since it is rooted, is it best to offer it that way? I guess my question is whether there's any market value to it being already rooted and thus getting more from an eBay auction (unless theres a better alternative to eBay that anyone knows). Or maybe advertise the option of: I can send it to you rooted or if you don't want it that way, I can unroot it for you.
If someone wants it rooted, basically I just need to do a full wipe and flash a rooted stock ROM. If they want it unrooted, I believe I need to unroot first, flash a stock ROM, then turn S-ON (might have that in the wrong order).
I hope this is an appropriate thread for this forum (instead of the Evo4G one) as it would be helpful to other people looking for a way to obtain the Evo3D.
My suggestion to you is Craigslist. Sold my hero a month ago for 100 bucks

I sold mine on Ebay for 270 each
Hello,
I sold my 4G for 300 Dollars on Craigslist. I did happen to get a Replacement the week before I listed it. While my original 4G was Rooted, I held off Rooting this one, but did not do the GB Update so that the Buyer would have the option of Rooting or not doing so.
My Upgrade was not supposed to be until September, but I pleaded with Retention and they reset my eligibility. This happened the day after my Refurbished 4G arrived.
I threw in 2 Otterbox Defender Cases, an HTC HDMI Dock, and pointed out the 4G was a 004 Version and was only a week old. I actually received multiple offers and ended up selling to a guy who lives on the same Barrier Island that I do.
I would think it would be best if you could get it back to S-ON and not disclose that it has been Rooted unless someone asks. You could even offer to Root and customize the 4G for the prospective Buyer. It really helped for me as the guy who purchased mine wanted me to Root it, but when he went to Sprint to Activate it he walked out with 2 3VO's instead. I am now trying to help him sell the 4G. I have gotten a few offers around 250, but he wants 300 and I have not exactly killed myself trying to sell it.
Also, I think that sometimes the 4G's Sprint sends out as Recertified are actually new Phones. The one I got sure seemed that way and again was 004.
It helped greatly I sold mine before the 3D's Release. The marketplace has changed since then. There is another Website that offers more than 150 if the 4G is in pristine condition as well. The name eludes me.
Cheers,
JJ
Sprint gives you $150.

I sold my 4G on craigslist for $200 about 90 minutes after I had it posted.
Well, it's VERY EASY.
Sprint will pay $150.00 for your evo 4G in account or store credit. You can either take your EVO 4G to a sprint store, or do it online and ship it to them:
http://www.sprintbuyback.com/
Just did it today at the store and paid only $49.99 for my new 3D!
If it is in good enough shape, I would sell it on eBay... considering I sold a refurbished one with a deadspot on the screen for $200 cash (Fully informed description I might add) You could likely get $250-300 for one in real good condition.
Good luck!!!
Craigslist is probably your best bet if you feel safe using it. Followed by ebay... You could also sell it on these forums which is the choice I took mostly because I wanted my phone to go to someone in the community.

RadioShack gave me $167 on trade for the 3VO. I also traded in my Hero for $50 so had a store credit. I had the boxes and the chargers for both.
I posted my 4G on swappa.com for $250 and it was sold within 2 days. The cool thing is that doesn't matter if you're rooted, people there seem to prefer it. Also if someone is interested, they have the option to buy your phone right away via paypal.

From what I hear, yes. If I remember right, its specifically for selling/trading android phones.
Sold mine for 230 on craigslist. Might have gotten more on ebay, but it'd barely be with it after dealing with the fees and the scammers.
Sold my Verizon iPhone on craigs. Had 10 offers by morning. Sprint would have bought for $220. So there's always a fallback if you want quick cash. Assume EVO 4g should have similar results.

True... So does that mean that if i make a lost phone claim with assurion (tmobile's insurance company) they will not be able to get me an amaze and therefore would have to pick a new phone of equal value, persay, the Samsung galaxy s2?
I am aware that assurion always send a brand new phone with box and everything when phone is claimed lost, unlike the refurbished ones you sometimes get when you claim your phone damaged
There's another article that prevents htc from selling the HTC one X Due to legal battles with Apple that we're just announced today..

I dont even think assurion sends you a new phone either. They are all like new or refurbished. Now your other question, I would personally assume that you should be able to get the next phone HTC has out, which would be the ONE s, but I doubt they would do that. Honest answer, I would assume if T-Mobile had no phones to send you, or assurion, I would think they would send either HTC radar, or more likely, the my touch 4g slide. Both of which I would not want and are downgrades.

I highly doubt they would send him a windows phone. Now a mytouch slide, maybe. The slide isn't a bad phone, actually very nice. Just heavy/bulky due to the slide out keyboard.

asurion sent me a brand new phone in the box with headphones/charger/cable etc when I made a claim. That was back in november though, I'm sure as stock goes down they send out different stock, ie refurb. or trade ins etc.
and when you make a claim, you still pay a 'deductible' of sorts. With telus I had to pay 150 for the replacement, and considering the markup on phones, they still make money on every claim. Look at a $400 laptop, you think the amaze costs more to build then that? these phones are dirt cheap to make, with huge profit margins.
Have you seen what HTC stock is worth? needless to say, they're doing well
They sent you headphones? That's my biggest gripe with this phone is no headphones
Assurion isn't just TMobile it's also att and they send refurbs. When my g2 went out the only thing they offered was that dumbass sidekick...uh no thanks

When I made a claim for a broken HD2 very close to the release of the HD2 Asurion sent me a brand new unit in the box with everything, as described above. I'm sure in that time period when a phone model is very new they just don't have refubs available yet. After a few weeks they start to build up an inventory.

I did a claim on my Cliq and got the Sidekick 4G for my daughter. It was brand new even included a new Sim card... however if they did not have the Amaze if I were to put in a claim I would not want a sidekick LOL
I did a claim with assurion when my htc sensation screen broke back in January. They told me the htc sensation was out of stock and they sent me a refurbish htc amaze. It was crap !! Kept power cycling and finally refused to power on yesterday morning. I called and got really upset because the t Mobile rep was speaking to me like I was stupid so I asked for a supervisor and they sent me a new white amaze in the box with everything. Was really surprised that I got it today at noon. I usually don't get angry and I didn't even ask for a new phone.I actually said I want a refurb that actually works.

T-Mobile is out of stock of the Amaze. He didnt get that from T-Mobile themselves. First of all, they dont even sell the White amaze anymore. He got it from Asurion. If I were you, id call back up T-Mobile and make them give you the ONE S and make them pay the difference for them not having any left. I know they offered to do that with me last month when I first got the amaze and wanted to sent it back for a new one due to screen bleed.
Even though it was in the box and everything. I still dont think it was new. Even the refurbs come with the stick on the front of the phone etc etc. They just add the unopened accessories in the amaze box.
Even if its not new, if you cant tell a difference and its perfect, no big deal anyway lol
If this is to be believed, VZW is going to carry the One along with the rest of the U.S. carriers. That's fantastic news for HTC as they've accomplished (selling the same device on all four U.S. carriers) what Samsung did with the SGS3 which was one of the cornerstones of its success. And HTC really needs some success. It also explains the appearance and disappearance of a red version of the One off of HTC's website.
"It looks like HTC’s One really will be the one flagship for the Taiwanese phone maker. When HTC announced the phone last month, it said the One would be sold at AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. A mention of Verizon was noticeably absent. However, Verizon will also carry the high-end Android device according to a source familiar with the situation. Its launch at Verizon, though, will trail the other U.S. carriers by a month or two as it winds its way through the testing process. HTC and Verizon representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment."http://allthingsd.com/20130313/exclusive-htc-one-headed-to-verizon-too/
So do you think it'll be offered alongside the DNA or are the two devices too similar?
Even though I went from a DNA to a Note 2 and now back to a DNA, I will be buying the One the very minute it is available for Verizon. How's that for impact?
or just do this http://blog.htc.com/2013/03/htc-one-developer-edition/
If it does come to verizon and if I can sell my DNA on ebay for $600 then yes I may get it. If not then no
I have a feeling the resale value of the DNA might plummet when the One hits. Not saying the DNA isn't an amazing phone, but if you have to pick one of the two at similar prices... The only thing I can think of that would really retain the DNA's resale value would be if yours is already unlocked / rooted / s-off. Considering the post-OTA (and all new) phones cannot achieve this yet, I think it'll be a surge to the price for phone that already are unlocked.

With my ebay skills 80% will sell $600.
20% it wont if my skills fail.
Also who knows what the outright price for the one will be if it does come to VZW.
It has very little impact to me as I love my DNA.
Sure people complain of battery life but I get a full day out of mine usually, they complain about only having 16 GB of internal memory but I use Spotify for my music and Drive for my pictures and most places I frequent have wifi. My 8MP camera takes lovely pictures and I already have a quad core processor with 2 GB of RAM. Speaker mode on the DNA is fabulous.
Also, I love having a pocketable 5 inch 1080p device.
Fyi I got a DNA that was used for a week off Craigslist for 425 with two cases and wireless charger...so remember that eBay will take fees from the seller...I just sold an iPhone 5 on eBay for 560 and eBay took 50 bucks just for the damn sale..and then PayPal takes 2% or something too...so yeah.

depends on if they carry multiple storage versions...iirc there are 16/32/64 variants (though i actually havent seen a 64gb variant for sale) for the htc one
so it *might* be something like 599/699/749 or some variation in there off contract
on contract would probabaly be 199/299 of 16/32 which is what id assume verizon would carry (just a guess)
and dna would probably drop to 149 or 99 on contract directly from verizon....probably 49 or free on 3rd party websites

Same here. I had to list it 3 times too before the buyer actually came up with the money.
On thing to remember if your going to sell ANY phone your not going to make a profit. It just makes getting a new phone a little better.
I will be getting the One I have two upgrades available in October so I should be able to get it in September. I hope thats when its released. The developer edition I think is BS pretty sure guys here on XDA will be able to crack the One without me paying extra.
I found a link that compares DNA to One camera check it out http://pocketnow.com/2013/03/13/htc-one-camera-vs-droid-dna-camera#!prettyPhoto
I'm actually happy with my DNA (understatement) and since Sense 5 will be sent to the DNA the only two things that will make me get the new Verizon HTC One (Probably being named the DNA+) would be better battery life and availability in white other than that I doubt that I will be swayed

I am paying full price, and am opting for the AT&T model over the developer version. Why? One word- SUPPORT. If there is any issue with the phone, I bring it in to AT&T and have them swap it out. Can't do that if I order the dev version from HTC. I had to swap my One X out something like 5 times. The peace of mind is worth dealing with a temporarily locked down phone.
you guys shouldn't complain, the phone costs the equivalent of 840USD here in France, probably many other European countries as well... and that's the 32gb version
Wish i could get one from the US man

I am paying full price, and am opting for the AT&T model over the developer version. Why? One word- SUPPORT. If there is any issue with the phone, I bring it in to AT&T and have them swap it out. Precisely! Besides, we'll have root soon enough given this crowd.
Talking tap from dis here brainy fone!
Being Canadian, I won't have easy access to the Dev version unless I can find one "reasonably priced" on eBay or CL (that isn't fraudulent!). Conversely, I can drive 90 minutes south to an AT&T store and get the AT&T version.
For the sake of clarity, Canadians do have access to the HTC One from at least 2 local carriers, but it's only the 32GB version at this point.
Price seems a bit high. I'm not eligible for an upgrade, but I could switch carriers to Verizon if they get the phone, pay the ETF fee, and still probably come out cheaper.

Same here. Was really disappointed to see the price. It's $60-70 more than I was expecting to spend (after tax). Well, I'm selling my iPhone 5 with accessories for $580, so it shouldn't hurt my wallet much.

ha! That's what I'm doing too, I'm going to unlock mine and sell it with a White/Green Otterbox Defender for $550+ I just got it this week so I could sell it for the One, and the $100 from the HTC Trade-In would still give me a few dollars profit, and if I can score a HD Media Link then I can eBay that junk for $70 and buy a box of Magic The Gathering Cards 8)
How are you guys disappointed by the price? Considering that I paid $850 for my piece of junk 64gb iPhone 5, I think $650 for a BADASS 64gb HTC phone is quite the steal. I was expecting it to be $100 more and was quite surprised when I saw it was only $650. Happy day for me!

Same reason I ordered from AT&T. Can also return rather easily if I decide to get a refund.

Wait, if the 64GB is only $50 more off-contract, why is it $100 more on-contract?

My first order failed this afternoon, so AT&T sent me an email with a $50 credit. I ended up getting the 64gb for $635.99 out the door with the media link accessory.

Media Link is for 2 year contracts only. Also, when is the Dev edition supposed to allow a pre-order?
I just wanted to post this for all of you considering getting a new phone on AT&T, such as the One, S4, Blackberry, etc. According to what I have read, it looks like AT&T is starting a promotion tomorrow that will give an instant $100 or more credit toward a new phone of your choice when you trade in your old working smart phone, ( 3 years old or less). This may help in the decision making process for many people.

I just posted an article on this on our site! LOL It's a pretty good deal!
It will push me back into the store tomorrow. I was in the store today and almost bought one, but I wanted to consider it a little longer and wait until the weekend. I am done thinking about it, lol.
well i already traded in a phone directly through HTC for $100 and its gonna be for a visa prepaid card. plus you have to do this in store and they dont have the 64GB version available at stores. i guess its a good deal for those that missed the cutoff for the HTC deal though.

I actually signed up today and received a code. My 8525 qualifies for HTC, but not for AT&T.

What did you tell him that you got the $200 credit? I just signed up with AT&T a week ago and I still cant get my 36 dollar activation fee waived

Wow glad I came across this thread.. I'm locked in a 2 year contract with my s3 so this will definitely ease that upgrade fee
If I bought my One brand new from craigslist could I use this to get an S4 or another One?

Cool, so this is retroactive?
I got my One on release day, so still within the 14 days - if I go back to the store, they should credit me, right? I have a Nokia 900 that I would gladly trade in for an easy $100, lol.

An 8525? Wow. That is old. HTC was taking that for a trade in? I wish I would have known. I could have dug mine out of the drawer.
I had the One..exchanged it for the S4 and came back to the One. Anyone that that has the S4, should definitely get the One if you can, while the bootloader is still unlockable
I'd rather go on swappa or any number of other sites and sell my old kit for a lot more than $100 unless it's an old phone. Just about any decent, present day smartphone is worth more than $100. They're just catering to those who either don't know there options or don't want to deal with trying to sell on their own.

You could go pick up a cheap android phone from virgin mobile for $30-50. This would get you $50 off. I'm trying to find out what phones are eligible. I sell my stuff on ebay too, but a free $50 is nice to stick it to at&t

I checked. They showed a $0 payment for an 8525. For a galaxy sII, they offer less than AT&T. But, Swappa is a better deal than AT&T.

From everything I've been told, it's $100 minimum.
Just wanted to say, bought my One two weeks today and went back to the AT&T store to see if I could get in on this promo. Not a problem at all, traded in an old HTC Inspire 4G and they gave me the $100 credit, which by request, they applied to my bill. What's great is, average selling price on eBay for the Inspire is around $80.

i just told them that i see that you guys have the trade in promotion going that you get 100 dollars for trading in your used phone. i actually read this thread wrong which is why i called inthe first place lol. because i thought they give you 100 dollars on top of what they already give you. the wife traded her iphone 5 and i traded a nexus 4. the rep gave me a 200 dollar credit no questions asked. probably because she can't see on her system exactly what phones we traded in.
